Jesus this is is so good but in context really dark to witness when following the time line of Johns 2018 this year.. He got a really talented crew together to finally make live sets more traditional and easier for himself. He gets to tour with his beloved brother as a band mate and was married to some Polish artist . Then... He announces in a reddit ama his wife left him, and then John's brother sadly dies some time later(RIP Joe.) Bless this man for having the emotional endurance to still tour and perform for his adoring fans All this context makes his performance here even stronger and emotional.. These performances must be very therapeutic and cathartic for him and his soul.
Her ex-wife Kika Karadi is hungarian. He is a really strong human being, I am surprised he still is touring, I saw him three times with his band and then I saw him play solo in Bilbao. It was hard to see him without his brother and the band, but I'm proud he still plays live. I got to meet Joe a week before his death, it was horrible to wake up to the news of his sudden death... I think John is still processing the loss somehow. Godspeed!
I've never seen him live and hope I can, but what I love about his shows is that it seems like a guy who brought his own songs on a usb to a local karaoke night and sings his guts out for his own personal catharsis
I discovered John while going through one of the toughest times of my life. “Do Your Best” came on my Spotify radio while I was walking through a cold winters street feeling hopeless and lost. It felt like a warm embrace that provide unexpected comfort when I needed it most. I went home to watch one of his performances and was moved beyond words. John, you are a beautiful artist and I wish you peace through the pain...
I can feel you on this - I got into John Maus last year during one of my darkest times in my life and My Whole World's coming apart literally saved my life - I owe a lot to him.
The 'And Heaven Turned to Her Weeping' performance was extremely heart wrenching to watch considering all the context, like wtf man, actually painful. Love you so much John
@@speedick4259 his wife left him and his brother died suddenly while on tour with him in a very short time span. This show was only a few months afterwards.
I watch this daily, from beginning to end. I'm not kidding. This is my favorite live performance of all time. And it's just a man with his backing track. But it's so real and so visceral, so cathartic and so fitting for my reality. Thanks John Maus, nothing matters when I listen to this performance, I wish I could witness it live.
His performance is spectacular. He transmits a social detachment like attitude and a slaming self sufficiency that sums up into something I can relate to. His way to awkwardly show emotions is by definition a rebellious act against this normal world and I see much of the same in me.
Or: maybe he is just the best performer ever. And definitely not autistic (autism wouldn’t even fit at all here). Read the interviews. He is just a very intense performer plus a very gentle and calm person if you meet him. If one thing could be said about John is that he could be more confident of his amazing work. He is a very humble person
i love how everyone who's seen him live all have the same experience, he's 1000% the whole time non-stop POWER. greatest performer ive ever seen hands down. Powerful powerful powerful powerful
Anyone else here also looking forward to seeing John live in Dublin this September? I still can't believe I'll finally see/hear him live, it's like a fecking dream
You can tell he's experiencing the music faaaaaaar more than anyone in the audience could hope to, what an incredible performer. The definition of pouring your heart out
Just one of the absolute greatest performances I've ever seen. I saw him twice that same year, at primavera and roskilde fest, roskilde i believe was Joe's last performance as John's bassist. Both times were extremely cathartic for me, but this performance is something else. Seeing him all alone on that vast stage performing his guts out is just so so revelatory. I don't care about many artists beyond their musical output, but i really hope John is doing good these days, he has given us so much.
I love his energy, it must be so cathartic to perform like he does. Wish he did a live album, his screaming vocals fit his songs really well... I love the studio version, but the live performances have an extra liberating wrath that I really like.
How many people puts that much of themselves into their shows,? Maybe Deathgrips, maybe Tearist? When they were a thing. Ian Curtis when he lived, yep that's it.
I regret so much up to these days that I missed his concert in New York a few years ago. I couldn't make it there on that day. I really hope he will give more concerts in the near future. What a genius John is.
Whenever I see him live I want to cry. I feel alone in the world. It reminds me of my own experience on stage, especially the improv related things I’ve done.
Intriguing ecclectic mix of smiths morrisey, the cure, Ian Curtis from joy division, serge from kasabian,? …Anyone come up with another mix of their own ? 😎
Hmmm... I got a strange allusion. His amazing weird style of performance and hypnotizing hyperenergy very similar to russian musician Petr Mamonov (look for "звуки му консервный нож"). Both of them like a shamans at mysteria)
I never thought of that but this comparison does make sense... only Mamonov was on an obvious self-destructive path so a bit more extreme than John in that sense, but both are emotional/cathartic powerhouses
You think his music is fun, watch a few interviews. The day I start feeling like I am "getting inside his head", so to speak, is the day I am heading to the hospital.
