Yes Em.. a pill-box. Those 'going in' windows were like the 'arrow loops' in medieval castles.. you could see, or fire out in a wide area..but it was a lot harder to shoot at people inside. Yo'Papa.
You should notice quite a few "Pill boxes" left over from WW2..... The canals were used as a stop lines to hinder tanks should we have been invaded, as tanks could not pass most of the canal system...
Emily, you must be a very organized person to run your business from a moving boat... co ordinating things so you can pick up and presumably send off parcels.... and your postal/courier service must be a bit more reliable in the UK than ours is in NZ. lovely sights; especially the bridge with the old telephone pole in it -amazing!

I just want to throw out an idea out there to you guys, and get your feedback, if that's cool. I'm curious if you ever use Benny's music in the background of your videos?. But anyway, my idea is this, what if you took the boat, found a very secluded area to moore, rearrange the inside and top of the boat with tons of spot lights and different other lights for certain angles, same for the inside and make a Soundstage for both on top and inside, then have Benny and his Bandmates do a full set while you are recording and documenting from different angles. And if you do it just as the sun is going down, Benny can start his concert. You have the whole concert done on SuperChat live, as a free Concert, but I'm sure plenty of people will send super chats. That would be epic, and then when it's all over, you can edit the videos for each song, and then Benny will have a music videos for his entire set.

Allen is such cutie pie ❤️. I'm just debating on what to do this morning, it's 32° (American) brrrrrrr it's definitely cold up here in the mountains. But the leaves are falling, and the colors are beautiful here. Good luck with the maintenance stuff on your boat. I myself have found a vibration in my driveshaft of my diesel 4x4. So I crawled under it to find out one of the u-joints is bad. So that's what I need to replace today, but luckily I have a big 30 x 70 shop.
Get yourselves down to Lidl and get some parkside 20v electric tools, chainsaw, sabre saw, paint sprayers, drills etc almost any tool you need and the same battery works for them all and a fraction of the cost of dewalt or Makita

You were right Emily. That was a WW2 pillbox you saw on the towpath. I remember them being quite common in seaside areas and they looked exactly like that. Also todays Canal & River Trust post confirmed it. Quote "There are still visible reminders of wartime on our canals, with some structures such as pillboxes and stop gates in situ."
Lovely video, I love the Shropshire Union canal. The Anchor Inn is probably one of the best pubs I’ve been in (so far) on the cut - no tech and oldie worldy. If you didn’t top up with diesel at Wheaton Aston you missed a trick, one of the cheapest I’ve found on the cut. Good work. Oh by the way Bennie you sound a little like Marc Bolan!

Hard to believe that the canals were literally abandoned and left to go derelict when their original economic contributions faded due to the arrival of the railway system. They were in total decline until some members of the public decided to restore a section and keep it running, and the movement to restore and safeguard the canal network snowballed from there! Imagine how close this nation came up loosing this treasure of national heritage forever!

Another wonderful video, beautiful photography, everything is lovely about it. It also has a feeling of the era of the late 1960s early 70s, 1966-72, which is nice. Keep them coming guys, they are a real uplift in depressing times. Ps you were looking at a pillar box, not windows but machine gun holes for shooting out of, to stop Hitler!
