I currently work in an office, crunching numbers and running models for aircraft 10 - 11 hours per day. It sucks, I've often thought about quitting this job, buy a small home with a fair size piece of land, start my own garden, engage my neighbors in that sort of activity. But you're right, making that leap from one lifestyle to another takes guts.

When you don't have a lot of food, you sleep a lot and rest a lot (I know because I went months without food) and to preserve energy you just do what you need to do. All I thought about was how to preserve as much energy as possible at all times, and when I could eat next. Its a totally different mindset. The body can live off of very little food if it has too, but you will spend a lot of time resting, finding ways to stay warm, not moving a lot, , and eating when you can and if you can. My situation wasn't because of lack of money, it was a health problem that made eating impossible. And so that is what the body does, when under starvation or possibility of starvation. These folks look like they are just trying to stay warm and fed, and it can be hard just saving your physical and mental energy for what you need to do.
You don't need dignity just as much as you don't need money. All people need is love.

Looks like a community of very cool people. I don't understand (if everyone is living without money) who owns the property, and who is paying the property taxes, and how. Do they allow people to "squat" on land they don't own in London? Another thing, I'd love to see a community like this that lives completely off of what nature provides. Living from donations still requires other people to have money- just not the people who live in the village. I'd love to see people eating from the produce of the land, and building from the materials Nature provides.

My father grew up in a rural village in East Asia before he moved to the United States, back in Connecticut we had a house, he built a garden out of scrap wood in the back yard, bought some fertilizer, but also used diluted human urine (for nitrogen i guess) to water the garden. He grew so many lush tomatoes, squashes and melons that he ended up giving most of it away to friends and family. if you have land make good use of it, don't build parking lots, build a local farm.

So a good friend of mine went to get his brother from one of these and bring him home for the holiday. He stayed with them a few days. It was his observation that many of the people living in these conditions were unable to function in normal society. Many were running from debts, coping with addictions, were pot heads, or were simply just "weird". He had said his brother was not able to function while back home for the holidays. He had lived in a "community" for about 2 years at that time and simply had become disconnected from reality. He had also mentioned that after a period of time his brother and other members had taken to robbing local stores and homes, had become beggars, and essentially could not sustain themselves. They were detested by locals and for good reason. It's not so glorious.

On a small scale this works. For the whole world's population food production is done in a very efficient mechanized way. The world cannot function like this on a large scale. It's about the logistics. Here they talk about getting free food from the society they have left behind. So they really haven't left it behind. All the stuff they have scavenged are products from the modern world they are so opposed to living in.

Todd Lavigne the sollution is somthing the majority can have, permaculture, sustainability, and quality! we need not live in a tent! but many of the things they are doing is spot on, because they have freed up thier time to create more than they consume, so even if not everyone in society can live off trash, but everyone can take action now not some day off in the distant abstract futurewhich never comes! meanwhile as we all critique them they will be building on this idea and actually doing somthing, and they wont always need to dumpsterdive, but as long as the food is there to eat then these peoples project can be fueled off it.

During the thousands of years of monetary system, most workers have been paid just enough to make it necessary that they return to work, even when higher wages have been possible. How else can the wage-payer keep the workers coming back? Take off all the mask, manners, fancy clothes, all the devices you use and be the most honest person you can be with yourself, then whatever love you get then is real. All the false approaches, like trying to be a player, only bring false results... We live in a world where our social system is old, our language is old, the way we acquire goods and services is outdated, our cities are detrimental to our health, chaotic and a tremendous waste of resource, and most of all our politics and values no longer serve us. So, "normal" is really what society dictates as normal and if we're born in that world, we would see that as normal. But if you think about it for a second, is it really? To better understand a Resource Based Economy consider this: if all the money in the world suddenly disappeared, but topsoil, factories, and other resources were left intact, we could build anything we chose to build and fulfill any human need. It is not money that people need, but access to the necessities of life without having to appeal to a government bureaucracy or any other agency. In a Resource Based Economy money is irrelevant. What's required are the resources and manufacturing and distribution of the products. In a monetary system, purchasing power is not related to the capacity to produce goods and service. For example, in a recession there are computers in store windows and automobiles in car lots; but people do not have the purchasing power to buy them. The rules of the monetary system are obsolete and create needless strife, deprivation, and human suffering.
In today’s culture of profit we do not grow foods based on demand, nor do we practice medicine solely to cure diseases. Industry's major motivation is profit. - Jacque Fresco ~ THE VENUS PROJECT~

and most of our technology is subject to planned obsolescense meaning they are engineered to break down, and stop working so you go buy more stuff. but in the old days, they had phones from 50 years ago that still work to this day, because they was engineered not to wear out and break down. they make more money with circular consumption. engineering things not to break down would better the lives of people, but they dont make as much money. they dont wanna better the lives of humanity, they do what they do for there own selfish desires.

Here's what I see. A bunch of people regressing back a few hundred years. The reason we work is so that we don't spend the entire day "hunting" and "washing." Bills?!?!? What bills?!?!? I don't mind paying for water, waste water management, and electricity. Almost everything else is optional. You don't really have to own a car if you don't want to (get a bike). I just really do not see the point of this, AND this would never work if technologically more advanced/wealthier people didn't donate all that stuff to them. People living today just need to learn how not to live beyond their means. In the setting of this video, once people start complaining about fairness, the whole thing will break down. There is no way that everyone will agree that everyone is contributing equally or enough. Everyone has different ideas of what is fair and reasonable. And they shun people that are different. I thought accepting differences is a sign of progress.

This unavoidable conflict you speak of...it is the stub of the tail; a tail that fell off. If you see potential for conflict, YOU are the conflict. Let it go. And if you can, you will find something replaces it. Much richer than creature comforts, or surplus. It will be an abundance that has no name. Sure, there is a place here for you.... > The reason we work is so that we don't spend the entire day "hunting" and "washing."
The reason we work is because the societies' rich have systematically eliminated economic liberty for the poor to create cheap and abundant labor. Our ancestors were physically coerced out of their previous situations to sever their historic ties with land and thus their economic self-sufficiency.
To imply that the current socioeconomic status quo was a choice made by the working class which they thought would be naturally to their advantage is at least stretching the truth, and likely misinformed.

Just turned 28 this month, been working my whole life. Ever since I left home at 18. Always been an outdoorsman, I am sooooo sick of the society that most of us live in today. Physically and mentally sick, I just want to move out in the sticks. Lived in Alabama my whole life, fishing - hunting all is second nature to me. I’m a loner, not very socially active - just me and my dogs living day by day. Living to die and dying to live. I feel like I’m stuck in a endless loop, like I just need to move one foot forward but I’m dragging a truck behind me. It really sucks being 28, no family left alive and no friends. I was quite popular in high school, played ball since peewees. After I hit about 20-21 years of age I just changed. Been a loner ever since. I don’t go out to eat, don’t go to any type of social gatherings. However I do live in the country, I struggle to pay bills and rent etc. I’m just ready to leave it behind, start new. The sticks are calling me.

Hi, bub, I'm a woodsrunner like you, but quite older. Please forgive me if I'm being impertinent, but understand the difference between REALLY NEEDING to do something and CHOOSING to do that thing. If the former goes to shit, you went down fighting; if the latter goes to shit, you're a dumbass who should've known better. Have you read the book INTO THE WILD and/or seen the movie? The only thing that kept me from doing the same thing (other than really practicing the necessary skills) was freezing my ass off just here in Appalachia while getting blessed by the Almighty with venison. Running water and cheesesteak subs fixed just so are more than worthy. Think carefully and slowly--the sticks are unforgiving even to those who seemingly know all about them, and don't give sons of bitches cause to use you as a cautionary example. The Lord be with you, and keep your powder dry.

You are not alone living like that. I fell out of society 10 years ago. I still work part time as an gardner, but I never meet people more than necessery. I don't like this game everyone is playing, I rather live on my own as much as possible than paticipate in any kind of social society. My life is very diffrent from my old life, I don't consider it beeing even close to good because of my dark mind, but at least Im awake now and I don't have to deal with close minded people on a daily basis. Don't know what would do life better, so I will let it pass this way. I have plenty of free time, not many things I have to do, I do what I want to do.

Today I bought 17 Cell Phones that were *taken out of the dumpsters* @ 20 Cents apiece. Yes I spent $3.40. That guy has some Beer.
I can either recover the Gold and Palladium myself or sell then for $5 per pound
Generally five of them weigh about a pound. ($1 per pound at 20 cents each.)
I just box them up and when I get 200 of them, or so, then I will sell them or process them. (It is not that I can make a living from this. But those dollars add up.)

There is a middle vision, I nope these nice folks will find it. Sometimes though "freedom" isn't just about you, it can be about freeing those around you so that they don't have to support you, provide medical care, etc. But bless them for trying.

The problem with it is taking away a lot of interaction and awareness. For trading in my town you have to pay some odd amount or else. You even have to pay for providing a service! You and the party receiving! OR ELSE jail or worse. The worse of it to me is you don't even care what the other wants. Just give me what I want and here's your money, leave me be attitude. Even when it funds oppression, pollution, war, and media to brainwash you into keeping the cycle of death. Pendulum energy. We are the device. There is gravity to ground us and love to move. Lose money and gain love or shall I say momentum that can only grow. You can not do anything with money here without supplying the merchants of death in power. That's why.

To each his own,,, Even if I had to live very simply I would rather work than live a lifestyle like this. If they are happy [and they seem to be ] with this then more power to them. They don't seem to be hurting anyone and they use a lot of things that would otherwise be trashed. But a lifestyle like this should only be done if a person has no children. It would be unfair to raise a child in this manner. It seems to me that they could tidy up their living space a little bit better than they have.

    • @prettybullet7728

I just don't think that a parent should raise a child in a squatters camp like they are living in. And from what I see many of them choose to live this way. Children deserve better than that. They deserve a clean place to live,,,clean clothes and enough food to eat. I realize that there are parts of the world where that is an impossibility and they have to do everything just to simply survive. I also don't believe in welfare queens who just sit around,,,pop out kids and collect everything they can. My neighbor was a welfare queen. The longest she ever held a job was one week,,,,she had three kids so she received the maximum of everything available. She knew how to work the system. She drove a cadillac,,the kids wore $100 dollar shoes,,,she had brand new furniture and they ate steak and ribs regularly. At that time I drove a 10 year old Honda,,our clothes and shoes came from Wal-Mart,,,all my furniture was old and we ate bean tacos on a regular basis. Was I jealous? Yes I was and I was also a little resentful. I'm a single mother of two kids. I'm walking to my car every night to go to work at the hospital and she is sitting there on the couch watching T.V.

JEFFREY HARDIN This is only at best partially true. While there is a chance to get some treatments, the cost to individuals is outrageous. I had a friend who was in an accident and didn't have insurance cause she couldn't afford it. Had to go to the emergency room. The charge for the visit was outrageous, but if she hadn't gone she would have died. Sadly they have taken almost everything she had to pay and now shes living in a homeless shelter. And thanks to still owing money, whenever we have tried to help, collections have taken it before she has been abel to get back on her feet. That was and still is a broken fucking system.
I'm sorry but the system as is, pre AND post Obamacare is a fucking joke. We pay like 10 - 100x as much as other countries do for the same care, IF we're lucky. Nothing is worse since Obamacare, (though its only marginally better if that) unless you are listening to FAUX news and their misinformation.

No we took the natives land because we needed to further evolve the human race, majority of natives died from disease which initially was the law of nature not just because of whites. With this land we did amazing things...and FAST, When are horses got tired we built cars, when we wanted to fly we built a plane, when people asked if the moon was cheese we got our asses up their to find out,

I just think you may not be paying for stuff, but others have paid for your food and other stuff. So you are living off others working for their money. There is nothing wrong with working for what you have, you can get a great sense of achievement, it builds character. Makes you strong, not always a bad thing to have money. Greed is bad. Learning contentment is more important.

I've seen eco-villages, and this is a squatter settlement. They don't appear to be growing any of their own food, and they are still dependent on goods from urban centers to survive.

    • @theintrovertedaspie9095
      @theintrovertedaspie9095 Год назад

They settle for what they have. And what do they have?---groceries scores or businesses who throw out expired foods. Now if worse came to worse, like if those stores shut down then they'll have to settle for growing food or other alternatives. Its just like the cavemen. They too had to use or settle for what they have. If they had a bunch of bushes and trees filled with fruits, nuts, or berries, they'll take it. If they had a river filled with fish, they'll take it. Or if they had a forest filled with big fat animals, they'll take it. The cave people had to constantly change their diets and ways of getting food just to survive, but thats just how life was back then. Those methods of survival is what got us through the ice age.
Now some may say these people in the video are moochers, but still, they have to survive. Any lifestyle they choose is always gonna piss someone off. They like moochers of society whereas the cave people were like moochers of nature.

This will definitely be not the life I will life, but it gives me more impulses to reduce more and more my things of need. When you begin, you see and feel, what things are really important in life. I have lived this way before. I left it to live what most people would consider a better lifestyle. There are many days when I am stuck at work in a toxic work environment when I just want to say the hell with it all. So much of my life I spend at work and I can't get the time back again it is a real shame. At least they aren't stuck in traffic, stuck in a building, dreading going to work in the morning, stuck in a rat race. All for what? Just to keep a roof over my head that I end up over paying for. I live alone and don't have any kids or a wife depending on me for anything. And I already know that I can survive the way they are living. Do I really want to spend half of my life slaving away at a mediocre job just to be told to piss off in the end while some rich asshole is taking advantage of my hard work? My family owns land where I could plant a garden, hunt, build a cabin and be free. The time I spend at work I could be out enjoying the weather while I tend my garden or sitting under a shade tree fishing for my dinner not giving a flying shit what is going on in the rat race.

Also, maybe I'm wrong and I'll accept that, I'm willing to bet you don't have good food... Your place may be nice, it's subjective though. And bathing in a bath hardly compares to bathing under a lovely warm shower out in the open. You enjoy it more because you don't take it for granted, it's gorgeous. But keep on working 9-5 anyway, hey. Maybe there'll be some sort of reward in it.
