Great information. Beardies are cool but also remember they live a long time and that means you are responsible for them for a long time. Too many of them are up for adoption everyday.
Very true! well said Rick
you are absolutely right, when you adopt a pet, it becomes a member of your family and you have the duty to give the best possible care forever
The life span is part of the reason I love them
I’m so happy to know I’ll have a long lasting friendship
Up to 15 years, cats can get older.
Now a tortoise,that lives for a long time. :)
Your right I see it all the time and it's sad. Most people are selling or giving away the enclosure and lizard for free. Wish I could save a bunch but like you say it's alot or responsibility
Bearded dragons are definitely one of those animals that I didn’t want in the beginning because everyone had them. And then eventually I got one and I understand why everybody has them. I love that little guy.
I love my guy too!
hahah i was exactly the same
I dont get the “everyone has a beardie” trope when they are still nowhere near as common as cats and dogs. A beardie will always be exotic and cool because its a reptile.
In my next life, I want to come back as a bearded dragon. No taxes. No mortgage. Just sitting in the sun, chillin.
sign me up!
Jschlatt??
@beardyvrits a joke
Maybe not the part where too many people neglect their beardie lol
@@ocdmodernwarfare2049 probably a wild one, but it would be fun to have a human to bond with as a beardie
Lol not me being the knowledgeable lady at Petsmart who literally writes your RUclips channel name down in their sales sheet 😂😂😂😂😂
I mean I recommend your RUclips channel to all of my customers for reptiles 😅
ohhhh you are too kind!
@@WickensWickedReptiles I literally love your channel. I watch the videos that are relevant to my reptiles which is a red foot tortoise, bearded dragon, Sand dwarf geckos and leopard geckos, but I also love watching the videos of the animals I don’t have that way I can better inform my customers. I really love recommending your channel because you’re dealing with the same environment we are, I’m in Ontario too
Late to this but that is fantastic! Too many pet shop employees give out harmful, potentially deadly advice.
yes! the guides are so frustratingly outdated!
I’m watching this because I am a teacher, and I got a bearded dragon for my classroom through a grant for teachers. Unfortunately, I got him at PetSmart before I knew how they got their animals, but I am trying to give him the best possible care. He’s a cute little guy, and I’m keeping him at home for now because I read that the juveniles can get stressed in a louder environment like a classroom.
Hey no worries
It’s 2024 for me.. I’m supposed to be rescuing my first bearded dragon tomorrow Saturday the 1st!!! Wish me luck
How is it?
You picked a good channel! Adam (WWR) really knows his stuff! It's obvious that he is passionate about his animals and loves what he does.
How is it going so far??
@@amandadavidson5819 so far so good! He’s super picky about bugs. And he refuses to eat them out of his ceramic bowl I bought so that’s been tricky but he’s such a cool little guy! Definitely the best reptile I’ve ever owned
Had my Beardie 12 years and he’s still going strong. I live where they occur naturally so he lives in his enclosure outside. No heating devices or lights. Gets afternoon Sun. Hibernates all winter so only eats 8 months of the year. Caterpillar or snails as protein (from the garden) and flowers/veggies for plant matter. In summer temp gets to 40c/104F so I put him in a bucket in the shade. In winter the temp gets down to as low as 1c/34F. He stays in his enclosure and sleeps for months. I see temperature ranges recommended for these animals that are not at all what they are exposed to in the wild. BUT I would not recommend my way over what Wicken’s is saying. It’s just interesting.
Can you make a video of the enclosure.. I also live in a desert with a bearded dragon and would appreciate the advice
@@Godistriun3 just has red sand, some climbing logs, a hiding hole to escape the sun if required. Only gets Sun in the very early morning and late afternoon. Water bow for drinking and a food bowl. It’s a reptile enclosure so has plenty of ventilation. On days where the temperature reaches 35*C+ I put the dragon in a ventilated bucket in the house so he doesn’t get too hot.
my baby bearded dragon hasn’t eaten in a few days
I've wanted a bearded dragon FOREVER. Yesterday, my friend gave me her rescue. She has two. One is a little on the -do, not touch me side & the one she gave me, which is a three-legged sweet, sweet girl. She is awesome! I'm worried that I'm not going to give her what she needs to thrive but the basics are covered. She's got night and day lamps, her main heat lamp, both stumps she loves to climb and rest on & her cool side with another climb area, plants, food & water. She loves to be held. Learning as I go. & these videos are going to be a big help! ❤ ❤ ty
You shouldn’t use night lights
Great video! We tried rehabbing a beardie about a month ago. He was 8 years old and was in a 20 gallon tank. He lived off of pellets. Unfortunately he was severely dehydrated and ended up with an impaction and aspirated two days after a small bath. Since then we got another beardie as a surrender and he's thriving! I do encourage people to search for those who want to surrender because they're out there. I had five people willing to just give theirs away because they couldn't handle the responsibilities. My son now wants to make it a job to help rehab beardie and get them to health.
I love bearded dragons. They have the cheekiest little faces 🥰 and such sweet personalities. I'm in the process of adopting one and I can't wait to give him all the love, bugs and hugs he deserves ❤
I’m adopting a rescue beardie Thursday & I’m sooo excited!! I’m doing a lot of research on them..thanks for the great videos!
I’m rescuing a tripod and picking him up tomorrow! I’m nervous since he’s my first reptile but I’m so excited!
My beardie, Frankie, is my favorite reptile. I am going to name my reptile education business after her and eventually will use my reptiles in my speech language pathology therapy sessions. That way I can combine my obsession with my passion.
I very much appreciate your videos, thank you!
❤
I have a beardie called Arthur. He is so so chill and gives me such amazing relaxed vibes when he snuggles into my neck that i need to be careful i don't fall asleep with him on my chest (i have 3 cats and a dog too) 🦎💚
adorable
do your cats get a long with him?
Rescuing a beardie from Craigslist! So excited thanks for the info.
Watched all of your videos in preparation for my beardie, and just picked up my red monster today! Thank you!
I love my Nina, it was a gift for my son but once she got big he was no longer interested in her. But I learn to take care of her and know her habits, she is my favorite pet.
Beardies are such lovely animals! It's great how they respond and interact with us humans. Before getting a bearded dragon it is important to know, that they do brumate (winter rest) and what you have to do to give them the right condtions for brumation. It is important for their healthiness. First time my beardie brumated, I was so scared - although I knew they would do so. I checked on her every day and night to see, if she was still alive 😅 But it's okay and no big deal once you know, what to do.
I love my beardie sooo much I have someone looking after him for 2 days while I’m away and I carted at leaving him 😂
So I just got a baby bearded dragon. I live in Tennessee it's cold here right now. So when will he brumate? I'm learning as I go
@@michaelraines3465 hi, I don't know at what age they start brumation. I always get grown-up rescued animals. But I always let them decide, when they want to go into brumation. They live free in our room, so I clearly get the signs when they get less active and eat less and lesser. It is important that their intestine are empty when they brumate. If Beardies live in a terrarium, you shorten the illumination time of their UV/lights week by week. There are many websites in the internet to look at the details. I always look at several pages, because some information can differ from website to website. I hope everything was coherent, because english is not my first language 😅 Sending hugs into the US 😊
My daughter and I have four beardies between us. Two are missing the ends of their tails, a foot and some toes. The other two have varying degrees of MBD. She owns three and I have one. They are all amazing characters! We spoil them rotten after their rough start in life. If you can, adopt a rescue. Our local reptile store got these and we took them in. Just wanted folks to know even if one is missing a foot or is stunted, they still are full of personality.
The more you talk about bearded dragons the more I want one, I seen one on ig that was a fiery red color, it was stunning. Great vlog today
Hey Adam, I just wanted to say that today I got my first bearded dragon and I'm so in love
I've even recommended your channel to a few people as well. I got mine from a breeder. Thanks so much for all your help! I truly love your channel! Plus you're hilarious too! Hello diamond from my bearded dragon Opal! Take care!!!!!
enjoy!
Today is my b-day and my GF just got me a German Giant. Never been more excited for a new member of the family!
That’s awesome! I wish I could just see a German giant in person
We're adopting one from my husband's boss since he can't take care of it anymore. It'll be our first reptile. I'm super excited.
That is awesome!
I’m also from Canada, southern Alberta. I’m interested in getting a beardie once I’m settled down. We had them briefly as kids before my mom rehome them. Looking back our Care was so wrong. I’m glad to learn the updated care for these critters.
for sure!
please do more videos on bearded dragons i really enjoy them and they have good information.
I love em too
Adam!!! The example photo you use for the citrus beardie is from a breeder I work with called "HereBDragons" in the US! They're a fantastic small business and it's so cool to see one of their dragons in your video!
glad your humidity recommendation was spot on. a year or two ago, i came across a video (some no name channel) with a dude basically screaming that if the humidity ever got above 35%, they would 100% get a respiratory infection and die. I knew it was BS at the time, but it's always good to have things you know to be accurate, get reaffirmed.
Just came across this channel, we were at our local reptile store recently and originally I wasn’t planning on getting a pet but however my heart fell in love with this bearded dragon, I named him Walter and I’ve had him for about a week. He’s a year old and it’s still trial and error but I’m doing as much research as I can because I want to give him the best and I’m so glad I came across your channel!
You are the best RUclipsr ever wicked wickens reptile have a awesome day have a absolute wonderful day goodjob wicked wickens reptile
You are the best
Thanks so much for this video! I love my bearded Billy so much that I'm constantly paranoid about him not being happy or getting sick! I have lots of confidence with caring for any animal but I'm always keeping an extra close eye on my reptiles
My hubby has a coworker who took in a beardie, but they didn't really know anything about them. When they took it in, it was in 20/40 gal tank as an adult. We try our best to offer them as much advice & resources (such as videos like this one) for information as possible. Hopefully, in the future their beardie can have a better life and they can learn the proper way to care for him 🧡
A 40 is fine. Lmao
@@MiniTrucklolexcept for the fact that its not fine. Its only fine if you are okay with ur beardie only surviving and not actually being happy or thriving.
@@MiniTrucklol I have a 50 for mine and he has more than enough room. 120 minimum is ridiculous.
@@thatcrazymick I never said a 50 was to small or anything. But my 100 gallon feel small so 🤷🏼 and there the same price. You’re just crying for no reason.
@@MiniTrucklolif they already have a 50 gallon or not the space for a 6ft tank it would still be fine
As someone who’s baby recently passed after living a long 16 years I really appreciate this tutorial especially since it’s been a while since I’ve had to start from scratch
I get my first bearded dragon this week!!! I've been doing my research but really THANK YOU for this video!! I can't WAIT to join Bitey Bois Club!!!
I’m finally getting enough money to the point where getting a beardie is now a realistic goal for me. I’ve watched this video so many times to prepare for one
Love Beardies, have one in my collection and she is awesome. Without a doubt one of the most personable reptiles you can keep
Yes!! I know people say reptiles can’t love/have feeling but my beardie is SO sweet and chill with a big personality. Just an all around neat pet.
We got a baby beardie 1 month ago it stopped eating and was always dark in color i got told a heap of things spent a lot of money on dimer thermostats and thermometers and different foods turns out it was stressed with my dogs he is real happy now back to his normal color and atw 5 dubai roaches yesterday he is happy being handled love the wee dude
Diamond's little hands are just the cutest, too
Thank you for your tips. Finally got my parents ok to get a bearded dragon. Saving up for the enclosure.
Glad I could help!
You are absolutely right never neverby from those terrible pet stores ever I did a rescue and that's how I fell in love. With them
Great video, I am about to take care of two in a house-sitting arrangement, so I wanted to do some research. Can't wait to hang out with them!
that's awesome
I wanted to stop by and say that you have been a massive influence in my final decision to get me and my young son our first reptile and we chose to adopt an Adult Female Bearded Dragon who was in need of a good home and I was happy to provide that. I wanted to say thank you and that I am subscribed and very much enjoy your content and ask that you continue. Looking forward to more reptile content and MANGA will be resting on my shoulder from here on out.
My beardie Ziggy is my bff. He literally got me through my divorce, his crazy antics kept me from a deep depression. They are the best pets!❤
I might be getting a bearded dragon Friday and I haven’t slept I’ve been watching so many videos and taking lots of notes about them
I have 5 bearded dragons and love each and everyone of their different personalities
I had a beardie that was found to have a sarcoma behind an eye. He died suddenly afterwards. I CRIED my eyes out. I loved that goofy little guy. I will eventually get another one. They are fun!
This is such a good care guide, but remember to do as much research as you can when getting any pet. Also, sometimes they can be picky when it comes to eating their salad. A great tip is to try dusting the salad with bee pollen. It is great for beardies and mine, at least, really loves it.
I’m sorry bee pollen? That’s new to me, where do you get yours from?😄
@@lindseydaniels6829 I got some off of Amazon, but you might be able to find it in some kind of Whole Foods place because some people eat it. I was super confused when I heard about it too, but my beardie seriously won’t touch his food without it.
My mom’s ex had a pet bearded dragon and I absolutely adored it, he was extremely friendly and social. I’ve been wanting my own for years but my mom keeps saying no, but now that I’m a lot older and more responsible she’s considering it.
I just got a rescue bearded dragon and man I really enjoy it.
More so than my Ball
I'm hopefully adopting a bearded dragon from a breeder soon! I'm so happy about this! Thank you so much for your video! I really appreciate it
This video is really helpful im in the process of getting one but i want to make sure i do it correctly
glad it helped!
I’m about to adopt a small little three year old guy from a friend, he just needs more attention. I cannot wait to take care of him ❤
Just got a hypo zero as my first pet, so im watching this to make sure I can take care of it perfectly
Ps. For those wondering, her name is Blaze
Thank you for this. I've almost owned my 1st bearded dragon for 2 weeks now and totally in love. She does amazingly well as the exotics shop had her as one of the cheaper dragons you can get. They sell the ones that are missing a toe or end of the tail cheaper. Gemma is missing the end of her tail, but also she is missing one of her back feet. Doesn't stop her climbing and running around the place.
I hate that pet stores are allowed to sell animals and this poor bearded dragon missing pieces is one of the reasons. Glad this animal has been blessed with an owner who cares enough to do research on proper care and husbandry and obviously loves them very much.
@@kerseykrewzoo it's a good small shop, and I'd rather that they did sell them then kill them for missing bits. He has amazing set ups, with each animal being given more space then they need. His dragons have all been well handled since birth and she lives her salad as much as her insects. He has chucked bits in for free, so when we got the bits to set up the tank he gave us food bowls and rocks free. Then when we got her he gave us a weeks supply of bugs free as well. He is knowledgable and was happy to answer any questions no matter how silly they seemed. At least we didn't get her from pets at home as they had no clue on what they needed.
@@lizlilliman3644 Ohhh okay. I thought you got her from one of the big chain pet stores. The smaller, privately owned shops are usually more knowledgeable and able to give you bundled deals and such. All my animals are rescues except for 2 ball pythons I'm waiting for good weather to ship them home. I take in unwanted and/or deformed animals that most people don't want because I believe they deserve a chance at a happy life, too. 😊
I’ve recently decided to foster one of these from a rescue near Toronto. So I knew I had to come watch your care videos lol!
We have friends who introduced us into reptiles per my daughters love of dinosaurs. They have a bearded dragon and she loved it. She knows to be gentle but really like it didn’t run away he just hung out and was highly food motivated 😂
I have a bearded dragon and it has to be my favorite reptile
I love mine
I'm getting my bearded dragon in July! It's my dream pet and I cannot wait!
this is so great to hear!
Bearded dragons are so great! It's so sad how many people don't take proper care of them
I really hope this video helps change that!
I know i hate the whole petsmart/petco care guides that say beardies can live in a 40 gallon
Thank you, very informative. We are mostly set up to get a bearded dragon for Christmas. My 10 year old has been wanting one for about a year
Hey! I’m tony Andrews daughter! I have a bearded dragon of my own, and your videos are helping me get better care!!
I've had two different beardies in my life and I absolutely love them
I would recommend a bearded dragon to anybody for a pet
I love bearded dragons ❤ I have one, and she is very cute and intelligent 😊 this little big personality is so amazing
I had a Savannah monitor loved it. And also I like 10 11 years old. Take care of it. Bread things to feed it
My son wants one, I was kind if against it, but because of your video I will consider getting him one now. 🤝🏽
Thank you for this info! Everything I was reading was making me so scared lol first time I’ve felt calm and confident about owing a beardie since we got our boy Jeff a week ago
Just got my 1st bearded dragon, love her! ❤️
Hi, you need to update your information regarding the humidity, in fact the cooler areas (including the retreats) shoud be 60% +.
im really thinking about getting one so it’s great to have videos of this before committing to an animal. i’ve always had cats, dogs, rabbits, ect. but never a reptile. i’ve been wanting a bearded dragon for years now, they’re just so darn cute!!
This has been very helpful to learn for when I get my bearded dragon
Great video, I have 2 bearded dragons. One red and one normal. I built custom PVC enclosures for them and they are in fact the best pet reptile.
i took in my first baby boy beardie you’re so so helpful!!!!! i’m studying zoology also i love the way you explain everything!!! my beardie Chester says hi!!!’
omggggg i’m a beardie mom
My partner really likes adult beardies, and I'm hoping to adopt a rescue someday. There's so many surrendered adults out there! But man, the size of the enclosure is such a huge hurdle at the moment.
I just got mine a few weeks ago so I'm still learning
Diamond is a legit cutie. I think they make excellent pets and are really dynamic animals.
Ha!!! I prefer not to mention it around. Cause I have to keep track of her but I want her to move around because sometimes i'm afraid she doesn' set an up exercise.
this video has been INCREDBLY helpful! ive been trying to decide weather to get a leopard gecko or a beardie and this video has definitely helped me with that choice :) thank you so much for making these videos you are by FAR my favorite youtuber
Great video I am going to buy a zero morph I am just learning and getting information first
That's awesome
I want a beardie, but I plan on doing a lot of reasearch for the next year or two and getting the supplies first before I get one. I want to make sure I know what I need to do to keep them healthy
absolutely!
My oldest daughter bought my younger kids a beardie, I was against it. Now I love the little bastard lol
Yep im adopting one from my sister's work friend her son grew up is in his 3rd year of college and forgot about his little buddy some years ago obviously i grew up have all sorts of reptiles pythons gecko's chameleons my veild Chameleon Bud was my absolute favorite i was sick when he died they only live a handful of years unfortunately mine made it a bit longer than 4 years they usually only lived 3 on average so i was lucky to have him that long and im glad i did he was freaking amazing a bit tempermental and would not bite everyone bu me and my sister 😂 he didn't but super hard but it was fun watching him snatch people's thumbs
Because of you I love and got my s juvenile bearded dragon
Thank you for this video, I have had my bearded dragon for 3 months, So all info is good.
I cant wait to get my Beardie next month. Im rehomeing one from someone who doesnt have the time anymore, gonna be a family Xmas (excuse for me to get one 😂) I have always wanted one and and just cannot wait!!!
I’ve been thinking about getting a beardie and I haven’t owned a reptile before so I’m doing research on it and just trying to find out what I need and what is best but this video has helped thank you!
I really like the care videos! Keep up the great work! I wish they would get more views for you so we could see more! Anyway have a great day!
Thanks! Will do!
If I had the space for an extra enclosure I would adore a beardy. 🥺
I've wanted a beardie for decades but still not in a position to have any reptiles. I move around too much. I fell in love with them in highschool when a friend of mine had one. She was super chill and would sit on my shoulder and watch TV with me.
I'm always willing to learn and I adore these videos! I've been keeping many species over the years, but never a beardie until now. I work as the head vet tech at a local shelter (I also work in emergency and specialize in critical care and stabilization) and a beardie was surrendered to us. She was in a house fire (with a bunch of other small animals), left behind for 2 days - the fire department didn't find her until later. She was already improperly kept in a 20 gallon with a coil UVB, anorexic, with inappetence and severely dehydrated. She was young and still had time to correct the issue.. It's not usual that we get reptiles at the shelter and no one to foster her. I became a beardie enthusiast overnight, and put my nursing skills to the test.. I was 80% sure she was not going to make it, and I would have to make the call for humane care. BUT She went from 79 grams to now a whopping 220 grams. Eating up a storm, all these salads, crickets, silkworms I've been giving her. All the supplements! Her transformation has been so amazing. Her personality has come right out. She frequents my hospital to meet my coworkers and puts a smile on everyone's face. Yes I adopted her shortly after her arrival, and she's my pal.
Thanks so much for watching 😀
Your care guides are the best!!!! Keep it up
Glad you like them! Thanks
i may be coming into ownership of a beardie, so I'm learning as much as i can. she's six, and currently belongs to a good friend of mine. I'm trying to do right by her
You’re going to do so good
@@WickensWickedReptiles Thank you.
I want one so bad! It’s all diamonds fault haha so frickin cute! Plus my savannah monitor or my tegu can’t chill on my shoulder 😅I love their goofy little walk/run too
You're my new trusted source of beardie info. I'm an anxious parent for sure and always feel like I'm doing something wrong or that he's not happy or sick or something. The big question I have is if he's about 6-8 months old should I upgrade to a 120 gallon from a 40 gallon and is he ok to have BioDude substrate?
hey thanks for watching! Yes you for sure can upgrade and use Biodude substrate
@@WickensWickedReptiles thanks! I'm also a very anxious pet parent and we've noticed our little guy has gotten really lethargic and staying in his hide most of the day the last few days. I'm.sure you've seen a lot of beardies and I'm just wondering if there should be a cause for concern. If you've got any thoughts let me know and happy to give more info. I just trust reptile owners to know a lot about the medical side of things since they've seen it a lot.
thankyou i jus got a beardie as a b day present i
My bearded dragon is my baby. I love him so much, he is running all over my living room as I write this. I got him from a local family who made the mistake of co-habbing two that they thought were female and had a bunch of whoopsie babies. He is a real gem, although I don't recommend them to many of my friends due to the space and life expectancy. Also the poops hahaha.
I have a beaded dragon! She is my only reptile. I love her.
I was think 6 by 2 by 3 I'll go 4 thank you I love your videos probably 2 years out keep me posted
Thank you very much. This was very informative. These animals are so cute.
I’m getting my own bearded dragon soon and I know a lot about them bc I take care of my friends a lot but this vid is helping me to thank you 4:03
The one reason I came to this video mainly is to figure out the diet. Adopting a bearded dragon soon after my cage is fully stable and setup and that’s the one thing im struggling with. I bought calcium without D as well as a multivitamin. Just dont know how often you have to dust their food with one or the other
Im a mod in a bearded dragon group. Nice to see decent videos do exist on care overall!
EXCELLENT guide! You da man Adam. Love to Diamond. Great info, no bs, and totally agree they are the best reptile pet if I had to choose just one.
