I loved Laura Linney as Amy Adams' cynical, materialistic mother. Only onscreen for a few minutes, but such a trip seeing her. (And she had the best line in the movie: "Eventually, we all turn into our mothers".)

Just got back from seeing this and Yes, it's a solid 9. One of the best movies I've seen in quite sometime. I'm glad there are still real film makers out there.
Michael Cassolato how can you deny that his level of success and acclaim in two completely different industries is impressive and requires an immense amount of talent?
90% of fashion designers put out pretentious nonsense that no normal person would wear. That's not talent, that is living within a bubble. As for film, yes, he has talent as a director, but the real talent of film-making lies within the screenplay. A good director can't make a bad screenplay work, but a good screenplay can make a bad director look good. The writing in this film is ok and the industry is fawning over him b/c of who he is.
Michael Cassolato why do you talk with such conviction about something you obviously know nothing about and clearly never even made an attempt to understand?
Seamus McGarvey was asked, 'What's the difference between a camera man and a cinematographer?' He replied "About $200,000" He was sipping wine in his Tuscan villa at the time.
Michael Shannon stole a Jake Gyllenhaal movie! Think about that for a second. I wasn't as in love with the movie as these guys but I'd have no issue with him winning all the Supporting Actor accolades!
This is not a movie for a general audience. It's more for the select, rather refined. Anyone who wasn't apt to understand the opening of the film into the transition it makes on the gallery, is likely not to have the ability to look further at the gorgeous depth of this production.
Rob Robberson Well I don't think anything before Nightcrawler was a definite win , he's always been great , but 2014 , he could've played any of the nominees parts but no one could have played his , if that's not how you define a winner then I don't know how .
Victor Morales If any male gets a nomination from this movie, it should be Michael Shannon or Aaron Taylor Johnson. Jake was great, but the other two were standouts
I had mixed feelings on wanting to see this movie. This review got me totally on board with it. The thing I mostly love about Amy Adams is that she almost always chooses great scripts (and yes, she is gorgeous). What The Flick had a great week this week. They had a lot of movies to review. And, almost all of them were worth watching (Oscar bait season ?). I wish, on weeks that the movies are awful, they would give a 3 min review and then delve into the archives to review one of the great older movies. And Finally, everyone on the show had actually seen the movies. I hate when they have someone on the panel say I didn't (take the time to) see the movie. Good all around.
This should have been a best picture nomination in my opinion. I hope Michael Shannon wins for best supporting actor. He kills it. What a devastating movie. So so good. Definitely in my top 10.
I absolutely love this movie. Tom Ford makes crime scenes looks stylish. That scene where the two women found on the red velvet couch was beautiful. Not beautiful that they were murdered but the way it was staged was brilliant. But the acting is just first rate. Amy Adams....why does she not have an Oscar? She should have at least two by now.
I would have to go for Hackshaw Ridge for my favourite film of the year....though i am yet to see hell or high water......what films did you guys feel was the best for you in 2016?
Great Review (because I agreed with it) but also because your comments were spot on. I saw it today and was rivited and totally absorbed. The actors were incredible and the cinematography exquisite. Thanks
A little high? You do realize that this is Christy's review. If you want to rate it lower, start up your own channel and give us your thoughts. Good luck cracking 100 views though.
Nocturnal Animals is actually MUCH better than Arrival imo. And I loved Arrival. I'm a huge fan of Hitchcock, and this film honestly felt like it was directed by Hitchcock. I think it's worthy of a 9.8/10.
Berfin Tarhan yeah. At that point I thought present day was a mixture of fantasy and reality, with her daughter looking to be around 19-20 yrs old (approximately the length of separation between her and her first husband).
Ikaika eek-kai-ka cos she felt totally alone and afraid so wanted human contact, the way the daughter kind of snubs her show how bad her current life is in all aspects
Really love how excited Christy gets about this movie around the 1:30 mark. That said the subject matter does not attract me. Dysfunctional marriages and morose self-destructive personalities, thanks but no thanks. I have or at least had my own junk to deal with, I don't think I have anything to learn here. The mood looks consistently dour and depressed, much like last month's Girl on the Train. I'd rather see Deepwater Horizon a third time or maybe Doctor Strange.
Jeez Aaron in this movie I'm so impressed cause he's not like that at all obviously and I'm just impressed how he could dive into his character so well ughhh such a good movie
It's funny that none of the them acknowledged the title sequence, which is fucked up, unnecessary, cringe-inducing and kind of pretentious. It turned me off from fully enjoying the movie
I know. He didn't even write The Wrap's review for Room (it's under a different critic). Alonso has said he doesn't care for Room, but never explains why
Holy shit Matt looks like a completely different person!! I haven't seen him since he did the schmoedown with Grey but that was just like 2 months ago!
I think this movie only got 75 on the tomato meter due to the ending because it is kinda confusing. You really have to be on your toes to understand the story and the ending.Great movie! I am glad I went to see it.All the actors did a terrific job specially Michael Shannon he is a great actor.
I just saw it, and while I was pulled in and intrigued all the way through it, I just didn't like the ending at all. The performances are all great, but that ending really annoyed me.
Nocturnal Animals is about the means of justifying bias. Or, to put it another way, Tom Ford's drama is about the moral need to end the duplication of cause so that the original cause of the universe has a right to become violent. Even more impressively, Nocturnal Animals is about the war between the link between reality's origin and morality and the ability of that link.
I thought the movie was okay, but not that great. Especially in the first half you have no clue what's going on. And it's not like the movie is dropping clue's or anything. It doesn't really seem to go anywhere. The dialogue left me pretty bored for the largest part of the movie and the acting seemed a bit over the top or not genuine at times. As the movie progresses the story is becoming more clear and it becomes more enjoyable. It's not that i don't get confusing storylines or don't enjoy movies where you really have to think but this one just didn't really do it for me. Definitely not Amy Adams' best performance of the year but it's worth checking it out if you like these kind of movies. I don't think the mainstream moviegoer would enjoy this movie that much. I would rate it a 6,5/10
spoilers-'''''-'felt like real cinema. loved it. but i felt the story within a story always felt like just a story so didnt affect anything for me. ATJ was like tom hardy good. and how good was shannon?
revenge within a revenge story. Great foreshadowing in the beginning when Amy Adams suffers a paper cut from opening Gyllenhaal's manuscript. That's just one detail out of many. really need to watch this movie half a dozen times in order to find all the "oh, I see what they did there", moments!
I just want to know what all you critics have been smoking. This film stinks something awful. It's all style with zero substance. It's like a big dumb soap opera where we watch Amy Adams contemplate where her multi millionaire lifestyle went so tragically wrong. As we watch her read her ex's terrible novel. I honestly thought it was a parody for a while until I realised just what a self indulgent pile of crap it really is. Comparisons with Mulholland Drive are simply foolish.
Amy Adams has to have the greatest agent in Hollywood or she gave or soul or something. She keeps getting all these big mainstream films and quality indie-ish films. Out of all the female redheads out there in Hollywood, Jessica Chastain is the only one who can actually act but damn. Amy Adams is doing something cause she can't act for shit lol.
Nope. She can't act. Julianne Moore came before all of them and so she's far above their league. Jessica Chastain is a lot better of an actress than Adams. I've seen enough off Adams to know this is true. The shitty DC movies, and her David O. Russell performances are average.
I loved Laura Linney as Amy Adams' cynical, materialistic mother. Only onscreen for a few minutes, but such a trip seeing her. (And she had the best line in the movie: "Eventually, we all turn into our mothers".)
Don't you just love it when these three love a movie??
Vijay Kumar Nope.
especially not this one. lol
This is thе nicеist movie i ever sеe!!! I аdvise еverybody tо watch it :) twitter.com/0b6c4732adf184761/status/792184353576980480 Nocturnal AAАAnimаls Оfficial Мovie Reviеw

how can Tom Ford possess all of that talent
sebastian sfeci I am shoook
he's not that talented. Fashion designers are typically ridiculous and this was poorly written.
Michael Cassolato
how can you deny that his level of success and acclaim in two completely different industries is impressive and requires an immense amount of talent?
90% of fashion designers put out pretentious nonsense that no normal person would wear. That's not talent, that is living within a bubble. This wasn't a Jake Gyllenhaal movie. It was co-owned by him and Amy Adams though the plot structure was the real star.
Personally I thought Jake Gyllenhaal stole the film for me along with Johnson
shannon steals every film he appears in
Umar Bajwa I think the movie was strong because no individual stole the show. Great performances all around.
LOL I love when she referenced loving the guy taking a shit in the woods and the discomfort and word-finding struggle of her co-hosts!
This is not a movie for a general audience. It's more for the select, rather refined. Anyone who wasn't apt to understand the opening of the film into the transition it makes on the gallery, is likely not to have the ability to look further at the gorgeous depth of this production.
the jump scare scared the shit out of me. couldn't trust the film after that lol.
can't remember it wat was it?
oh yeah the baby moniter
***** haha it's a one off so after it you're all good
If Gyllenhal doesn't get a Oscar nod I will be pissed . He should have won for night crawler .
Victor Morales I stopped taking the Oscars seriously a while back. He should have won one already but whatever.
Rob Robberson Well I don't think anything before Nightcrawler was a definite win , he's always been great , but 2014 , he could've played any of the nominees parts but no one could have played his , if that's not how you define a winner then I don't know how .

LUXKIO Shannon was so badass!
YMS gave it a 9. That's more than enough of a recommendation.
What's 'YMS'?
Joe Smith YourMovieSucksDotOrg. A film critic on RUclips who is hilarious and knows his shit about film.
It's why I saw it, but Adam will also occasionally give more credit to some films than they deserve (as with this one)

I saw this back to back with Arrival and it shits all over it. In my top 3 of the year so far.
arrival wasn't that good... this one is a 10/10 👍
I had mixed feelings on wanting to see this movie. This review got me totally on board with it. Dang. Matt lost a ton of weight. Haven't been here in a while. Didn't recognize him at first. Congrats!
Just saw this......DIZZYING. I'm with Christy. 100% in my top 3 or 4 of the year.
Interesting. I'll add this to my list of films to watch.
The Academy passed on this for best pic, best actors, director. I disagree.
excited to see this
Go see it. Really good!
Phuck Ewe will do!
Is this movie out? can someone tell me please.Thank you
This should have been a best picture nomination in my opinion. I hope Michael Shannon wins for best supporting actor. He kills it. What a devastating movie. So so good. Definitely in my top 10.
agree with you 100% absolutely love this movie 👍

9.8 for rippled muscular dumps
I don't pop molly's, I rock Tom Ford...
I’m surprised they don’t mention the opening. One of the most bizarre opening shots of a movie I’ve ever seen
3:55 - Sure, it's not your thing, Christy, shuuure.
I would have to go for Hackshaw Ridge for my favourite film of the year....though i am yet to see hell or high water......what films did you guys feel was the best for you in 2016?
Tom Ford presents Sad People In Nice Houses :)
I've never seen Christy giggling this much.
Great Review (because I agreed with it) but also because your comments were spot on. I saw it today and was rivited and totally absorbed. The actors were incredible and the cinematography exquisite. Thanks
Why aren't any youtube critics reviewing Bleed For This?
Really liked it but calm down Christy with the 9.8 rating. That's a little too high. I think Arrival is more worthy of that rating
Gavin48 agreed
Gavin48 This is better than Arrival
za21 really? For me arrival was way better. Still a good movie though
Opening in Chicago this weekend as well (fyi)
What happened to Michael Shannon's character at the end?
MATT! Wow. I mean, look at you. Great job, man.
WHAT THE FUCK. This is Matt? He looks so different
been away for a while I take it. This is hardly a new look, if you come here on a weekly basis.
Chris Wright Yeah. I think last time I saw him was during their Game of Thrones reviews, which was like half a year ago.
Would still smash tho.
I freaked out when Christ said this movie reminded her of Muholland Drive because I had the same exact thought!
yeah cuz of the jump scare
Here's my Christy impression: "I love the CLOTHES!"
I like it when Christy gets all excited and, for me at least, it usually means I'll enjoy the film...but this one feels a little hyped.
I absolutely love this film. Does anyone have an explanation on the call to her daughter?
Berfin Tarhan yeah. At that point I thought present day was a mixture of fantasy and reality, with her daughter looking to be around 19-20 yrs old (approximately the length of separation between her and her first husband).
Ikaika eek-kai-ka cos she felt totally alone and afraid so wanted human contact, the way the daughter kind of snubs her show how bad her current life is in all aspects
it was her imagination calling the daughter she aborted
Y'all should've warned me about that opening title sequence!! Oh My God!!
Why is Matt dressed like he is about to join The Young Republicans Fullerton Chapter?
Really love how excited Christy gets about this movie around the 1:30 mark. That said the subject matter does not attract me. Dysfunctional marriages and morose self-destructive personalities, thanks but no thanks. I have or at least had my own junk to deal with, I don't think I have anything to learn here. this movie was amazing 👍 10 /10
Jeez Aaron in this movie I'm so impressed cause he's not like that at all obviously and I'm just impressed how he could dive into his character so well ughhh such a good movie
They forgot to say to keep your eyes shut for the first 3 minutes.
It's funny that none of the them acknowledged the title sequence, which is fucked up, unnecessary, cringe-inducing and kind of pretentious. It turned me off from fully enjoying the movie
Watched this yesterday. Loved the story in the novel and how it was portrayed. Michael Shannon is amazing. Wasn't so into the rest of the movie though
I agree with Christy NC did remind me of Mulholland Drive
ALONSO, WHY DIDNT YOU LIKE "ROOM"??
Whaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaat? Honestly Alonso has blunders in his critiques all the time.
I know. He didn't even write The Wrap's review for Room (it's under a different critic). Alonso has said he doesn't care for Room, but never explains why
But still, he has seen Room and I'm curiously why he didn't like it. I thought Room was flawless
Holy shit Matt looks like a completely different person!! I haven't seen him since he did the schmoedown with Grey but that was just like 2 months ago!
one word. no two.........FUCKING EPIC.....TOM FORD......

Why didn't you like it?
Meh... in the UK Nocturnal Animals was so 3 weeks ago
I've been waiting so long for another Tom Ford movie!!!!!
Cant wait
a ko-to-re-yay? koturee what? What, Alonso??
How does a score of 91 equal to 75%? :{
Other films have ended up with lower scores, yet, still rate high enough on the tomatometer.
Is everyone on a diet? Everyone seems to be getting slimmer. All looking very good. I need those diet tips from Matt.
I thought the movie was okay, but not that great. Especially in the first half you have no clue what's going on. And it's not like the movie is dropping clue's or anything. Isla Fisher looks nothing like Amy Adams....that comparison goes to Tonya Harding when she was young.
That's exactly what I thought after watching the movie... It's similar to Mulholand drive!!
yeah cuz of the jump scare
Sound confusing to me, but might be interesting if one is in the mood for such a dark movie.
Brilliant movie 👍
I LOVED IT‼️‼️
Army Hammer named his kid Scrubbing BUbbles
Just trying to find a movie not starring Amy Adams
you lot are easily impressed, 9.8 christy..................seriously?
its a solid 7 .......and thats being generous
I LOVED this movie. Definitely going to watch it again soon.
Damn Matt! Looking all trim but I miss the facial hair
Reminds you of Mulholland Drive? Oh shit! Now I will avoid this at all costs!
9.8/10? Just say 10/10!!!!
Gresh854 HAHAHAHAHAHA
All you people saying Matt looks different - where the fuck have you been for the past month?
Amy Adams played in the best 2 movies of the year amazing movies
arrival wasn't that good.... this one is a 10/10 👍
I liked this movie. I honestly just thought it was new and interesting.
mother
Thought it was ehh
I hadn't seen this videos in a while. WHAT THE FUCK HAPPEN TO MATT
revenge within a revenge story. Great foreshadowing in the beginning when Amy Adams suffers a paper cut from opening Gyllenhaal's manuscript. That's just one detail out of many.
really need to watch this movie half a dozen times in order to find all the "oh, I see what they did there", moments!
aren't there like 40 tom fords working in Hollywood?
Nihilist Ivy this one also works in the fashion industry
I loved this movie 😍
I love you 😍
Matt has lost so much weight omg 🙀🙀🙀
I really disliked this movie. Maybe I'll watch it again to see what others are seeing.
Matt lost so much weight. hardly recognized him wtf
this movie was pretentious and dull
I just want to know what all you critics have been smoking. This film stinks something awful. It's all style with zero substance. jake is sooooo weak
wtf happened to Matt, give him a cheeseburger asap for crying out loud..
it's really freaking me out.
stomac stapling is my guess
This felt like a David Lynch movie
Amy Adams has to have the greatest agent in Hollywood or she gave or soul or something. She keeps getting all these big mainstream films and quality indie-ish films. Out of all the female redheads out there in Hollywood, Jessica Chastain is the only one who can actually act but damn. Amy Adams is doing something cause she can't act for shit lol.
Jack Brown she was amazing in American Hustle. She might not be Julianne Moore but she can definitely act. Wtf is wrong w u lol
Nope. She can't act. Julianne Moore came before all of them and so she's far above their league. Jessica Chastain is a lot better of an actress than Adams. I've seen enough off Adams to know this is true. The shitty DC movies, and her David O. Russell performances are average.
This movie was trash, I wasted my money. You shouldn't either. Don't believe the hype.
Just didn’t get it. Didn’t like it. The ending was bizarre. 👎
Tom Ford certainly knows enough to cast good actors.
Looking forward to this.
