"Swear without cigarettes" is a reference to Soojin, a former member of the group, part of the bullying accusations she suffered was saying that she smoked and cursed over the phone.I know, it sounds silly, but it was a huge mess that ended up with her leaving the group, the verse starts with "I like dance" Soojin was the main dancer, so I have no doubts
Spot on. I knew at least parts of the message(s) of the song if not the whole are about Soojin. You are right about this. So sad Soojin left because of that. In a conservative society and the behavior of most Knetizens towards Kpop idols, Soojin just couldn't escape from being crucified. Not saying what she did was right, however, everyone does make mistakes when young. So does Soojin deserve a second chance for her wrong doing in the past? You be the judge and in fact Knetizens did crucify her.
I don’t think Soyeon’s part was supposed to be a RAP rap, it was more a homage to pop-punk so she didn’t break the genre and just went the Avril Lavigne sort of way. ‘What the hell’ is also an Avril reference.
That was kind of the point. It was to try something different which is why he said not everyone will like this. Because it’s different especially Soyeon’s rap.
@@itsmayyo1584 Yeah, I didn’t disagree with that, just putting it into context since people are roasting her for it on Twitter and discrediting her rap skills because of this one stylistic choice.
at 9:33, yuqi says "just me i-dle" and on their comeback poster the letter (G) is blurred, because the (G) in (G)I-DLE are girls. in their title track, TOMBOY. and in this song they bring a genre that is rarely performed by girl groups because it is usually performed by boy groups.
As much as I love Soyeon, I think this is one of her weaker rap verses. Seeing Knox do a video to this song though, makes me want to see a video for one of Soyeon's solo songs, "Is This Bad B**** Number"
It's weak but it suits the entire song, with Tomboy, Soyeon was not intending to go full rap for this but more rock pop. She did go off in their other songs in this album though.
These girls are proving to us how talented they are each time. And like how Soyeon went away from her usual style in rap to pay homage to the punk rock genre. I'm surprised you still haven't reacted to 'Oh my god ' by them yet, sir👀. That's literally their deepest song, in terms of both visuals and lyrics
For a rap fan, a must listen for Soyeon is her solo track 'Is This Bad B****** Number?' (ft. BIBI & Young JI), plus (G)I-dle track 'Oh My God' (I think you already did a reaction to 'Lion' which I'd also recommend). All three for different reasons are some of Soyeon's best work. The mix and atmosphere of the latter I think will also really appeal to you production wise. There's a lot to sink your teeth into in both.
They are one of the most artistic groups that I've ever seen. Soyeon is so amazingly talented. My favorite performance from them is Put It Straight (Nightmare ver.) which they performed in Queendom.
Everyone saying this was Soyeon's weakest rap then you haven't heard the **UNCENSORED** version of the song (sadly only in the cd ver when i'd love to have this on my spotify playlist). This is probably her most boldest rap ever, period, and adds a lot more meaning to Tomboy and what it means for girls, especially when you read the lyrics. And the fact that she rapped in English INSTEAD of Korean is so scandalous when knowing the whole context. Don't underestimate Soyeon's songwriting capabilities just because it's not a long rap with a lot of words and it's in English guys, she never does anything halfway and I get so offended on her behalf when I see fans commenting how she shouldn't be let in the production room for the "cringe" lyrics :/
You were right about the cigarette part. "Sometimes We Swear Without Cigarette" means that they don't have to smoking to look bad hence as their former member Soojin were attacked by her classmate saying that she smokes when she was a kid.
I don't think (G)-iddle has my type of music, but I really appreciate as a musician myself the music, it is really different from other groups, specifically girl groups, that I seen. Keep up the good work girls! Also I just added your intro song into my playlist!!
Hey Knox! I know you’ve reacted to their song Lion before, but you HAVE to react to (G)-Idle’s song “Oh my God”. The lyrics and MV (and soyeon’s rap part) are chef’s kiss👌🏼
Actually, in Soyeon's rap where she says 'I like to eh on drinking whiskey' the "eh" is a censorship, in uncensored version she says 'I like to s*x on drinking whiskey'. btw, the chorus in uncensored version hits different
The Rap/Sing parts for Yuqi and Miyeon are even better when you have been following them and you have seen how much flak they would take for wanting to rap but failing at it when they are messing around. Was cool to hear the girls to give it a shot on a track.
This comeback is just fire, they went out for blood on this one! Do you plan to listen to the others songs of the album? They're all good, but I don't care what anyone would say, Villain Dies could be a Disney villain song for real
You are the first Reactor that I've seen so far who can understand really well the real meaning of Gidle songs. Almost all the messages. Thanks for your great reactions.
Does anyone else think that Soyeon is downplaying herself on purpose in this song. Coz we know and SHE knows she can eat it up! It will be a forever mystery I guess
You should definitely view some more (G)I-dle songs. Like "HWAA", "Senorita", "Oh My God", "LATATA", "Last Dance", and "HANN". Those are some of my favorites that you haven't reacted to yet anyway. Also, you MUST react to more Dreamcatcher. They are probably my favorite group, there isn't one song of theirs that I dislike. I'll list out the ones I think you should do videos on though. "BEcause", "Scream", "BOCA", "Wind Blows", "Eclipse", "Break The Wall", and of course "Deja Vu". And out of love for my dear, poorly marketed/promoted RIP group; CLC. They had some really good songs, but just never got the attention they deserved (imo). Songs of theirs I recommend are "ME", "Devil", "Helicopter", "Black Dress", "Hobgoblin", "Like It", and "No". As for off the K-train lol. You should do a reaction video for the Japanese artist, LiSA. Especially her songs for Demon Slayer. Just loads of Japanese singers and bands in general. It would take way to long to list out all the ones you should check out lol. I am also certain I have heard you mention anime several times in previous videos, so you probably know for yourself. This comment is already monstrous enough, so I'll end it.
Glad you got around to (G) I-DLE! However definitely recommend other bangers; Uh-Oh (hip hop inspired), Oh My God, I’m The Trend, and if you want to hear the other members rap the recent b-side from this album My Bag is one to check out. And for Soyeon solo, Is This Bad B*** Number is a must.
You need to react to gidle's new song "Nxde"!!! The rap there is a BOMB. And I am excited to see you decode the meaning of the lyrics as many reactors does not seem to have any clue of what's behind the lyrics. It is inspired by Manilyb Monroe and I just love how they made the lyrics. You will be amazed by Soyeon's rap there.
Soyeon is a genius and I'm not exaggerating at all, she writes, gives everyone their part and produces their title songs, it's just ridiculous, so talented. And I really love their voices because they all have their very own individual sound that makes producers be able to have a better idea on how to write songs, one of the best girl groups in K-pop
As a Gen-Xer, I grew up with the punk girl and athletic/violent anti-conformist female role model in movies like Savage Streets, Class of Nuke 'Em High, Buffy, Beetlejuice, Don't Ted Mom the Babysitter' s Dead, Adventures in Babysitting, Weird Science, or Night of the Comet, and I've always been attracted to tomboys because of it. For me this MV is incredibly reminiscent of my childhood and immensely enjoyable.
