'Filler' is defined by its stagnation of the story, not the progression of it. After the conversation just before about being "invaders on their land", those people were probably local guerilla fighters resisting the Empire. Just the kind of people who would normally be on Mando's side there. It fits with the theme of the story about the lines between friend and foe being blurry. My favourite detail in this episode is that pause after Mayfeld shoots Hess. It feels so real that there's seconds where the other Imperials just can't process what just happened.
Why did Mayfeld do it? That was the officer who ordered the bombardment that killed thousands of innocent civilians and the troopers he close with. It entailed the use of weather satellites to destroy loyal Imperial worlds so that in the chaos, no other order could be established. Many Imperials defected after this. So if you didn't defect after either the Death Star blowing up Alderaan or Operation: Cinder, then you were a committed soldier of the Empire and thus pure evil. •What Mayfield did was avenge his brothers in arms who were killed pointlessly by the Empire during Operation: Cinder. •Fitting that those words end the 7th episode of another season.
"She looks 30". Ming-Na Wen is 57. Yeah, I couldn't believe it either. And Fennec appears in the new Bad Batch trailer, which takes place right after Order 66, around 28 years before Mandalorian. She's already an adult there.
I was wondering how young she was going to be in the Bad Batch, but I didn't realise how old she was now, so it makes more sense now that she was an adult back then.
Great Episode! You learn SO much more about Mayfield, and I like the link to Operation Cinder from Battlefront 2. Mayfield obviously had Comrads close to him that died during operation cinder, and gives a lot of backstory into why he is how he is!
I thought it was clever not showing Grogu in this episode because it gives the audience the same sense of him missing from our lives the same as he’s missing from Mando’s life. The whole idea of “where is he and is he alright” that must be on everyone’s mind.
The fight scene on the top of the Imperial transport reminds me of those classic Western fights on top of moving trains. Bill Burr was great with his emoting and made his character sympathetic. Great seeing Slave 1 and Boba again. The two strong women were fantastic. Very reminiscent of the deadly female Soviet snipers from WW2. The Mandalorian doing whatever it takes to get Grogu back. And that ending...👏
Lol I also thought of that Shrek song when I saw the title. You're right that fight on the transport really was like a game sequence, then a cut scene when you reach the bridge! That poor stormtrooper just carrying his tray of food did not deserve that lol. I just knew they were going to have Boba use that seismic charge after he started climbing so abruptly. Such a cool weapon, glad we got to see it again.
So true what you said about Mayfeld. It deepened his character and made him more believable. The conflicts in his psyche, and anger towards the empire and himself no doubt for what he contributed to previously. One of my favorite episodes this season. Great reaction. 👍
Thanks, Mary! ✨ Indeed, the arc 'Migs Mayfeld' went on was completely unexpected... and satisfying. I'd say those pirates were more technically insurgents. And it's true, Ming-Na Wen is 57 years old! She works out regularly... and, while she doesn't hold a firm diet, she does incorporate more vegetables and fruits than average meal-plans. 🏆
Dude I didn't even realize that Mando's message at the end was a reiteration of Moff's speech to Mando, until you said it. God I love this show so much. Great reaction 👌🏽
I love the question mayfield brings up "is it you cant take off your helmet, or you cant show your face. cuz there is a difference" which is true as hell. On one side you cant take off your mandalorian helmet because its a respect to the creed and its your way of paying homage to your culture. But if its you cant show your face then the reason becomes people cant see me or know who i am. Which makes you shrouded in secrecy and removes you honoring your people and culture. It becomes a selfish reason for wearing the helmet instead of an honorable one
I think what Mayfield was saying was more of a societal commentary than it was a religious thing. Not everyone on Mandalore or Alderaan where religious but they did all have their own beliefs and values but at the end of the day. How valuable are those things to you truly when they are the only thing holding you back from doing something more important. It's like how the people from that town in Tatooine hated the Raiders, their likely generations old beef is something they believe to be justified and important but when faced with a greater problem that belief could be left behind. Mayfield is honestly a really interesting character because he acts like he doesn't care about anything but the way he talks reveals that he's actually really introspective. Him killed that Admiral that massacre'd his unit show how much he values the human life, even being an outlaw. He cares, it pissed him off that that asshole could try to justify that disregard for human life and then play it off as a victory. Shooting him wasn't smart but it made sense.
I love how the episode made you root for the Empire. For a short time. Once you get to the Mess Hall scene you realize those dudes that attacked them weren’t pirates. They were freedom fighters. Giving there lives to try and stop the Empire. Goes back to what Migs was talking about. It’s all about perspective.
This shows how much Grogu means to him if he was willing to forsake the Mandalorian Creed, the belief that he's held sacred ever since he was a boy Foundling, especially as a Child of the Watch 😔😭.
Fennec's actress, Ming-Na Wen, really is fifty-plus years old. She did the voice for the main character in the original animated "Mulan" back in the late 90's and has been in a ton of movies and shows since then, so that should tell you more or less how old she really is. Also, the imperial officer who questions them is the same guy who played the Night King in Game of Thrones.
Yeah the actress who plays Fennec, Ming-Na Wen, is 57. She was also the voice of Mulan in the classic animated movie, she played Chun Li in the so bad it's good Street Fighter movie, and most recently played Melinda May in the series Agents of Shield
7:56 So the Red Viper of Dorne and the Night King are sitting at a table having a drink... ... and Bill Burr pulled focus from both. Can someone at Disney get this guy his own show?
I think people misunderstand what a filler episode is. If I remember correctly in traditional TV series terms, filler episodes were actually episodes that were written by other writers and typically had nothing to do with the over arching story. In some cases they were strictly to introduce new characters or to try to build some character development, but most 'filler' episodes did not progress the story itself. However, when good writers create a series you can't call an episode a filler episode until after the whole season or series is done, because a good writer might prove to you that what you thought was a filler episode actually wasn't a filler and actually and integral part of the overall story arch. Great reaction video!
Hi, Mary! It was the BILL BURR show this week on "The Mandalorian"!!! Lol. Yes, Mary, it is true that Hollywood vet and Disney princess Ming-Na Wen is an ageless 57 years old! She was born in Macao in 1963. Boba Fett's ready for the ball! He simonized his armor and gave it a fresh coat of paint! Mayfeld requires a terminal to locate Gideon's cruiser and the nearest is at a secret Imperial rhydonium refinery on Morak. Rhydonium's destructive potential was amply demonstrated in the D-Squad arc of "Clone Wars"! See The Lady Powerhouse, Cara Dune, singlehandedly pummel two Tank Troopers out of commission! Keeping the volatile rhydonium stable by maintaining a low speed is a film reference to Henri-Georges Clouzot's 1953 "Wages of Fear" in which volatile nitroglycerin is transported by Yves Montand over a treacherous, unpaved mountain road! Mayfeld's monologue about moral relativism and the lack of impact regime change has on those being ruled not only reveals a great deal about Mayfeld's practical nature but is a film reference to the old timer's monologue in Mike Nichols' 1970 "Catch-22" in which Art Garfunkel is schooled about fascism, democracy and the fall of all empires! Rip-roaring action sequence that reveals three things: plastoid armor is garbage, Din don't need no beskar and the so-called "pirates" were actually guerilla fighters who were destroying the shipments rather than stealing them! That last sobering point means Din slaughtered anti-Imperial rebels for the sake of Grogu. The Imperial rescue that has us rejoice with the Empire is a film reference to Wolfgang Petersen's 1981 "Das Boot" in which you cheer with the World War II German sub crew you come to know intimately every time they score a victory against the Allies! MONUMENTAL MOMENT: Din removes his helmet in public violating Death Watch creed for the sake of Grogu which denotes a major shift in his thinking! BIG QUESTION: Was the terminal just acknowledging a human face with no Republic credentials, does Din have Imperial credentials from his time as a bounty hunter or do Guild credentials grant you access to Imperial databases? The tense scene between Mayfeld and Valin Hess not only revealed the psychopathy of the titular 'Believer' and his upper echelon Imperial ilk but is a film reference to Quentin Tarantino's 2009 "Inglorious Basterds" in which Brit spy Michael Fassbender and Nazi Major August Diehl have a tense stand-off over Scotch in a French tavern. Valin Hess was chillingly played by Richard Brake who was The Night King in "Game of Thrones"! Yikes! 'Operation: Cinder' is from the "Battlefront" video game and canon comics. It was Palpatine's contingency plan to raze Imperial worlds as punishment for failing to defeat the Rebellion in the event of his death. Satellites were placed in orbit over designated worlds which would disrupt weather patterns cataclysmically. Billions of loyal Imperial citizens and troops were sacrificed to Palpatine's capricious vanity which caused many Imperials to defect. Mayfeld's act of defiance by shooting Hess and destroying the rhydonium was a thing of beauty. The ultimate pragmatist found a moral line he could not cross without losing sleep. Boba Fett unleashes a seismic charge last seen used by Jango in "Attack of the Clones"! Love that pregnant pause before the blow! Din trades off the tactical advantage of surprise to intimidatingly deliver Gideon's own speech back at him. Supremely satisfying but, perhaps, a strategic misstep? This layered and exciting episode was directed by Rick Famuyiwa who directed the Mudhorn and prison break episodes last season.
Yeah, it was basically the "scorched earth" policy that Hitler ordered when he realised he was losing (which his generals, fortunately, mostly disobeyed, though whether from moral conviction or from fear of post-war tribunals is a question).
Billy Spaceballs Burr has solidified the character of Mayfield as a Star Wats legend. His acting was next level and I hope that isn't the end of Mayfield's story arc. Jon Favreu knew and knows what he's doing and his brilliance was shown by casting BB. (I would sign the petition for a Disney+ show called, Mayfield Imperial Outlaw) I had a dream that Mando saves Grogu. Mando lifts Grogu and Grogu says his first words.... Din?!?
Well technically..Mando didnt remove "his" helmet in front of others...he removed the trooper helmet...he removed his helmet in solitude while changing which i think is allowed...so technically Mando didnt broke the rules.....i dont think the rule is you can't show your face to anyone...its you cannot remove your helmet or let it be removed by others...there's a big loophole there..LOL
I 100% agree about filler episodes being important. A show is only as good as its filler episodes. Also, sometimes things that people dismiss as filler episodes turn out to be important later on. This episode really played with our perspectives and expectations. Those "pirates" weren't pirates at all; you're right, pirates steal stuff, they don't just blow it up. Those guys were locals who wanted the Empire off their planet, I'd bet. All they saw were two more Stormtroopers stealing resources from their planet and they wanted to make enough trouble for the Empire so the Empire just gave up on their world. And then you have TIE Fighters swooping in heroically to save the day while triumphant music swells in the background, and then BOBA FETT of all people comes in clutch, flying in with Slave One to rescue the good guys? As a long time Star Wars fan it was all really weird, but I didn't even realize it until afterward because I was so caught up in the action of the moment.
Not exactly filler since it serves the plot and lays important details. Still, I'd label it filler donr right. Great reaction, Mary! Can't wait to join you here again for the finale!
Here's a plot hole for you; if Mayfeld was so important to the mission, why did the Imperial database recognize Din and grant him access to the system when he removed his helmet? This was supposed to be a secret Imperial mining facility, so only those with Imperial clearance should have been able to access the system, which is why they brought Mayfeld since he was former ISB.
They didn’t recognize him. The point of the scan was to make sure they weren’t wanted or an enemy of the empire. He’s never shown his face to anyone so there’s no information about him on the database that would lock him out of the terminal or set off an alarm.
Yeah, Ming-Na Wen was born two days before John F. Kennedy was shot, making her 57 years old. I know this because I'm nine days older than her. She looks a lot younger than I do.
Apparently everyone loves the season 2 finale, but this is my favorite episode by far. Nothing has hit me in the feels as hard as Mando's threat to Moff Gideon.
So imperial armor is actually quite good, anyone wearing it that gets shot has the heat of the blast dispersed and the person is usually, at worst, knocked out. Problem is that the rebels made their weapons to specifically be able to penetrate said armor, making the armor kinda pointless against rebels.
The whole point of the episode is yin and yang. The good and the bad. Mayfield said the Republic and the Empire were the same, but he was wrong. There was good in the Empire and bad in the Republic, but the Empire had much crueler views. This episode is all about proving the Empire was evil, but the Republic also had some bad in it.
If you think about it. Those Pirates might be the local rebels or resistance fighting a guerrila war against the Imperial remnants. Disney just censored that to “Pirates” so we wont feel bad about the good guys like Mando killing them. Even if it was for self defense
You know I actually like the fact that they had an episode with Grogu not in it. I wanted to see if there was an episode that people enjoyed without the child in it, because Grogu was pretty much the only thing that people would talk about. For me this was one of the better episodes of the series and it gives me hope that the series could continue even if the Mando leaves the child with a Jedi.

This episode showed that Mayfeld _does_ have a heart, as well as honor 🎖😄. Plus he really _is_ a sharpshooter 👍.
"I'm a believer" lol I thought of this song too xD
Then I saw Mando's face, now I'm a believer.
I thought of child Mary watching Shrek 🤣😘
He's gonna get Grogu back,
Not a trace of doubt in my mind.
I gotta be honest, I didn't miss him one bit during this episode. It finally made us focus on Din as a character again.
I'm really glad to go back thru your catalog to watch your reactions 🥰
I can only Imagine how pissed off Grogu is going to be when he realized Gideon blew up the Razor Crest.
Yes all Mando has to do is NOT reveal to Grogu that the control knob is saved, and Moff is TOAST!
well he still has that little silver gear knob to play with, so he'll be okay.
@@mikell5087 Nah he should give it to him and then let Grogu Magneto that shit right through Gideon's skull.
I like that that no living thing has seen Mando without his helmet since Mayfeld is now classified "dead." Really cool episode and great reaction!
Dude I didn't even realize that Mando's message at the end was a reiteration of Moff's speech to Mando, until you said it. God I love this show so much. Great reaction 👌🏽
I mean they literally replayed it at the beginning of the episode when Gideon said it lol
7:02 You can see the horror and discomfort on Din's face 😰😔.
Two of my favorite lines are in this episode:
"Let's just say they might recognize my face."
and
"We all need to sleep at night."
Ming-Na Wen is a beautiful ageless goddess.
Mayfeld killed everyone in the room that saw mando’s face
Your eye makeup is absolutely mesmerizing
You know what this is the the first high ranking imperial I've heard with a heavy southern accent.
I've seen you go from "Who is Dark Vader?" to "Oh Shit, that's a seismic charge from Ep II" - Very impressive :)
I love that Bill burr is in the mandolorian he's funny as hell in here
Ming Na Wen (Fennec Shand) is 57!! 🤯🤯🤯
In the radio drama of Star Wars, Han also complained that the stormtrooper armor he stole also smelled inside. 😄
Ming-Na Wen aka Fennec was born in 1963 so she is 57! And she still kicks ass, check out Agents of Shield :)
Loved seeing bill burr show off his acting chops
Yep she's 57
"I really fucking like him now...."
This is the sort of quote that needs to be on blue ray boxes.
I really liked this episode. Amazing. Love your video.
Ming-Na Wen is actually 57. She is awesome and gorgeous.
Mary's eye makeup is on point in this video.
It was great seeing (and hearing) the Slave I jettisoning seismic charges again! 💥
If you have never had to deal with PTSD, then you will have a difficult time understanding Mayfield.
To understand Meyfeld’s PTSD you should look into Operation Cinder. You’ll understand why he snapped.
Yeah, it was basically the "scorched earth" policy that Hitler ordered when he realised he was losing (which his generals, fortunately, mostly disobeyed, though whether from moral conviction or from fear of post-war tribunals is a question).
Still my favorite episode of the series
Fennec is Ming-na Wen, she is 57, married with 2 teen children. She played Agent May on Agents of Shield
I didn’t really like mayfeld season 1. Now I love him
He looks defeated when he is without his helmet, that’s why I don’t understand cheering, when it happened I too felt defeated with him
*screen pans to Kara*
- I’m LOVE
Billy Spaceballs Burr has solidified the character of Mayfield as a Star Wats legend. His acting was next level and I hope that isn't the end of Mayfield's story arc. Jon Favreu knew and knows what he's doing and his brilliance was shown by casting BB. (I would sign the petition for a Disney+ show called, Mayfield Imperial Outlaw)
I had a dream that Mando saves Grogu. Mando lifts Grogu and Grogu says his first words.... Din?!?
I had a Firefly/ Reavers vibe with the whole fight between Mando and the pirates.
As Mary reacts herself to death... Choke... That's dedication.
Nice blue lights it match the background of the wall Miss Marry 😁👍
Bill burr basically plays himself in everything and I’m all for it
Not exactly filler since it serves the plot and lays important details. Still, I'd label it filler donr right.
Great reaction, Mary! Can't wait to join you here again for the finale!
According to the internet, any episode that doesn't have a celebtrity cameo of a popular character is filler. lol
The imperial officer also was the Night King in GOT
And he killed batmans parents.
The actor who plays Fennick is better know as Melinda May from Agents Of Shield, she also played Chung Li in the 90's Street Fighter movie
Ming-Na Wen is 57 years old, so Fennec Shand being in her 50s is totally believable.
Mod Gideon said his message in season 1 episode 7
Mando threw it right back at him in season 2 episode 7.
Ming Na Wen is 57 mate, is so freaking bonkers how good she looks.
Ming-Na Wen does look really good for her age, she's 57 almost 60.
