I used some of these cleaning methods before doing research or seeing this video. I guess I'm going the right way about it. Thanks for the useful info.
I read several articles stating that you weren't suppose to use toothpaste (too abrasive), soap's better and that alcohol is bad since it damages the guard.
I’m so glad I saw this! Just got my NTI guard yesterday (night two and I strangely love the thing lol). I asked the dentist how to clean it, and the hygienist was the one to respond “antibacterial soap and water.” I had first asked if Efferdent was okay because that’s what I used waaaay back in the day on my expander and retainer lol oddly, they said liquid hand soap and water was good enough? Crazy. I understand the alcohol deteriorating it part. But it’s crazy to think that toothpaste is abrasive too! So what are we supposed to brush with 😱😱😱
I was going to get a mouth guard but damn on top of all the issues people have getting it to fit you have to spend so much time and energy and money to clean it!
just got my dental impression yesterday and my first night guard comes in a week so i’m finding on how to take care of it. They have it in soft and hard version, i took the soft one for getting used to first.
when I put guard in my mouth is forced open and dries up and I can't sleep. Would any one have any suggestions? It cost me 100 dollars, but I think it's too thick! Like I a preparing to fight mike Tyson
Is it a top guard, my advice is the reason why you find it uncomfortable because you are aware it's there. Just. Sleep with it on relax your mouth and when you feel relaxed and you lose your mouth you will sleep in a comfortable manner.
@@janmortimer1758I was told not to use denture cleaner for the same reason - it can damage the material over time. My dental nurse literally said to use Dawn dish soap.
My dentist told me not to use toothpaste to clean my nightguard. He said it would ruin the nightguard. He said only use soap, which I don't like because my nightguard taste like soap.
Some night guards are made of a softer material that could distort or stain from long time soaking in a cleaner or mouthwash. Consult your dentist for instructions specific to the type of night guard you have.
yeah mine lasted for a month or so. Sometimes 2 months but it's very random. Sometimes less. It's the way you mould the cheap mouth guard. Sometimes I bite too hard, if you bite too hard, it won't last long lol. It's always different when you try and shape it hahaha I think they both have there pro's and con's. The custom made one is expensive. The cheap one is cheap and you can buy in bulk. Custom made just feels better and last longer. I have a custom made one a week ago and I'm loving it. Time will tell which one is better.
or you could buy a night guard kit from Walmart for about $20. The kit gives you the materials and instructions to mold the night guard material to your teeth and it's really quick and easy, it probably only takes about 4 minutes not including the time it takes to boil water.
I'm 12 and awaiting my night guard and I don't know what to expect but this a great explanation. Thank you very much
Are you still wearing it?

that's correct, I don't know why she recommends inapproppriate ways of nightguard routing care..

Some night guards show signs of wear and tear and yellow stain in about 6-12 months of use.

Why do the night guards turn cloudy? I clean mine every day and it’s still cloudy
@@FeonaLeeJones I think it’s just from the wear + stains it gets from wearing and cleaning it
@@FeonaLeeJones scrubbing with toothpaste makes the guard cloudy from micro-abrasions on the surface. It doesn’t mean it’s not clean!
@@alisaurus4224 if you read the whole comment section. Someone recommend not to use toothpaste. It creates rough areas and bateria to live in

My dentist said to use 1/5 bleach (hence 20mls bleach and 80mls water). I haven’t done it as I was reading it can damage the mouth guard.

It sounds like it's too big. I have no problem keeping my mouth closed with mine. Take it back to your dentist.

I heard you were not supposed to use toothpaste on your night guard because it can be abrasive and create little rough edges or bacteria can live…
true
Dental nurse here…true!I just use toothbrush and water daily and a polident tablet once a week.
thanks for asking ❤ I was about to use toothpaste, glad I read the comment section 🤣🤣🤣

Me to tonight 🤪
I wonder why mine says just to rinse it with cold water. By the way, it looks exactly like the one in this video
My dentist said just clean it with warm water, but it’s starting to smell that’s why I’m wondering if it needs more than just water...
@@jialinsun9703this is kinda late but do you ended up cleaning it with soap or anything?
mine smells so bad even after brushing it with toothbrush :(
Same here. WTF is going on...
How do you store it dry? How do you dry it?
I think you just air dry. Put it on a plate and air dry. Turn it round when one side is dry. Kind of like you drying your cups and plates
Just got mine today
I’ve had mine for a while and clean it before and after using it but I still get a weird smell come off of it.
have you found a solution? I got a new mouth guard so don't want it to start smelling
@@fearless6947have you found one
Anti-bacterial soap contains alcohol. Doesn't that damage the night guard? Other videos say NOT to use alcohol (mouthwash) to clean your night guard.

Why do some night guards have a greenish discoloration on one side?
I put mine in hot water before and now it doesn’t fit
does it hurt getting it fitted
No it doesn’t hurt
Why does my Night Guard have a warning not to soak in denture cleansers or mouthwash?

I wish I had a bite this well made... uff :( not in acrylic tho
Can we prescribe night guard or occlusal guard to weight lifter?
I had my guard 15 years , a good guard should last a long time.
Acrylic I too soft
Thank you ☺️ .
Thanks! Very useful information :)
Thanks for watching
She is very attractive! Does tmj inflammation pain actually ware off?
My doctor told me to keep in water if not used?? Is that correct
Your nightguard may be different materials from what she’s talking about. Best to do what your dentist recommended, but no harm in asking him about it
Do you always use gloves 🧤 for this?
This looks professional guard but the ones promoted online are basically whitening trays very weak
नाइट गार्ड और पलासिटक रिटेनर एक ही होता है क्या
oh great i have those taps i actually use it it fresh up my water bottles
Hand soap. No way would I do that.
How do you clean yours?
My dentist told me not to use Colgate
The cheap do it yourself ones don't fit very well and they don't last at all.

I don't have insurance, how much it cost me for nightguard ?

Hand soap? Eh
M keep my guard whole day in water
Is that all you do to clean it and that has worked?
Me too. I actually brush it and pop it into polident daily. Idk if that’s okay or not but haven’t had any issues.
