Wow. My touchscreen in my car has been dead for a year, and this had me fixing it inside 45 minutes. The only real sticker is the hassle of getting those two ribbon cables connected again while putting the faceplate back on the mount. A+ instructions on this video. I appreciate you guys putting this out.
I just wanted to drop you a thank you. I just replaced mine.. first time, no joy. Took it back apart, double-check every PITA connection, and success! Works like new. Thanks for the guidance!
Excellent video , your nice and slow presentation allows you to grasp the complexity of disassembly and putting back together, excellent work. Thank you.
Success! It took me an hour and 45 minutes, but I was super careful with everything and had zero problems. No strips, slips, cracked clips, or dropped/lost screws at the end of the project. I was afraid to do it for all this time for just that reason. I usually can’t get through one of these projects without damaging or losing something important. But this tutorial was impeccable. I’m so happy to be able to pair my new phone, and have the correct time in my car after 10 months of the screen being broken. I just assumed it was going to cost hundreds to fix. I spent about $55 on Amazon for the replacement screen. I had not a single problem throughout the entire process. I also had a cell phone repair kit at my disposal: that made the delicate handling of the clips and cables much easier. Thanks again…You rock!
Just wanted to reach out and say thank you for this video about the Chevy Sonic Touchscreen radio replacement. We bought a 2016 Sonic and the Touchscreen didn't work and found this video you did. Followed it to a T and now the radio Touchscreen works!!! Thank you!!!
I did 1 google search for this and your video came up. This is a perfect tutorial on how to do this. I need to do this on my mother’s car, because the touch screen sometimes but barely works and also beeps and it’s driving her crazy. I’m guessing this is the best way to do it simply because a new radio would be crazy expensive and would probably require some kind of dealer programming. Thanks for sharing.
Soooo helpful. I only replaced the digitizer itself -- not the LCD -- and this video helped me achieve 90% success, with the other 10% just being common sense (the removal of the bad digitizer from the original LCD, and the reinstallation of the new digitizer onto it). In the end, with your help and great video zoom-ins/commentary, it came out like right from the factory. SO helpful. Thank you!!
Appreciate the video and teaching! A Sonic I'm selling was purchased with this radio issue and the heat and other troubleshooting solved nothing. Only thing I would do differently is reapply some sort of adhesive as the top corners of the radio push backwards into the unit when pressure is applied and I imagine the adhesive that was there prior prevented this.
Thank you.. I was just about to spend $500 on a replacement radio until I saw this video. Ordered a replacement screen ($50 on amazon) and followed your video to replace it. All be it, there was a couple points that were not covered, I was able to easily figure it out. The new screen takes a little longer to come to life by a few seconds but works well once up and running. The kit came with a replacement ribbon, which I think was to replace the one ribbon which seemed to be a lot longer than the one on my original screen. I assembled with the longer one only because I didn't put 2 and 2 together until afterwards. I decided I wasn't going to go backwards and undo what I had already accomplished, so I assembled with the longer one making sure not to pinch it during assembly. I saw in your video that your kit also had the ribbon I'm referring to, but you didn't address it. Anyway, the radio is now working and I am a happy camper for now. Time will tell if it will hold up. Thanks again!!
If you search for the screen usually you can type exactly what you need depending on the vehicle year make model etc. For example 2013 chevy sonic screen in ebay or Amazon etc. It typically comes as just a screen and you re-use the original housing
My car has had this issue for a year now and i have only the generic channels considering it is frozen. When the car was bought 4-5 years ago the backup cam was not working do you think this will fix that also?
I just replaced mine thanks to you making this video!! Only thing, I ordered the screen you showed on eBay and mine didn’t have an adhesive strip. So, the screen moves a little when you push the screen, will that be ok?
It's not too much depending on where your located but if you know what your doing you can replace the screen in about an hour and a half to 2 hours total time.
Typically when you work on anything electrical in a car you would want to disconnect the car Battery itself so you don't blow any fuses or short any computers etc.
Hello I replaced the touch screen, it was a headache putting back everything, now it works perfectly the only thing is that the middle (center) of the screen is blue, what could have gone wrong? Thank you
I have a 2015 Sonic that I just paid to hav a factory screen put in n now it says it's locked?? Is there a way of unlocking it besides paying the Chev service tech $200 to diagnose it and waiting til August. I'm 73 yrs old n on a fixed income - I've put almost $4K in repairs in the 3 weeks I've had it!!
Did they provide you with any manuals or a security card. Typically they should unless it was a used radio then you can see if the seller had the security pin or try disconnecting the battery for 30 mins and see if that will reset it.
Shoot did the same thing still no touch, same symptoms as before Ima double check internal connections on radio again but thought for sure this was going to fix it

What search terms did you use? When I tried to find it on Amazon nothing quite right is showing up
If you search for the screen usually you can type exactly what you need depending on the vehicle year make model etc. For example 2013 chevy sonic screen in ebay or Amazon etc. It typically comes as just a screen and you re-use the original housing
Would the process be the same for a 2014 Chevy Sonic? My touch screen also has the same problem
Yes it should be the same process as they have a similar system for that year
Thank you for this video! It helped me to replace my screen so I could actually use my radio again.
You're welcome!
Hello from Montréal QC. Tank you veryyyy much, you change my life 🎉
Thank you, glad we can help!
I like how dedicated you are about teaching! 👏🙌
Thank you 🙏
My car has had this issue for a year now and i have only the generic channels considering it is frozen. When the car was bought 4-5 years ago the backup cam was not working do you think this will fix that also?
Typically the backup camera can be a bad connection in the trunk or a faulty camera.
Do you have video showing how to pop out Chevy Sparks EV? Mine Sparks EV touch screen has the exact problem
Unfortunately we don't have the spark yet but will work on seeing if we can get one in to post a video
I just replaced mine thanks to you making this video!! Only thing, I ordered the screen you showed on eBay and mine didn’t have an adhesive strip. So, the screen moves a little when you push the screen, will that be ok?
It should've had an adhesive strip but typically it should be ok as long as the screen is never pressed on too firmly
You don't need to take the pocket corners off. There's just enough space to get a little prying tool in partway up the sides and get you started.
Thanks for the feedback
where can i purchase this screen im in cape town
How do I maintain my factory in built USB in the glove compartment with an aftermarket double din headunit
Depending on the head unit sometimes there are adapters you can purchase to maintain factory options
Do you have a shop near Texas where I can go for your company to do mine ? I am having the same issue with my Chevy Sonic
No sorry we're located in clearwater, FL
Did you have a link to the one that you purchased?

My screen just went out and I have a 2015 Sonic. How much does it cost to get installed?
about $50
It's not too much depending on where your located but if you know what your doing you can replace the screen in about an hour and a half to 2 hours total time.
In the very beginning when he said “disconnect the battery” did he mean disconnect the car battery ? Or just make sure the car is turned off
Typically when you work on anything electrical in a car you would want to disconnect the car Battery itself so you don't blow any fuses or short any computers etc.
I did everything right and followed step by step. When I turn the car on the screen is still black. What should I do?
Hello I replaced the touch screen, it was a headache putting back everything, now it works perfectly the only thing is that the middle (center) of the screen is blue, what could have gone wrong? Thank you
Hopefully not too much pressure was applied to the screen otherwise it could be a faulty new screen
Hi, could you share the link for the parts?

Ima double check internal connections on radio again but thought for sure this was going to fix it
Yes I'd make sure everything is tight and all connections are correct etc.
I have the same issue with a 2016 Chevy Trax, touch screen non functioning.
Most likely it's the screen that has gone bad, it is best to replace the screen or whole unit
I did everything as instructed but when I turn the car on the screen goes white. The radio turns on but the screen won’t come in
What year is this sonic?
This was a 2015 Chevrolet sonic
After installing mine, the screen is just white :( it doesn’t do anything.
It could be a loose or bad connection somewhere or you could've received a bad screen from the manufacturer
2 miuntes of comercials 1 1/2 minute video. nice.
Sorry, I'm not controlling the ads on the videos at this time, we don't even make any money from ad revenue...hope the video helped you out.
Might as well just buy an upgrade radio such bad sound
Thanks for the watch
