I've seen a lot of filter comparison videos (hmm, maybe I need to get a life), but I have NEVER seen someone actually test a companies claims by taking a knife to the filter. Awesome!

Gobe Filters are a great budget friendly option. No color cast or Vignette. And they plant trees for every filter you buy.

I almost got one of their filters to test out!!

Have to agree as long as it doesn’t reduce sharpness or produce a color cast your all good.

I have a few of the K&F Concept filters and gear. They're usually pretty good. They make nice bags and I have a few of them. People that I know who have also bought their tripods have liked them, as well. However, for the dearer filters I have a Cokin system (can't afford Nisi or Lee filters, since I'm on a budget) and they do me quite well. When you're not so flush with cash, you need to shop around and try out a few filter brands and types, to see which ones work for you for what you shoot.

thanks Sarah - really helpful and will investigate the K&F options!

I have a few K&F filters including a variable ND that I like for video and I have been very happy with the performance of all of them. I'm not planning to attack my filters with a knife but it is reassuring to see they are so durable.

This was good to know. I am a B+W fan but like you said, they can get quite pricy for what they do.
I just dove into the Z system and I want to start fresh with my landscape gear. K&F is a good photo gear company in my experience and looks to be the call for ND filters.... a little tick of the exposure slider and vignetting slider in Lr is quick and easy to deal with.

I use Gobe filters and they work great. the best thing I picked up was the nomatic filter case, it can hold all my 77mm filters without the bulk and weight of all the individual cases.

Sounds like an interesting case!! I will have to check it out!

Thanks for this, Sarah. I mainly shoot wildlife, but have been tinkering with Winterscapes recently; and thought I might try some long exposures to get more interesting skies. I did not want to spend an arm and a leg, however; so after seeing your video, I ordered both 77 and 82mm K&F Concept 10-stop ND filters. Like others have mentioned, I was concerned about the IQ; but your review has helped remove that doubt. Filters should be here on Tuesday.

I have both the 6-stop and the 10-stop in square and they work amazingly great. Have not found any problem with color casting. no vignette in them either. Thanks for a nice video, and a grat test too

Thanks, this is incredibly useful! I have been wanting a 10-stop ND for years now, but the price tag on all the systems is just sooo enormous that I haven't been able to justify spending the $$. However, I don't mind spending $40 to play around and see if I use it enough to maybe one day upgrade to one of the "serious" systems.

I can't afford some of the more expensive high-end filters so I actually have a few K&F ones and I'm quite happy with them.

Interesting that there's a difference in filter strength.
Did you by any chance do a test to see which of the filters is truer to an actual 10 stops filter, by comparing both to an unfiltered baseline exposure 10 stops faster than your filtered test shots, taken under same light? I'm curious to see which one is really 10 stops although I suspect that the B+W is perhaps a bit less than 10 stops and the K+F Concept a bit more than 10 stops?

I have the X30 and I found the camera storage was too small for the size of the bag, and the side access to fiddly to get the camera in and out. I did have the Nikon z9 and it was far too big for the rucksack.

Great video mate, very informative. Nice to know you don’t have to sell a kidney for decent filters. Additionally, I’d definitely be less heartbroken dropping and cracking a $40 filter than my $250 filter 😵

I have dropped the more expensive filters. 3 to be exact and I paid for them all. Thanks for watching the video and I am happy you found it informative! 💕

This "real world use" review is really helpful. I have been using Breakthrough X2 (mid-range) circular filters for my landscape photography, and have been happy with them. I am thinking about switching to a magnetic circular filter system - any thoughts?

    • @sarahlyndsay
      @sarahlyndsay  3 года назад

Yes! I use a magnetic circular filter system (I have quite a few different filters) and I love them! I use Kase filters.

  • @BrandonBrand0

Very helpful! I was looking at that exact k&f filter a could weeks ago but was a bit concerned about what the image quality would be like for $40 and ended up deciding to save up for a more well known brand. Might need to revisit that decision now and save some money!
Maybe a future video on the gear you think it's worth spending a little extra on. Vs whats not?
    Thanks!

I think Ollie wanted to get kissed again or he just didn't know what happened. I have the Bn' W circular polariser and yes they are pricey. I guess my rational was you get what you pay for. Who knows. I will look out that K F next time round

Yea it feels like a bit of a sting when a product is much less in price but just as good!
