I studied in Bordeaux for a few years, and I have to say, he nailed it....apart from one major point. There is a LOT of tourists, and I mean a lot if you come during the summer season. So keep that in mind if you don't want to be drowned in a crowd!

@@si_quest I was living in the city centre, and I never felt unsafe. Same goes for friends that lived in other areas. Maybe my experience would have been different had I lived in other parts of the city. However, I've never heard that Bordeaux was an unsafe place. If you go there as a tourist, you will probably mainly stay in the centre anyway.

Yeah, I noticed that it's been to go to France during to colder seasons rather than the warmer season from what I gathered. When I was there in the fall, tourism in Paris was still bad but not as bad as summer from what I heard.

If you mention "a lot of tourists", try the Côte-d'Azur in the summer? No comparison! After Paris, Bordeaux is my favourite city and Arcachon bay, the paradise of my youth.

I've France one time, but I stayed only in Paris. I plan on returning in 2023 as the country is hosting the Rugby World Cup (cross my fingers nothing crazy happens by then)!!!! After watching this video, I'll be sure to check out Bordeaux. I'll be touring a lot of France this time around rather than the last time. Thank you for posting this video!!!!! TGV two weeks advance purchase Paris to Bordeaux is $50 1st Class, $20 standard with arrival 10AM. Bordeaux to Paris is $50 arriving 9PM. Yes indeed you should stay longer but a mid-week day trip from Paris is doable and cheap. If you want to enjoy some of the world's best wines in region, a day-trip is definitely an option. 🇫🇷🍷👍

I used to have a bad impression of France in terms of pickpocketing, having lost a camera to an attractive couple making out on a train (classic) but, in Bordeaux, I left my phone in the park, and a cool youngster for whom I had just played a song biked half a mile up the riverwalk at night to return it to me. France has all sorts, and Bordeaux is a particularly friendly place.

We were pleasantly surprised by Bordeaux. Easy to get around by tram or walking. Great food scene. Nice location by the river. We took a train to Arcachon and then a bus to the dune - very easy day trip, you don't need to drive. And re the water mirror at the Place de la Bourse - I think the light is better in the morning when the sun is shining on the buildings.

Haussmann was the governor of the Bordeaux province, the town with its typical open architecture, large avenues and building styling was his inspiration for the Parisian style he created when Napoleon III called him to remodel Paris... the famous Haussman style.. without Bordeaux there would be no Paris as you know it today.

Bordeaux has the look and feel of a warmer, sunnier Paris. All that 18th Century stone and river-setting, you could be forgiven for thinking the first few Parisian arrondissements had been dragged 200 miles south. Bordeaux clearly is lovely; open, but with a manageable feeling of ‘see all my important bits in a day’. All it really lacked was a core of tightly packed narrow streets opening out onto a few squares and perhaps a nice Plaza Mayor centrepiece. Everything seemed like I was wandering around the French version of Edinburgh’s New Town when I wanted a bit of tumbledown Old Town magic too!

I'm from Bordeaux and I must disagree about the public transport being convenient. Yes it gets you anywhere around the city, but it's always crowded like a cattle wagon. Also, don't use a car, there are trafic jams everywhere in the city and on the Rocade (highway) around it and you'll take hours to make a few kilometers. Best way to move in Bordeaux is by bike !
There is a lot of tourists everywhere, and not a few, especially on the docks where you are it's always crowded with tourists in the summer. If you went there in summer of 2020 there was nobody, be it tourists or locals because of Covid restrictions.
Also, there are some neighborhoods where you better not act like a tourist (for example don't take pictures and videos, especially if you are filming people, it's illegal to take pictures of and film people without their authorization in France and we also very much dislike that for the majority). Be careful whenever you go in the neighborhood around St Jean trainstation and in St Michel.

It may be that people were overly friendly to you coz they know your channel and wanted to get good ratings
People are not unfriendly there but they are historically cold for some of them are aristocrates or bourgeois... and that's generally the spirit in this "grey" stone-worked city. Toulouse the red-brick pink city is widely known to be way more jovial and laid back. Saint-Catherine is indeed a successful urban redevelopment as is the mirroir d'eau. The boat musuem is also interesting. Other nice spots in the vicinity are the Gironde estuary (Pte-de-Grave). On the way there is an almost uninterrupted stretch of millesime producing vineyards bording the Garonne. Then there's Gujan Mestras a cute fishing village with colourful cabins and oyster beds, Arcachon a massive water bassin flanked by the dunes du Pila.

Wow I wanted to visit Bourdeax for the vineyards, but now I can’t wait to visit that beautiful city! I hope by October 2021 I would be able to plan a trip to France, right now my country is banned from entering the European Union :(

Hello, I would like to ask this through your channel that I have a best friend who lives in Bordeaux France. Whereas she has disappeared from all social media now I only have her number but I can't connect from my country. Could you please tell me how can I get her address. Who can help me in this ?

Do you speak French? Is only speaking American a hindering quality? I'm taking a surprise trip there in September and will be by myself a lot of the time, so I am nervous.

After reading the comments and seeing your video I am thinking that I am doing something wrong 😆. Because I am in Bordeaux right now for almost 2 weeks and I really feel like I am getting bored. I am not really into wine so vineyards are not a thing for me. I really don't understand some restaurants that are open only for dinner or a few hours per day. But maybe I am going to the wrong places 😆
