A Hydraulic Juice Press can be very expensive. This includes the Manual or Automatic types. I decided to create a simple design using inexpensive components and to be simple to operate.
My idea is to provide a solution for people that are juicing to improve health such as on the Gerson Therapy Protocol and especially when they might not have the money to afford an expensive juice machine.
When using many Juice Machines they do not extract the remaining Juice from the Pulp and this creates a considerable waste of produce. Norman Walker developed a device that Juiced the Fruit or Vegetables and then processed the Pulp by the means of a Press. This gives the highest yield of Juice. The product is a Norwalk Juicer and is excellent machine that automates the entire process if the funds allow for such a purchase. A similar machine is the Pure Cold Press Juicer and is another excellent choice.
My system enables the user to Manually extract the Juice from the Pulp following Juicing in a Centrifugal, Masticating, Slow Juicer or similar apparatus.
It uses a cheap 2 Ton Car Jack a Cross Bar and a Base. The Pulp is wrapped in a Juice Cloth and placed in a Shallow Vessel or Pan with a block to separate the Cloth from the Jack. The Jack is operated manually and pressure squeezes the Juice out of the Pulp through the Mesh of the Juice Cloth.
Watch Part 2 to get an idea and see how the Press works.
I like the idea of making my own Tools, especially if it is a Tool that is not easily found or readily available. Handmade Tools give great satisfaction and for me it is fun knowing that I created something to help me better improve my woodworking experience.

Great job, nice presentation, no fuss or bother or annoying chatter. Was very therapeutic watching the first one, as well as educational! I notice you use a high-speed juicer here at the beginning, i read in one of the Gerson books that you should use a slow, masticating juicer, since the heat in the high-speed ones can kill the enymes in the food, anything above 40 degrees celcius kills the enzymes apparently, and these high-speed juicers get cavitation in the liquid, just a like a boat propeller in water.

Thank you Gary :) I've had this particular juicer for a few years now and I bought it before I was aware of slow juicers or a need to follow Gerson Therapy, but it has worked for me when I really needed it. I will invest in a slow juicer later as I think it will be more beneficial. We have grown almost all of our food organically for many years and I also think the quality of the produce is important. My hope is that my method helps to some degree for those that cannot afford expensive equipment. Blessing to you and all around you ॐ

My pleasure. I've been vegetarian since the age of 7 due to my Mum and stepdad being so (i'm 53 now). You really are what you eat and many people haven't fully realised it still. You've inspired me to make a hydraulic juicer now :) @@TheWoodYogi

My juicer stopped working today! I changed the fuse and still no joy, it's a sign! You've inspired me to make a hydraulic one anyway but now i have to. Ordered the bottle jack, just gotta get bits for the frame now.

@@TheWoodYogi Absolutely right. That Lalanne juicer is definitely one of the best cheap, centrifugal juicers out there, especially convenient with that huge chute where you can put whole apples in. Just don't push it too much as the motor can emit a burning smell of what seems like rubber, especially with things that are fibrous like celery. You can do celery but it just has to be a little slower. Listen to the motor. If it slows up back off. But for the price its pretty much unbeatable and will introduce many into the world of juicing.

I'm amazed by how much juice was recovered using your press AFTER it had been through the juicer!.I wonder if some of the
cake could be used to make a crusty topping on pies etc? A superb project mate and this is definitely on my to do list!!
    Take care Chris , Bram

Thank you Bram mate :) It's great for juicing berries also. Just pack them in the cloth and press the juice. We use the press cake for a lot of stuff. If it's something sweet say apple, carrot, pumpkin or beetroot, it makes a great topping for crumble. We don't use white flour or refined products like sugar etc and my wife has become so good over the years at making really healthy alternatives using different ingredients. I should start a cooking channel :D Our blessings and love mate ॐ

Yes, especially if someone is juicing organic produce as it can get expensive. The press has really saved us a lot :) ॐ

Wouldn't the press be more effective if what it was pressing wasn't so thick? I find when I hand squeeze juice pulp its just so much easier when its not more than about 1" in diameter. (You twist it to squeeze.) I can get about 25% more from an Omega single gear horizontal (model 8004). Most importantly it tastes much better than right out of the machine. Probably more nutrients. You can also put the pulp through the machine again but this is a problem with this juicer because it tends to kind of get stuck in the tube so you have to push it down with the plunger quite forcefully which pushes the juice into the auger mount which needs to be disassembled to clean (4 mounting screws). So that's not a way of extracting more juice from that juicer but it works with other juicers, especially vertical single gear ones (which are a nightmare to clean).

Definitely. But what is the lowest oxidizing food grinder or juicer out there? Many people use Champions for grinding but clearly this is a poor choice. The Omega single gear horizontals are pretty good and cheap. Twin gear juicers tend to be a headache to clean but if you don't mind that they are probably the best choice to grind.
