    "If you don't learn this basic landing, you risk serious injury"
    I can vouch for that. I'd been going almost a year landing by bending my legs all the way. My knees are now not all that and I have taken an almost 8 month long break. I've been thinking about getting back into the game but I wanted to review EVERYTHING I'd thought was okay to find what I was doing wrong. It was this.

      TappBrothers,does weight matter when doing parkour

    • @averystark7772
      @averystark7772 4 года назад

      7R1X no weight never matters you just have to try harder and also learn the roll for landing you could break your leg if you’re overweight

      You might wanna roll instead of doing the jump they taught you in that video.

      Gamerix / Rix agreed. I learned how to safety roll and I jumped from 7 feet up and went straight into a roll but that was on a thin mat. My rooms window is like 10 feet above the ground and there is a giant pole in front so my plan is to jump and use the pole as a guide to line myself up so I don’t fuck up my knees.

    • @dcgreatman
      @dcgreatman 4 года назад +12

      Basic landing: low height (less than a meter)
      Slap landing: medium height (one to two meters)
      Roll: high height (two to nine meters)

    It seems there are several shock-absorbers :
    Ankles
    Knees
    Hips
    Arms...wrists, elbows, arms, shoulders
    Back...spine
    Neck
    Also converting some of the energy to bounce
    Also converting some of the energy to forward motion
    That is 11 devices or human devices and components of transference.
    Great video!

    Had to watch this again. Thanks for the video! I jumped down some stairs at my school and ended up with a bruise on my left hip side. My mistake- Landed with staggered feet instead of landing on both feet, thus ruining my roll and smacking my hip on the floor. I'm told it still looked cool(sure didn't feel cool). Thanks again!

      from personal experience.

    @RaindropsBleeding 9 лет назад +10

    I know this is an old video, but I have to comment on the knees past the toes thing because I've had a personal vendetta against that idea ever since I first heard of it.. It's completely asinine to think that your knees should never extend beyond the toes, because they do exactly that in literally every movement you will ever do that involves your legs. Running, jumping, landing, sliding... every physical movement ever. Draw a line between your toes and your head. unless you are standing straight up or sitting with your butt planted, I guarantee that your knees are in front of that line. It's how they work. They bend forward to absorb shock and impact. This is why "properly done" squats are so dumb, because they force your back to do the work, and all but remove your knees from the equation. Knees should never end up so far in front of your toes as to throw your hips forward, but to say that they shouldn't go forward at all denies the very method by which they operate. Knees go forward, hips go back, and the world goes round. Stop teaching people the wrong stuff.

    When I was 10 years old me and my friends used to climb the garage roofs in our alley and dare each otther to jump off them... I would land on my feet and knees and hands like a frog, it always seem to be the best way to absorb the impact because when I landed on my feet the pain would be unbearable sometimes.

    Ahh...This is a more detailed on how to land safely from jumping. I hurt my knee badly from bad landing from my Badminton sports.
    While it's a little bit different the way we jump for the sport, this is a general knowledge that can be applied.
    Appreciate the details. Still prefer more details and slow motion zoomed in with labeling of each minor details.

    So... got locked out... took a 12-14 foot jump off my garage into my back garden because i knew the door would be unlocked. I knew i needed to roll to break momentum and push out off the object instead of drop (even if i wanted to guttering and bushes prevented hanging drop).This was a month ago... got locked out again today and decided I should probably learn how to take this 12-14 foot drop properly so I don't fuck something up. Turns out it was a good idea because I was landing with a lot of pressure on my heels even though I tried to land on the balls of my feet. Reassuring I have most of the technique down so now i have less to focus on next time I get locked out :P

  • @Sapoman2211
    @Sapoman2211 10 лет назад +3

    Note: if the most advanced landing you know is the slap landing, don't jump off of something higher than about 6 or 7 feet. At that high it hurts your ankles and hands, and sometimes your knees. Its a pretty instinctual landing where you use your ankles and knees as shock absorbers before using your arms as braces, but you're not dispelling any momentum, and your body won't want to absorb much more than you get from 7ish feet high.

  • @marcusolsson2126
    @marcusolsson2126 10 лет назад

    Hips don't go down so to speak hip go back. What make the hip go down is the legs that absorb the force when you land but the hip go back not down or sink down.

    I watched this video because I was stuck on top of a shipment crate yesterday and it helped a lot. My right foot was fine but I ended up breaking my left ankle, I don't even know how. I watched the video of my landing and it all looked fine but I somehow landed on my left ankle

    • @Neon1880
      @Neon1880 6 лет назад

      Genji from that height I would learn a safety roll because those will save your knees and joints like your ankles. It’s super easy and super fun also. If your just jumping from a small height then you could use this fall tactic

    I wanted to know how you do the roll landing

  • @Twowingstimmy
    @Twowingstimmy 11 лет назад

    New to parkor but in high drops you should roll. I'm may be new but I know logic. The human body has limits, the joints in your legs can't handle everything so from a high jump you should go for a roll because it seems like it would "catch" the jolt of the land and with the roll push it, in a sense, "out" of your body.

    As a kids would jump from platform at recess like high jumps to avoid the tagger

    As a kid we had a celebration in our school and kids would wear clothes other than school uniforms.
    On fourth grade of that day, I had chose to wear a robe and as I was bored I chose to jump from cafeteria table to table.
    As I was trying to jump I found out that robes impede movement as my leg couldn’t extend completely and I fell on the ground and I found out why pants are superior.

    I think in some cases its best to put one foot in front of the other like if you have a lot of forward momentum and there is no room for a role.

    If you practice proper form be it "safe" or not your knees will be fine to a point, I mean if you feel anystrain take a week off and enjoy easy light walking or something but your knees will be fine if you train up to big drops and never just take a huge drop and not roll or anything, Rolls are you friend!
