Lol… I followed some of these rules. I did not handle him the first day, but by the end of the second I began to hold him a bit. I increased out time each day. At two and half weeks in, he his now sleeping on my chest. I feel happy that I got a very nice dragon that bonded very quickly

  • @meganconway3374

Oops, I already broke the first rule, lol.
I got my first beardie 3 days ago. I have been picking him up, then letting him make the choice to chill on me or explore my bed while I talk to him. After day 2, he already wanted to sleep on my chest and started running onto my hand.
Idk if he's built differently or if I just did a good job bonding with him.

I still don't understand that rule. Personally, my beardie was given to me already tamed and really handleable. I gave up on the rule on day 2 or 3 & didn't notice any stress-related issues

    • @thejourney1360
      @thejourney1360 9 месяцев назад +3

It’s not a rule you need to follow most these people only say that to sound smart and to make it seem like they know what their talking about which they don’t
Bearded dragons are perfectly fine on sand if they get enough uvb/uva
The sand will past thru them
A scientist did a study on where they live in the wild 90% of the substrate is quartz sand which is what repti sand is
You can hold them the same day you get them as long as they are not stressed which means running from you hissing at you tail whipping etc

@@thejourney1360 They shouldn't be in straight up sand. They need organic soil plus play sand. Unless you are going off of the mixture that Dr Jonathan Howard identified but playsand and organic soil is just a safer bet. You are correct though this whole video is false.

I have had mine for 3 days, and he's also super chill. I have been picking him up, but I normally have him on my chest, and then I allow him to choose to stay or explore my bed.
Honestly, I think I might have found a social gem because he's already running onto my hand. Last night, he was settling down for bed and I gave him some pets. He closed his eyes and melted into my rubs.
I don't think my guy is stress at all by me

I had to be very hands on and intervene with my beardies on day two of their arrivals
My first beardie Spock was shedding, and she shed her body suit down to her legs and it was hanging off of her, she was left neglected with coccidia and pinworm at a petstore - she sharted very offensive parasitic turd all over herself and it got trapped in her stuck shed; she panicked and ran it all across the viv trying to run away from her own shart; we had to over familiarize very early and she was handled and bathed and her shed removal assisted; but I think she definitely appreciated that over the trapped turd and dirty viv alternative 😂
My second one was just last week; naturally the first thing you do is get a sample tested; the poor bugger is riddled with pinworm and coccidia (5000 EPG + occasional occysts) and was imported from Spain to here via flight and ferry.
He's also very tiny too; his third day here and already being taken to the vets and his new home in quarantine mode with his new viv furniture stripped down and viv deep cleaned daily💔😂 he opens his mouth defending his rock thinking I'm going to take it away! And I also have to give him his medication dose daily for the week - but we're getting there and it's better than prolonging illness over the settling in phase! His beard lightens to grey already and his intestines are definitely relieved of discomfort now
He also scratches at the viv to wake me up in the morning for food or to come out and hang; to shart on my bed! ♥️😂

It is completely ok to hold your bearded dragon the 1st day unless it is scared. If it is not scared it is best to hold as much as possible. This info only applies if holding them stresses them out. Do not let them free roam though. Also do not assume that dark lines on their stomach indicates stress at this age. It is completely normal.

She loves her new home and likes to sit on her red rock and just chill there. She loves to sit on my arm and just lay there for a minute. Ive been wanting a bearded dragon for ten years and finily got one and at firs i thought i was doung everything wrong. Thankfuly i know that she trusts me enough to willingly be held. ❤ a love by bearded dragon Raspberry and I think she likes me too l. ❤

Hoping someone might see this comment but if not, would love your advice @LORD ELION! We have reserved a beautiful baby bearded dragon just yesterday and pick her up in 2 weeks (too early to tell if it's a boy or girl but I think she gives off girl vibes!!). She has been well handled and we have even had a cuddle with her in the shop a couple of times to get her used to us, and she was chill as anything and listening to everything I was saying. Should I still not touch her once we bring her home or do you think it might not be as bad because she will be used to us by then as we keep visiting? Thank you!!!

Question! Loving your videos. Got my firsts new baby bearded dragon (maybe 5-6 months old). Have had him now for almost 3 weeks. He still gets skittish. Been putting my hand close to him. Sometimes he’s fine and lets me rub his chin, other times a tiny finger movement freaks him out and he runs away. He’ll eat lettuce from my hand and super worms. Should I still keep doing the same or start attempting to try and handle him?

I'm adopting a 1yr+ bearded dragon. It's coming tonight. My buddy is playing middle man. I've never actually seen him. The guy is getting rid of it because he can't handle it. My plan is to let it chill for a week and slowly start trying to tame him. I guess he hisses when you get near him. This is going to be a challenge and a half.

I lost my sweet boy Monday due to complications from atadenovirus. 😢 To everyone who purchases a new bearded dragon, please, please have your vet test for this virus. There is no cure and it is highly contagious. There are many different initial symptoms most common is stargazing. My poor boy from early on was always getting parasites, had coccidia, upper respiratory infections. Yes my set up is correct. Linear T5HO 10, 105-110 basking, 25-30% humidity. Come to find out in April of this year, he was aspirating food and had pneumonia and severe inflammation in his gut and a massive amount of saliva. She did a PCR test for Atadenovirus and it came back positive. He was never around other beardies except his tank mates at the pet store. I treated him with injections of antibiotics and anti-inflammatories as well as gave him supplements serapeptase, milk thistle and dandelion. Beardies with ADV have weakened immune systems so the get sick often. My boy did ok until 06/04 when the thick, sticky excessive saliva was all over his blanket when I woke him up. Vet advised me we could treat him again however with his inflamed gut, aspirating, and weakened immune system, he was just going to keep getting sick. I made the most agonizing decision of my life that Sunday. He was put to rest the next day as I was not going to let him suffer.
These big chain store pet shops are only concerned about profit. They do not care where these animals come from. They do not have the knowledge to advise anyone on the proper requirements. The breeders for them are the equivalent to puppy mills.
Instead of buying please consider adopting. So many need a loving home. If you do decide to buy, please buy from a respected breeder.
If you already have one beardie, please have them tested for ADV prior to getting another as well as testing the new one since it is highly contagious.

Dang i know that loss hurt*.. i just bought one today from pet smart , i bought a red bearded , they had him in the back in a tank by himself cuz they said when they had him in the tank with others on the store floor, he kept like bullying the others, he's only a little over a month old, they named him in the store "spicy boy"🤣, initially when she said she had one that is very aggressive in the back (which was spicy) i said lemme see him!! We held him he kinda bit/licked my homegirl hand and when i put my hand at the end of hers so he can crawl on to my hand he slick lookd and tryd to bite a little, but he was chill when i got him in my hand, i just kept petting him lightly and showing him attention he was fine i was like 🤨, yall just mishandling him and stressing him out in here so he feeling defensive idk why he was bullying others to the point they had to move him to the back room (only a month old😑) i said nah we making your bond today homie!! They put him in this little cup im looking like bro thats gotta be uncomfortable, got him in the car took the top off , talked to him, he then sat up looking around then jumped on to me and i just been gentle with him he was calm he didnt try to run or nothing, got him home coconut mulch, warmed up a little wash cloth type, wrapped him in it and put him in hose new home, but not before i fed the little dude 7 crickets!! I said man he was hungry they wasnt feeding him😡!! Thats why he was the way he was but man dude kept dozing off i knew he just needed sum tlc.. i have a 4yr old beared dragon so im already knowing how to handle them and the 4yr old loves me i think they understand English frfr!.. so after getting his home together, wrapped him in a warm cloth , put him in his new home, he aint move since and went right to sleep😎!... he just stared at me the whole night until i sat him in his enclosure... im slick geeked cuz his energy is like mine ... Definitely a lil firey , so i named him "🌋 ".. resembles perfectly! .. (sorry for the lengthy yall).. idk if ima be able to not touchem for a few days ineed him to know u safe now u can trust me

Hi! I just recently got a baby bearded dragon. I haven’t been touching him and just letting him settle. He eats and poops normally. But I noticed when I go up to him he starts to breathe heavy and gulp? I thought it could be a defensive thing & he was telling me like “hey lady back up” then I read they do it when they are going to shed but I also seen it could be signs of an upper RI. How do I tell the difference? Is there any way I can send you a video of him doing it? Petsmarts only advice is to bring him in and exchange him but what if there isn’t anything wrong? Tyia

Man, my new beardie absolutely loved to be picked up. He runs down when he sees me come into the room and when I place my hand, he climbs up

He just gotta learn you bro. Y’all still strangers a lil bit. He gone come around 🙏🏾 their bites are harmless btw. I hope it didn’t hurt. We’re new to this too. My husband and I just agreed to let our kids get one and he had a good first night. Settling in well! I’m down to trade tips if you want 🤷🏽‍♀️
