when you're laid flat on your back your skull naturally rotates in such a way that your jaw remains wide open. that's why you sleep with a pillow supporting your head and why coffins have pillows also.
When someone dies, if they are given a traditional (modern) western funeral then during the preservation process they will have a mouth guard put and their mouth will be sewn shut. This is so that the mouth doesn't look caved in and also so that the mouth doesn't open, as their are not working muscles to keep it closed (so that the body looks more like it's sleeping). Obviously in this case this was not done and so her mouth ended up falling open + with decay, the muscles have been lost and the skin has dried and tightened. Making the jaw open up more.

It was very rare for women in any point in time in any era to tight lace their corset (only the rich would have done that and even THEN they didn’t do it to the point of harming themselves in anyway). A lot of people believe the myth that corsets were to oppress women and that they were very harmful when it’s not at all true. There were very rare (and I mean very rare) cases when women would tighten the corset to the point of bodily harm. Corsets were used basically as bras and while not as comfortable as the modern bra, women could work just fine and do everyday things in them. Women to this day still wear corsets every day and they are absolutely fine. This museum is helping to spread misinformation about history’s fashion and the corset. How disappointing..
There seems to be confusion in the comments, but even though Einstein’s brain was pretty much stolen for science, what they showed was definitely just a replica.

I`ve been to a similar medical/hospital museum ( i think ) outside Amsterdam during vacation last year. So many organic samples in glass containers with preservative liquid and samples sealed inbetween thick glass planels. Several skeletons of people and animals too, plus separate bones.
The skeletons and bones that really gave a lasting impression for me were skeletons of people that had suffered from severe scoliosis, a skull with the eye region broken by a horse kick which i seem to recall resulted in near instant death and bones shattered by a wagon wheel rolling over.
The preserved bodyparts really gave me and my dad a strange sense of feeling sick. It was fascinating to observe bodyparts so well preserved, but also rather sickening to think that they once had been part of a living person.
Some of the samples featured were of babies with mutations. Eyes fused into one, two babies grown together and 2 maybe 3 fetuses that didn`t develop properly in the womb and perished long before birth.
