For many years I slept under a poncho whilst serving in the British army. when done right ( with the right sleeping bag ) was really comfortable. A very useful piece of kit.
I purchased this pack in July 22 and found that the zipper for the bedroll has been updated to have two zippers. To reduce the drag on the zippers I ran a piece of paraffin to lubricate the zipper. I use the paraffin on all my zippers on packs. It not only helps waterproof the zippers, but also lubricates the zippers. I love the flexibility of the pack in how you can tailor for each trip need. I also purchased spray to assist the water repellency. Love the poncho as well except for the color, but it is well made and has multi uses. Overall, I agree with the review, it's a tad heavy buy built like a tank and totally adjustable for my needs.

I have the Explorer 4000 and I love it! I've hiked 140 of the Pinhoti trail with it and it held up great. Only issue I had with the Explorer 4000 was the bottom shelf ripped out in one corner by the zipper inside, not a big deal. Great to the point videos!
I was pretty much sold when you pulled the gear sling out of the bottom. I have a Kelty that I have used exactly once that is going to be replaced by this or the 5500. Probably the 5500. I figured I'd watched enough of your reviews that I needed to sub ... thanks for all the work you put in to doing this for us.
Firm believer in a poncho when it rains. A pack cover doesn't keep any of the padding dry which can add several pounds of weight when wet. Nice review.
He should say it however he wants to say it; it's his video. But people probably give him a hard time for saying "pouring THE rain," not "the pouring rain," or just "pouring rain." Everyone says "pouring rain," just not "pouring THE rain," but who cares. We all speak differently.

I have heard a lot of hikers poo poo the poncho, however with "tie out points" the poncho is a great addition! That makes it a multi-use item - shelter or personal rain gear.
The idea of the split waist straps is so one section goes over your hip bone, the lower goes under. So as to be done up tight without undue pressure ON your hip bone and without squeezing your waist Thus the reason it is adjustable in height. You are running it too high. Try it again "over" your hips. You may be even more impressed!

I prefer the use of a large poncho over me and the pack to promote air flow. Rain suits just get so soaked no matter how breathable they are. Plus, you can use the poncho as a tarp/vestibule etc. I like gear that has multiple uses. Seems like a very nice pack for the money. I would probably take off some of the neoprene sleve thingys to cut down on weight. not sure they are that useful. Nice review. Nice look on the video too. Very sharp!
Awesome review! I have the Teton Grand 5500 pack. I love it, 90 liters. Lot of space and very comfortable. Plus has the poncho like this pack does. These 2 packs are almost the same, just the one your reviewing is just a little smaller. Have a great day. Love your videos. Jeremy.
I'm glad to see you reviewing some Teton Sports gear. I've been a customer of theirs for a few years and was curious to see what you thought of the products. I think you gave an honest review and I agree with just about everything you said (good and bad). I think overall, Teton makes great packs for the money, and I would recommend them to any beginner or intermediate level backpacker on a budget. I must admit, that zipper does look like a pain in the butt!

I have been looking for a new pack for a while now. I have been using Kelty packs with my back country backpacking regular being the Redwing 50 (the older model). I have used that pack over hundreds of miles and it has been great. However, I took it on a 5 day trip in the Shenandoah wilderness and it was a STRETCH on space. I really had to pack it full and cut some quality of life gear. I think this is going to be my next big purchase to enable some longer trips. Thanks so much for this review it has sealed my decision on the Teton Mountain Adventurer.
The price is great for this pack from what Luke showed. I was going to buy a 65L Osprey , but now I might buy this. If anyone has an Osprey , please chime in , Thanks

I just ordered this pack and the TETON Sports LEEF Lightweight Mummy Sleeping Bag. Looking forward to doing some fall/winter camping this year here in Colorado. I'm hoping the 2 compression straps on the frontside of the pack are good enough to strap my snowboard in. I only wish there was more of a MOLLE capability on this pack as I have several modules I'd like to add.
I bought the 5500 based on this review and loved it. Highly recommend for the price. The only criticism I have is that it's not as sturdy as an external frame....but that's not entirely fair. For the money, I'd be hard pressed to name a better substitute. This pack is an incredible value.
It definitely looks to be on the lower end of quality and durability, but for the price, it's probably an excellent bag for someone on a budget who is hoping to get into backpacking. Thank you for the video review
There several useful features this pack is missing I.e. outside hydration blather shelve, multiple large hip belt pockets brain compartment conversion to fanny pack to name a few.....just keeping it real....tip panchos don't work well in heavy brush country .... but not bad for $137...if you're on a budget.....I would not say it's not nearly as good as my Osprey Xenith which cost a little less than twice as much....
Yeah I got this for a backpacking trip I'm going on but I already had an issue the day I got it which was today. I am a bigger guy but most all other backpacks fit me fine but with this they did not give enough slack so I can barely get it to clip around me, Lucky for me though upon calling Teton they surprisingly have a Waist Extender. I just hope it gets here before my backpacking trip with mail and such running super slow and everything.
Luke, you should try to get your hands on a Seek Outside pack to test. If you're not familiar, it's a hybrid of sorts between an internal and external frame pack. Lots of other interesting design features.

What is the pack material? 420D, 600D? packcloth? Cordura? ripstop? Curious design for the sleeping bag compartment zipper to have it covered from the elements when the pack itself is not waterproofed and is intended to covered by the supplied poncho. Yet the access zippers to the main body front and side are not covered?
It looks like the orange zipper pocket on the left side would fit a pistol in it. Just a thought. Also how’s the swing on this backpack fully loaded. Looks like Susie’s red one.

I will be honest with you own 5 different 5.11 bags and I would not take them out over this pack. This has been my only backpacking bag and outdoor adventures are far more rugged than urban. However if you don't like the look I say go 5.11, they have some great durable urban bags to choose from.

Bryan Resch I have a osprey atmos ag. I would highly recommend it. Most comfortable pack I have.
I think it's technically 65+10L because of the design of the top of the bag.
I have the Explorer 4000, and it's definitely not 65L. At LEAST 75L.
Zips for sleeping bag compartments are hard to operate on most every pack that has them.

I’m buying this one. They also have a 5500 Grand backpack, but people tend to say not to go above 65l on long hikes/trails.
Can a 1l Nalgene bottle easily fit in the mesh pockets? Some packs have very small mesh pockets making it almost impossible to get them in.
