At first I was thinking that Natalie Portman is way too young to be playing Jackie Kennedy, and then I looked it up and Natalie Portman is a year older than Jackie Kennedy was at the time that this takes place. Holy shit.
I'm so happy that my fellow Chilean Pablo Larrain (maybe the best Chilean director working today) is finally getting some recognition, the guy has another movie this year that already has a Critic Choice nomination for best foreign film for Neruda (fantastic film by the way), and it's one of the fronrunner for the Oscar. I really hope this movie opnes more dorrs for him on the big Hollywood leagues.
I'm 65, so I remember Vaughn Meader. I also remember David Frye who did Richard Nixon. If I remember correctly, when JFK was asked about Vaughn Meader, He said I think he sounds more like Bobby. I think it is a shame that vocal impersonators have totally disappeared from the comedic landscape.
if I do remember correctly Oliver Stone did show the actual assassination with Kennedy's actual head exploding not just a movie special effect with an actor so I don't quite know what you guys are talking about.
It's curious how none of these three stooges talk about DIRECTING, SHOTS, PHOTOGRAPHY, COLORS, PACE... movie critics today seems like they're reviewing a book with actors... and music... Anyway. That movie was gorgeous to watch.
+Kay Jay - I agree. I had to see this movie because I lived through it. As a 13 year old I saw Lee Harvey Oswald killed on live TV. I don't know how, as a kid, I managed to deal with that. Also, at a point in the movie, I forgot that I was looking at Natalie Portman, and started to see Jackie Kennedy. She gave strength to the country. We had to learn how to deal with this tragedy since Jackie could. The one thing that surprised me is that they didn't show the iconic image of John John saluting as his father's casket passed by.
lol! those images wouldn't intercut with current plus few of those remains and they are all in museums anyway. you can emulate the film grade digitally anyway.
I'm not quite sure how can Alonso give "Jackie" a 7.0 and "Bad Santa 2" a 6.0, and not even feel embarrassed. That's how a 12 year old would rate those movies. I know it's his opinion, but he's a movie critic ffs.
No mention of Caspar Phillipson who looked a lot like JFK, and deserved at least some credit. The dance near the end of the film where Peter Sarsgaard playfully pushes CP away is a little light relief from the unrelenting sombreness.
OK this line had me laughing my ass off. The Priest says to Jackie "God is everywhere." Jackie says "Was he in the bullet that killed Jaaaaaack?" I'm not exaggerating. Noah Oppenheim, please stick to producing the Today show.
Very poor selection in Natalie Portman as Jackie. From the voice and sort of accent to just not having enough facial similarities and even the way she carried herself. I never stopped seeing Natalie, as Alonzo put it so well.
They put some of the Jackie footage matched with Portman's, it was damn near identical, down to the inflections and mannerisms of her voice and body. Natalie Portman did a very good job.
They just couldn't help themselves with taking a jab at Nancy Reagan. As soon as the review began I knew they would. On a different note, I'm glad Ben's finally back.
No doubt the acting, directing, etc was great but goodness do we need another Camelot/Kennedy/Jackie, etc movie? Who in the hell asked for this or cares? Are there any other stories to be told? Just over it...kinda like the recent release 'Rules Don't Apply'. We the public just don't care to see another movie made about the same dead people. Full stop....:)
Still annoying and repetitive. Those films never bring anything new to the table. I get it, it was an awful time and people suffered. For how much longer can people milk this?
I was not into this. The score was nerve grating. It didn't go into how she felt about his numerous affairs. She puts him on a pedestal and acts psychotic throughout the movie. I also did not see Jackie in Portman at all. This was a miss for me.
So basically Natalie Portman just does a terrible John Kennedy impression the entire time? I'll skip it. Who the hell decided she was a good actress anyhow? Did you even see Star Wars?!
Jackie had too unique a face to be portrayed by almost anyone really. She was a very odd type of attractive. Natalie Portman is just way too attractive in a not at all odd way but she gets very close to the voice and mannerisms to make it partially believable. However, this story is not one to interest me what so ever.
she just was no beauty . she was from a wealthy family and of bearing age and that's ok. a beautiful woman she ain't never been. the only beauty in the kennedy clan was John john
***** lol! what was considered immaculate beauty was the likes of Polly Bergen. I remember reading enough articles from the 60s newspaper where Jackeline looks were not described favourably. The one Bouvier who was fairly good looking was her sister.
Thank you for mentioning Nancy Reagan bc I see the comparison in treatment they received. Kennedy=democrat, Reagan=republican. Who wins in the media and consequently with the people? The democrat=ALWAYS 🙄
that one needs to be explored because the first movie even thought it was fairly successful only explored a glimpse of her life. I am sure around this time in 5 years we'll get jackie kennedy's years as an onassis wife and perhaps before that we'll get tv show about her years a.s a doormat.
Why is Ben here? I'd thought he'd finally quit and gone off anywhere but here. It's a little bit of a joke to even have his name associated with the show, like having a guest actor who gets name credit but never shows up anywhere and nobody can really recall doing anything. Auto thumbs down.
Joshua Loftis off the top of my head I have no idea, but someone with a way wider face for one. see the thing with pictures like this is, they're oscar bait, so an established actor goes for the role. if it were a bio of Jackie Kennedy, one that existed because we didnt already have many and needed it, they'd pick an unknown who actually looks like her and gives off her vibe.
Conner Nielsen What! Are you out of your damn mind, pal! The score is riveting, and hauntingly beautiful to hear! One of the years best and my favorite of the year. I thought this should have won the Oscar, not La La Land!
It seems everyone loved it, and I'm glad people got something out of it; but the score, like every other creative choice in Jackie, just didn't click with me. I respect it for being unique, but it did not work for me at all
Joshua Loftis it's fantastic. Even if the dialogue in a scene doesn't interest you, all the other elements are constantly working, especially the music and visuals
Joshua Loftis it's my second favorite movie of the year so far (seen over 70) and one that I will definitely get on bluray and watch a few times a year
GeValero You must be out of your damn mind, pal! The score is riveting, and hauntingly beautiful to hear! One of the best; and my favorite of the year; which I thought should have won the Oscar, not La La Land.
At first I was thinking that Natalie Portman is way too young to be playing Jackie Kennedy, and then I looked it up and Natalie Portman is a year older than Jackie Kennedy was at the time that this takes place. Holy shit.
I've grown to love how slowly Ben talks and how he rambles lol. With his "uh's" in between he'd be a perfect pilot. His summary was so long lol
Little known fact about 'Jackie': Just 20 yrs. ago this film would've
been rejected as a t.v. movie. Now, it's an Oscar contender.
twenty years ago you weren't shit either
I'm so happy that my fellow Chilean Pablo Larrain (maybe the best Chilean director working today) is finally getting some recognition, the guy has another movie this year that already has a Critic Choice nomination for best foreign film for Neruda (fantastic film by the way), and it's one of the fronrunner for the Oscar. Want to see this so bad. Looks like a towering performance from Portman + I love Mica Levi
That is the biggest mason jar glass I've ever seen! Profoundly hipster, Christy.

Just checked, and he does not show it, there's actual footage of him but it fades to black just before the shot
It's curious how none of these three stooges talk about DIRECTING, SHOTS, PHOTOGRAPHY, COLORS, PACE... movie critics today seems like they're reviewing a book with actors... and music... Anyway. That movie was gorgeous to watch.
It was historically inaccurate
Ben!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This movie was better than I expected.
+Kay Jay - I agree. I had to see this movie because I lived through it. As a 13 year old I saw Lee Harvey Oswald killed on live TV. I don't know how, as a kid, I managed to deal with that. Ben takes two months off and to make a good first impression, he comes dressed for Sunday morning pancakes with the kids.
Didnt they use actual cameras from the early sixties to film the arrival at dallas and the tour through the white house?
lol! those images wouldn't intercut with current plus few of those remains and they are all in museums anyway. you can emulate the film grade digitally anyway.
apparently they forgot the thousand times Stone showed the Zapruder film. back and to the left...back and to the left.
I'm not quite sure how can Alonso give "Jackie" a 7.0 and "Bad Santa 2" a 6.0, and not even feel embarrassed. That's how a 12 year old would rate those movies. I know it's his opinion, but he's a movie critic ffs.
6:52 I don't think I'd ever seen somebody drink water from a jar before.
Ha, such a strange image. Why not pour it into a glass?!
Seb Fox Why not use a jar? It's used for drinks very often, especially during the summer for tea, lemonade, and other mixed drinks.
Magenta Spikes There's a coffee shop near me that has sugar on the tables kept in old syrup tins. That is also hipster shite.
These guy must have missed the "back and to the left" scene in JFK.
What? In JFK, Stone shows a close up of the headshot on the Zapruder film over and over. Remember: "back and to the left."
Usually Hyannis Port. But "It has one of the premier golf courses on Cape Cod, the Hyannisport Club" Wikipedia
I keep on waiting for her to enter a dance scene, LIKE THIS LOOKS LIKE BLACK SWAN
13:55 *lol* 😂😂😭

Natalie Portman did a very good job.
NOW DO WESTWORLD BEN
Christy is looking like my 1st grade teacher.
They still don't get that by each giving 7-7.8 they actually would be 100% on the tomato meter. It scored 8/10 on RT on average rating.
They just couldn't help themselves with taking a jab at Nancy Reagan. As soon as the review began I knew they would. On a different note, I'm glad Ben's finally back.
saw special screening of this best film of the year..riveting and Portman amazes while fillm astounds with you are there feel.
It's two words. And Natalie was great, Oscar worthy. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hyannis_Port,_Massachusetts
I totally loved it. Amazing movie.
Finally BEN is back !!!!!
This review needs a spoiler tag.
Gravitationalist its historical dawg
Did they reveal that the butler did it?
Can't wait for Melania the movie....
oh wait....
I have the same opinion on films about black slavery.
Robert Petish I'm more concerned that Hughes mental problems are being used for humour
Slavery isn't a person but a time period. Huge difference.
Still annoying and repetitive. Those films never bring anything new to the table. I get it, it was an awful time and people suffered. For how much longer can people milk this?
Tomas Barsvary I take it you won't be seeing birth of a nation then
another that looks like a great movie on limited release :(
Tom Cabler Most good movies are on limited release
I was not into this. The score was nerve grating. It didn't go into how she felt about his numerous affairs. She puts him on a pedestal and acts psychotic throughout the movie. I also did not see Jackie in Portman at all. This was a miss for me.
The Kennedy marriage was more politically based than love . So it didn’t really matter about his affairs.
What?! JFK dies?! Spoiler alert next time! Gosh!
It can be spelled either way
I think Katie Holmes was better
Bichonmommy R I havent seen either movie so I don't know. But I strongly believe Natalie's acting is leaps and bounds beyond Katie's.
I thought it was about Jackie Chan.
Ben is spot on
So basically Natalie Portman just does a terrible John Kennedy impression the entire time? I'll skip it. Who the hell decided she was a good actress anyhow? Did you even see Star Wars?!
Did you even see Black Swan, or Closer, or Léon the Professional?
This was the end of Portman.
What?
Natalie Portman has too unique a face to play Jackie convincingly. I would never be able to stop seeing Portman.
Jackie had too unique a face to be portrayed by almost anyone really. She was a very odd type of attractive. Natalie Portman is just way too attractive in a not at all odd way but she gets very close to the voice and mannerisms to make it partially believable. Agreed
she just was no beauty . she was from a wealthy family and of bearing age and that's ok. a beautiful woman she ain't never been. the only beauty in the kennedy clan was John john
Jackie had a pretty enough face, especially back in the early 60s. She was far from ugly, I will just say that.
***** lol! what was considered immaculate beauty was the likes of Polly Bergen. I remember reading enough articles from the 60s newspaper where Jackeline looks were not described favourably. The one Bouvier who was fairly good looking was her sister.
Trump loves this movie
its yuuuuudge !!!!!
Thank you for mentioning Nancy Reagan bc I see the comparison in treatment they received. Kennedy=democrat, Reagan=republican. Who wins in the media and consequently with the people? The democrat=ALWAYS 🙄
Ben only stops by for boring oscar bait reviews
Terrible movie review
Boring. Give me a Josephine Baker biopic, THAT was an interesting life.
that one needs to be explored because the first movie even thought it was fairly successful only explored a glimpse of her life. I am sure around this time in 5 years we'll get jackie kennedy's years as an onassis wife and perhaps before that we'll get tv show about her years a.s a doormat.

Portman can't act her way out of a paper bag
Natalie Portman as Jackie, is a wrong casting choice.
yep, part of what made Alonso never forget about it being Portman is that she doesnt look anything like her at all.
CarSVernon Michael Sheen doesn't look like Tony Blair but what a performance he gives as the infamous former labour leader
who would you pick?
Timothy Wilkes he looks a *tad* like Blair I think.
I. HATED. the musical score. Terrible!
Conner Nielsen
What! Are you out of your damn mind, pal!

Can't help but feel this one's gonna be total snooze fest.
the selling point is the cinematography , it is stellar. subject matter ain't.
Joshua Loftis it's fantastic. Even if the dialogue in a scene doesn't interest you, all the other elements are constantly working, especially the music and visuals
Jacob Ryan Harris okay thanks for that take. I admit, you make me a bit more curious
Joshua Loftis it's my second favorite movie of the year so far (seen over 70) and one that I will definitely get on bluray and watch a few times a year
Jacob Ryan Harris so what's your number 1 for the year?
The musical score is goddamn awful!
GeValero
You must be out of your damn mind, pal!
The score is riveting, and hauntingly beautiful to hear!
One of the best; and my favorite of the year; which I thought should have won the Oscar, not La La Land.
