I am viewing this from a very depressed America, Nov 16. The music, the lights & colors, and thoughts of hot banana bread have lifted my spirits! Now I can go do some good in the world 🥰
My brother passed when he was 10 I was 20. I’m 66 now and Christmas makes me feel closer to him so I decorate when the feeling hits in November. You’re never promised tomorrow so you do what’s good for you. My dad loved Xmas too and he has just passed a few months ago. My mom is in a home now with Alzheimer’s. I suppose some people would think this would be a sad time but it actually makes me feel closer to them. My daughter and grandsons love it. I loved this video Jen. Being single it makes me feel I’m not so alone. Plus I also wait till after Remembrance Day 🇨🇦
You are so right about no promise for tomorrow. I have terminal cancer at 53 and am hoping to make it through the holidays. I am going all out this year early and enjoying every single moment! I'm sorry to hear about your folks and your brother. Thanks for your encouraging words!
@thebeautyofflavor I wish you a lot of strength 🙏. My dad has terminal cancer, so it's a hard fight for all involved. All the very best and I do hope you'll enjoy the celebrations 😊
@@Anita-rq9ev I'm so sorry to hear about your dad having cancer as well. It is so, so difficult, and I send my thoughts to you and your family. Thank you.
When I had my daughter 30 years ago my neighbours were elderly and just loved her since their own grandchildren were young adults. Then they moved and left me their Christmas decorations. They are very vintage, I have repaired some, got rid of layers of sticky tape, and they go on the tree front and centre. Madge and Dennis are with us e very Christmas!
Pam here. My parents went to an artificial tree. They didn’t want to buy a huge tall one…so they took their smaller one and set it on an end table…which made it go perfectly up to just shy of ceiling with their angel on top. They found it was easier to walk around the skirted end table gave them a platform for presents or decor, other presents leaned up around table. Everyone was amazed how their ‘small’ tree had such a grand presence! When holidays over, the large tree bag went up and around it for easy storage. They only took off the ‘fragile’ ornaments. The rest remained ‘clipped on’. It was hard for them to go to an artificial tree…coming from a family where my uncles harvested and sold them…as a child we had 3 or 4 trees in our home and loads of Xmas wreaths and boughs that house was fully decked out. After kids gone, and with age, needed to be simpler and safer for them.
I used to take banana bread into work on night shifts. It worked well as a.....bribe. And it sure did taste good. I hate dealing with frozen banana with the skin on so I freeze my bananas without the skin in baggies or reusable containers.
I decided to gift the majority of my unique ornaments to my nephews this year and donate the generic glass balls. I've found it much easier and less stressful to pick one or two areas to decorate each year. Not having a tree makes it more fun and will save on space. I'm keeping a few cherished ornaments for display so I can really enjoy them.
That vintage store reminds me of a lovely shop that was about an hour from where I live, unfortunately closed now 😢. I’m in Canada on the opposite coast and it looks far greener where you live! We lived on the west coast for a year and I miss the milder weather. I decorated inside on the weekend and am enjoying the tree lights in the evening. I used to decorate towards end of November, but in 2020, I started decorating on the long weekend in Nov and I love being able to enjoy our decorations longer. Now I’m craving banana bread…
Well this vlog was definitely a change of pace for you. 😂 But, I loved it! These days it's hard for me to get into the Christmas spirit due to reasons I won't go into. But, watching your video really lifted my spirits and inspired me a little. Thank you! 🎄 Wish I could have been there to try your banana bread. I could almost smell it and your simmer pot through my phone. 😄 I really enjoyed it and look forward to seeing the rest of your decorating. Have a great week and see you next Wednesday! --Paula in Ohio USA 🙋
My dad loved Christmas so much so for me Christmas starts in November . My house is already ready. I see the real Santa I knew and loved so much, my dad. Christmas makes me happy. I also love banana bread 😅😅😅😅
My son brings my tree up from my outside storage building at Thanksgiving, November 28th, and does the lights. I then have all the time I want to enjoy getting my Nativity and other decorations out and up. I leave the tree up until sometime in February because the lights lifts my mood and helps me to feel warm and cosy.
I loved this new style of video for you. I hope you do many more like it. Take us on adventures with you and show us your local area. I love seeing the antique shop. The cooking segment was very fun and I love the simmer idea. I am definitely going to do that. I am not a fan of artificial fragrances so this is a great idea. Doing more of a Vlog idea will help us get a better picture into your activities and local area. Show us seniors your adventures. I plan to start a RUclips channel soon. I turned 60 in a couple of weeks and one of the things I hope to do is share my activities as well as share my many years of accumulated wisdom the same way you have been doing. Great video!
Thanks Jen for that awesome video. I almost feel like I was in your kitchen or living room. The smell from the banana bread and your pot on the stove must’ve been amazing thank you. Looking forward to your decorating.
That’s exactly how we freeze and thaw bananas for our bread! Using them that way they make the best bread! Love the new video! Love to see you out and about and cooking! Fun!
That banana bread looks delicious. It will go so well with a cup of tea in this cold weather (in the UK). I bet it smells amazing in your kitchen while it's been cooking! 😍
HI Jen. I really enjoyed this departure from your usual format. I now feel in the mood for baking and decorating ☺ I love the simmer pot which I will do when I plan to be home most of the day. The SL Vintage store displays everything so nicely. I have been, and they have fabulous finds!
I am recently retired and moved to The Philippines. I am a beginner without any knowledge of vlogging. Your channel inspired me to start, you are invaluable resources for aspiring like me, providing wealth of knowledge and inspiration. Take care always!🙂
Very festive! I also freeze my bananas, but I always peel them first and then put them into a freezer bag. Easier to deal without the blackened skins imo!
Delightful video!Great idea for antique/vintage Christmas trimmings. The banana loaves looked great. The music was uplifting too. You’ve helped out me getting ready for the Christmas holiday decorating mood. Thanks!❤️🎄
This gave me such joy this morning when I woke up way too early from stress. I watched your video as I prepared hazelnut breakfast granola bars (PickUpLimes) for my daughter. My mood is 🎉 better. Summer pots - I’m going to try that :) Thanks!! (PS good choice on the music too)
Vanilla and walnuts, yes and yes! The simmer pot looks amazing. That reminds me of a gift idea I’ve seen online where you make little jars filled with the ingredients for a simmer pot. Might have to do that this year! 🎄
Oh this was such a joyful, feel good video! Really enjoyed this and thank you for taking us along with you to the wonderful antiques shop. Greetings from 🇬🇧
I love Christmas even though I'm agnostic. One year I left my Christmas tree up so long that I decorated it for Valentine's Day. I don't need permission. 😉
Hahaaaaa, your thumbnail made me laugh! "Too soon, too bad!" I was like, "She's my people!"😂🎄❤️ I wish I lived there so I could go to that vintage barn. Beautiful! Love the ornaments you bought. And I could almost smell your home with the banana bread and simmer pot. So fun and looking forward to more!🎄❤️
Thanks for the fall simmer pot reminder...I have mulling spices sitting in my cupboard that would be perfect for that. I make the mistake of leaving them til Christmas then getting busy and forgetting them....just the antidote to these November storms!
A lot of fun variety in this video! We always wait until the day after Thanksgiving to start decorating for Christmas, but seeing this makes it a little tempting to start early! 🙂
I'm not a Christmas celebrant... and this was still enjoyable to watch. I think I'll try some simmer pot varieties. My stove top has a warmer, making it pretty easy. Thanks, Jen!
I am loving your videos and consider you an inspiration! I just started my RUclips journey (like as of today!) at 44 and look to all you have done in the past year. It gives me hope that I can figure out this whole RUclips thing and actually help people. All to say keep doing what you're doing. Oh and I love when I can find vintage Christmas decor in the wild (aka garage sales and thrift stores!).
When it comes to decorating for Christmas, I am not consistent. Some years I begin November 1, and others might be any day in between then and Christmas. I loved this video. Thanks for sharing!
Lovely video, very festive 🙂 I got a box of old, coloured, glass Christmas baubles, different sizes and colours (maybe from 1960s, or earlier) from an antique centre (uk) and use them on a vintage glass cake stand, (from the same place). Fairy lights around it all looks lovely and sparkly.
This was such an uplifting vlog to watch ! Thank you for sharing with your viewers . ❤ I love walnuts in the banana bread too and chocolate chips are nice also . 💕

What a pleasant way to start my morning--and you are so right, to not decorate outside until after 11 November . . . here in the states, it also seems appropriate, though more and more rare, to wait until after our day of Thanksgiving to turn toward the yuletide season . . . plenty of time for all, each in its own season.

Hi Jen! What a fun video. I swear I could smell both that yummy looking banana bread and the simmer pot. Two years ago hubby and I decided to start decorating Nov. 1st. Why? Because we could and we wanted to...reason enough. My darling hubby of almost 55 years passed away in June. The holidays are bittersweet this year, but I am decorated, gifts are wrapped and under the tree and today I will start writing out Christmas cards! Happy Holidays!!
