Very informitive Mike as always, but the CAT C and D labels are no longer current. Damaged cars are now labelled as CAT N ( Non structural) and CAT S (Structural) damage. The legacy CAT C and D labels are still out there, but wont be applied to cars wrtitten off now.

Isn't there also an issue with getting the car reinsured after it has been classified as a write off ? Several years ago I had a car that was written off by the insurance company, as it was only panel damage I bought the car back from them and thoroughly repaired it. However when I tried to insure it, I could only get 3rd party because of its history. Does this still apply today?

I’m looking at a cat d VW golf. 33k miles 2015 model. It drives fine but the VW logo is not quite centre to the bonnet by a few millimetres. Would you advise to stay clear.

the buzzer is there to wake you up,
