  • Chain adjustment on youth ATVs is not very difficult and something you can do in less than 10 minutes. Tighten the chain on your Can-Am DS70 or DS90.
    Tools needed:
    10mm combination wrench or shallow and deep socket
    3/8" or 1/2" drive ratchet
    17mm socket
    19mm socket

    Thank you sir, I just picked a DS 70 for my daughter. The chain came a little too loose, I will adjust it now.

    Super helpful. The chain popped off the other day. I'm the least handy person in the world. I'm guessing I could follow these guidelines to get the chain back on. Right now there's not enough play to slide the chain back on without some sort of adjustment.

    • @threefortyduster
      @threefortyduster  4 года назад

      Yep. You should be able to use the adjuster and loosening the bearing carrier bolts enough to allow you to get the chain back on. Good luck!

    Nice video bud but I gotta tell ya.. you tighten chain to much it shud be again that loose or it will wear out your chain shaft bearings and axel bearing if chain is to tight ...FYI for ya

    the free play in the chain should be between 3/4" to 1-3/16". 1/2 may be too tight to start with. Enjoy!

      Also looking to see where I can find upgrades for my daughters 2019 Can-Am Ds90 (Not the X)....looking for full exhaust replacement, motocross grip tires & different wheels for MX setup... Motosport.com and my local can and dealers can’t even find anything out. Kinda bummed out cause it’s a nice quad just looking to make it faster for my little girl

    Great video my sons chain is really loose. wondering if you have any trouble shifting mine is hard to shift into drive and reverse

    • @threefortyduster
      @threefortyduster  4 года назад +1

      I have not had that issue with hard shifting, but a loose chain could likely make it feel that way.

    Do you not run the chain tensioner? Seems to always break

  • @spyd4r
    @spyd4r Год назад

    I am helping my neighbour fix his DS90 as the tensions actually broke, so I replaced it and when trying to bring the chain into spec.. the difference in his between normal and loaded suspension is much greater.. if i make it a bit loose and then load the suspension its REALLY tight. just wondering if you had any input

    • @threefortyduster
      @threefortyduster  Год назад

      I would shoot the gap and have the normal rider sit on it to load the suspension and adjust it for their use. Probably the best compromise.

    I have been looking everywhere for a replacement tensioner (since its discontinued). What aftermarket one did you get?

    • @threefortyduster
      @threefortyduster  4 года назад

      Since most kids ATVs use pretty standardized parts, I went on eBay and just searched for youth atv chain tensioner. That's why mine has an M8 thread now instead of the stock M6.
      This is the exact one I got: www.ebay.com/itm/ARCTIC-CAT-ALPHA-SPORTS-CAN-AM-50-70-90-100-SWINGARM-CHAIN-ADJUSTER-TENSIONER/151255805888?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649

    Sorry that this is off topic but I was driving my 2014 ds90x and while driving I heard a sound below I put it in Netural and saw a stick in the chain and the stick then fell by its self and the chain did too. But it also fell with a u shaped metal, do you know what that is?

    • @threefortyduster

      Can you throw a picture of the u-shaped piece onto imgur and post a link?

    It seems to me that you tightened that chain way too much. My daughter has a DS90 and the manual says that a properly adjusted chain should have a deflection between (44mm-57mm or 1.7in-2.2in) I was just doing the maintenance on her bike and checked the chain and it was in spec. That being said it has way more deflection than yours. Did you refer to the manual for proper chain adjustment?? I’m not here to criticize you or your work I’m just curious into why your chain is way more tighter than mine. Is there a reason why you tightened it that much?? Or is there a different deflection spec for that particular year??

    • @threefortyduster
      @threefortyduster  2 года назад

      Any looser than I set it and the chain would contact the swingarm under normal acceleration from a stop.

    Just got one for my son. I'm used to adjusting dirt bike chains but have never done a quad. Should the chain be THAT tight?

    • @threefortyduster
      @threefortyduster  3 года назад

      Generally, dirt bike chains have more slack than ATV chains. Biggest thing to look for is that it isn't binding up while pushing with engine off (too tight) and not flopping around (too loose). On this one specifically, when it gets loose, it has a very harsh throttle tip-in when the clutch finally kicks in and yanks all the slack out of the chain.
