That little hop of anger Tony does when Paulie calls him and tells him they found a truck and he says “I don’t know what the fuck your talking about” is so funny. James was such a good actor. RIP
It is.. and I've been out there.. it's a trip. There's a town in the middle of the Barron's where the folks are their own , odd. People. They even speak their own odd language. They consider themselves independent from the outside world.. like the amish.. cept they aren't religious and are semi modern. It's weird.
Everybody says Pine Barrens is the greatest episode but how could we know for sure? We'd have to put every episode on all at the same time and that's just not possible, not even with computers.
Most overrated episode ever...It was a good change of pace in advance of the season finale, and it's great for developing further the Christopher-Paulie relationship, but best ever? I put it in the Top Ten, but closer to ten than to one...
For all the shots when Christopher and Paulie were sitting in the blue van, it was shot on a sound stage at Silver Cup Studios. They had to act like they were cold and their breath was added digitally. Never would be able to tell if they didn't say it on their Sopranos podcast.
A little trivia as to why Tony and junior were laughing when Bobby came out dressed in the bright vest. The actor for Tony told Bobby to surprise him that day in the set as he was having a bad day. Bobby came out dressed like that with a dildo strapped to his waist that you don’t see in the shot. The laugh between Tony and uncle junior is legit and not part of the script.😂
The original joke of that costume is that it had Bobby looking like Elmer Fudd. (People from our generation see that right away) And that had everyone cracking up. But something caused the director to have to keep shooting the scene over and over and it wasn’t funny anymore. That’s when the actor playing Bobby decided to use the “prop’ to keep things lively on the set.
These two episodes back-to-back are among the best of the series, in my opinion. Pine Barrens is hilarious and continues the Tony/Gloria saga, and Amour Fou is one of the heaviest episodes of the series. Absolutely incredible television. Thoroughly enjoyed watching it again with you guys.
The Sopranos is superb through and through, from the writing to the acting, to the casting. And its great to watch these episodes again with you. I enjoy your reactions.
I love how this show and Breaking Bad mixes crime drama with comedy so effectively. You two should watch The Wire next, its up there with both BB and Sopranos easily.
I grew up in South Jersey the Pine Barrens is amazing. It's a true wilderness, basically a big sandy swamp filled with Cedar, Pine and Birch trees. We would go on camping trips down there in Boy Scouts and sixth grade school wilderness experience trips. Most of the rest of the country doesn't realize New Jersey has a wild wild frontier.
I live in SJ and if you grew up in South Jersey than you already know this is NOT the real Pine Barrens! They actually filmed the episode in upstate NY👍
I was so focused on pine barrens I forgot how great the second ep was. Season 3 really is the best. Between Gloria and Jackie robbing the card game holy shit lol. I remember audibly gasping when Christopher and furio were in there
Jackie Jr.'s father was Jackie Aprile, the boss who died of cancer in season 1. Jackie Jr.'s uncle Ritchie Aprile was the loose cannon who got out of prison in season 2. He was Janice's fiance who she shot to death after he punched her.
You two gotta look up why Tony was laughing so hard! It's a great true story. Great scene tho. You two are great. I've watched every episode at least 5 times but watching you guys watching it a first time is great. Keep up the great work!
Really enjoy seeing you two react. I wish I could experience the Sopranos again for the first time. But honestly it gets better and better on rewatches picking up things you missed, themes and subtext, etc.
David Chase NEVER allowed actors to go off script, until the moment Gloria spit in Tony’s face. She did that on the fky and not even Tony knew it was coming! She literally spit in his face without his knowledge! He was pissed! But Chase loved it and kept it. It’s discussed in Talking Soprano’s Podcast with Chris, Bobby and special guest Gloria
Bobby being dressed up in hunting gear was a surprise to the other actors. James Gandolfini didn't know he was going to be wearing that. That's why he was laughing so hard. It was actually a blooper that they kept in.
They don't know understand what, when Tony says "the interior ministry" even hints at. They don't comprehend the extreme difference between someone being an "interior decorator" and an "interior minister." So the joke is lost.
Everyone thinks the overhead shot in the tree means the Russian climbed up there, but Steve Buscemi who directed it said it was just a stylistic choice. So, where the Russian ended up is anyone's guess. Pine Barrens - the best episode of the entire show 😂
The one thing sometimes gets forgotten is the episode following Pine Barrens is so freaking good. So much happened that impacts the future of the show.
@6:28 Aisa says "dang they cold!!" Little does she know that Paulie and Chrissy are about to almost actually freeze to death in the next couple scenes lol
Jacky Aprile was not a loose canon, You might be confusing him with Richie Aprile, Jackys brother. Actually Jacky ran a tight ship. Tony is taking over for Jacky since he died of cancer...
Something I thought about - pretty much all of Tony's mistresses (not women that he just slept with on a whim, but the women he actually spent time courting and building an extramarital relationship with) seem to favor Barbara. Petite, thin, dark hair, pale. I mean, even Dr. Melfi sort of fits in some of those categories. Soft spoken, intelligent, reserved. Intimately aware of the chaos, but not a perpetrator of it.
Omg. I forgot how this one started. You don't want to get lost in the pines. My dad's family goes back to the late 1600s there. Big, mysterious, and the people didn't used to be real big on "outsiders"
The second half of season 3 and all of season 4 are peak Sopranos. It never gets better. Season 5 and 6 are great. But you are watching some of the best television ever in history in this pocket
Great reaction guys! You know this series had many outstanding and memorable performances from it's guest stars. Be it a couple scenes or a few episodes every one was cast perfectly in my opinion. But Annabella Sciorra as Gloria was probably my favorite. No secret she's a great actress and was well respected in her career up to this point but to go toe to toe with James Gandolfini in this particular storyline was really something. Every time she was on screen I was on the edge of my couch.
Bobby was the only one properly dressed for outdoors. Warm clothes, boots, bright vest and hunting rifle. As a Finn, I always dress for the weather, never for the style.
considered the highest-rated episode of the entire series, Pine Barrens is the first one of a few directed by Steve Buscemi! he will come back later as a character, but for the while he's the one who threw the steak at James Gandolfini's head.
"Pine Barrens" is the episode most _Sopranos_ fans put at the top of their best of lists, but I'd forgotten that "Amour Fou" came right after. I love Annabella Sciorra and think she killed it as Gloria Trillo. I'd risk my marriage and maybe my life to buy a car from her. We definitely seek out partners who remind us of whatever we learned love was when we were children and "drama" sometimes gets learned to mean love. I enjoyed rewatching these two great episodes with you two.
The crazy one Asia is talking about wasn't Jacki Jr's dad, it was his uncle Richie April. Jackie's dad was the boss of the family and he died of cancer. Richie was the loose canon.
chrissy was right too that must be the moment he lost faith in tony. tony didn’t scold and punish chris because he was out of control he did it because HE couldn’t control him.
The scene where Ralphie meets with Tony after the Poker Heist wrong, I could see Ralphie lying through his teeth to cover his ass. He didn’t say he was sorry or anything that might direct the blame to him. He just said “it’s terrible” at first, then he didn’t at all mention the gun was his or that he regrets telling that story of Tony’s Poker Heist. It was all him directing the attention to Jackie with a facade of concern. Ralphie’s never been concerned about anyone besides himself. After that, he appealed to Tony’s ego when he said it’s up to him, the complete opposite of how Christopher handled it. When Ralphie said I “I feel we should give him a pass” he’s actually covering his ass saying Tony should give him a pass because he doesn’t want him to know he’s partly responsible. What an evil lying sack of sh*t. Great performance by Joe Pantoliano.
As much as I love Breaking Bad, and I really do (easily in my Top 5 or 7 shows), it doesn't hold a candle to The Sopranos. Sopranos side characters have more depth to them than some of the mains in Breaking Bad. Also, The Sopranos didn't need to rely on constant cliffhangers and the "oh geeze, how did I wind up in this position" episode openers. And as far as the sheer number of iconic characters, The Sopranos takes it by a mile. The only thing I can say Breaking Bad did better was the sound effects lol, but thats really just a matter of when The Sopranos was made. All shows had cheesy sound effects in the late 90s and early aughts.
That black priest schooled Carmela LMAO "you gotta look at good things *looks at her 2lbs diamond as she covers it* hahaha im dead "You dont gotta love me,but you will respect me" never seen a man act better than James Gandolfini there!
Tony and Ralph were both trying to put the decision of killing Jackie jr on the other. Neither wanted to be the one who gave the order but Tony is the boss and in so many words ralphie knew what he was going to have to do.
They have to enjoy pine barrens. Nothing is better. So funny yet gangster. Which is what makes sopranos so good. Being funny and gangster both is what makes shows great. Rome, justified, breaking bad, sons, thrones, boardwalk empire, and deadwood
Paulie: "You're not gonna believe this. He killed sixteen Czechoslovakians. Guy was an interior decorator."
Christopher: "His house looked like shit."
That was so funny
One of the funniest lines ever!
😅🤣😂
Classic David Chase dialogue! Love it!
@@tysonthomas7094 Except David Chase didn't write that dialogue, Terence Winter did.
“The package hit crissy with an implement” 😂 paulie is hilarious when he’s serious
IS THERE ANYWAY THE PACKAGE COULD OF SURVIVED!?
The funniest bits throughout the series are Paulie being completely sincere. 😂
"The guy was an interior decorator"
Chrissy: "His house looked like shit." 😂😂😂
Patsy threatening Gloria is one of my favorite moments
it's a really smart move on Tony's part....it takes away all the melodrama that she had imagined in her head....it won't be cinematic
Scared the shit out me
That little hop of anger Tony does when Paulie calls him and tells him they found a truck and he says “I don’t know what the fuck your talking about” is so funny. James was such a good actor. RIP
I’ve 100% done that hop before 😂😂😂
BJ in the Pine Barrens episode: "I don't think this is going to go as planned." LMAO.
I was waiting for Pine Barrens! Greatest episode ever

Nah, Whitecaps is the best IMO. Edie Falco's performance in that episode is one of the greatest in TV history.
Agreed. Best episode ever!!!
Most overrated episode ever...It was a good change of pace in advance of the season finale, and it's great for developing further the Christopher-Paulie relationship, but best ever? I put it in the Top Ten, but closer to ten than to one...

Pine Barrens gets all the attention (rightfully so), but Amour Fou is an OUTSTANDING episode.
One of the best episodes

Pretty accurate except he was carrying it,not wearing it 😂

“He killed 16 Czechoslovakians. Guy was an interior decorator.” One of the greatest quotes.😂😂
His house look liked shiyt 😂lol
The forest episode is probably one of the funniest, it had me in tears 1st time round! Plus you see the cracks begin to appear in the ranks!
Love the pine barrens episode. “Mix it with the relish!”
one of the best episodes of the entire series…. AND, the episode after was awesome too.!! damn, great series.🎉🎉🎉🎉
The Sopranos is superb through and through, from the writing to the acting, to the casting. And its great to watch these episodes again with you. I enjoy your reactions.
Tony and Ralph trying to pass the buck on each other about killing Jackie was hilarious
I love how this show and Breaking Bad mixes crime drama with comedy so effectively. You two should watch The Wire next, its up there with both BB and Sopranos easily.
All they had to do is go pick up the money and leave, they totally created that entire situation and didn't even get to keep the money.

YES! Got my lunch, got my 'dro, and a drink, ready to watch you witness "Pine Barrens", awesome episode and can't wait to see the reactions.
This was Tony Sirico at his best lol. Mayonnaise on your chin = egg on your face
Jackie Jr.'s father was Jackie Aprile, the boss in the 1st season, you're thinking of Richie who is Jackie Jr's uncle.
The Pine Barrens was such an amazing episode. One of the best.
Always nice to see you two drop some Sopranos
Nothing is better than the Pine Barrens episode... so damn funny

I have to watch this episode again! Paulie & Christopher in this episode are nothing but great comedy! 🤣
33:30 "Why would anybody hit YOU, of all people, with a side of beef?" has to be the best Dr. Melfi line.
Best steak throw since NAPOLEON DYNAMITE. 🥩

Pine Barrens!!l The greatest hour of television!
Been waiting for this! Interior decorator😂😂
His place looked like shit
Its Jackie Jr's uncle Richie that was a loose cannon. Jackie Sr was smart and a respected leader. His brother Richie was the crazy one.
Loved this episode
