    SSRI's were hell on my pre-existing sexual dysfunction as a result of being circumcised and having close to no feeling in my anatomy since birth as a result.
    There were other side effects ranging from psychologically horrifying to almost unbearable discomfort.
    Buproprion worked well for the depression but the problem was different - i could get aroused but not hold an erection because of the high blood pressure it created. You're correct in saying that this feeds on depression itself.
    This problem was so severe that i went my way on treating my depression, and have for 9 years now. Today i take a B complex designed for optimal absorption, and eat a ketogenic diet, work out a bit, get enough sun ( or artificial UV light ) and only 5% of my depression remains.
    I like this approach because i can feel and process the ups and downs of life as an ordinary person would. The reminder that i'm still a mentally ill person is rare and not severe.
    In a way, i'm sort of grateful that meds had side effects to the degree they did. Otherwise i would have never been given a taste of what a working brain felt like. That taste that SSRIs gave me made me think that, at the least, i am not unfixable, and maybe another way would work.
    Previous to trying SSRIs, believing that i could actually have a working mind was a foreign concept. I was so trapped in the darkness that i forgot what light looked like. So in that way, i am thankful i at least trued these drugs.

      Some other people had it worse and became disabled for life.
      Yet... the human body has ways of repairing itself over time from so many things. In 5 years, your entire body will be composed of an entirely different set of cells, for example. Almost every part of the human body can regenerate.

    As someone who has been on every family of anti depressants for OCD and major depression for the past 36 years the side effect of not being able to climax has been the bane of my life. Unfortunately the only two drugs that didn’t help my OCD/depression didn’t have any side effects. I’ve lost count of how many times I’ve faked an orgasm . Excellent video but nothing that I haven’t tried. The only thing is a drug holiday but this does not work for all drugs due to the half life and you risk the drug not working again if you do this often. Thanks for sharing.

      Bout the same story man. Been on everything under the sun for bout 30 yrs for OCD/crippling anxiety. I'm now 44, never really had problems with ED or "finishing". Well my family dr put me on Clomipramine last yr & it has been my miracle drug. I've never felt this good mind & body since my teen yrs. But...now I have ED. And I can't "finish". I have faked a lot of orgasms the past yr also, it's embarrassing & a big shot to the male ego. I keep thinking it will get better or just fix itself one day bf my girlfriend starts getting suspicious! So it's a Catch 22, continue to take my miracle med & feel great or stop taking it only for sex & that's a small part of life compared to all the other hrs in a day. It's a lot to think about. @@ashuvijay7031 been seeing your posts on other channels. I will be honest with you. What happened was your brain could not handle the toxicity of this medication and it caused kind of a damage to it. And as with every bad condition with the brain regular and intensive cardio excersise could improve your ability to feel the sensation if you havent tried it already. Eating healthy and living healthy lifestyle is also important you should beware of excesive drinking of alcohol or smoking, best would be not to drink and smoke at all, because since your brain has been intoxicated like that bef9re it will be less tolerant to other toxins like alcohol and you could worsen or lose your other s3xual functions over time which most probably wont happen if youll be ccareful. I know that not feeling it when you touch a girl can suck but if your sensation wont improve you should be glad that you have all your other functions working and focus on that. There are so many people that would give anything to be in state like you. Also i have heard that ginko biloba can help in some cases too but thats not something i have experience with. Thanks for making this video. I've been on Zoloft and switched to Venlafaxine a couple of years ago. Getting in to a new relationship caused me issues with being able to climax so my doctor moved from from 300mg of standard release Venlafaxine (taken as 150 in the morning and 150 in the evening) to 300mg of extended release Venlafaxine taken just in the morning. Is switching to an extended release version likely to change much if the dose is the same?

    • @PsychiatrySimplified

      In theory it is the same medication and the mechanism of venlafaxine induced sexual dysfunction remains the same. Having said that in some cases patients may notice differences. Evidence suggests that if an SNRI is needed desvenlafaxine has a lower incidence of sexual side effects. There are other agents with even lower risk outlined in video. Wish you well.

    • @TrulyHawaiianStar

      @@PsychiatrySimplified Oh ok, thank you. I was wondering what that stood for (PSSD). I have experienced it myself, the dysfunction, not permanent non-return of function, and for me, that was worse. Plus, I didn’t need the antidepressant, I have (moderate/severe)ADD, And they trying to treat with anti-depressants, Vistaril and gabapentin. It was ridiculous. I had a GeneSight test done and a GenoMind test done. They are very helpful but they do not tell you about the sexual side effects, those tests are more about a particular enzyme you might have that would increase your risk for adverse effects on certain medication‘s and things like, an enzyme that would cause other medication‘s to be less effective and other medication‘s to be more effective, etc. and the only adverse effect it tends to mention with specificity is skin rashes. I am on Vyvanse now, but when they had me on mirtazapine, Wellbutrin and gabapentin, it made me suicidal. I’m 100% sure the Gabapentin causes suicidal thoughts. The prescribing physician did not mention any of the black box warnings, it was actually very cruel for her to not tell me what to look out for. Her negligence nearly cost me my life.

      It is an SSRI like Zoloft so all SSRIs are associated with sexual dysfunction. The severity may vary - lexapro(escitalopram) tends to have a lower incidence of side effects than other SSRIs but this again may vary. We have covered medications that are less likely to lead to sexual dysfunction in the video.

    I was prescribed zoloft about 30 years ago now and it imeaditly caused me to have retrograde ejaculation. This means that the emission goes backwards, into the bladder. I only took the drug for about 2 weeks and was told that the condition would reverse. It didn't. If I had wanted to father a child I would not have been able to. Now it is causing me to be incontinent. I dribble pee after urinating. I now for sure that this was also caused by zoloft becase it involves the same muscles that are used for ejaculation. I was not warned about this before I took the shit. Needless to say I am furious. If anyone sees this and would like to join me in a class action law suit please let me know and I will provide contact information.

    Sir can there be treatment for pssd

    • @PsychiatrySimplified
      @PsychiatrySimplified  2 года назад +4

      Firstly PSSD should be definitively diagnosed and ensuring depression and anxiety and other medical causes of sexual dysfunction are ruled out. Treating PSSD is challenging, and many strategies have been suggested and tried, including serotonergic antagonists and dopaminergic agonists ( bupropion) There is still no definitive treatment for PSSD. Low-power laser irradiation and phototherapy have shown some promising results. ( 2018)

    • @SuperCody888
      @SuperCody888 2 года назад +6

      @@PsychiatrySimplified PSSD needs to be talked about more. All to often it goes misdiagnosed as depression, underlying depression, and psychological. Ive tried bupropion and I ended up in the hospital, as well it did nothing for PSSD. Low-power laser irradiation and phototherapy helps for erectile dysfunction, but does nothing for sexual desire, and libido. Again PSSD isnt erectile dysfunction ED meds work, but do nothing for libido, and sexual desire.

    Would fluoxetine cause less SD compared to escitalopram, since fluoxetine blocks 5HT2C receptors?

      Fluoxetine also activates the 5HT2A receptors as do all ssris. There may be individual differences in how people react to each medication but as a class SSRIs are associated with SD. Only fluvoxamine at 100 mg or less is associated with lower risk due to it's 5 HT1A Agonist activity.

      Not serotonin - but the antidelressant class SSRI - Paroxetine was also shown to be significantly more a potent inhibitor of the NOS enzyme activity than nortriptyline (Finkel et al. 1996). Similarly, several established antidepressants of distinct chemical classes, including imipramine, paroxetine, citalopram and tianeptine, have all been shown to inhibit hippocampal NOS activity in vivo when applied locally in the brain in therapeutically relevant concentrations (Wegener et al. 2003)
