- Today I perform a drum cover of Early Distant Warning by Rush from the Grace Under Pressure album, featuring my expanded Alesis Nitro Mesh kit triggering sounds from Superior Drummer.
Stick around for the end where I briefly discuss the challenges and limitations of playing certain songs and genres with an electronic kit.

You truely show that its not the cost of the drumset but making the most of the resources out there to enhance it and just having fun with your skill of drumming. Instead of a $4K edrum set you can buy a Macbook pro, a Alesis Nitro all the extras and Superior drummer and still have some money in the bank and have fun and sound good Thank you sir.
I may not have all the bells and whistles of a $7,700 Roland kit, but I also didn't spend $7,700!!! I can live with that tradeoff - thanks for your support!
More Rush covers, this one was ace 🤘🏻
Haha - thanks! Tough to do on an e-kit, but I have 2 acoustic kit Rush covers on my channel if you’d like to check them out! 😉
Excellent song choice! If you’re looking for more expansion options, I have upgraded my module on my surge kit to the DM10 module( I know the DM10 is an older module, but it has more options and you can use a three zone ride with it). Now I have four cymbals, a three zone ride, five toms, hi hats and still have two open spots on the module for more!! I’ve split off the Tom’s so the cymbals are using the edge trigger of the toms. I plan to get another pad to add a second snare and maybe one more cymbal. Your videos have inspired this venture. Keep up the good work.
I’ll have to check that out! Thanks for the support and tip!
Some good drumming there. Question: how long did your snare mesh last? Thanks
Still going strong!
Awesome job! Can I ask what number ride cymbal you use, and the crash cymbal to the right of that?
All my sounds come from software running on my Mac. I believe this video is running Superior Drummer sounds triggered by midi from the kit.
Kevin, I just wanted to take a minute to say thank you (and the Demonic Sweaters guy) for inspiring me to get back into the drums after a thirty year break. The evolution of your Alesis Nitro has been extremely informative and encouraged me to quit making excuses and just do it! So, after two days of reviews / links /add to cart / remove from cart / lists / videos etc., I took the plunge. I took a bit of a different path though. I didn't want to get a kit then add to it. My research on it showed that to be far more costly in the long run. So today, I purchased TWO drum sets off of Amazon one being a larger kit, the other smaller. The large kit is the eight piece mesh from Lyx and the smaller is an Alesis Turbo mesh. I chose the Lyx over the Nitro mesh for a couple of reasons. It has a ten inch snare and all the tom pads are dual triggered plus a pretty robust rack. The drum module features are quite similar to the nitros also. Lastly, although I suspect both company's drum pads came from the same factory by their looks, the Lyx's pads resemble those of the Alesis Surge kit. The smaller Alesis kit was a no brainer to be the add on as they've proven to be winners across the board. The small kit comes this Sunday and the larger on Tuesday (out the door cost with a few doo-dads was about $700). I spent about three hours drawing out a mockup of the combined kit to include rearranging tube positions and arranging the pad/cymbals and it should be pretty cool if it turns out the way I've engineered it. I've never used my RUclips page really but I am going to change that and post a video of the build to keep all informed. Again, thank you for all that you've done and, keep up the good work! - Todd
I love this! Anything that can get someone playing (any instrument) is always a good thing, and I spent 34 years hoping to inspire people to love to play. Glad to hear I can still make it happen (virtually)! 😛
Pictures! More story!
What program you using?
Superior Drummer in this video.
You have no idea what you have done to my musical nerves.
I hope that’s a good thing? 😅
@@BustingsticksWithKW I've been playing guitar since I was 8. I'm 52 now. My first full length song I ever learned was YYZ and that's when the exit stage left was released. So yeah it was a damn good thing! I was raised and studied Rush all my life. Thank you.
Rushfans admin team member here, fantastic job at DEW! inspiring me to try and go and figure out how i can expand my dm8 kit
Brilliant! Hope it helps!
Good stuff brother 🤘💪⚡️
I appreciate it!
Well done! GIven the challenges you stated w/ e-drums on the intricacies of a Rush song, you did an amazing job!
I haven't played drums in awhile. Was looking at an e-kit like the Alesis because of noise concerns and space being an issue. Would you recommend it for general playing/practice?
It’s a great value while being more than passable as an instrument that can be played expressively - to a limit. Use an external sound source and you can achieve a lot for little money.
Nice work brother..
Thank you! Cheers!
Great information I plan on purchasing ez drummer since I already have SSd5. At some point I'll purchase superior drummer great info on all your videos.
Thank you so much - so glad it helps!!
Great job - especially considering the limitations yet utilizing Superior Drummer. Didn't realize this was posted on my birthday nor did I know there was a Simmonds patch available on SD!

Better check those notifications more closely! 😂
Great vid.
Thank you!
Great sound, was wondering what the max you could expand the kit too… I’m about to get another expander kit and then I’ll be at 15 patches also.
Thank you so much for explaining and sharing your knowledge
Cheers
👍👍
Awesome - thanks!
Is there a reason you could not upgrade and use a different hi hat pedal like you described to get more sensitivity? Is it a limitation of the module?
It’s the module. It’s set to understand a 2/3 position input and can’t be changed. More expensive ones use midi cc messages to send a continuous stream of info so you have 127 values between closed and open - but you pay $$ for that ability!!
Awesome drum cover 👌 👏 😎 your a great drummer 😀, thanks for sharing
Thank you!
This gave me chills throughout your performance! Would love if you could expand on the high-hat issue especially if your are able to test other electric options.
I'm glad you liked the playing - if you are a Rush fan check out my 2 acoustic kit covers on the channel as well! I'm trying to get some of my other drummer friends with e-kits to provide me with either a rundown, or let me borrow, because the funds for buying various kits are not unlimited around here! 😛
Flawless victory! Love the kit btw.
Thank you! 😁
What is that bass pad?
Haha - you’ll need a time machine - that’s from a 1985 kit I had!
@@BustingsticksWithKW no wonder it looks.. out of this world 😅
This is probably one of a few videos that actually shows the potential of the Kit.
It seems that every other video on the internet is about talking endlessly about the gear, comparisons, etc and little about doing something with it.
Congrats on your cover of DEW.
Thank you! I started these because of that exact situation - no one really could tell me what I could really expect with this kit for so few $$$.
@@BustingsticksWithKW I use to go through the entire album with my acoustic kit back then (absolutely love the middle part of afterimage)
Still in the middle of arranging the 2 kits into 1 but your take on customize the kit and make it your own gives me hope that I can do something similar.
I have a few older acoustic covers on the channel so you can check out my replica NP kit there!
Incredible kit and playing.
Thank you!
awesome drumming 🥁
Thanks!
Outstanding!!!
Thanks!
Nice cover!
Thanks!
Fantastic job
Thank you! Little rusty but muscle memory is a thing!
@@BustingsticksWithKW Your welcome. I also make covers , consider checking them out.
