For me what puts me off roaming is class balance & power creep. If there is a solo roamer about its most likely a will bender or a thief and I just don't enjoy fighting them with their infinite mobility/stealth. Just feels frustrating to fight classes that have so many outs whilst being able to blow you up instantly if you don't react properly.
Fr. People exploit the most broken mechanics and builds in the game with the sole purpose of making the experience as unfun for everyone else as you can and then whine when people stop giving you content.
@limpingllama57 very true. Even in zergs now theres so many willbenders at this point its laughable they dont nerf it. Its boring as fuck to play too literally same thing everytime tele in spin finish if downed or tele away
Noody i understand and completely agree with your statements but you forgot another important fact. GW2 despite wvw there is pve which means that a lot of pve players play wvw cause they need gifts of battle which are containable in wvw, nowadays almost every legendary needs gift of battle and a lot of pve players are going into this proccess which is a painful experience for them cause every guild i am at we always have players say things like "have to get gift of battle again, time to suffer". It isnt a very good experience for us so were looking for the best possible method which is joining a big squad. Thats the main reason that squads have grown a lot from time to time.
It's gotten to the same state as Spvp. Rusted on Veterans will utterly demolish anyone new an infinite number of times and the only recourse for someone trying it out is to give up, ie. run away or change maps. It's like someone booking a training session at a local tennis club and having to play against Novak Djokovic.
I started playing a week ago after a 5 year break. I totally agree with the points made in the video. A lot of shocking changes for me as a returning roamer / pvp player, but what bothers me most is there is no roamer / pvp etiquette anymore. Back in the days people would respect 1v1, zergs would just pass you and let you fight. I remember specific roamer spots where you could do 1v1 and other roamers would watch without hindering you and respecting the fight. After 5 years, I am very rusty getting my ass kicked all the time in pvp. I used to be good. Back then I put a lot of time and effort to get good, it happend naturally. Now I realize how hard that path actually was, the skill cap in GW2 PVP is very high compared to other games. This discourages people to go the hard way, so they opt for the easy way. I believe even from the beginning GW2 PVP was too hard for people, it always had a high entry barrier. I came from WOW back then, many were discouraged by PVP. You need to be mentally strong and understand that every encounter will make you better, you got to pay your dues but few are willing to do that.
I never really understood the WvW roaming tbh but the highlight videos definitely got me into trying roaming. I started out solo roaming about 8 years ago or so and it just felt lonely and kinda useless. So what if I found 3 people that didn't know how to fight me and win out of the skin of my teeth? No one really cares at the end of the day. I feel like roaming was formed because of dailies and some people didn't feel like getting into big groups so they just went at it solo running into other solo roamers. These days I think people are just getting smarter and realizing there is just no point to it. WvW isn't designed for it at all. That's why brain kinda scrambles on this topic because there was never a point. It was just glorified fun. I really don't think power creep did all that much harm to it. Boon ball is always an issue everywhere, but that alone doesn't kill roaming imo.
Yeah I never understood that reasoning. It's not spvp, its a game mode designed for using strategy and large groups of people to win. How is it a bad thing if tou're taking a camp and 20 people show up? They want to keep their camp, so the allocated resources to it. If you're ganking runbacks and blocking reinforcements, is it that surprising when a group of people hunt you down to stop you? So what if people are running a five-stack with supports to cap things? Get your own people to stop them. That's what makes this game mode so good, using strategy and prioritizing objectives to defend or take. Idk why there is this idea of the sanctity of a 1v1 came from. If you just want to 1v1, there are plenty of avenues to do so, but if you're taking objectivea or messing around annoying people, its pretty obvious that you may draw someone's ire and have them respond in kind.
The simple answer is that some ppl like to showcase their strength 😂 Like they can easily solo other players or escape a small group without dying. It gives them confidence and satisfaction. Although some ppl just want to be an asshole when constanly annoying other players (like thief).
It also has gone wrong, because on every server, or now, in every alliance, there are groups of chronically online GW2 veterans, who probably either played for far too long and are bored or are just shitty human beings in general, who seem to literally do nothing else the whole day, than to play the most abusive group combos and literally specialize in ganking people. They don't want to fight, they just want to troll and be as abusing as possible, as often reflected in their guild names, as it seems. Played on an a "virgin" alt account recently (inspired by Teapot's Zero to Hero) and tried to roam a little in WvW with a core ranger build. I didn't expect much tbh., because, well, it's a core ranger build with shitty gear and even the guards where a little challenge (missing WvW levels and therefore traits), but I didn't expect to be as fucked up by the experience as I was. I constantly ran into a guild group of around 10 thieves, mesmers and willbenders. Nothing else. Couldn't do shit. They had their sadistic fun apparently, but I didn't. (Couldn't even switch maps, because of queues, but I have a feeling that it wouldn't have been a better experience on another border). edit: That are probably the same people who constantly trash PvE players in map and team chat. Pseudo elitists who clearly have to compensate for something, probably a shitty real life. It's especially ironic when these people have over 30k AP, which you simply can't get from WvW/PvP alone, and of course the fact, that WvW is linked to the PvE gear and build system. Kappa If that is the experience lots of new players have, it's no wonder new people don't want to play WvW. I have no idea what you can do against this, because shitty people will always exist, but I'm fairly certain that, if that would have been my WvW experience like 8 years ago, I would have never played GW2 as long as I have.
A big issue with roaming is that those small scale roamers (3-5) always have support in their parties. Most of them try to fight players and don't even cap towers but run a party based build? At that point, they should not be considered roamers. Us solo roamers can't do anything at that point.
Most of those "roaming guilds" will run comp group just to 5v1/2 people, but as soon as its even close to similar numbers, they start running away. 1v1 you just kill them ezpz. The thing you can do is simply move away from them and starve them for their content.
@@contaim7227 Been trying to learn shatter mesmer and a guy from a compd group bm'd me after I almost killed him without even knowing what skills were on my keybinds. That was my first game on mesmer after returning to the game too...
@@Envoy.2594 Thats kind of my point. New WvW players will take literal years to max out the masteries, where in less than a year I could have maxxed them twice. It does also impact your pips/rewards
Brooo, I miss Vaanss! I saw a CAKE Guildie about six months ago. Talked to them a little and they said the Guild was dead, basically, then they just ported and disappeared. Sad. Make Roaming Great Again! [EDIT:] Ironically, Alliances killed WvW. All the people that wanted it never came back. Now we're stuck w/ this awful crap.
Personally, I think boonshare was a mistake. Or at least the way it's currently implemented with how you just push one button and you suddenly have x this or x that (perma 25might is really easy to get for some classes). I wanna go back to the time where strategy with combo fields were actually crucial, this change alone will significantly hamstring the mindless zerg play.
@vonezerq yeah I agree. Gw2 was unique because it didn't force you to play the usual MMO tank/healer/dps, but they created the demon, which is support (dps/healer/tank/and boons!).
This is exactly why I quit WvW years ago. Everyone I ran into had every boon in the damn game and I got sick of it. I miss when having boons was tactical and situational.
I definitely agree. I really miss the importance of comboing fields. That actually made it feel more like a team effort at least in my opinion. I dont remember the boons being so permanent or abundant back then either. Good times.
@@RosaKaraline You're right combos fields seem secondary to move combos now (everything is so quick). Also I guess boon balls have always been popular, but the nasty boons like quickness/alac/resistance were all added a bit later in HoT expansion. Do you think that's when it started to go nuts?
@@StagWithLag Could be. I missed a lot before I came back recently and the changes since core was quite staggering. I'd say it's probably worse balance now than back then, but I don't envy the devs' job tbh. there has been a lot added over the years to consider. I think it'd be better though if boons weren't quite so abundant or strong. the newer boons probably didn't help things either, even if I am rather fond of quickness at times (especially for slow weapons like necro GS).
6:20 yep...look at it from the zerger's perspective. In their eyes you're the annoying guy who picks off a zerg build who is essentially USELESS in a 1vs1 or even 3vs1 fight. The vast majority of roaming encounters I experienced were just guys with gear and builds set out to absolutely DESTROY the guys trying to get back to the zerg. They actively avoided the other roamers who gave them a fair/hard fight.(obviously not you and other YTubers) It really doesn't take much skill to kill a zerg build with a roaming build, I know because I'm DOGGO at sPVP yet I could go in with my meta roaming cele build and dunk like a pro on those zerg kids. It would be incredibly difficult to find a balance for it...maybe a whole new mode actually.
That’s why we have build and gear templates. Any zergling who tries to run back to zerg without swapping to a roaming or more 1v1 build deserves to get farmed. I roam and zerg and when I’m running back to my zerg I switch to my roam build. The optimistic zergling killers get a nice surprise l
@@joespart4782 that's the dumbest response i have ever seen my entire life LOL , Just switch to another set brother so you can have 1v1 with a useless roamer instead of catching up to your zerg . are you okay , my dude ?
@@crymeariver94 you sound like a guy who has died a few too many times to a roamer. And by the aggressiveness of your response you take this game way too seriously. Go outside and touch some grass. Lmao
Im a newbie, when strong roamers are there and theres no tag that i can go along i just leave change map or do something else. 😂 i mean i try to fight like twice or so but theres no point for me to stay and get murdered over and over again.
I think the real issue is that there are so many roamers now that want to cast you on their wvw montage that they don't stand a chance of actually getting stuff done if they're casuals or new, other than stand in a zerg. People avoid spvp for the very same reasons they avoid roaming solo: getting curbstomped sucks and is zero fun at all. Anyway, wvw is meant to cater for everyone, not just roamers. If you're going to whinge because you've driven other roamers to stay within safety in numbers, just go to spvp and hang out with your other elitist friends.
I play spvp and wvw. I face good players in pvp, I win some and I lose some and don’t mind getting curbstomped. I like wvw more because there’s a cowboy wild west aspect to it you can just pick fights and not have to play objective. Then you come across 10+ man zergs in “dominant” alliances which split off form previously big servers who spam aoe and hard chase casual roamers in a zerg with carried builds thinking they’re good but cry the moment another organised blob that properly knows how to fight in a large group beat them. This rarely happens tho because the opposing alliances aren’t as active. The only ones I hear crying in roamer montage videos is zergers or a salty guild that got dunked on. All the roamers I’ve seen go around fighting other good roamers and blobs come in and gank them 100% of the time. Roamers will gank your tail end but it ain’t their life objective and will let a whole group run by looking for other fights. If you’re complaining about your “noob” tail end of blob being picked off well too bad I guess? It’s wvw, the roamer is trying to weaken your blob. Why should the zerg feel “annoyed” if they’re being targeted? If we go by your logic, you shouldn’t whinge about “elitist” picking off your zerg, it’s helping their alliance.
I would agree that the mount was the first big wrong thing they added to WvW. Can't undo that now but it wasn't a good add. Used to play a ton of WvW on launch and for the first year and a half until I quit for 9 years. Coming back, WvW feels terrible with mounts. Removal of credit for repairing plus lack of real reward for roaming it just... doesn't feel good.
As a thief main, I agree. Shadow arts needs to be nerfed, Anets rework of the shadow arts traitline made it arguably stronger. As I mentioned though, in the Zerg fest that is WvW, people resort to playing such builds to survive and OOC when needed.
cele nerf changed nothing, as expected. Because cele was not the problem and is not the problem. Willbender is the problem. Harbinger is the problem. Stealth is the problem. Willbender does not use cele. Harbinger does not use cele. Thieves do not use cele.
Fighting thieves these days is just a boring chore these days. Wvws current proglem is more of a community problem than wvw balance itself tbh. Roamers just wanna pick zerglings that are easy kills on comp builds not on duelist builds. And on the other end blobs dont really want to run if they arent 40+. Both ends are extremes and biproducts of each other.
@@Noodythieves were ubiquitous before boon sharing were as strong years ago. They exist and will continue to gank regardless of the Zerg fest in wvw. I roam as a necro. 90% of the thieves I encounter are permanstealthing or port so far to break combat when I get any sort advantage over them, and come back over and over again until I die. Don’t kid yourself, even without the Zerg fest, thieves will still run the same kind of builds so they almost never die.
I roamed back at launch and it was incredible how much pride people had in their server and the objectives in WvW. Teamspeak server would be fully packed with different channels filled and people were assigned different maps to patrol on reset. There was respect among players and what you did really felt like it mattered. Fast forward to today, Alliances are a disorganized mess and the few “roamers” that exist are usually just glorified mini zergs with tempests or god awful thief players that are useless outside of a 5v1 gank. Not only that but people are incredibly toxic and angry all the time even though the game mode is inherently uncompetitive. its basically just a giant TDM who’s winner is decided by whoever has more people online. Do yourself a favor, if you still roam in gw2 go to Spvp.
I did that and encountered that ranked spvp is dead too. At least in Europe. I ranked up to Diamond and a long the way ive seen the same 20 people over and over again. Silver people getting matched with the top 5 players or Diamond ranks. Matchmaking took ages. Up to 15 minutes for a match only to reenter the queue because someone was afk and didnt click on the popup.
@@cluster1142 i’m assuming you mean plat? Idk what qs are like on EU but in NA they pop pretty fast i prob wait an average of 5 minutes at any time of day. but yeah at the end of the day the community is small both in wvw and pvp . I try to do a little of both nowadays

I've been yapping abt this a bit while streaming but yea, I think a new season of MRGA would be cool and even helpful. Potentially showing newer players how fun/satisfying it can be to get outnumbered clips might encourage them to improve and try to do the same. c:
Class balance, server performance, and both individual and server/guild rewards. That's what WvW needs and has been needing for years. Anet focuses exclusively on blob gameplay, hence the world restructuring, an idea that resonated with the community like 5 years ago, but not today.
Back before wizards tower, folks did not need to choose between WvW, PvE, and sPvP dailies. Sometimes, WvW daiies were easier than the PvE ones, so I would simply hit up WvW solo. But now that isn't possible, unless you commit to it for the week.

I'd like to share my thoughts as a relatively new player in GW2. I've been enjoying WvW, both solo roaming and participating in zergs. However, I believe one reason roaming can be off-putting for newcomers is the game's complexity, particularly with the numerous skills, buffs, and passives involved. To encourage more players to engage in roaming, I think it's essential for ArenaNet to provide better access to information. For instance, a death recap feature would be incredibly helpful, allowing players to see which skills hit them, why they may not have dealt damage, and similar insights. While there is an option to create a combat log in chat and it often becomes overwhelming with information. I'm not suggesting that the game should be simplified for new players, but rather that the necessary information to help us compete on the same level as more experienced players should be more readily accessible. Because right now i would need to level up every class in the game to max level and unlock all the elite specializations just to read the skill descriptions and see the animations. Which is a lot of investment. On the other topics in the video, I'm to new and inexperienced to actually have a valid opinion but i wanted to say this a great video trying to asses the state of the game and help both Anet and the community narrow down a better experience for roaming.
Force PvE players into WvW because it's the only way to get certain rewards and you expect the people who don't want to PvP to go in and try to do it by themselves when there is a much easier more beneficial way to go about it... not sure what to expect. I wouldn't touch it if I didn't have to just because I like to play my own builds, but going up against someone who is "meta" for WvW and it feels almost impossible... I get it, it's competitive and the whole "get good" is actually a thing, but I don't feel like playing the same cookie cutter build that everyone else is running, because they have to to be able to even play, is exactly engaging or creative game play... "Given the opportunity, players will optimize the fun out of a game."
Boons went from class useful identity skills to everything up 24/7, before not everyone could give everything and it was situational, not required at all times. Now everything is balanced around having boon uptime, that includes PvE and WvW, which is dumb
i started playing when the state of roaming was so bad (around 1.5 years ago) and did enjoy it for a while (its imo the most fun thing in the game) but the more i understood the less i could like it and slowly just fully stopped playing gw2
I don't play much WvW, but when I do it's because some epic roaming video has inspired me to try something new out there. I would love to see a new season of MRGA, though I do worry about the difficulty the roamers will have getting their clips in this state. But those videos were so much fun.
I'm a Hardore Casual. Open World. WvW is PvE with muggers for me. I solo roam to flip Camps (those Gifts of Battle won't earn themselves y'know). And I use my Power Reaper to do it because I am here to suffer. Slow Prof with no mount was Not Fun. Fix those Ruins. Make capping a Ruin count as Participation at least. If I'm capping I'm losing ticks and getting Gifts of Battle takes longer. Crossed paths with rival Solo Roamers and I often die, sometimes I get a kill. Then a zerg steamrollers me into the mud. But I don't quit because Reapers Don't Run (largely because we can't). Was in a Guild mob once and we had a blast talking a load of old toot on Discord, it was fun. But is a dozen players really a zerg? But make claiming those mid-map Ruins viable for one lone idiot wanting to make a Legendary, please.
1. There's usually not enough population to have borderlands action like in the past. These could easily be addressed by increasing alliance sizes but Anet wants everyone to pile into EBG and nowhere else. EBG has roaming but often its pretty dead even when the map is full or else ganking more than roaming. 2. Objective size shrinking on camps makes defense kind of pointless. Defending camps used to be a source of good fights at all scales, even zerg fights, but the circles are so small you either win or lose the fights much more quickly and now there's no chance to contest vs larger groups. 3. WvW builds have become way more optimized and higher skill cap. There's a bigger difference between average vs good builds and players, or maybe I'm biased but 1v2s and 1v3s are easier than any other time in the past for me. This isn't inherently a bad thing so there may not be a good fix, but it might discourage median-skilled or newer players that might have otherwise tried to roam. The cele nerf was a step in the right direction at least. 4. As noted, supports and minstrel set is too strong. Support might be okay if minstrel got a nerf. Boon duration/concentration was kind of a mistake in a WvW context. They already knew this for PvP sets but now they have tools to balance WvW independently of PvE. This doesn't affect solo players as much after the cele nerf removed ~50% bonus duration but every other scale including small groups will abuse boon spamming and duration from supports because it's too strong (nerf/remove minstrels from WvW)
unpopular opinion: I feel like nerfing cele was a bad call because it makes the builds that pushed everyone to cele stronger and doesn't deal with the issue of the unfun builds that either perma stun or 1-tap from nowhere. like yeah sure it could use a nerf, but you're taking the bandage off not realizing the presence of a gaping wound.
What happened to roaming? W.I.L.L.B.E.N.D.E.R running amok barely untouched for more than 2 YEARS. No one want to be deleted in seconds if they don't play anything other that meta class/build. So people and particularly newbies naturally go where the fighting environment is safer > Zerg. Is willbender the only culprit? of course not, but it is one of the big contributors for sure.
Id love to petition anet to make Edge of the Mists replace a borderland? That way we'd have Alpine, Desert, combination eotm and EBG. I suppose theyd have to make Alpine bigger and more complex to match the other's and they wouldnt have the budget for that
Simple solution: give single players bonus stats, or give negative stats to players in direct proportion to how many teammates you're with (just calculated depending on distance to other players). That way you would be stronger if you're alone, or vice versa weaker when you're in a too big group, naturally leading to people spreading out.
tfw WR doesn't even solve the population problem lol. These big guilds claim they wanna fight each other but they only double team to gank on an outnumbered server that can barely put up a fight. I mean let's be real here these boonballs just wanna farm some pugs let's call it what it is. The new alliance is just the old stacked server in disguise except it's all guild runs. WvW was amazing when there were vaious playstyles but it is a shadow of the former self now. It used to be soooo much fun. We would have a zerg, midium sized guild raid, havoc teams, scouts, clouds, roamers all doing their thing. Now I just see 2 private guild runs wtih 5 roamers outside the group that aren't allowed to play because they'd get perma zerg'd down by 20 bored enemies. It's so unbalanced you can't even do anything small scale. Most people I played with don't even log on anymore but I guess the balance devs and GvG peeps are having fun? The funny thing is I don't even see sweat guilds raid anymore lol. Also warclaw was a mistake but that ship had sailed a long time ago, it's only the tip of the iceberg given how dogshit garbo wvw is nowdays.
I was literally getting ganked heavy by blue and a green thief joins the fight and guess what he does? He bursts me and then got the stomp and they didn’t even chase the thief after that lmfao
I Absolutely love your content and always give it a watch when you upload something, I wanted to throw my opinions into the matter this time regarding WvW Roaming & Zerging as a whole. I Use to Roam as a Mesmer back before expansion packs came out, And I use to duo roam with a friend who played thief, We had a lot of fun back then especially pre-mount days as it was easier to pick off stragglers running back to their zergs, After PoF sadly I didn't touch the game until SotO came out and lost a lot of my "Muscle Memory". Getting back into Roaming has been extremely challenging due to the following reasons (for me personally) - Everyone can just escape on their mounts - If I come across a roaming thief I'm basically dead and struggle to learn how to outplay them on any other class (Thief seems to counter thief but I struggle to find other classes) - As you said more people are interested in Zerging for the rewards (I am guilty of this most nights when I'm too exhausted to concentrate) I Think I'm going to be picking up a new class soon and learn it in both PvP & WvW to learn it in a different environment other than PvE, Ranger is the class I've not really touched since base game so maybe I'll throw some hours in and learn from hundreds of hours of mistakes, But I won't lie it's still daunting and terrifying when there are so many Zergs or Thieves out there.. I'd love it if they turned Edge of the Mists into a big open space without the 3 teams where you can go in with a party up to 5 and enter a "Battle Royale" like mode with WvW rules in place (Not sPvP and no Mounts/Gliding), They could do short burst modes of this that run hour to hour (Or 30 minutes if an hours to long) and have a silly little end of hour scoreboard just for bragging rights like they do for seasonal event minigames and nothing more, Those who participate get rewards for staying and being active as well as obvious loot bags from kills (Maybe even a new Legendary item to entice people or make it another way to get WvW Tickets). I did use to love roaming, I either need a coach or a shed ton of videos to learn as information never really sticks these days (due to exhaustion aha) Keep up the great videos! always eager to see more.
10:35 describes pretty much everything wrong with WvW at any scale. If you want content, you're basically forced to always take initiative and attack first. Otherwise it turns into a staring contest. Even organized blob guilds will sit there camping a choke waiting for the enemy to push. I mean yes, sometimes it's for tactics, but the majority of the time people just always want the advantage and once they realize it's going to be a real fight they just immediately head for the hills. And yea people are toxic as all hell. It's a really bad feeling to help servermates that were struggling to deal with enemy roamers and then they BM the enemy when they clearly would have gotten trashed without help. I was helping them because we're on the same team, not so they can spam shitty emotes. It just makes everyone look bad. Why they killing the content like that? Also running roamers off a map is super lame too. That often results on a dead map when you're just piling on anyone that tries to come in. Gotta give people some space for content. And yea supports are too much in this game. Roaming with a pccket healers is good memes, but when people are running like 3 supports + 2 dps and chasing down singles, it's ughhh.
@ArchonW damn bro how u explain my gw2 life? Everytime im winning like 1v2 and more come to help they get toxic as hell like bro... and when I wanna roam a map a zerg will chase me around cuz they got nothing else to do till i swap maps, sometimes I log off like fuck that shit not today im just tryna get some good fights
My take on this honestly is that the introduction of the wizards vault and gift of battle and wvw legendaries is what caused the death of roaming. Gw2 is a decade old and most of the players who are roaming are full kitted with ascended items or higher. Solo roaming and small scale roaming takes a lot of game knowledge and skill to execute. You have to mostly know every skill, every build, every combo, and every match up to actually successfully do it consistently --especially in outnumbered situations. As a returning player who played pre POF and only returned during EOD, it can be daunting task to solo roam if you know that there are only two types of players available in the wild --veteran roamers who have all the best builds and items or 3-5 mounted players running back to their zerg are what you encounter, It discourages new players who only have subpar exotic items and builds to play solo or small scale roam and forces them to zerg in order to get more rewards and items in order to buff up their characters and build stats. And once they get to build that, they look into different end game content like raids, fractals, and strikes for faster gold to build towards the next grind such as legendaries. The power creep is insane now with the amount of elite specs and build customization you can do plus the fact that there isn't really much reward for roaming aside from boosting your ego in 1v1 or slightly outnumbered fights. A lot of players only go to WvW for the wizard vault dailies and weeklies and only play the game mode for 10-20 mins and move to different content because there isn't much incentive to do so from a gear & gold standpoint. With so much new content and power creep, most of the new players who are running exotic gears are only going to WvW to farm rewards to gear up their characters because they think they'll get clapped by veteran roamers who have full legendaries and fully kitted builds and they feel like they need to zerg up in order to faster approach that level of gear. And once they do, they get clapped by veteran players who know all the skills and match ups memorized and are able to play effectively without heals and boons from supports and it further makes them think that the reason they lost is because their enemies had better gear than them instead of the fact that they lack game sense because they've only been playing passively in a zerg. The skill difference between veteran roamers and new players is a big gulf and by the time it takes the new players to finally try roaming, veteran players are gone because everyone is zerging up and the cycle continues. For a lack of a better term, there isn't much incentives for new wvw players to "git gud" in roaming. Only time I actually had fun roaming and not zerging up was when players in EBG go to ruins and line up for the 1v1s and res each other after each down because no one wants to solo roam and finally find another solo player only to get run over by 3 other mounted players before the 1v1 even starts.
I feel like if WvW changed in the direction where winning actually mattered, then roaming would've naturally become more active, since big blobs would have to spread out to control more objectives.
imo what really kills roaming is the fact that everything can do anything like you said, theres no variety within specs anymore its just whatever is more broken at the time around, like virtuso spear i could bet that before you never seen many of them, now you go to wvw and there's lots of them, people don't play for fun anymore and for skill but rather for what is more broken, additionally its just beats the whole point of mechanics ingame, the fact that virtuso can basically ignore all game mechanics due to so many ways it can get invulnerability is absolutely busted, as someone who only plays glasscannon builds i have to perfectly dodge every single attack only to get blasted by singular f1 for me to get one shot like ?
I ported in to OS tonight and had the outnumbered buff, I asked in team chat "Is there GvGs or duels going on in OS?" I was roasted for it 🤬 small fights are dead and that's the way Anet wants it.
I think one of the issues with roaming is the format really changed beyond expectations : it seems 40 people roamers squads has become meta in one particular EU alliance.
I'm a new player (under level 100 in WvW), and I like to rock a roaming build and hang out with Zergs. That way, when I find myself alone at least I have some chance, and those are the only moments I'll fight other roamers as the skill gap between a new player and a veteran roamer is quite large. (A lot of times, I only see Mithril and Diamond players roaming)
Genuinely, I think in most cases WvW rank doesn’t depict how good someone is. The amount of diamond players I’ve encountered who aren’t “good” and have likely only been Zerg players is astonishing
@Noody I was just about to say im only bronze and cook up platinum players all day. Honestly class match up determines it more for me, what class im currently on and its weakness.
I hate to say this, but I agree. Roaming is mostly dead, and if you want any content or to do anything, it relies a lot on boonstrip or to have builds that are able to do so. I roam and sometimes play with my guildies and friends, and its just so boring to fight boonballs constantly. I miss wvw when mounts weren't a thing. I am glad that celestial gear was nerfed, but they seriously need to do something about the boonballs. Its to a point where i see the enemy zerg just stand there, stacked, and they just heal through everything then run us over.....Imagine playing a full dps build and that shit happens 💀💀
These arguments have been something I've been feeling as well. I personally like running small groups with friends, but that's nearly impossible now. We used to take big objectives that weren't being guarded well, but now a zerg can be there in no time. I hate they nerfed things like Stealth Gyro, portals, etc... that did add a lot of fun for both small groups and Zergs. It seems like Anet only wants big blobs for some reason. Who asked for that? As for roaming, yeah I feel that. There is a timer in my head for when others will show up once I start a fight. Also, what is with the balancing. We had 25 on EBG reset this week with a map Queue? How is that possible? We saw maybe 3 or 5 pugs on the map with us. Either their algo is F'd up or the balancing is bugged. I keep hearing people say they're happy that Cele was nerfed but did anything really change? Are fights better? It's all the same. Still one shots out there and impossible 70 person zergs. Cele was hardly the problem.
Just in 2 hours of playing today, I had 10+ people WP on sight, and some people even alt+f4 upon being put into combat. I’m not sure why there seems to be an even stronger stigma against dying than there ever used to be. WP is free and there’s no such thing as armor damage anymore so like???? Then when you do find people who don’t wp, they’re a group of 3+ (usually comprised of the same people who WPd when they were solo) and they BM/siege when they inevitably kill you. That being said, the Roamers I do run into are still super friendly chill people for the most part. I think the biggest fix would be making it possible for Roamers to do something to larger groups again but all builds are too mobile for hit and runs
@@itssobalanced if you cant handle the heat get out of the kitchen or use " block " which is implemented for that reason , pvp will always be toxic in any game No body plays the mode for "nice community" it;s a mode to dominate others ,showing off your rank , flexing your skill ,where egos clash
Also if we're ranting today projectile denial in boon blobs is out of control. Makes sniping supports hard and they nerfed power mirage (the only spec that could reliably snipe supports or tags in blobs). The devs prioritise boon ball balance and playstyle, penalising roaming build balance (pretty sure anet devs get butthurt getting ganked by roamers running back to their zergs)
Personally I just want permanent stealth to be removed. I've never found it fun to fight against. Make Roaming Great Again!.... Is it too soon for those kind of jokes?
@bimbamboum3320 idk I tend to get my bigger Xs in EBG, the smaller maps I feel have more vets and EBG more zerglings. Could easily get 60v1 in EBG tho 😆 🤣
@@contaim7227 that's what I'm saying ! no wonder why the new players just go zerging with no regard to roaming, it's just not playable for most classes unless you're actually good (witch I'm not)
I quit 5 years ago because my guild hated the zerging. I’m back now and the problem is the same. Maybe they could make squads a max of 20? Otherwise it needs a complete overhaul like gw3. For now, just trying to enjoy what I can
I have a lot of nostalgia for the core days. I miss it a lot actually. I've been trying to roam lately and keep running into builds I don't really know how to work around (like willbenders). I used to have no issues fighting harbs with my reaper using projectile denial but even then they keep getting me lol. Not sure what happened in the last 4 months I was gone but something feels different. I'm mostly casual in gw2 anymore due to life responsibilities so I don't have as much time sunk into it. Anyway interesting vid, I appreciate your takes. :)
Hot take maybe? I think it'd help if warclaws all came with lance already. When new players come into wvw to roam, they have no way to dismount/engage anyone who's just trying to get to their next zerg, and as the comment in the vid said, when you have 10 minutes of no fights you just don't want to be in wvw anymore.
Game needs better tools to break up boon balls. There is no downside to traveling in a large pack because you can apply boons/healing far faster than you can counter it. lower target caps for boons/healing and increase the number targets for AOE attacks and Boon corruption. Make it so stacking is a liability and it will encourage people to spread out.
I dislike wvw, in fact if I didn't need GoB I wouldn't engage with it at all. That being said I feel for your plight and I hope things will get better so you can have fun again.
May be a little off-topic, but what killed WvW for me in general is the new alliance system. Big guilds with good players form an unkillable team and the rest can take the scraps. Those teams consist of players doing Gift of Battle or players that just want to take a look at WvW, decide it's shit and then leave again. My guild is small, we went with bigger guilds before, but those guilds eventually started to tag up with private tags only for members of their guild. I felt comfortable on my old server where I knew the commanders, their schedule and some of the regular players. I enjoyed big fights, to me that was fun. I didn't mind doing either ppt or purely zerg vs zerg. As for roaming, it became frustrating at one point because playing against yet another thief or willybender just isn't fun. Plus constantly getting ganked by a guild group of 3-5 players wasn't fun either. Then add my ADHD brain and my general lack of skill and you mostly just end up being frustrated about yourself ... Let's just ignore EBG and the constant clouding in and around SM where nothing at all ever happens except pushing back and forth. And that WvW players are just toxic as shit and I honestly grew tired of constantly being insulted by 35 year old manchildren with fragile egos.
I am sure similar ideas have already have been brought up by many players, but ANet could just make a smaller WVW map that acts like sPVP matches; just big enough for 15 players or 5 players from each faction to queue. Mounts and squad creation disabled; objectives given for each instances, could be an escort mission, small scale siege like tower, ruin / camp capture, localize native strongholds, etc. But nothing has been done for past 12 years to enhance the game mode significantly, except EOTM and the desert borderland update.
Covid gaming was the prime time revitalization of WvW mainly because you could game with friends. After Covid ended everyone got busy in real life. Nobody has the time to invest 2-3 hours to log in and walk around for good fights. It went from roaming, to queueing a few pvp matches to just not playing at all. I haven't logged in, in over a year now.
I've seen some people talk about the issue of gift of battle and I honestly think it's a huge issue. The PvE players that come to WvW to get a gift of battle do not want to be there to begin with, they are there for the reward and nothing else and view the need of fighting other players to be unenjoyable. I think it's definitely valuable to have people coming in for items to promote the population of the mode but maybe something like a slight reward restructuring could help the situation. Take gift of battle out of the pvp pool and place it somewhere else and find newer things to place into the mode in hopes of inspiring interest instead of creating a chore item that players view as something they "have to go get" instead of "want to go get".
Small scale it's actually decent content, you can kills really large group if they are not well organize, and I feel is where is content is now. All my favorite moment in that game mode was in that that kind of situation, I will personally never forget the 10v40 I did with that Marcus that I had met two days earlier, ended with the blue team chasing us on the red base camp. When I come back to the tower where we got that fight it's like a special place for me, and I think I am not alone to have memory like that one. Where in big scale fight, you have 4 support for 1 dps in your sub, that create infinite fight where damage is so low the only pp you kill is the lost guy don't lessening the tag. And that only if you have another squad that can fight you, because no one gonna start fighting you otherwise. But I think that a personal opinion, because that can surprise but most of pp playing this game is really slow at the point where is not rare to see someone doing noting for 10s in a WvW zerg. And I don't that they do nothing, I think for them it's a intense fight where there are pressure. Mb just create small guild of roamer like a tiny alliance? Roam this days as you say it's just go base camp, cap it and stay here killing some nooby in 1v1 or 1v2 until you got 4-5 pp on you and leave or die. You have very small amount of roamer today, so it's really rare to struggle to kill someone and having some interesting fight. I started roaming after waited more that 1h in the PvP queue. And the main difference with PvP is the fact you NEED to play high mobility build or you enemy just run away, and you can't disengage if you are in a losing 1vs4 fight. The enemy just don't care about the fact you have the camp, and just come later with all is family. Also, i know it's a WvW video, but the PvP state it's actually really bad. The ranking system is really poorly made and in top of that you have a lot of botting, DDOS, match manipulation ext. That really make the leader-board pointless, and make the PvP a game mode you can play only at 5 playing in tournament or un-ranked. And if you tell yourself, you gonna play un-ranked because you can't play ranked, you gonna have all the potatoes of the game and the need to buy a new keyboard.
Imo the problem is that people have been used to doing a certain thing to get a certain reward. Instead of doing a certain thing because it's fun to do it. And it's a concept that has now spread to ALL games (there are dailies or weekly mission in every single game). If I roam I don't do it to get loot but I do it for any other type of reason: fun, testing the build, because I like the unpredictability of the encounters.... Unless there is a superior mechanic that grants certain advantages for a victory, pvp should be done for the sake of pvp. Once upon a time when there were servers you had the server pride or the fact of climbing the ladder ranking: you did what you liked for a “higher purpose.” Just like a lot of other things have been lost with the various expansions: scouting, guilds dedicated to defense. The gameplay that today constitutes the bulk of WvW seems very similar to the gemeplay you see in open world pve: follow the tag, unload everything you have on a target and it doesn't matter if you don't dodge there is enuf sustain to bypasses any damage and/or AoE.
I'm personally interested in organizing a bracket based tournaments for GW2. I'd be willing to throw in real money into the prize pools (money, gift cards, steam games, gems, etc.). I'm not sure when I'd get around to even thinking about trying to set anything up cause school is in the way right now, but it's been on my mind for a while now. I'm not a hardcore GW2 player but its the only game I know I can fall back on and love it to death. So I'd love to do some sort of "esports" scene for it. I have the standard ideas anyone can think of like raid best/fastest clear tourny, pvp obviously, wvw zerg stuff, wvw roaming. For roaming there's a few different ways to do it but of course theres other factors in play all the time. Example: If we put 2 people in a bracket head to head for who can get the most kills (on randoms) in 3 minutes... player population in that server, having people in the same server or guild if alliances beta is going on (I haven't played in a while). Few different ways to do it imo. Long post oops. It's 4am but wanted to leave this here in case you or anyone else was interested in discussing more in coming weeks. Maybe I'd set something up for the holidays?? Throw down $100 prize pool, see how many people join. Maybe get some volunteer casters in. If there's known names possible seedings. Idk. I'd be interested to watch another MRGA series if you do it though!
I forgot mention but there is huge skill gap issue impacting pvp/wvw. Roaming seems like you do not do much but if you have group chasing you around the map then those are players you are taking out fight. Putting camp buffs on camps Zergs may need take supply is huge. Couple friends can hit other objectives when Zergs are having a stand off. For me personally I learned lot more roaming.
What about a Dueling Feature. Where only in Edge of the Mist Map (aka The Dueling Grounds) it can work. The player can ask someone for a duel and once accepted you both become immune to the opposing sides. There will be a distance cap for the dueling ring and if you leave it you auto loose. Also if you disengage to where your Health starts to auto regenerate you instant loose. The rewards for loosing is set by the players and you can choose from nothing loss to up to 100 gold or even an item of your choosing. The gold or item comes directly from your own account. Obviously only specific item can be chosen. If the person has zero rewards chosen the winner will get double drops from their corps (diminishing overtime to disincentives friend farming lol). Dueling can also be party based and Gold is the only reward. If an outnumber dual is initiated the bigger group loose double the Gold. Dueling can also work against in game objectives and if won you get double rewards (diminishing over time). 1 person can request to dual up to 2 persons only and visa versa. Remember dueling is optional and you can still be run over lol. Alliances can also benefit from this but i am to tired of typing to go into it. I forgot Anet needs to make money. So you can buy an item from the Cash shop Call Dueling Revival Orb. It will auto revive you at the duel location once you click it. O and make it a account wide item.
I’m new to wvw. I played when the wvw rush even was around, I loved it cause there was activity but after that ended it just…the spark left so to say, I tried roaming cause I was told it’s fun but this video sums up the experience, especially since I’m new so I was easily stomped. I zerged which is fine but then Zerg was hard to find cause of my work schedule and people not being on as much so…I just do pve now 😢
For me its mounts and cele that really ruined WvW roaming that ruined both solo roaming. The introduction of warclaw in WvW just quickly makes small scale fights by a few roamers turn into a 1 sided zerging. Cele, sure it gives and edge for taking on outnumbered fights but practically every roamer runs this now so whatever fight with roamers you run into just is boring. Thieves are most played now since that also gives an edge in outnumbered fights, and lets be honest fighting a thief is never fun because of the insane mobility skills and warclaw. I do think restructure made small scale group fights a bit better. I am starting to enjoy like 10 man groups again but for solo roaming its still the same. What they need is to balance the stats and classes better in WvW and introduce some sort of map meant for roamers.
I need Anet to just look at all the classes unused utility skills and just make them fun and usable, on engi half of the shit is just sitting there unused in any build for years!
Yes, Alliances = less solo roamers and more small groups as friends can more easly play together, overall the population in WvW has grown and I've had a lot of success and fun duo roaming (ele + thief). The current balance after the cele nerf is very healthy imo. Yes some builds are busted, but there always were and always will be stuff like that and its normal, nowdays any class actually has the tools to deal with most situations so it makes for a more interesting and balanced experience. Aside from willy and deadeye, balance is better then ever. I think rewards and rivalry are the main things that are missing from roaming, you dont have time to form bonds with your enemies or even friends bcz the new matchup drops and all the teams beside your guild are different. I would like to see guilds being able to declare war to one another, with a kill count or some kind of War score showing what guild is winning. This combined with a very big increase in rewards per objective capture, based on the number of players involved (less players bigger reward), + adding a reason for players to actually want their team to win, will make WvW a more competitive and organic environment, in which roaming will play an important part, and all play styles will feel meaningful in one way or another. This is just my 2 cents on the matter, I've been a roamer for 6 years now and Im still enjoying it quite a lot, so I wish Anet gives it the attention it deserves.
I feel like people dont respect 1v1. I had so many situations where I started a fight, then 10 second later 3 random dude lurking from far away ganked me right after I dropped bellow 50% health. And that just kills it for me.
From a warr main pov: it all started in feb 2020, then EoD made it worse giving even more mobility creep to the game, and now every class can just perma chase you to death, this game used to have tradeoffs, now everyone can do everything, i guess it's too late for GW2 to deal with this, but i hope it's not for GW3, if ever launches. Edit: almost forgot to mention, they just buffed the blobs and keeps nerfing ways to deal with it, i remember when a havoc of 15 was able to deal with a 50 zerg, with a good coordination and communication, now it's just impossible, the enemy zerg has to be really REALLY bad, to lose, + the fact that there's NO more motivation to keep playing while you're outnumbered, they nerfed the rewards and now it's even HARDER to fight against bigger numbers.
How about this. When you dont have any www guild active, the game gives you 3 option. 1. Do you like/prefer www roaming 2. Do you like/pref. Big fights with more siegeplay 3. Im new to www genre and want to learn. With this the devs can adjust players to right server, where players get more rewarded experience
I just wish you could get participation in any way for engaging in combat with other players. I hate when I down someone and then more people come and res them and I'm just dead for nothing at all. It feels uninviting looking for player combat when you can have your time wasted completely and lose on rewards.
I'm a roamer on and off since 2012, and I 1000% agree Warclaw is a blessing and a curse, it's convenience at a button BUT it gives zergs unprecedented reliable mobility. It used to be that the zerg couldn't even run at the speed of swiftness without dragging out its tail across the map, and now it's way to easy for zerg balls to attack or respond at the speed of mounts. Ideally I think the solution is new WvW maps that are designed around mount speed, but the community received desert so poorly (and I love desert) that I don't think it's ever in the cards. I think warclaw is a bigger contributor to the "boonball" meta than actual boons and I'll stand by that. If it wasn't for warclaw it would be too slow to actually stack up the ball in a place that mattered.
im a new player to roaming and im not enjoing my time much mainly gor to reasons 1. it take way to long to find fights wher ur not geting zerged 2. is cus thers clases like willbender that are just busted but in my opinion it can still be fun i can enjoy that very much somtimes and i do think the mrga can still do good for this game for me that will add mor things to be exited about and get the motivation to a actually play this agien
this world reconstruct made it even worse, also that weapon mastery is a mistake spec used to have their unique playstyle with a locked weapon to spec but they decided to throw that away,, Also that wb is okey, its balanced is a wrong take just putting it lightly setting this aside as suggestion Bring The orb of power back and make the whole event where u cant use Mount in a a radius circle the size of an entire camp, and nerf mobility and defensive boons duration by Half and u will see Load of ppls trying that with some rewards on the line Edit : make blobs more vulnerable suggestion Rework the change on Scourge so it wont be forced played support same goes for mesmer gut those defensive boons and make it to what it was as boon rip class, nerf Druids and Vindis so they wont be an options for support anymore on large scale, bring back the meta from 2018 and below to 2020, But they would never do that
Roaming has declined since alliences. i mainly solo or duo roam on builds that are not Meta. a few things that are making roaming anoying: - whenever a zerg sees you they whill chase you 8 out of 10 times to kill you - people don't want to 1v1 unless they ether have their healer of their buddy to outnumber you - there is a lot of builds that are just against roamers in General (Willbender who 1 shots even tanky builds). Thieves with perma stealth are also an issue since not every class has a reveal. (a change to reveal would make it better) - Some guild can camp roamers in with 10 people denying your participation until you swap maps or stop wvw there are things that anet can to to revive roaming but i think they don't balance against roaming note: english writing is not my first language
I love roaming in WvW for a number of reasons. I get lag in large Zerg fights is a problem. Although Zerg farming is so rewarding 😮 As I play with ping of over 300 plus having mobility issues does not help my roaming and encourages me to group up.
One thing I think they should do is nerf zergs. They could add a debuff that increases dmg (or decreases healing) you take when there's too many players near you. For example, for every player after 3 in a 300 radius you take 10% increased dmg. So if you have those 50 ppl zergs, every player would have 460% increased dmg. That would force players to spread out a little reducing boon effectiveness. Another option would be something like social awkwardness from fractals. (This would be pretty funny) Either of these would probably break the boon balls and would be harder for healers to carry ppl.
i mean with every character they have vomiting's every boons there is on the game, Plus the consta nerf on Boons corrupts they did on necro and mesmers, and the siege change and defending objectives plus some classes balance that are getting away with the most ridiculous stats like power willbenders, and carapace perma protection on harbs, etc no wonder more ppls clog in grps to fights, if there is even a small grp of 10 with some extra supports u wont put a dent on them if ur fighting outnumbered not even siege is relevant to do anything LOL if they are attempting to open an objective just an Edit : I used to remember roles in zergs were a bit controled and defined in the past like support scrappers, FB, tempests etc But these last 2y when they started adding more support classes to the mix thats when it start to get out of hands, some role classes lost their identity such as power scourges and old Boon rip mesmers, and now every class can support which made blob even more tanky and un unkillable support mesmer - support fb - support scrapper - support vindi - support Tempest - support druid - support scourge and list goes on its Just fucking HORRIBLE
I am a solo roamer. I dont see enough solo roamers. I think we need map changes and reward changes - in other words, rewards for doing things alone and better rewards for roaming. The map should definitely have ways to incentivize people to go alone to get achievements
finally someone talkin about the wvw issue for roamers. yeah honestly roming is basicaly dead its so rare you can get that old roaming moment, you dont even see duels much either and if there is one then a zerg will nuke who is on the wrong team. especially for thief with how the balance is rn its basically insta death when you run into a lot of classes (assumiung that you arent playing perma stealth condi thief or any other variant of perma stealth) granted they kinda made thieves need stealth to even survive most fights. cele was a problem but i dont think the cele "nerf" is actually gonna kill it at all. wvw worlds going away kinda made the matchups scuffed as hell. it feels super punishing to be a roamer though especially since there are a bunch of mini zergs either hard defending random locations orjust romaing around the whole map hunting for smaller groups. tho the idea of a roamer type of map would be super cool but dont know how that would work in action. the rant for wvw and thief could go on forever for me but i really hope anet does somethin to help the actual issues of wvw and balance. saw a guy on the forums complaining that he lost a 1v5 as a willbender. if the meta is so bad that people on certain classes or builds are mad they cant win a 1v5 easily then we are cooked
I think the way to go should be to nerf the boon balls and cap the time a player can be cc'ed. This way small-scale groups will have a chance to fight bigger groups if the skill and proper builds are in place. This could be a nice way-out for roamers to have a content that's interesting but still not carried by blob numbers. I also face the same issue with the maps. Either are empty or full of Zergs (during prime time) and then the only map with content is EBG. I would expect Anet to solve the queues issue during prime time by introducing one more (maybe smaller map) EBG in parallel and at some point to start developing more new maps to refresh the game and gamers' interest. If they do that I would love to see new modern competitive objectives! Nevertheless, thanks for bringing this issue out for discussion
Hello Noody! Do you still play with 200+ ping nowadays? I just saw your ping video and its great how you play competitively on thief pvp. Curious and interested to know if I should make one now thank you 😊
@@Noody awesome thank you for the quick response! Subscribed! 🙂i just used Exitlag and got my ping down to 170. Definitely gonna create one and follow your vids as we relate in ping 😂
10:53 the best part😂, literally if you don't give them all the advantages, roaming inside of their territory and giving them the Xv1, they will not fight and you will die of boredom... People are running away of 1v1 (and dying runing) bro 🙃, there is the problem in my opinion, you need to choose: being ganked or no content 😢
At a core design level, Healers weren't designed to be tanks If a single support can carry 2vX, their efficiency multiplies when there's 10 of them able to heal people even out of their sub group Sadly I do think it's too late for them to change things. Players are too acclimated of supports being required. Players get told from the very beginning "find a tag and follow them", which conditions them to think there is no content if there is no tag. The best we can hope for is better systems for players to be able to get content when there isn't a commander tag involved They aren't incentivized to design or code systems for such a small portion of the player base, Even if it would improve the game mode.
I think a new mrga would only be a good thing for roaming even if it was the smallest one yet. But like you've noticed I think the rules or objectives have to be entirely or partially different somehow. Roaming has changed, and people can't feel like they only do mrga to win otherwise they won't join properly. I don't have that answer, only the observation, but if you can figure that out it could be huge
Id like to get into solo roaming but im cheeeeks with proper roam builds; and its hard to find a zerg sometimes so i often give up on wvw unless i need to get gifts for leggies :< Either way another W vid Noody!
100% agree with ya. There's no real reason to roam. Personally I main +1 roles in spvp and its a natural progression to do the same some sort of style in wvw, so itd be great to have some content that pushes for both zergs and roaming to coexist.
Participation just needs a rework. It's not worth the effort for a newbie to try and learn solo or small-scale roaming if they're just gonna get farmed for 2 hours (Its me, I'm newbies). Even bad Zergs still generate participation and bags when you're losing. Getting farmed while trying to get good at roaming just doesn't
im at point where i just quit and let the zergs do what zergs do. roaming was rewarding in wining outnumbered fights and combat being visible with no skill lag. now i get on, chased down but zerg and jumped on and told roamer are part the problem. course roamers are salty if people just run you over 3 power crept classes and start bming. p.s i do not really enjoy grouping up small scale isn't for me
all your points fall flat for most non interested in wvw but doing it only cause they need GoBs. if those same ppl want to "roam" they just enter pvp so they are sure they are not ganked by zergs and don need to think about gear stats (u are right about u have more custom builds but again most ppl don have leg stuff to switch stat on the fly). Also coming from fighing games pvpers want balance but with more balance comes less "class identity" tbh i like the fact that anyone can do almost anything. I don understand the "it s a pvp gamemode so grow some balls and come fight don run" it s easy for u cause u are good but who the fk want to fight on the other side of the map knowing they are about to die (on eu serv sometimes the roamer doesn finish u so u can go on with ur life and after rally maybe ask for a rematch). As u seen from the intel u gathered most roamers don think even the same stuff, if u try to change something some will agree with changes other wont... dunno in NA servers but in EU i find some spots in maps wher ppl gather to have small fights they don atk solo players and zergs with competent coms leave them alone, some1 talked about toxicity but imho wvw is the least toxic "pvp" gamemode i have ever experienced in any mmo, if som1 experience toxicity is probably their fault and that s also why the "roamer" population is shrinking (pvp on the other hand is toxic as hell and this s exactly why they are shrinking too).... ther are other things but i stop here cause it s already textwall
heal minstrel roamers and perma stealth + omega aoe nuke builds like willbender + tempest aura share perma lockdown build, either with immob or stuns. In short, they make it so the enemy cant interact with the game at all. Be it blind, immob, schoking aura etc. If they can remove all these balance issues, people would have much better experience fighting and they would naturally feel more comfortable going out alone.
Not really sure why they dont nerf willbender. Everyone knows its the outlier and harmful and its been left alone for so long letting the gamemode rot away. Similar kind of thing for tempest who spam auras and debilitating conditions and run at you head first with minstrel or tank builds that punishes you for hitting them which is just aids mechanic and actively makes the gameplay unenjoyable. Top that with downstate mist form that allows you to run back in downstate and go through gate making the build 0risk. Deadeye needs just some condi duration shaves, power coeff lowered and cds increase in wvw, similar thing for catalyst signet boon durations and ranger heal coeff's. Its very easy to fix balance if you are not biased.
I think the issue with WvW is content creators like you. You got celestial nerfed when the only issue was the players playing power needed to l2p instead of crying. Furthermore, you being toxic and ganking new players with your guild do not help either.

Do you get any dsync while fighting them? Most of the time, I am one shot before the thief/willy even appear on me.
Anet sux in balancing. They put so many mobility in these classes its not fun to fight against these running builds at all.
My biggest issue is the low population of players who want to fight.
Tbh that's just an end product of whatever reason they avoid roaming for
I started playing a week ago after a 5 year break.
Kappa
If that is the experience lots of new players have, it's no wonder new people don't want to play WvW.
They say they are roaming but in reality they wanna zerg you down the same 😂😂. Its ok they know theyll lose 1v1 or they never wouldve had a support
Most of those "roaming guilds" will run comp group just to 5v1/2 people, but as soon as its even close to similar numbers, they start running away. 1v1 you just kill them ezpz. The thing you can do is simply move away from them and starve them for their content.

They actively avoided the other roamers who gave them a fair/hard fight.(obviously not you and other YTubers)
It really doesn't take much skill to kill a zerg build with a roaming build, I know because I'm DOGGO at sPVP yet I could go in with my meta roaming cele build and dunk like a pro on those zerg kids.
The optimistic zergling killers get a nice surprise l
yeah zerg builds usually have 0 sustain in the kit/skills (except for vindi) you literally instadie to roaming builds

If you're going to whinge because you've driven other roamers to stay within safety in numbers, just go to spvp and hang out with your other elitist friends.
the elitist are the most whiner of this game
What happened is alliances. You just start to get used to a group of people and then a month later it changes.
What went wrong is perma Stealth thieves annoying you 24/7. That and Cele,, which was luckily nerfed.
As a thief main, I agree. Shadow arts needs to be nerfed, Anets rework of the shadow arts traitline made it arguably stronger. As I mentioned though, in the Zerg fest that is WvW, people resort to playing such builds to survive and OOC when needed.
@@Noodyhi mate you main thief ? Can you please share me a good deadeye build thanks
cele nerf changed nothing, as expected.
I hate boon balls so much, the fights and lag are boring and bad.
I don't know the solution, but the problems are boons

People would abuse the fuck out of that
tfw WR doesn't even solve the population problem lol.
Getting back into Roaming has been extremely challenging due to the following reasons (for me personally)
- Everyone can just escape on their mounts
- If I come across a roaming thief I'm basically dead and struggle to learn how to outplay them on any other class (Thief seems to counter thief but I struggle to find other classes)
- As you said more people are interested in Zerging for the rewards (I am guilty of this most nights when I'm too exhausted to concentrate)
I Think I'm going to be picking up a new class soon and learn it in both PvP & WvW to learn it in a different environment other than PvE, Ranger is the class I've not really touched since base game so maybe I'll throw some hours in and learn from hundreds of hours of mistakes, But I won't lie it's still daunting and terrifying when there are so many Zergs or Thieves out there..
I did use to love roaming, I either need a coach or a shed ton of videos to learn as information never really sticks these days (due to exhaustion aha)
Keep up the great videos! always eager to see more.
@@blackdunes6087 not when they can just zerg it all back and constantly kill any smaller group.
imo what really kills roaming is the fact that everything can do anything like you said, theres no variety within specs anymore its just whatever is more broken at the time around, like virtuso spear i could bet that before you never seen many of them, now you go to wvw and there's lots of them, people don't play for fun anymore and for skill but rather for what is more broken, additionally its just beats the whole point of mechanics ingame, the fact that virtuso can basically ignore all game mechanics due to so many ways it can get invulnerability is absolutely busted, as someone who only plays glasscannon builds i have to perfectly dodge every single attack only to get blasted by singular f1 for me to get one shot like ?
This has been my exact opinion for months now. Restructuring made WvW worse.
@itschiharu I do it everytime I get on solo. And no they dont care if they run across the entire map to kill me they are gunna 40v1 and tbag
One big game improvement in WvW would be STOP hackers 😮😮😮
I think the biggest fix would be making it possible for Roamers to do something to larger groups again but all builds are too mobile for hit and runs
i got the solution for your Problems ! have you heard of SPVP !?
@@crymeariver94 the breeding grounds for toxicity? I used to main spvp and swapped to wvw FOR the nicer community :(
@@itssobalanced if you cant handle the heat get out of the kitchen or use " block " which is implemented for that reason , pvp will always be toxic in any game
No body plays the mode for "nice community" it;s a mode to dominate others ,showing off your rank , flexing your skill ,where egos clash
The biggest problem is not boons but the restructuring. Now I can't ever connect with the people that I encounter except as fleeting friends :(
Also if we're ranting today projectile denial in boon blobs is out of control.
I'm trying to get better at solo roaming but I can't find anyone on the borderlands, so I get farmed on EBG haha
This is real 🤣
Hang in there, it'll get better one day lol
The devs responsible for WvW now only care about BOONBALL. periodt. everything else that doesn't fit in that is outcasted.
Once upon a time when there were servers you had the server pride or the fact of climbing the ladder ranking: you did what you liked for a “higher purpose.”
Just like a lot of other things have been lost with the various expansions: scouting, guilds dedicated to defense.
I need Anet to just look at all the classes unused utility skills and just make them fun and usable, on engi half of the shit is just sitting there unused in any build for years!
true, same goes for necro or thief or warrior XD etc
The days of 15v50 were truly a special time I’ll hold dear to me forever 😢
How about this. When you dont have any www guild active, the game gives you 3 option. 1. Do you like/prefer www roaming 2. Do you like/pref. Big fights with more siegeplay 3. Im new to www genre and want to learn. With this the devs can adjust players to right server, where players get more rewarded experience
I just wish you could get participation in any way for engaging in combat with other players. I hate when I down someone and then more people come and res them and I'm just dead for nothing at all. It feels uninviting looking for player combat when you can have your time wasted completely and lose on rewards.
@@maige01 combat rez zerg bullshit 😆. Get fucked for trying to play our game you bought noob. -Anet
If it wasn't for warclaw it would be too slow to actually stack up the ball in a place that mattered.
what is the build you using at 5:20 with the warrior. Hammer/greatsword.
it's called Deadeye and Willbender. Not balanced at all.
im a new player to roaming and im not enjoing my time much mainly gor to reasons 1. it take way to long to find fights wher ur not geting zerged 2. is cus thers clases like willbender that are just busted
but in my opinion it can still be fun i can enjoy that very much somtimes and i do think the mrga can still do good for this game for me that will add mor things to be exited about and get the motivation to a actually play this agien
this world reconstruct made it even worse, also that weapon mastery is a mistake spec used to have their unique playstyle with a locked weapon to spec but they decided to throw that away,, Also that wb is okey, its balanced is a wrong take just putting it lightly
setting this aside as suggestion Bring The orb of power back and make the whole event where u cant use Mount in a a radius circle the size of an entire camp, and nerf mobility and defensive boons duration by Half and u will see Load of ppls trying that with some rewards on the line
Edit : make blobs more vulnerable suggestion Rework the change on Scourge so it wont be forced played support same goes for mesmer gut those defensive boons and make it to what it was as boon rip class, nerf Druids and Vindis so they wont be an options for support anymore on large scale, bring back the meta from 2018 and below to 2020, But they would never do that
Roaming has declined since alliences.
i mainly solo or duo roam on builds that are not Meta.
a few things that are making roaming anoying:
- whenever a zerg sees you they whill chase you 8 out of 10 times to kill you
- people don't want to 1v1 unless they ether have their healer of their buddy to outnumber you
- there is a lot of builds that are just against roamers in General (Willbender who 1 shots even tanky builds). Thieves with perma stealth are also an issue since not every class has a reveal. (a change to reveal would make it better)
- Some guild can camp roamers in with 10 people denying your participation until you swap maps or stop wvw
there are things that anet can to to revive roaming but i think they don't balance against roaming
note: english writing is not my first language
(This would be pretty funny)
Either of these would probably break the boon balls and would be harder for healers to carry ppl.
i mean with every character they have vomiting's every boons there is on the game, Plus the consta nerf on Boons corrupts they did on necro and mesmers, and the siege change and defending objectives plus some classes balance that are getting away with the most ridiculous stats like power willbenders, and carapace perma protection on harbs, etc no wonder more ppls clog in grps to fights, if there is even a small grp of 10 with some extra supports u wont put a dent on them if ur fighting outnumbered not even siege is relevant to do anything LOL if they are attempting to open an objective
just an Edit : I used to remember roles in zergs were a bit controled and defined in the past like support scrappers, FB, tempests etc But these last 2y when they started adding more support classes to the mix thats when it start to get out of hands, some role classes lost their identity such as power scourges and old Boon rip mesmers, and now every class can support which made blob even more tanky and un unkillable
support mesmer - support fb - support scrapper - support vindi - support Tempest - support druid - support scourge and list goes on its Just fucking HORRIBLE
I agree with this video, especially the comments from that dude named Sylver.
he's a very cool dude
Hello Noody! Do you still play with 200+ ping nowadays? I just saw your ping video and its great how you play competitively on thief pvp.
Curious and interested to know if I should make one now thank you 😊
@@Sushiritsu yep still on 200+
I use exitlag now which can be found in the description and that helps lower it though 🙂
At a core design level, Healers weren't designed to be tanks
If a single support can carry 2vX, their efficiency multiplies when there's 10 of them able to heal people even out of their sub group
Sadly I do think it's too late for them to change things. Players are too acclimated of supports being required.
Players get told from the very beginning "find a tag and follow them", which conditions them to think there is no content if there is no tag.
The best we can hope for is better systems for players to be able to get content when there isn't a commander tag involved
They aren't incentivized to design or code systems for such a small portion of the player base, Even if it would improve the game mode.
