“Hello everyone. Its Seth. PROOOOOBABLY better known as SaffronOlive. And its time for another edition of ‘Against the Gods’. And today, we’re going to be traveling to the Mountains of Madness to fight the eldritch gods within!”
Though the Planeswalkers are so powerful that they are very nearly Gods of Earth themselves, they do not understand the mysteries of the Gods of Outside.
Ah, I see that the New York winter is treating you well, Seth. Stay warm this weekend! EDIT: I feel like Traverse really wants you to run stuff like Vine Mare or Thrun? Honestly, the card I *really* want to see someone break in a 60 card format is Harvest Season: *Harvest Season* - 2G Sorcery Search your library for up to X basic land cards, where X is the number of tapped creatures you control, put those cards onto the battlefield tapped, then shuffle.
Hmmm some kind of a landfall token deck. Perhaps something with awaken the woods maybe? Maybe song of the freyalise to get your creatures tapped without attacking.
28:00 You only tutored up 5 lands! If you got 6, then they would have lost Sundering Titan and they would have gone down to 4 life (which is significant considering how many 4-power threats you had)
I saw that too. But in the end it didn't matter as the opponent healed up to 20+ and the sundering titan wasn't the deciding factor for the game ending. Still a missplay/missclick.
Traverse probably just needs to be like a 1 or 2 of, not the full playset. It is inconsistent but when you can time it right or protect it with a counter then it's pretty great
Theres somthing comedic about how Seth tried for half a stream to eat lands with Karn with no real success and now everytime hes in that match up it happens to him immediately lol
Hey, Seth. I definitely love these 'critical mass' style decks vs the simple combo decks that either get there or don't. The games are way more interactive, longer, and more interesting. Nonetheless, love the content my guy
@28:00 you took 5 lands instead of 6, was it a misclick? It would have given the bears +1 in power, making it a trade with the opposing 9/12 sundering titan (not sure if it would have made things different, as the opponent proceeded to live the dream with their archive draws but still something to note).
Only getting 5 out of 6 availible basics with Traverse was such a punt haha, would've bumped up the power of the bears to 12 and at least trade with the sundering titan. oof! fun deck though :D
Every time Seth makes a snow deck my impression is the same. This deck is sooooo much better than it should be. Lol I love superfriends. I'd watch whatever you make, but super friends is cool so I'm down.
More super friends depends on how they are build. I'd love all sorts of not-control super friends. However Esper or grixis control super friends is just not fun anymore. Agro or combo super friends?
Someone should make a custom set with all of Seth's mispronunciations as variations on the original cards. - "Brothershood End" - "Shadowsphere" - "Yarion" could be a pirate - "Champion of the Perished" oh wait, that's already a card...
Super sweet brew! Can’t believe this janky plan actually came together 😂 Also I for one am in favor of superfriends content once ONE releases since there’s so many sweet new pieces it’d be a shame not to brew around them
Way back in like 2012ish, I had a modern delver deck (similar to match 2) and played against a guy at work who ran the dark depths/thespian stage combo. Poor guy didn't know vapor snag was one of my favorites.
I use faceless haven in my zombie deck and they get buffed from lord effects. now i want to make a tribal tribal deck with tribal lords, shapeshifters, and faceless hevan.
36:30 I mean, they apparently would have only left up Bonecrusher for blocks. So, you would have won even with them holding Thoughtseize by attacking all.
It wouldn't have mattered, but you didn't grab every land at 28:05. You missed one, and had the option to grab all six. You would have at least killed the 9/12.
At 28:05 Seth, you traverse and you can choose 6, which would make your bears lethal vs sundering titan, but you misclicked and clicked only 5. Soooo yeah maybe slow down when you're clicking. You'll also notice your bears go from 6 to 11 power, which is only 5... so that's a giga punt
PreVideo prediction - if Marit Lage wasnt a token, but the echantment transformed it would be pretty good, but the fact bounce can kill it is prob gonna mean too much interaction possibility for it to be too good.
Seth punted in the Game 3 Loss HARD. But, in all honesty, there are only two(2) problems with this deck: 1) No copies of *Azusa's Many Journeys* - Stupid-good card for a land RICH deck like this one. 2) This is only playable on Arena's Historic format, which, since the intro of *Pact of Negation* is basically "Modern-Lite".
Hey Seth, love the video, deck and gameplay - really cool! If I was looking to make a budget Modern deck out of this, what would you recommend as a replacement for Traverse the Outlands? There's nothing quite as good as TtO, so I was thinking either Verdant Mastery (flexibility of cost with the downside of helping your opponent ramp too) or Shard Convergence and shifting the lands about to include some of the tapped snow dual lands to include Plains and Swamps, although that seems clunky. Other option is Migration Path although 2 lands for 4 mana compared to 4 lands for 5 mana just seems like bad value
Against Rakdos aggro, would it have been a better play on the second last turn to bounce and replay Kraken just to keep stuff tapped down? By my count, it would still be affordable (costs 3 or 4 after boncing the snow lands), and Marit Lage would still have just enough snow permanents to be created on the next upkeep, as long as they couldn't kill Kraken and you didn't fire up the manland. With that line you're only banking on them not having LD or removal that could kill the Kraken, but in exchange you're mitigating a lot of extra damage.
"If you're watching this: Are Superfriends cool?" For me? Mostly no. But mostly I hate Planeswalkers, I think they're harder than any other card type to balance, and they warp the way the whole game plays out in a way that detracts from Magic. I believe that Planeswalkers play a huge role in the negative power creep in Magic, that when Dominaria came out a few years ago it was "Why would a control deck ever play a Baneslayer like Lyra as a finisher when it could play Teferi?" and that to compete with Planeswalkers creatures have had to be things like Ragavan, which can have an immediate impact generating Planeswalker levels of value. So, yeah, the fact that Planeswalkers have, at times, almost driven me away from Magic, and have impacted other aspects of the game in a way that also pushes me away, makes it difficult for me to stomach Superfriends.
As far as Super Friends go I like the archetype when the deck uses weird or under used PWs. I don't need to see a bunch of Narsets and Teferis that are in every blue list. Also, LAFFO @ the Jim Davis comment 😂
Not Aldergrad, but AlderGARD. In old norse "gard" was a farm. The word slowly transformed and later it was every piece of land that was fenced off. Thus, both "garden" and "to guard" stem from the norse "gard"
At 28:00, you messed up big time. Your bears had 6 power, so traverse was allowing you to grab 6 lands, but you only grabbed 5. Had you had grabbed 6, your bears would've had enough power to trade with the sundering titan. It most likely wouldn't have changed a thing, but still.
I'm fine with superfriends as long as it isn't super meta. Having a planeswalker-focused set every 5 years seems reasonable, and WAR was 2019, so just a little bit early on that track
"If our opponent didn't cast that TS, there's no way we win!" You have 3 attackers against 1 blocker and your two biggest creatures have trample. You had lethal.
I run traverse the outlands in gargos (commander). Once i got all my snow lands into play. And with Sunstone, I was able to control combat the rest of the game. Sunstone is an underrated card for commander. It's broken by questing beast.
Game one is a perfect example as to why grixis control is so bad. No counter magic, no relavent threats, no pressure, a bunch of discard. But at no point did the opponent ever really look like they were going to win they spent like 8 mana in their opening turns discarding cards out of SO's hand that amounted to nothing
So even if that player didn't thoughtseize, you still win ironically because you topdecked another footfall crater, so you couldhave given the 8/8 trample as well.
Oh noo 😱at 28:00. You could have fetched one more basic, but it didn't register one of the clicks. That chump should have resulted in a trade. Probably didn't change the outcome though.
What a strange deck that first opponent was playing. Seems cool with all the planewalkers, but whats the win condition, just decking out? Is that even viable?
Tutoring mountains bit you several times when an island or forest would have helped. Why are there so many basic mountains? And why do you keep picking them
i only like superfriends if the pilot knows what their doing because it feels like superfriends is one of those decks that will just be miserable to play against, not because of its power or whatever but because its just so slow if the pilot doesnt know what theyre doing
Best intro yet with Bear's cameo
came to comment for the same reason lol
We love Bear!
Bearit Lage!
I live about an hour and a half west of Seth, so I appreciate the shut out to WNY weather
I don't know there have been some pretty good intros
“Hello everyone. Its Seth. PROOOOOBABLY better known as SaffronOlive. And its time for another edition of ‘Against the Gods’. And today, we’re going to be traveling to the Mountains of Madness to fight the eldritch gods within!”
I would totally watch that. Great book.
What do you think, Bear? Can you give me your best “I’m not afraid of incomprehensible beings beyond the bounds of sanity” face?
AAAAAgainst the Gods time!
@@gochadcyou would watch a book?
Though the Planeswalkers are so powerful that they are very nearly Gods of Earth themselves, they do not understand the mysteries of the Gods of Outside.
This has got to be the most comfy intro I've seen for an MTG video. And this was the deck I voted for too! Very sweet!
Glad you liked it, and thanks for voting!
Loooove the intro! We need much more Bear!
Ah, I see that the New York winter is treating you well, Seth. Stay warm this weekend!

I do love that card
Harvest Season with the new Dryad Arbor X spell. WEW LAD
“Our Crim opponent” 😂
Wish they had crowd surfed the Karn
The scry 1 on marit lages slumber is so good, getting to scry every turn makes things quite consistent!

Marit Lage? You mean… Bear-it Lage?
Hahaha yes!
“And the opponent chooses death.” -Seth better known as SafronOlive
If you could tattoo a video on yourself, then you should do the one where you commandeer/strip mined Tomer. That was legendary. xD
@28:00 you took 5 lands instead of 6, was it a misclick?

Would’ve loved to have had a Bear (dog) cam every time you mentioned Bear (bear).
It is profoundly funny to call one shoting a players 20 life total with a 20/20 "exact-ies" like technically yes, but also.
Where’s the lie 😎
Love how the Grixis opponent was annoying you for 15 turns, but didn't even deal damage you below 20 in the end 🤭
Ok, that intro was pretty great. Well done, Seth Better Known As Snowit Lage!
Often times Against the Odds' backup plan outshine the main plan but here even when you're beating down you're still doing it with snow.
Bearit Lage.
Every time Seth makes a snow deck my impression is the same. This deck is sooooo much better than it should be. Lol
I love superfriends. I'd watch whatever you make, but super friends is cool so I'm down.
It always surprised me too!
The pronounciation of marit lage to marit lâje was too funny 😂
I would think that is the usual English pronunciation of the name. Compare "page", "sage", "age", etc etc.
BEST INTRO EVER
More super friends depends on how they are build. I'd love all sorts of not-control super friends. However Esper or grixis control super friends is just not fun anymore. Agro or combo super friends?
The fact that there is no Tatyova as a backup wincon is my sole gripe with the list. Also Awaken the woods in the sideboard.
Someone should make a custom set with all of Seth's mispronunciations as variations on the original cards.
- "Brothershood End"
- "Shadowsphere"
- "Yarion" could be a pirate

Da bear! XD So many others too, haha.

36:29 Ah yes, can't win with 2 additionnal creatures and 1 defending creature
Best video intro ever?
more bear intros pls!

this deck is pretty fun !! I recommend running Maskwood Nexus too, it makes stuff get really really spicy

I think I like Kazuul's fury over the cycler enchantment.
Videos need more Bear!
Here for the alpine moon in the sideboard and bear.
28:05 why don't you take all 6 to kill the golem ?
Wasn't sure if I was gonna watch the whole video but the intro didn't even leave me a choice.
Loved the video thanks for all you do
At 28:05 Seth, you traverse and you can choose 6, which would make your bears lethal vs sundering titan, but you misclicked and clicked only 5. Soooo yeah maybe slow down when you're clicking. You'll also notice your bears go from 6 to 11 power, which is only 5... so that's a giga punt
Ohh, I didn't even realized I did that. Good call!
Bearit lage for the win
54:00 I'm guessing they forgot about the haste enchantment and were going with the plan of tucking the token instead.
This is the best intro. Touching grass but still playing MTG.
A deck where the threats are Marit Lage and a bear? How did we not call it Bear-it Lage?
PreVideo prediction - if Marit Lage wasnt a token, but the echantment transformed it would be pretty good, but the fact bounce can kill it is prob gonna mean too much interaction possibility for it to be too good.
Thumbs up just for that opening. I'm a Truck driver and I felt that snow on my beard. 😂
5:28 "these kraken are very good for exiling cause we're nowhere near casting them"... literally one island away form casting it xD
Who would win: All the planeswalkers or one Noodly Girl?
My god. I love Bear.
Big fan of Merit Lodge. Imagine playing it with Merit Lage.
That is such a cute Marit Lage drawing ❤️
Amazing Marit Lage face!
Echoing all the love for Bear! Never enough Bear
Some of these games convince me that Arena zoomers need remedial lessons about Stax.
What kind of monster would teach such a lesson ;)
Seth out in the snow with Bear is the best intro ever.
Always thought Bear was a smaller dog. Silly, I know.
He's huge!

Seth saying all possible incorrect pronunciations of 'Aldergard' killed me. 38:37 "Oldguard", "Aldergrad", (looks closer), "ALDERgrad".
As far as Super Friends go I like the archetype when the deck uses weird or under used PWs. I don't need to see a bunch of Narsets and Teferis that are in every blue list.

Superfriends are never fun to play against. Too much built in card advantage that too hard to build against (not enough global PW-destruction)
Who would win?
A faceless horror from beyond space and time?
OR
A mana rock.
The answer *may* surprise you...
I got a 19/19 Fiend artisan with hexproof, hast, and menace in my God's Pharoah gift deck in explorer. Lol
I enjoy a fun, budget friendly super friends deck. I have a fairly powered down atraxa superfriends control deck in commander
36:30 “if our opponent hadn’t thoughtseized we wouldn’t have been able to win”
Kraken and Stomper sitting there like, wtf?
i only like superfriends if the pilot knows what their doing because it feels like superfriends is one of those decks that will just be miserable to play against, not because of its power or whatever but because its just so slow if the pilot doesnt know what theyre doing
Hellraiser dragonstorm combo
Super friends... sigh - I dunno. Kinda depends if they are cool super friends... like sunglasses Tefferi; and face tattoo Jace.
Sad there’s no cool animation for Marit lage :/
Seriously. If anything deserves an epic animation its Marit Lage.
Does Bear know you're talking to other bears?
shhhh
With keruga they can still play brazen borrower and bone crusher as cheap removal. Maybe split cards too but I'm not sure about that.
I'm a trucker and drove thru the Ithaca area for the first time. What a beautiful part of the country
Yeah, I grew up here and hated it, but after moving away and coming back I realize it is super beautiful.
Man I don't even mind control but r1 opponent's deck looks both miserable and bad? Like it's not even playing the best cards
The rare time Seth actually corrects his pronunciation.. but he was right the first time! Aldergard > Aldergrad lol
Brother´shood end, Excape to the wild and Spirit of Aldgard... Are you doing this on purpose by now?
"if the opponent didn't thought siexe there was no way we win"
oppenent has 1 non flying blocker and Saff has 3 attackers lol
If I was the first opponent I would have milled myself with ashiok to get flashback value or turn in azcanta faster
