@@troyb4533 And film and game studios alike need to stop remaking everything. They do it because games and movies are so expensive to make now that they don't want to take risks.
They have a formula where if it's a remake they are guaranteed X amount of dollars returned.
They can't use that formula with new intellectual property which can just flop with no one buying it.

@@markwheeler4245 Okay but, it was always known in horror games back at the time that you button mash if an enemy grapples you to get it off faster. It's not an entirely new thing, it's always been there, it's just that they're showing it on screen now. Bearing in mind we're talking 20 years on, where info like that would be revealed through loading screens or gaming manuals inside the case, that kind of thing has diminished. Plenty of people just purchase things digitally now, and loading screens are becoming a thing of the past. How else are they to reveal these sort of mechanics other than prompting on screen? A good thing that some games offer is hiding HUD elements such as prompts, which the game may well have.
I know some players have a visceral reaction to things like these, but if they think calmy about the reasons why, they might change their perspective a little.

This is how you make a good video, without a click-bait title. Probably the most calm, fair, and well presented video I've seen yet about SH2-R. Thank you for this, as I really think Bloober needs more people supporting them in a fair and objective way. Too many people want this game to fail no matter what which is tragic and sad. I agree with the CEO, in that if we get to see the game in normal gameplay in proper context, people will see its more like the original (with a modern update) than the combat trailer gives off. The old SH2 trailer ironically also highlighted non-stop combat mixed with CG cut scenes, so I think people are being a bit unfair and making huge assumptions here. I think the biggest issue in the combat trailer was the reduced frame rate, which I have a feeling the actual game (today) looks much better than the combat trailer shows. That trailer was on PS5, so it may be locked to 30fps. I have a good PC so I'm lucky in that I'll have a good frame rate with the game regardless. Both The Medium and LOF 2023 look amazing on my PC in 4K at 120+ fps with ray tracing.

I rented Silent Hill for PS1 on a whim from blockbuster when it hit the shelves in 99. I sat alone in my room, and when those first sirens started, felt fear, excitement, and anxiety as I said to myself: "This is gonna be good..."
Similar situations for SH2, 3, and 4 to an extent.
Some of my favorite games over the last decade are Layers of fear 1 and 2, and the mostly forgotten (but amazing) Observer.
After seeing the remake trailers.. I'm not sure what everyone is worried about.. it looks great, and let's be fair, the combat needed a bit of an overhaul. Bloober creates games that get to you almost entirely on sustained atmosphere (SH's bread and butter), so I have little doubt the updated combat will just be a bit of icing on the cake. @CycloneFox 3 месяца назад

I think one of the problems is that with a previous interview, a Bloober director said something along the lines of that they will be focusing more on action oriented games, including Silent Hill 2. And this planted the wrong idea into people's minds, which now got followed up by Konami releasing a "combat reveal trailer" for Silent Hill 2. But what goes over everyone's head are the kinds of games, Bloober made before Silent Hill 2. Their previous games, even Medium, which had a bigger budget than previous titles, didn't have any combat. So speaking from their perspective, a game where you can pick up a steel pipe and mash enemies or even a gun with limited ammo, IS a more action-focused game. But saying something like "going forward we're concentrating more on action" places the totally wrong idea in people's head. Well and Konami releasing a combat focused trailer absolutely took the cake.
Looking at it from this perspective, it makes total sense, what the director of Bloober studio said there now about the trailer not reflecting the actual game's spirit.
Edit: Putting the misdirected community expectations and mismanagement of that aside, there is actually something I really like about the encounters in the combat reveal trailer. And I think it really builds on the experience we're later going to have when actually playing the game. Almost to a Yoko-taro-like level where they intentionally put stuff in the trailer that makes no sense when you actually play the game yourself and which keeps lingering in your head. Well, maybe not THAT ingeniously...
And that has to do with enemy crowds and how they move. The trailer casually shows probably the biggest amounts of enemies you can have at a time. Like in the empty swimming pool. That is one of the places in Silent Hill 2, where you had to fight three enemies at once, which was incredibly annoying. I think that if you now play the game, where the first of these enemies gets introduced and you barely beat him with your steel pipe, the thought that you already saw in the trailer that you will later encounter groups of them is unnerving.
Another aspect is the nurse vaulting a wall. People find it ridiculous and it reminds them of military action games. But to me it just tells me that you won't be able to easily outpace enemies by locking them in the environment or something like that. To me, this actually makes the enemies scarier. I like it that that was included. And of course, it was made on purpose. It's just very sad that people totally go the wrong idea because of the aforementioned misdirection of expectations.

Shadow of the Colossus was not "remade." It was heavily remastered but was indeed the original game running. Bluepoint lied about remaking it, then claimed that calling it a remake was justified to them because they updated the visual assets within the game. However, this is blatantly false logic. Just because you update the visual assets in an existing game, does not mean you recreated the game. All original code is operating the updated Shadow of the Colossus that released on PS4. In fact, Bluepoint faced massive backlash from within the industry and were even threatened with a class action lawsuit for misinforming the consumers. This also happened when they falsely claimed their updated version of Demon's Souls was a "remake." However, Demon's Souls was remastered in the same way they remastered Shadow of the Colossus. Updated visual assets and a few other bells and whistles like minor tweaks to gameplay mechanics.

Silent Hill 2 was re-relased for PS3 along with SH3 as the HD-Collection. That's part of why people are dead set this better not be a screw-up. The HD Collection versions of those games were a blatant rip-off money-grab by Konami.

When watching the gameplay footage of the combat scene, it's very hard to believe that this game is based on UE5 technology. It looks, at times, quite similar to the best PS3 games back in the time. I hope that the showcased combat footage was indeed from a very early stage of the game, as claimed. But why? Did Konami really interfere with the marketing to this extent, forcing Bloober to release only early build material?

I love action horror games if done correctly, as long as the over all tone and atmosphere is still tense and depressive like the original and keeps the same “mature themes” without neutering it to satisfy a modern audience I think this game will flourish. Re2 remake was a massive success because it kept the core spirit of the game while making the game really fun to play. Silent hill 2 is certainly an amazing game and very replay able but we can all agree that it definitely not fun in the combat department I mean the boss fights are a joke especially pyramid head you just run back and forth for a few minutes. Silent hill 2 is masterclass when it comes to atmosphere and sound design if they nail that then it will be great for example the wood side apartments is the most tense level I’ve ever played with dark corridors, emotional encounters, puzzles and excellent music.

The atmosphere and story are the most important parts of a Silent Hill game. Even though apparently the combat animations have been drastically improved since this is a year old trailer according to Bloober, I actually think having it look a bit janky would help with that uncanny atmosphere. Having it look slightly off, would only add to that “something is not quite right” feeling that the original game has. Why does everybody want hyper realistic combat?

  • @cescatilly
    @cescatilly 3 месяца назад

I thought it was so funny that people got so uptight about this trailer saying that they’ve changed the game with too much combat. It’s literally called a ‘combat trailer’, they’re focusing on the combat mainly, not the story or the atmosphere etc. so I’m still holding out hope that the game will be great, some hints of the atmosphere that we get looks brilliant.
I would love to see a trailer showing the more quiet and suspenseful and eerie parts of the game. I wouldn’t even care if it was just a walking around and puzzle solving trailer, at least that would give an idea of the overall atmosphere.

Main critique of RE2 remake, as I understand, was fact than now you can shot enemies while at hem aiming manually. It's now easy to chose enemy you will shot, and you can focus body parts. This lead to enemies became more resilient to fire. But you can't just left everything like it was and add free aim. In Classic Residents when you shot from piston, there was no such thing as headshot, every shot was headshot, and some guns, depending on game had critical chance. Now you can aim at head AND it have critical chance to blow it up, but I guess not if you aim at body. So they reworked everything in such way, so zombie still will be threat, and at lesser count. As I remember original RE2 had few places that contained about 5 zombies at once, or even more, at Police Station. I think even with shotgun it would be problem in RE2 remake.
Silent Hill had very similar fight system, one of differences - there was no critical hits, I think, at least visually. First SH had system that, I think, make you miss shots, if you fire while moving or something like that, and maybe distance mattered too, I'm not sure. I think if they do game with free aim, and since SH didn't allowed to change direction of shoting (up/down like in RE), headshots also gonna matter, and it's mean enemies also became more resilient or more numerous(one of those trailers left feeling that they gonna pour enemies at you, like it some The Suffering) Tho I really hope fighting system will not turn into Homecoming. It wasn't that bad, fighting system I mean, every enemy felt differently, every enemy required different approach, not like that Stray Souls сrар, as example. But it didn't felt like Silent Hill at all.

I think people are stressing out too much with this game. The combat trailer didn't show anything that wasn't already in the original with the exception of the quick-time event. The "swarm" of lying figures in the swimming pool was even in the original. I personally don't mind the quick-time event as it draws emphasis on how dangerous the enemies can be, they are after all representative of James' chronic stress and guilt, both of which can be very harmful to the human body.
There could never have been a 1:1 remake, people need to think about how there are no longer loading screens between rooms, which would be frustrating to deal with without the means to stop enemies from chasing you from room to room. In the original, you could run past enemies and retreat to another room, where the enemies effectively cease to exist until you left that room. Additionally, if there wasn't effective means to defeat the enemies you would have to wander around in complete darkness to avoid enemy detection and if the game remains true to the original, you cannot even look at the map in a dark area without the flashlight on. The only way to keep combat encounters from feeling 'too action oriented' is to purposefully make the combat frustrating and ineffective, or remove the enemies entirely. All three decisions would result in negative reception among hardcore SH2 fans.
The biggest fans of the original are probably not going to like the remake because it is sacred to them in one way or another, and it is of course a great game, but there is objectively no way to handle a modernized remake of SH2 other than this as far as I can see. The original animations were very clunky, the hit detection was odd at times and James isn't very reactive to anything outside of cutscenes. In order to modernize a game like this, you have to essentially disrupt the entire aesthetic of the original and rebuild it based off of the look and tone of the game alone. Doing so is no small task and will most certainly result in some mixed feelings among hardcore SH2 fanatics.
Long comment, I know but I think that the real Silent Hill fans should critically think about how a game like SH2 would be depicted if it were released for the first time in 2024, with no prior release in 2001. I think they will find that it would look a lot like what we have seen in the trailers, just handled more carefully in terms of presentation.

Nothing in the combat trailer makes me think that combat is over emphasized. You are definitely swarmed in sh2 and have to fight off several enemies at once in tight spaces. No, it’s not every room or around every corner, but it happens. The trailer doesn’t show anything that would make me think that is changing for better or worse. I think gamers often love to complain together to be a part of something, but it’s usually way overblown if you’re not a basement dwelling super fan. SH2 was smart for going over the shoulder like RE did and really i expected no less, i was originally hoping it would be made in the RE engine but that was a reach. Konami is a joke, everybody knows. I do have faith in blooper from everything ive seen. I think there's some real fans working on it for sure n it makes me happy to see.

Personally I think the “combat trailer” was more to show off the creature designs and a few other aspects of the game
I don’t think that the combat trailer was supposed to be to show off the combat

You can't do much without ammo, people who saw the trailer will get a big surprise of the town in that aspect. Even on Homecoming that's a SH factor, you can't get too much bullets.

I need to see the final product. I saw a 7 sec clip of a superior polished game and a nurse animation being much better. I will give my final judgment based on the last trailer.

Really underestimating Konami here folks. The man is a genius. Said it yourself he is in charge of marketing! Released these clips intentionally to get everyone talking about silent Hill 2. Negative talk is more populate than good. Bang game markets itself, as I'm seeing it all over my socials ❤

In my opinion, if they include in the main menu the option of just playing the original, it will justify the price of the game.

just have them do a mod over Resident Evil 4 Remake, change the scenarios, monsters and just the clothes of the characters... (fortunately, James has the same haircut as Leon) it will be perfect :)

septic about UE engine that gives typical plasticine visual feel and look (out of the box). It's like that 100% materialized dimension wich you cant really escape from (no matter how hard youre trying), unlike like ghosts wich are in cross multi effect

The whole thing is way blown out of proportion considering it was literally "Combat Reveal Trailer". As such it should be focused on combat, does not mean that it's the whole focus of the game.
And someone should remind all the toxic "fans" that the original could be considered an "action game" if you want to achieve a perfect rank for which one of the requirements was to kill a minimum of 150 enemies in a relatively short game.
There is some minor things that will hopefully be sorted out by release date, mainly the weapon sound and the damage effects on enemies, but other than that, I would say there is nothing wrong with what we've seen so far.
