The west coast of Barbados island is often referred to as the "Platinum Coast" and is renowned for the clear warm waters that lap gently onto golden sands. The west is much more urbanized and tourism driven. This coast is ideal for your Caribbean vacation whether it’s a family holiday or a romantic getaway.
There are several magnificent beaches along this coast ... which is the best? Only you can decide! At each of these beaches you will find the calm azure waters of the Caribbean Sea that are perfect for swimming and clean coral sands on which to relax and soak up the brilliant Caribbean sunshine.
The island of Barbados sits at a unique position on the Atlantic Ocean, farthest east of other west Indies islands at Latitude 13º10′ N & Longitude 59º 32′ W. The island is part of the ‘Lesser Antilles’, a chain of islands in the English Caribbean. Barbados is 14 miles wide and 21 miles long, with 166 square miles of beaches, forests, and quite a number of natural features that make it stand out. Barbados’s territorial boundaries extend 12 nautical miles but it enjoys an impressive 200 nautical miles of an exclusive economic zone.
The island is known for having some of the most diverse beaches in the Caribbean, where you can relax and lounge at your leisure, snorkel with turtles, or take in some water sports action. Try beaches on the west and south coasts for calm conditions, and beaches on the east coast if you fancy riding some waves.
Barbados is a coral island, pushed out of sea by volcanic activity in a far away time. On the West Coast, beaches of fine white sand stretch along a blue-green sea. Coral reefs fringe coast providing excellent snorkeling and Scuba Diving. Along the East Coast a lively surf is blown briskly by the strong and constant trade winds and the waves pound against a rocky shore.
