  • PORTO, PORGUGAL - Our one month stay in Portugal has been nothing short of phenomenal. The people, food, history and culture of the beautiful city of Porto, our base, have made us feel at home. With its magical, cobblestoned neighborhoods full of life and energy, its no wonder why it has become a must-visit European destination city. As we embed ourselves in each city we travel through for 1 month at a time, we aim to slow travel, allowing us to live more as locals rather than tourists.
    MAJESTIC CAFE: www.cafemajest...
Today, we visit the famous Majestic Café, a classic staple of Porto since 1921! Often heralded as one of the most beautiful cafe's in the world, this magical place offers incredibly well made, classic Portuguese pastries.
    A PEROLA DE BOLHAO: goo.gl/maps/jH...
Founded in 1917, this traditional Portuguese market is a shining example of the intersection of food and community in Porto. This style of small market is very common to see in Porto and throughout the country. You can find cured meats, cheeses, wines and other traditional Portuguese staple items. Today we picked up some lombo de porco (cured meat), sheep and cow cheeses, and natural butter.
MANTEIGARIA - Fabrica de pasteis de nata / DELTA COFFEEHOUSE EXPERIENCE:

Pastel de nata is known as the most famous and enjoyed pastry in Portugal. Today we visit the Manteigaria in Bolhao, a beautiful, modern space shared with Delta Coffee House Experience. The care that goes in to making these wonderful pastries is obvious as the pastry chefs churn out dozens of these treats at a time in the open kitchen visible in the café. The same care goes in to the coffee at Delta, a modern coffee shop employing modern techniques such as V60, balloon method, and AeroPress.
    MERCADO DO BOHLAO mercadobolhao.pt/
This massive, sparkling clean open-air market in the center of Porto has stalls of every sort, from flowers to cheese, wines to honeys. Strolling through this market on any day of the week is a great idea if only to take in the sights and sounds of a bustling market with fresh produce neatly packed and friendly shop owners proud to show you their products and give you a tasting. Today we picked up some beautiful tangerines to make juice, some fresh spinach pappardelle pasta, and tried Ginjinha - a Portuguese liqueur made by infusing ginja berries in alcohol (aguardente) and adding sugar and other ingredients. This spectacular market is a wonderful place to visit and should be on any Porto travel itinerary.

MASSAS E TEMPEROS DO BOLHAO (papardelle spinach pasta)
    BANCA DE FRUTAS (tangerines)

Does the food in Portugal better than the US?

Don't think you can compare the two. Portuguese food is totally different from American food. :)

@whatomorrowbrings I meant our food in the states have bad ingredients processes. Was there food more natural and didn't cause gut issues.

This is so helpful to plan our trip. How hard do you think it will be for us English Speaking only tourists?

Hi Daisy! Most restaurants speak English and always have English menus available. Additionally, locals are very friendly and assist any way they can, even if their English is not so good. You will have a great time! 🙌

Won't be a problem. We understand that not all people speak Portuguese and being a very tourist-friendly country we prepare menus for several different nationalities.
