    Further information:
    This video reviews the SNCF French Railways' high speed train service from Paris to Bordeaux France in June 2019 on board a TGV InOui. Travel time - 2h09 (310miles / 499 km)
    This Oceane type train sets were introduced in 2017 and put a focus on comfort and connectivity. The WiFi was pretty good indeed but
    lacked in terms of entertainment content. The TGV Océane train seats 556 travellers (158 in 1st class and 398 in 2nd class). There are four wheelchair spaces
    First class seats can be turned to face the direction of travel.
    Ticket booked online: www.sncf.com/fr for 103 euros
    Book up to 3 months in advance for the best fares (or tickets for the TGV InOui can also be bought from railways station in France or multi-lingual
    self-service machines)
    All TGV bookings include an assigned seat no additional check-in required
    All 1st & 2nd class fares are now changeable & refundable, free of charge until 30 days before travel,
    then for a €5 fee until 3 days before travel, then for a €15 fee until half an hour before departure
    For further information, I would recommend the ever useful "Man in Seat 61" website

    As a regular TGV user I must say I really don't care about on-board services. The structure of the TGV makes catering services impossible anyway. So I'm glad they can cut on some costs to keep ticket price at a reasonable rate.

      @@Speedbird1FLY And while it can use TGV tracks, how often does it? INOUI (and OUIGO) are their Amfleet - susidized people-movers for short distances. IT is why I want to see OUIGO-equivalents in the US. Alstom cam build them - they have the facltiies in the US to do so - the issue is Congress. They have been using AMTRAK as a whipping-boy since it was created - and unfairly at that. I suggsted towo types of new trains - Liberty Duplex (a duplexed version of Liberty) for the NEC and an Amfleet replacement, and Cascades Duplex (based on and built around SC-44 Charger) for unelectrified lines (built by SIEMENS). Yes - they can go faster - when the systems catch up; however, in the meantime, they fill an existing hole - moving lots of folks at cheap rates - which OUIGO and ICE-3 in Europe do today, and what AMTRAK's initial mission was supposed to be.

    Nice video, showing all important aspects of the trip! The cabin you in the video looks more modern than the one I had from Marseille to Paris. Good video! Patrick and I rode all over Germany and one ride from Munich to Paris on the TGV Duplex using a first class Eurorail Pass. We messed up reserving the seats on the TGV when we didn’t realize the agent booked us in economy (2nd class)! We got on the train and spoke with the staff and they told us to just take any available seats in first. Unfortunately at every stop we had the possibility of getting kicked out or move seats because of new passengers joining with seat assignments. It was not relaxing at all, and we had to change seats about 3 times during our journey.

    • @Speedbird1FLY
      @Speedbird1FLY  4 года назад

      Very annoying and not much chance to relax. As well as the extra hassle to move the bags. Did you have any at seat service? I heard that the high speed trains between Paris and Switzerland have such services. I know the Eurostar does in first class

      If you see this comment…..I am so torn in deciding to do Paris to Munich by train or plane. The cost is $95 for first class train, and $112 for Lufthansa flight. 5.5 hours vs 1.5 hours. Is the train worth the extra travel time. Can you give me any pros and cons? I’m from the US, so I’ve never taken a euro train before. I’m just trying to decide if an extra 4 hours in travel time, would give me any benefits on the train.

    I am a regular user of this service when travelling between north of UK and St Jean de Luz/Ciboure. My observation are:-
    (i) Montparnasse is the worst terminal in Paris by a distance making Gare du Nord seem like a haven of efficiency, tranquility and design excellence .... ! Not to mention the lengthy hike from the metro (slightly reduced by using RER B to Denfert Rochereau then M6 to Montparnasse rather than M4 direct from Gare du Nord with a 700m marathon at the end usually enlivened by the regular failure of the moving walkway!)
    (ii) 1st class is worth the small premium for the extra comfort but is not comparable with Eurostar or LNER for catering (reflected in reduced price differential). I usually buy a sandwich and drink from Paul at Montparnasse (but never go to Monop Daily - there is a reason why there is rarely a queue ... )
    (iii) I always choose lower deck as it is much quieter since the upper deck contains the path to the cafe-bar while each lower deck cabin is a sealed unit. There is nothing much to see outside so a marginally reduced view is no great sacrifice.

    • @Speedbird1FLY
      @Speedbird1FLY  4 года назад

      Tim - thank you for your very valuable feedback and all my best wishes for 2020. I endured the lengthy metro connections during a previous trip to Montparnasse station so I opted for a bus journey when I travelled last June. Quite pleasant! (and just as quick considering the long walkways)
      I would agree about the overall feel of that station -it's rather poor and reminds me of Euston station.
      Really good point about the lower deck cabin. I didn't think about it. I chose a carriage at one end of the train for a quieter ride. Last time I took the TGV it was from Gare de Lyon to the Med. The view was much more enjoyable.
      Time to plan future trips :-)
