The chord progressions, the harmonizations, the syncopations, the modulations, the bass, drum and keyboard grooves…even if someone else sang this song so I couldn’t recognize Jonah’s voice, I would know this is Dirty Loops. I don’t think you have to be a musician to appreciate them, but when you ARE a musician, they always blow your mind!

I've seen some clips from recent shows as well and Jonah's voice has absolutely gotten better. His voice seems a lot stronger now. I even saw a clip of him do the run at the end of 'Hit Me'. He never does that run, and he did it really well.

This song is just so gorgeous. One of the best tracks on that album, if you ask me. And I love that they got proper strings to play on it, and not just synths. Beautiful!

I always thought it sounds like real strings, Lotta, and yeah, it’s such a great sound! How did you find out?
The contrast between synth and/or strings and the other parts is just so good 😊

@@fiddlestix3025 They’ve said in interviews that they had a proper string ensemble for some of the tracks on that album, and apart from the fact that you can hear that it’s real strings, as you said, it’s also mentioned in the credits of the song, in the material that comes with the cd. All the string players are even mentioned by name in there. They sure like to make sure everyone involved get the credit they deserve. Gotta love and respect that.

@@fiddlestix3025 And now I had to go double check it with the cd, and it’s not a small ensemble either. 15 violins (my guess is 8 first and 7 second violins, but it’s not specified), 6 violas, and 5 cellos. Lovely!

Another song from this album that I would love your take on, is Die For You. The bass and drums have some really nice rhythms going on (mostly in the verses and during the keyboard solo). Such a great song.

I didn’t mean to come off too selfcentered in my quick comment - just busted and couldn’t get into “technical” details but the pure enjoyment and still wanted to thank you for your sharing, choice and timing🙏🏼💜🤗😉.
This is an absolute beauty of a song from our favorites, Dirty Loops💜❤️💚💝💖🤗.
      I love everything about it🌈🥰.
And the strings …. ohh, just play heaven down on earth - looove it🙏🏼🤗.
Like you I rrrreally appreciate Henriks bass play (always do!!😉) in this song …. to me it feels like he’s playing with an extra sensibility …. the very solid ground yet with a softness to it …. and then with a voice of its own in parts where it really supports the song and helps lifting up in a kind of “elevating to a higher low” and supporting the light, if you know what I mean?🧡💛… really beautiful and serves this song with a beautiful flavour of rock solid, yet gentle, soft and with movement and life to it💖🌈❤️.
I can’t help but hearing some Stevie Wonder sprinkle here and there …. both in Jonahs vocal, choices and runs and in small bits and pieces …. maybe a feeling from “Rain Your Love Down” eg. the ending->bridge from the 2. verse to chorus (after that amazing shift🤯🥰) - not sure, been a while since my latest listen, and the 2 songs vary, of course😉😊.
The message, dynamics, drive, changes, arrangements and everybody playing just perfectly and beautifully in this song makes me sooo happy, full of admiration and appreciation🙏🏼💜💚💛💝🤗.
And yeah, how they still are developing🤯💚🌱 ….. can’t imagine how their new music is going to be, but I for sure am excited like you all are in here!💚🌱🌈🥳🎊🎉🎈😃🤗.
Aand in the meantime, like you, find snippets from others generous sharings of recent live-concerts🤗.

Thoroughly enjoyed listening to this song together with you, Jeff ☺️
It’s one of my all time favourite songs from Dirty Loops, if there ever could be such a thing :) ‘cause they all blow my mind.
And again, you brought so many interesting observations to it, and I agree with all of them!
It’s goosebumps all the way for me, don’t quite know why but it’s definitely Jonah’s voice and how he expresses so many different emotions and colours. Also the orchestration and the way it’s arranged so that his voice always cuts through, the contrasts created by the voicing of the parts, contrasts between the legato string sounds and the rhythmical sections, the casually dropped crazy harmonies, crazy syncopations, the dynamic buildups and drops…..but most of all, in this song for me it’s Jonah, floating on top with such freedom, across all the bar lines~.
Yes, these three dudes were frigging brilliant already back then!
Lotta mentioned a real string section on this track, and I’m intrigued because this is what it sounds like to me, at least in places.
Love this song and loved your comments!
    Again, thanks man 🙏

I echo a lot of what has already been said, the chord progressions, the harmonies, the syncopation, the drums, the bass, etc…. It’s all amazing and I never get tired of hearing them. But to take all of those components, and do what they do with them, and then put it over a bossanova feel, and it still sounds cool and leaves you wanting more…that to me is amazing. When was the last time you heard a young group pull bossanova out?! Their originality and creativity are second to none.

  • @lavenderbluemama953

What a beautiful song that I missed! It still amazes me how they manage to combine the driving groove with the cinematic Disney-esque feel. I'm getting Earth Wind & Fire vibes. Like they nail one foot to the ground in the beat, with the bass & percussion, leaving you with that pulse, in the other foot, while your soul goes sailing with the vocals & keys. So many layers!
Here's a couple random DL thoughts that have occurred to me since I last commented, which are highly irrelevant, but may amuse you (or perhaps not)!
First of all, who is this person who will not call Jonah back in Hit Me?! And furthermore, is this the same person he has to ask in Follow The Light, "Why don't you just pick up the phone?!" Indeed. If Jonah Nilsson wishes to talk to you, For The Love Of God, Pick Up The Flippin' Phone! I mean really! On the other hand we now have two excellent songs to commemorate someone's lack of phone etiquette, so there's that.
Secondly my brain is still playing its game of WWJD? (What Would Jonah Do) with nearly every song I hear, which is fun, yet maddening. For a week now I've been stuck in a loop of my own, wondering what a DL remake of Copacabana would sound like with a wall of Jonah voices singing " Have a banana!"; Aron wailing away on the bongos; & Henrik bass-slapping with yellow feathers in his hair. Please. Somebody help me. I'm not even kidding.
