Absolutely. The Service advisor of the Aston Garage/dealership to which I took my 2006 Aston Martin DB9 for tyres and brakes said to me, when I mentioned electric vehicles, "Why would you buy a gasoline powered car? My answer was very simple: I bought it because it goes Brrrrooooom= Brooom - Broom and whines when I drive and change gears,; because I can change down from 4th to 3rd to second and feel it respond by gripping the road. I can FEEL it. It is an animal that lives, and it's not a sewing machine with wheels.
I agree Mike about all your points. This year I have been looking at electric cars, Porsche Tycan, the MB EOS, but instead I bought 12 cylinder amazing cars that I always look forward to good weather to take them on a drive. Your input helped me on 2 purchases and I thank you. I will get up to see you in February I hope depending on travel.
Great points Mike. The self driving auto is a long way off for start to end travel, but autonomy on highways and certain roads could have vehicles co-mingle. Downtown not so much. I have wanted to see a true total cost of the ownership of an electric vehicle, from mining to manufacture, operation (electricity cost & environmental cost) to disposal (20 years say), compared to a comparable ICE vehicle also from mining to operation and disposal. Then let the facts speak for themselves. Measuring just the electric you put in vs. the gas (petrol) is a very small part of the overall picture. Politicians know how to milk the short term memory and attention span of their constituents unfortunately.
Mike, great to see someone saying it as it is for once. You only need to see how many influential politicians, business owners and landed gentry own expensive supercars and large displacement engined cars. We are a motoring nation. It's in our DNA..so while attitudes may shift for a while...when more and more people go electric and they realise the electricity to charge them is going through the roof and charging points get taxed as well as insuring them goes sky high due to limited repair centres...the penny will drop..when they are not subsidised heavily and they cost as much to run as a normal car...with no enjoyment factor...people will want the nostalgia factor of a naturally aspirated V12 or V8..so like a nice watch they become very desirable but used for pleasure only...
Fantastic vid. Thanks! Now heres another little spanner in the works for Electric cars - fuel duty totals £21bn of tax contribution annually to the UK gov...This comes 100% from fuel and 0% from electric cars...this balance will have to shift at some point. Let's park that point. Now let's appraise the cost to fill up a ICE car with 10 gallons...lets say thats 300 miles worth: petrol = £65 of which £45 is tax and £20 is the product. The cost to fill up a 100kw electric vehicle (roughly 300 miles...apparently) is currently 30p per KW at Public stations: 100kw = £30. Add to this that electricty (KW) prices have increased 70% in 10 years and 30% in last 12 months alone whilst Petrol has risen only 5% during this time (2011 average liter was circa 135p).... So what does this all mean.... 1) without tax its currently 50% more expensive to fuel an electric car unless you fill at home on special (temporary) rate. 2) after 75k miles the electric batteries operate at 75% capacity. Therefore range drops by 25%... Thats a terrible statistic no one mentions - that ipace with a real life 280 mile range is now 200 miles... 3) When the government needs to claw back the lost tax from reduced fuel tax it will be added to electricity rates...add this to a frcst continual rise in cost of electricity and it will get more and more expensive to run an electric vehicle. All food for thought...either way I will continue to enjoy my XKR for years to come for sure
If the government is promoting something they have an agenda which only benefits them as they are not your friend. The government also wants everyone to have a smart meter so they can monitor power consumption and also know when you have an electric car plugged in so you will be charged a higher tariff. If every house had a basic 16kw charger on their drive you'd need a sub station on every street so i'm not sure how charging will be solved. The only other place to charge is fuel stations and someones usually charging so you have to wait or it won't accept your card or it just won't work so for now unless you have a home charger don't buy one. Sadiq khans ulez expansion will kill also off alot of vehicles which is just the same as having ev's pushed in your face.
Your dead pan delivery of those zingers towards Bentley absolutely killed me. Your take on Shapps is bang on. He's a clueless fister mired in the most abominable hypocrisy.
Blimey Mike. Don't hold back :) B.t.w. do you have an opinion on hydrogen and internal combustion? I watched the interview with Lord Bamford (JCB) on the Harry's Garage RUclips channel. Interesting, but maybe not for every application or everyone??
We now have Twenty is Plenty eco zealots trying to reduce the speed limits to 20 even in the countryside. Sorry but if you take your Aston for a service at Bamford Rose in Halford you have to brave a 30 minute slow drive through Alderminster and Pillerton Priors. And be overtaken by cyclists peddling at 30 mph with two fingers in the air. And by the way a cyclist emits more excess CO2 per peddled mile than a small Euro 6 diesel with two passengers per passenger mile. And don’t ask me about vegans passing more methane per kg of bean protein than cattle.
Great listen, insightful in a logical way and brought a few laughs as well! I also think things like net zero bio/eco fuels will likely to be another crossroads we face in 5 to 10 years in terms of saving old internal combustion but meeting some of the emissions requirements. F1 and some of the big car companies are looking into this very seriously. But I’m with you that the deeper and more frightening agenda of self drive cars makes for a sober future 25 years down the line. We’ll unfortunately probably end up like in the movie ‘Logans Run’ rather than the sustainable Bentley Christmas gathering 😂
Hi Dean. I swear like a trooper in normal life, so shooting a vid without swearing is bad enough, but shooting a rant without swearing, impossible! The cutting in editing means I resemble max! But could be a good style to shoot Qotw in
I understood that the green stripe was to warn the emergency services that it was an electric car that they were dealing with. Especially in case of fire.
So refreshing to see a pure undiluted opinion from a uTuber, not towing the politically correct “woke” line. Loved your assessment of the Bentley Christmas do, which is the exact opposite of your approach, with empty gestures just to sell a few more cars to those who want to be seen to be doing the right-on thing, ignoring how the materials for the batteries are mined and how the electricity is generated.
Hahahah I fully agree with your points. Hope people will start protesting against the absurd costs of EVs - that could be a good leverage to avoid such a mass of stupid changes happen !
As an avid petrol head I succumbed to an EV this year, a mostly economic decision on the basis that my ageing E class Diesel needed replacing and for the price of a months road tax I could fuel my EV for 1000 miles worth of electricity. That decision was also heavily influenced by a son in university, another one about to follow him and another 2 waiting in the wings 🥺. Expensive huh ! Bah humbug I hear you all shout, how could you! . Sadly I don't have a bottomless pit of money... however, before you all pelt me with rotten tomatoes ! I do also have a KAWASAKI Z1000SX in the garage !! As my weapon of mass consumption! Am I spared ?? And just to keep the British end up, dad has his Aston V8 Vantage and Ferrari 355 which I can always borrow occasionally to do my bit for the cause !! Enjoy it whilst it lasts my friends ✊
I totally agree, here in NZ they introduced a 'ute tax' when there isn't any ev alternatives available. Anyway I'm going to keep making as much noise with a big smile on my face when a disgruntled woke climate change activist sees my annoying loud ICE car burn up the road. I intend to burn as much fuel as I can while I can, and if possible I will make my own e85 and continue making noise!
Mike - a follow on question. Where could we go where ICE’s will not be banned? UK is surely turning into a country for old women. There has to be somewhere better.
Don't like the way these ev's can be controlled, and let's face it the software updates that we will have no control over either will probably render the cars obsolete after say oooh I'm guessing maybe 3 - 4 years if that, shutting various systems down slowly will necessitate a visit to the dealer where after a sharp intake of breath we'll hear those immortal words "it's gonna be expensive guvnor - cheaper to buy a new one" Note to self - give up driving and pray that Johnny cabs aren't too dear........
Oh, I’m one of those company EV drivers during the week but with my V8 Vantage and motorcycles for the weekend. To be honest, I really am torn. My EV is actually very good to drive, it’s incredibly quick and the shortcomings around charging are exaggerated. I work in the energy industry and I can categorically say that transferring the UK’s car miles to electric will be the least of our net-zero challenges. However, I’m a big F1 fan and not Formula E. Nothing sounds better than the growl of my V8 or the howl of my Superbike. So I very much hope I can carry on using them into the future.
Yes, one of the net zero scenarios I’ve read means closure of Heathrow?! If the drive experience in the Electric car is better than ICE for a particular journey, let’s say across city, in start stop traffic, it’s logical to choose the electric car and generate less tailpipe emissions/smog. For localised pollution reduction your choice of daily could well be the better option.
Absolutely. The Service advisor of the Aston Garage/dealership to which I took my 2006 Aston Martin DB9 for tyres and brakes said to me, when I mentioned electric vehicles, "Why would you buy a gasoline powered car? Best QOTW for a while. Keep the rants coming.
I've been thinking about what to put on a personalized plate for my V12. FUEL WMD is perfect! Thanks for the hint

Think I’ll put a green strip number plate on my V8VS 😂😂😂

Bloody marvellous well said ! I to am a weapon of mass consumption long live the V8 I say….

Summed up perfectly. Thank you.
Brilliant. Totally agree. Long live my vanquish.
Best…rant…ever!!! Long live the internal combustion engine!
The government love measuring stats from whatever point works for them…. Seen a lot of that over the last few years haven’t we…
Yep….HS2 anyone?
Cracking expressive combustible descriptions .....whoosh!
Hi Mike. I'm a DB9 owner and a bit late to this post, but I would like to let you know that you are my new 'DEMIGOD'. Petrol rules. 🥳⛽⛽⛽⛽☠
🤣 Tell us what you really think Mike. Top 99 fuelled rant. Love it 👍
Fantastic vid. Thanks!

Just off out to stick a red tape stripe on the edge of my BR plates on my wonderful Vantage S
Love edgy Mike. Makes my punishing ride in the V12V manual worthwhile.
Great rant Mike. 100% with you all the way on this.
love it
Luckily in europe we have the balkans just 1000 km away.. I will move to the balkans if I can’t enjoy my cars and bikes here. See you there guys
You’re so right!

It's All in the rumble!
Mike certainly loves a good rant.
Brilliant! Owning an electric car is like owning a hoover or a washing machine.
Makes me wish I kept the V8V and burned all the fuel I could. I still have the Jaguar though...
Savagely true and amusing
Aston drivers are not Wokes
Well said 'Alf Garnett' 😂
🤣 careful. You did say you wanted your car back painted in purple?
Hahahah I fully agree with your points. Hope people will start protesting against the absurd costs of EVs - that could be a good leverage to avoid such a mass of stupid changes happen !
I wouldn't trust Grant Shapps as far as I could chuck a Tesla...

Note to self, must use “Johnny cabs” in next vid 👍
Also, zero emission. Well… what a statement.
They’re not even close to zero emission.

Electric cars r best fo public transport.
