the past 3 months I've travelled twice to Germany and passed this region. I'm definitely coming back and checking out everything it has to offer. Cheers from the Netherlands
You should’ve also mentioned Koblenz , Boppard & Deutsches Eck 😅. Due to my study purposes, I’ve been living in koblenz for the past few years and have been regularly traveling across this beautiful region, doing cycling tours and hiking in the surrounding mountains. The beauty of this region is simply breathtaking and you’ll have to see it with your own eyes to believe in it. This area definitely deserves more attention to attract more people who love quiet nature and mountains. Great video!
I recently enjoyed this beautiful train journey, on my first trip to Europe. The scenery and old castles and pretty towns were magical. Thank you for helping me relive my lovely journey.
Great video of one of our favorite parts of Germany! Personally, I usually take people to see Bacharach over St. Goar, but it's hard to choose any of the beautiful towns along this route over another!
I lived in Germany in 1981-83 while serving in the US Air Force at Ramstein AB. I'd ride the train almost every weekend from Landstuhl to Wiesbaden, where my former roommate from our previous base was stationed, at the now closed Lindsey Air Station. We spent a lot of time in Mainz, shopping, day drinking, going to every wine festival in the area. Purchased a car the 2nd year I was there, when my wife came to join me. We traveled up and down the Rhine from Heidelberg to Koblenz many times visiting every castle that was open to the public. It was easier to do by car, but as a tourist, you just can't beat the rail system in Europe!
I am from Pakistan .Mam while you are in train , I consider my self that I am in train viewing this scenic view . More over your presenting style is quite magnificent.
It‘ a great region and I appreciate living here. Andernach, Bacharach and Boppard are worth a visit, too, and you definitely shouldn‘t miss the famous city of Koblenz. But the other side of the river has so much that is worth seeing, too. The city of Wiesbaden, Hessias capital is definitely worth stopping by as well as the towns of Eltville and Rüdesheim with the famous Germania-Statue and the Drosselgasse. Also towns like Linz and Königswinter with the Drachenfels castle and railway are waiting for your visit. And here’s an extra tip: From July till September, every year, there are fireworks events in different town in the middle Rhine every few weekends. You can watch them from a boat or from the landside and there is always a framework program in thenhosting cities. Come by some time!
I have 5 days in the Rhineland next month. I land in Frankfurt. Im thinking of heading straight to a village/small town. What are your top 2? Koblenz and Bacharach, perhaps? Must be on train route to cologne
Did exactly this same journey roughly 4 years ago with my wife I’d done it from the Bodensee to Dortmund in the late 70,s and always wanted to show my wife how beautiful it was ,
Dear Hannah, First of all Thank you so much for showing the wonderful Rhine Journey.. I just want to ask you that... "Will you be my golden haired maiden?" Du bist einfach die Liebe.
This just makes me literally feel home sick, i want to go back to Germany so badly as I lived near the Rhine when i lived in Germany. Mannheim, Ludwigshafen and Wiesbaden all become a home to me. Im not even German, but because my mom grew up in Germany as a kid, her and my dad lived in Rammstein when they were younger, i lived in Mannheim and my sister and her kids lived in Grafenwoehr, Germany has become a huge part my families history for at least the last 4 generations.
Went to Koblenz last month and also went to the Rheinstein castle. On the way back I had to leave the train because I didn’t have the right ticket. Accidentaly the next stop was St. Goar, so I was very pleased with it, haha. Beautiful area!
This is truly one of the most beautiful parts of Germany. I live close to this region. It is very similar to the Hudson River valley in upstate New York - minus the castles, of course 😉
Like 10 years ago I did that trip by bike. Was a really nice scenery, the only annoying part was the traffic. There is a lot going on along the Rhein and the vally in parts becomes rather narrow. So all the road and train traffic is really concentrated (which probably does not bother you when you are in a car or train, but is you are on a bike)... Still this stretch was probably the best part of our trip and also had the best night there, waking up in a tent right at a river beach of a sidearm of the Rhein was really, really great.
I used to live in the Rhine Valley. Wiesbaden and Kiedrich to be exact. The way to see it is NOT by train. You will see maybe 1% of the countryside and the river, going by at a fast pace. I don't know where she gets the three hours from. The train looked like it was going about a 100 mph. The way to see the area is by car. The guide went from Cologne to St. Goar and then all the way to Bingen, which is just about at the end of the castle route, then Mainz. She missed dozens of attractions along the way. And who doesn't know about Riesling wine?
1:48 that depends on which train you take as there are 2 passenger railways, one on each side, that go south from cologne along the rhine and they serve different lines. But you will quickly realize on which side your on :D
Sehr schön! I used to travel up through Bingen, St. Goar and stopped at a "Wunderbar" stein shop in Bacharach, which sold seconds of bier steins with only slight defects. There are now about 300 steins in Cleveland, Ohio...PROST!🍺
I can totally agree! For me it`s as well germany`s most beautiful train route! I love to take it when I travel from my hometown near Dortmund to my residence in Heidelberg. The only thing I`m a little annoyed of is that this train does not have wifi, power sockets or toilets...but unless you don`t care about it and just want to watch the scenery I guess it`s totally fine for you. So comfortably speaking I`d prefer the route over Siegen and Frankfurt. It is definitely not as beautiful as the middle rhine route...but it`s more comfortable. But nonetheless....I`d suggest to everyone who lives near Cologne or Mainz to take this route once in your life
The landscape nature of the river Rhine Germany there are Castles, palaces, vineyards and river valleys are very romantic, beautiful, wonderful and clean. German girl Hannah Hummel is very beautiful 😍😘🥰💋🌹❤
Very cool, I'm adding this journey to my 2023 Christmas Market trip! Is Mainz as far south as this train goes or would we see sites if we picked it up in Mannheim?
Mainz is basically the southern end of the Middle Rhine Valley region. This specific regional train terminates in Mainz but there are others that go further. Make sure not to book a high speed ICE ticket, since those don´t drive along the river but on a secluded, more direct track. When you do the trip i´d also recommend hopping of in Koblenz and take the cable car up to the fortress.
if you're going to be travelling along the Rhine, I highly recommend making a stop in Koblenz. I've been there a lot, and it's one of my favorite cities in the world. the Christmas Market at the Forum Mittelrhein was absolutely beautiful! ^w^
Can I ask some question? If i want to go to Frankfurt from Cologne and want to travel along the Rhine river, What kind of train that I should choose or just choose the train that pass the city like Koblenz and take around 2.30hrs and the route map along the river? Because I saw ICE train pass all above but it’s ICE so I’m not sure😅, Thank you for answering
The best way is to take the regional train to Mainz - change there and take the IC (not ICE) to Cologne. The ICE is faster but it goes through tunnels most of the time....
On this train , can we use pass ? What is the fare ? Also if I take stoppage in between the journey (Cologne - Mainz) can i board again to next coming train n continue my further journey?
I've always thought the Mäuseturm was a bit of a letdown. The existing tower is rather small and not really that old (1855). And, of coutse, it had nothing to do with the legend.
Next on my bucket list are Puglia, Italy with the Tulley houses, the Adriatic Sea looks beautiful. Or....Mont St Michele, cathedral on a tiny island + more exotic places..... Germany hasn't give me the urge to visit yet. i need colors and rich history
Sorry but this wasn’t a trip it was a joke - as a local guy from Mainz and the area here , I have to say - You miss a lot of great places like Koblenz and Bacharach ,Boppart Ingelheim - and in Mainz you just visit a hipster wine bar as it’s worst - it doesn’t stand for the wine culture in Mainz at all !!! Better you get in an old Wine Stube like “Zum Spiegel” or “Hottum” or sone other ones from the old centuries. And some extra information- Mainz isn’t only the wine capital from Germany , it’s also the home of the Men of the millennium “Gutenberg” and also a part of the UNESCO world heritage as one of the Jewish “SchUM” cities - and the home of Biontech as well 👍.
A lovely subject for a video, but top tip - lose the terrible music and hold the shots for minimum 5 seconds. I would have loved to have seen a bit more of Cologne Cathedral without my eyes spinning.. We don’t all suffer ADHD!
A dry Riesling without any food accompanying it is certainly not the best choice to make a young lady from Scotland love german wine! Not very handsomely done my lad from the Netherlands! 😊

Love this, beautiful Rhine river, quaint little villages, and lots of castles. You couldn’t ask for more.
I have been to this region many times and it is one of my favorite spots in Germany. The river, castles, and vineyards are eye candy.
I travelled on this route in 2008,from Mainz to Duesseldorf. The scenic beauty along the Rhine is fantastic.
Just accross our Franco German German border. I gotta admit German's train is more appealing than our French

Bacharqch is of great beauty but let's be honest: I think it's inhabitants have largely given up on the city...its soooo boring!!!!!
Fascinating train ride through a very scenic part of Germany. And such a lovely, charming Hannah to be our tour guide! Very well done.

I loved the lively tour and presenter. I was not aware about the route, thanks for this.
Interesting as I am thinking about hiking the Rheinsteig this summer. The scenery sure looks like it will be well worth it!
Germany is such a beautiful country.
I agree, this is one of the most beautiful and scenic routes along the Rhine. There is a small town called Bacharach, worth taking a look.
how do you go to bacharach from mainz ? are there any frequent buses
