      Yes, is a very good one. The engineer on the truck should have increased the pressure for him to work safer. in fires like this 150 PSI at the nozzle is better.

    • @KillerTruffle
      @KillerTruffle 4 года назад +6

      @@tanyab2646 I wouldn't say moron, but he's not going to put out a fire that intense with a 1.5 inch hose. The heat is far too intense. Assuming they only have water from the tank on their engine, I would have personally conserved that water to keep cooling the house down and let the brush burn around it. Spraying into the brush made for good TV, but you could see he made basically no impact with all the water he put on it. Save that water to cool the house and put out anything that lands on it, cool the sides, etc.
      And as for 150 psi at the nozzle, that isn't a "rule." Different nozzles operate most efficiently, and have the most water flow, at different pressures. The nozzle pressure should be whatever the specific nozzle calls for, not just 150.

      It looked like he was fighting WITH the fire! Like squaring up to fight a person who is violent or something. Truly impressive. I suppose that's why they use the term "battling" and "fighting" a fire. This video sure looked weird tho, was this part of a training mission?

      They should have access to design engineers to help them implement their inventive ideas for what is needed to help fight the fires. They have a collective body of intellectual property worth billions. Wish I could talk to them. What's wrong with opening some bottles of nitrogen that the welders use to weld with. As long as the wind is blowing why not make it blow out the fires instead of just feed oxygen to them?

If you listen to the firefighters at one point, they make decisions to let the fire burn itself out in certain situations. zepbigfoot bearcove , when there’s a drought for years and years over thousands and thousands of square miles and laws stating how much water you can use , each land owner can only do so much and all the agencies involved don’t have the resources needed to keep up.... that’s reality! Plus PG&E neglected their duties and the fires started because of them... look it up! Google: California fires and PG&E !

      zepbigfoot bearcove it was causes by a campfire, which is why it's named the campfire. I agree with clearing brush and dead leaves but cutting trees down isn't going to help unless they're dead. Trees make oxygen which we need to breath, its not all about global warming.

    I was assigned to 120+ wildland fires in my U.S. Forest Service career. I want to emphasize something the Cal Fire battalion chief said at the beginning of the video. He said something like we are going to put engines on the structures that are defendable. Land/home owners are responsible for establishing and maintaining defendable space around structures. With limited resources structures in an area are triaged and resources are not sent to properties where defensible space has not been established. These are tough decisions, but pretty obvious when you have to ignore some properties. The triaging not only includes how successful efforts to save a structure might be, but also the safety of firefighters as well. Structural protection is tricky enough as it is, but sending equipment on narrow roads to properties that have one narrow road or driveway accessing it with dense overgrown native and landscaped vegetation can be a death sentence.

    • @wannabetowasabe
      @wannabetowasabe 3 года назад

      @Ramen Lover Generally you don't want to put a true fireline around a structure or property. Defensible space is a method of modifying native vegetation and planting landscaping to slow the spread of a fire prior to it arriving at a structure. Firelines, where all vegetation is cleared down to mineral soil can't do the job alone without modifying/planting vegetation in a fire defensible manner. Exposed mineral soil is a potential accelerated erosion hazard that can damage structures eventually and cause a large number of other problems.

      It's always possible that, given the speed of fires and the abrupt wind changes, some people left for work in the morning not realizing that their house might be on fire that afternoon, and didn't know that their pets would be endangered. It's also possible that the dog panicked and escaped. My grandmother loves her dogs more than anything in the world, but when she had to evacuate her house earlier this year (Holiday Farm fire, she lives near Walterville), one of her dogs panicked and ran. She didn't have the fitness or time to chase after him. Luckily a neighbor found him for her and was able to take him with him when they evacuated, but please be reassured that people are usually not being cruel or thoughtless, and it's often just not as simple as "leaving pets behind".

      ''Fire Protection''. Trust the government...We're here to help....
      So I went out and bought 600 ft of wildland 1.5'' hoses, rocker wrenches, 2-1/2 to 1-1/2 hydrant adapters, Wye splitter, fogger and straight nozzles. The fire hydrant is on my property. If there's a chance of saving my place and the neighbors, I'm putting on my turnout gear and will get the water flowing even if it kills me.
      Oh.... I have 2 aluminized Approach Suits...and helmets, 3 1990's Scott Packs, thanks eBay. Should be OK as long as the hydrants are charged. Downed power lines killed the Water District pumps up by Kenwood last year.....

I live in Ottawa, Canada and god knows I would love to give you some of ours, you get so sick of it by March. However, as it melts that much needed moisture slowly works its way into the ground helping keep drought at bay when we do have an awful, dry summer. Even then Ontario has battled forest fires but at least we are not a constant tinder box waiting to explode into flames. Take care California.

Or it ran off in the panic to evacuate and they couldn’t get it to come back. Doesn’t mean they just left it behind. Animals have a fight or flight response too. In moments of panic, the animal is going to flee to save itself. It’s not going to worry about the commands of its owner.

      When you only have seconds to leave a coming fire, sometimes yourself and your children are the most important to save. Sometimes you just don't have time to get your pet. When you gotta go, you gotta go.

      This is true, when we had a fire that was fast approaching the house...firemen telling us to evacuate *now*...we were looking for the outdoor cat but couldnt find the poor thing and had no choice but to follow orders and leave. Luckily it poured rain later when we were cleared to go back to the house...poor little bugger showed up soaking wet and we took him in and cleaned him off. So yea its not always heartless owners

      yea true i am australian and these fires are nothing and they make a big deal about it all i live in beechworth vic wich was about 10-20 km away from the fires and in 2009 when i was 2 black saturday was no more then 5 ks away.

    • @shaunconner295
      @shaunconner295 3 года назад +1

      @@colonelbeatson6027 yes Aussie fires are very bad buuut cali is worse. Bigger does not mean anything black Saturday was the largest fire ever and destroyed 3k structures in Austral but in Cali we have fires that have destroyed whole communities for example the camp fire that killed 83 people and destroyed 18k homes and businesses and destroyed 3 towns (concow,pulga and paradise) then we have the tubbs fire, destroyed 5k buildings in one night and that is more destructive then any fire in Australia’s history(I went thru the tubbs fire just FYI) then Santa Rosa got hit again after the tubbs fire just this year and that was the glass fire. So Australia has very big fires but you guys have more land then us so keep that in mind before you say your fires are worse
