It might last up to eight weeks in YOUR refrigerator, but it won't last a week in mine.

The Smuggler's Cove recipe doubles the amount of sugar. So 1 part water to 2 parts sugar. This will make the syrup more long lasting, due to the high amount of sugar in it (though they also only suggest keeping it a few weeks...).
