Thank you for this well filmed series of videos. I have found them very helpful, especially breaking it down into 5 sections, from the pencil sketch to the finished painting. I appreciate how much work must go in to the filming, so thanks to your behind the scenes, camera crew too!
Thank you for this series, it was informative and a delight to watch. I would never have thought of tackling something like this but the way you broke it down has made me think there's no reason not to give it a go. This was a very generous demonstration!
Thank you again! Excellent demonstration and invaluable education! Also, please thank your son and wife. They are doing a very professional job. Very generous of all of you!
I'm always fascinated by the way you paint the sky. Usually it is painted at the beginning of work, and you started the picture from a tree. I love that you are a talented artist, Andrew. Thank you for your classes.
Fascinating. I really thought you were over working it at the end with the thick treacly paint and scratching out but it all came together beautifully. A touch of magic. Many thanks
This is my 2nd time around watching this series for beginners over the last year. I'm always in awe at your natural instinct to pick up and blend colours to achieve tonal values. Rachels camera work is superb, thank you for helping Andrew make these wonderful tutorials...Now I need to pick up my brushes and just give it a go! Thanks again
A wonderful set of videos Andrew, you really are the most instructive of watercolour artists on RUclips. No need to reply, I know you're busy. Thank you.
That was a wonderful series Andrew. I love the way you decide on a colour blend and then lay it down confidently, resisting the temptation to rework it. It all comes together beautifully. I suppose it’s ultimately down to confidence. Great camerawork and editing too. Thank you all for putting so much effort into these videos.
Bravo!I love the 'touch the paper only once' idea. It makes so much sense and it makes you more thoughtful and careful as you apply the colours. And I also love how you keep changing up the mixture of colours by returning to palette and adding something else to change the colour mix a little before heading back to the paper. I am so inspired! Very inspirational! :)
Excellent tutorial as always! I look forward to your videos and I especially enjoy these focused segments. I purchased the hardcover publication of your book, Seasons and Reflections, and whole-heartedly recommend it to your subscribers on this channel and anyone with an interest in watercolour. Not only is it packed with useful information, but it is written with great sympathy for the challenges faced by artists regardless how far along we may be in our journey. Thank you!
My, my. This was wonderful. I received you new book this morning and have read it once so far. It really helped me as watching and following along with this series. I am such a rule follower and never could get my paintings to work. You have opened my eyes. I am so excited about painting now. I’m fairly new, and my teacher introduced me to your work. I am amazed and thrilled. Now if I can just get some sleep as I tend to think all night about what I can do. Thank you so much!
Thank you for this wonderful series -- I love how you took a pretty setting that had potential and made it into a gorgeous painting. At the end, I can fully appreciate how important the sketch with the darkest tones was... Outstanding in so many ways!!
Thank you Mr. Pitt, your video’s are wonderful!! I’m happy to report that my second painting that is a copy of this cottage not far from your home was a success. I am going to have this one framed. Oh, it’s not perfect by any means, but good enough to frame (for me). I hope you’ll continue to bless us all with your knowledge of watercolor and your beautiful paintings. Now, it’s time for me to use my own photo’s and see if I can put into practice what I’ve learned from you. Many thanks, Susie ~
Just an excellent series. Thank you for sharing your skills and gifts with the world. Truly inspiring. Just love your presentation style, too. Well done!
Hi Andrew - Thank you for that wonderful demo. Too advanced for me right now. One of the things I am going to do is set up a palette like yours - I mean the colours. I have too many colours in mine right now and I get all confused when I need to be able to mix quickly and accurately. I like how you try to only paint something once as well. Very exciting demo.
Thank you for this lovely painting!!! The demo was wonderfully helpful. I loved your sketch of the scene becaus it helped me see that I try to paint too much of what I see. Simplification is something I strugle with.Thank you again.
I just finished watching this along with some of your other videos for the second time. It's a lovely painting and now I'm inspired to try something similar myself. Thanks!
Thank you for sharing your knowledge and philosophy of watercolor. I will try to pass it on to whomever I might teach watercolor. I've learned a lot from your videos. Very well done
Magnifica demostración de los pasos que hay seguir en el proceso pictórico. Cinco vídeos magistrales que te enseñan desde el principio con el boceto hasta finalizar la obra. Enhorabuena Andrew.
Wow! That last few minutes where you put in the very dark green and some other elements! I so would have mangled that and ruined the whole picture. Terrific instruction. Beautiful painting! Thanks!
Thanks for getting in touch. Yes, I have written a book on watercolour painting, “Seasons and Reflections: Notes on Painting in Watercolour”. There are more details on my website, www.andrewpitt.co.uk Please email me if you are interested in a copy at info@andrewpitt.co.uk
This was a great series-very helpful for this beginner. I tried a somewhat different version and found it to be an excellent learning experience. The brick wall was a lot of fun! I have since gone back and watched all 5 again. Once I finish my current project, I think I’ll go back and try this once more. Your explanations of both the how and the why of the way things are done is excellent. Thank you very, very much. P.S. Loved your book and am going to re-read that as well!
Many thanks for your kind and generous comments. In case you don’t know, there are more free-to-watch videos on my website, www.andrewpitt.co.uk Happy painting.
Thank you for the great instructions. I have learned so much from your videos. I love your style of painting! Could you demonstrate a Caribbean beach scene looking out from dunes with distant sailboats? I never feel I know how to bring the water up onto beach effectively.
I will try, although I don’t really paint places I have never been, but we have dunes, beaches and sailing boats on our coast here in the UK. www.andrewpitt.co.uk
I just discovered your work, and these fantastic educational video's. And on top of this you are in the area of Norwich if I am correct. Where dear friends live. I am in the Netherlands. I am going to paint with your teaching in mind. Looking forward to it! Thank you so much. 😊
A point that Hazel Soan makes in 10 Minute Watercolours, is that we should ask ourselves if we’re striving for accuracy or ambiguity and advocates the latter. This allows the viewer to fill in the details themselves. Thanks for this series.
Thank you for taking the time to encourage others. I particularly like the way you keep the freshness in the picture by just one layer, but my question is how do you judge the tone of the colour to get it right first time? thanks
Thanks for getting in touch. A good question. I find the first wash is the hardest to get right because there isn’t anything to compare it with. I try to start with an easy area I am confident I can paint fairly accurately. After that it is a matter of always comparing subsequent tones - are they darker or lighter than the tone I began with. Hope this helps. It is not an exact science and I often get it wrong.
I’ve not heard of ‘’lucite’’. My drawing board frame is made of clear 2 or 3 mm acrylic. It is difficult to cut at home without cracking. Best to find a company with a laser cutter. www.andrewpitt.co.uk
