- Canoeing the Great Glen and Caledonian Canal in Scotland.
With my daughter Maya and Billie the dog.
Day 2: Loch Lochy, Loch Oich and Fort Augustus to Loch Ness in this episode.
The trip is some 97km or 60 miles. This time were were to spend three and a half days doing the trip. Normally when I guide it I allow five days. Paddling tandem I have paddled it in a single day (tandem with Chris Charlton).
Day 1 of the trip is: • Canoeing Across Scotla...

We had paid for a facilities key from the canal office at Corpach. Payment is per person not per key although they took one look at Maya and only charged me for one. Please don’t abuse this and pay for one when you are a group. The facilities are good and have to be financed. There are few places that go out of the way to welcome us as paddlers.

So beautiful to see you and you daughter enjoying being on the water.
Thank you so much for your kind comment
In the GBS videos, one speaker noted that at his daughter's woodland birthday party, his daughter was quite at home in the forest, while her guests were showing difficulty and consternation dodging branches and finding pathways. He realized how accustomed his daughter was to the bush compared to children who were not exposed to it. In this video, when that paddle fell off the canoe, Maya casually, and quite calmly picked up another paddle and simply fished that fallen paddle out, as a natural event, not too concerning. She is at home in that environment. Well done Ray!
Great insight. Perhaps I drop paddles too often 😅 Thank you
@@RayGoodwinCanoe in that case, she's learned to flow with you without skipping a beat. You're a great team!
That was Jason Ingamells if I recall correctly
Awesome Ray, priceless memories
It was tremendous to do this trip with Maya. Thank you
@@RayGoodwinCanoe Well done to you both!
Whilst watching I remembered Jerry Vandiver’s track Canoeing with Daddy, the one with Kevin’s daughter.
Great track. For others the link is: ruclips.net/video/GJ-XNbg4Cxs/видео.html
Awesome those put in booms are harsh on your boat
But they do the job😁
Lovely! Really enjoying your trip Ray and Maya!
Really chuffed you are enjoying it. Working on final part at present.
Thanks
You are most welcome
I'm predicting Maya's next video will be titled "Mounting a sail where it won't beat up the bow paddler".
That made me sputter my tea, first coffee going on in a minute, now wiping screen. Yep I think I need a different set up.
@@RayGoodwinCanoe 😆🤣 Time for bed here.
@@philschaefer4651 sleep well.
Well done guys, Maya, my son can soooooooo relate to your pain when being hit that boom🤕🤭
I will pass that onto Maya. Maybe a little consolation.
Great to see you still making memories.
Looking forward to the next Spey trip.
Trying hard with the trips. Yep Spey will be good.
... Looked like a wonderful paddle and outing with Maya and Billie ..
... Agree, the picture of Maya leading on the carry is priceless ...
... Q : what is the maker of the sail ??
Great times. My favourite picture of the two of us. Sail is by: www.endlessriver.co.uk/canoe-gear/sailing/
My wife Mandy can sympathise with Maya, as she too gets "clonked" around the back of her head with my sail boom. I have experimented with a shorter boom to prevent this.
Also, I have always liked the Squiffy 16 as a tandem boat (I know they are a capable solo too), but Mandy didn't want to sell her Reflection to fund it......
Looking forward to prt 3 :)
Yep I need to look at a different set up. Yep the Esquif Prospector is good.
Great stuff Ray
Thank you sir. Appreciated
Looks like you had a great trip Ray, we have seen Maya grow and develop over the years, she is a very confident and competent paddler even in the rough stuff thanks to your teaching, I hope your journey ended well and look forward to the next installment, many thanks again for sharing, Nige. 👍👍🦴🦴 don't forget Billy 😀
Thanks Nigel. It is interesting where she is confident and where really she wants me just to tell her what to do. But she is good and it was great having just the three of us on the trip. Maya, Billie and dad time.
