    Swiatek has a lovely game. Her athleticism is wonderful, no one has slid on a court like that since Clijsters. Also her forehand is very modern, and she gets under the ball & greats tremendous topspin.
    Her backhand has a lovely motion, too. She can surely play an all court game and is well deserving of the %1 seed. I enjoy her consistency. That’s under rated in tennis. You have to keep the ball in.

    @amerajanovic4841 Год назад +20

    No no, but surely you didn't create highlights showing 3 points won by Gauf and 3 by Iga in that 1st set, which Iga won 60. Surely that did not just happen. Just did.. someone on the WTA clearly has an issue with this match-up and I'm here for it!
    This was an Iga demolition train at its finest. The fact Coco managed to hit a winner here and there (and ended 7-5 in the 1st and 17-13 overall) is a testament to Coco's exquisite backhand and net play. She's still working on her forehand. On the other hand, Iga played flawless tennis, handcuffing Coco on that forehand side, and even having a game in that first set that consisted of 4 winners! But no, that is ofc not worthy enough to make it into the highlights video.
    Their matches are this lopsided in Iga's favour primarily because of their forehands, Coco's is simply nowhere near the level of Iga's, and Iga is of course a much more complete player, playing with the world of confidence after the past few seasons.
    Iga-Coco match-up also reminds me of Serena-Sharapova rivalry a bit, and I will enjoy every moment of it as much as I enjoyed that one: in their early matches, Maria was getting a lot of hype (deservedly so, she was actually winning tournaments and slams), but Serena was by far more successful. So Serena would be even more motivated to come and perform. We all know how their story went. In the build-up to Iga-Coco matches, it's quite similar, Coco being named by so many as the woman to challenge Iga next year, completely disrespecting so many other higher-ranked and better players than Coco (for some of the ignorant western media, news flash for you, Jessica Pegula and Danielle Collins exist too, and they are Americans too as far as I last checked). That's what I also notice in Iga's performances against Coco, she seems to me to be just that bit more hyped, and playing better tennis than against most of her other opponents, and that is great to see!
    To the media, including the WTA, I hope you stop the bias, acknowledge your masterful champions' dexterous plays, give Iga the respect she deserves, let Coco be and allow her time to work on that forehand! I am confident Coco will be a force, and potentially challenge the best to win some titles, as it's clear her improvement (especially on that forehand) has been astounding this season. But she's not winning any titles, let alone slams! So let her be, let her develop, and stop the overhype!
    Very proud of the superstar Iga has become and how she carries herself as the World No.1 player! Go for it, go for it all!
    Long comment, I know, but you'll survive 😜

    The US have always had dominant champions in both men's and women's tennis, and even since they stopped dominating the men's game they still had Serena and Venus. But now that they're done winning, there is a sort of desperation creeping into the US media because they are faced with the prospect in a few years of having no dominant champions at all. That's why they are willing Gauff to be the next Serena, but in reality it is Iga who possesses everything to be the next generational champion in women's tennis. And history tells us that there isn't room for more than one or two (maybe three at a stretch) dominant players at one time, so I think Gauff is more likely to be a really solid player for the next decade who wins a couple of slams.

    Of course they frame the highlights in favor of the player who ate a bagel and a pretzel in the course of losing the match. I’ve been a longtime fan of the game and Swiatek’s winners and strategies are (to me) a lot more exciting to watch than Coco’s. No disrespect to Coco; I like her and root for her, but stop the hype, already. The highlights should have shown Swiatek’s full command of the match. When Gauff does the same to Swiatek (or any others) they should depict accordingly.

    While she did win the US Open, I think Iga looks better in this tournament so far. She has committed her share of errors like everyone else, but she has also been making tremendous shots throughout her matches. She seems much more confident right now, and if she can maintain that, no one is going to beat her. Perhaps the loss in the Ostrava final gave her more resolve heading into San Diego. Hoping she wins!

      In San Diego they use different balls. With very light USOpen balls it’s difficult for Iga to have control on court. She has an extreme western grip so she makes more errors. They should change the balls in NYC and we will get much better level of tennis from most of the players.
