    I was a member of this club in 1963/65. I was the youngest member and introduced latex molding to the scenery after visiting John Allen's layout on Monterey. Good to see it's completed. Nice work!

    Great looking layout. I love the rock faces. Nice track too. Pulling the camera car instead of pushing it is also a nice change from the norm and a far more interesting view.
    Starting off with more than three minutes of non-scenic running under the layout doesn't make a very good first impression though.

    I came in to possession of the Feb 88 MR backissue over the weekend, and I followed along to your video with the trackplan on page 73! Very nice to see that this layout is still running (30 years later...) and the M.F. Kotowski artwork is outstanding!

    I like the LED lamps in all the tunnels. A lot of people cut the stagings out, but I think that takes away half the fun. I like to see the train come out of the tunnel into a brand new "Land".

    After you enter the tunnel skip forward to 3:44...............you will miss all the under the baseboard stuff in darkness and the wiring. To give credit though, the rest of the layout is wonderful and the builders and operators are to be congratulated for what the have achieved.

    What a fantastic trip! The scenery and backdrops are so realistic. It's a shame that when making this demo video the old guys couldn't keep quiet and out of sight for just under 25 minutes especially the one who kept popping his head into tunnel exits to see if the train was coming. THE TRAIN IS COMING! EXTREMELY ANNOYING!! There is hopefully still an element of imagination left in model railroading. Best layout anywhere.

    have you fellas ever considered uniform power busses for the wiring below the lay out? It would greatly reduce the amount of wire clutter and make it easier to repair and locate faults. you could arrange the busses according to the voltage required for each component.

    Wonderful railroad, very well done video. Very nice scenery and buildings. Thanks for retaining video of the hidden trackage, it reveals construction methods relevant for anyone building a layout. The altitude change is very impressive, what is amount of height change?

    DCC is a wonderful thing for the flexibility it now gives us in operating trains and equipment. Certainly the ability to programme individual locomotives and to run them either separately or together makes things easy. On personal note though I do have some misgivings about sound. I find that in many instances it is overused......and its noise can sometimes spoil the simple appreciation of just watching trains run around, clattering over rail joints and points as they go...............and encouraging onlookers in their conversations with each other or the layout operators.
    Many exhibitions these days are just far too noisy with locomotive sounds overwhelming everything. You should be able to hear sound, if it is used, only when close to a layout and not far across the exhibition hall.
    .......and don't get me started on the excessive use of whistles and horns.......... horns in particular..!
    I sometimes wonder if there are those who fit the largest speakers they can to locomotives and turn up the sound to the fullest volume.
    Some years ago I first came across sound at an exhibition where the layout was 'OO' gauge and featured a German 012 Pacific. I thought it was wonderful, as the sound featured everything from the locomotive moving, to air pumps operating, to coal being shoveled.............. HOWEVER.........the sound was local to the layout and could only be heard when standing close by it.
    If I closed my eyes I was back in Germany in the 1960's and 70's where I watched and travelled on the DB 012 Pacifics on the Hamburg - Westerland line and the Rhiene - Nordeicch line. Thrash beyond imagination....!

    • @SP4275
      @SP4275  8 лет назад

      +Jonny Beck Thank you. I am not sure the actual measurement of the climb, about 4-5 feet on the main line, 6-8 feet on the branch line. As for the location, please read the description above.

  • @sethneumann5167

    are the lights on the gallows affairs under the layout to illuminate optical detectors? If so what is the purpose of the detectors?

    • @SP4275
      @SP4275  10 лет назад

      Yes they are. The ones over the loops at each end of the layout determine positions for 2 trains per track; there are 3 tracks at each end. Then there are a few storage tracks/spurs, so the sensors mark the end of the track.

    Amazing looking layout!! I also think the camera back a few cars is a unique & interesting view, personally I dig it however, your entire layout is so detailled; the rock faces & cliffs especially so, it's why I can't understand your choice of not stringing your barbed wire fences (really obvious @ 15:34 - 17:56). Also at the same time frame your power poles, why have any at all if they're going to stand bare even when they clearly have insulators mounted? Apologies for my criticism but, this is among the most scenic & detailled layouts on YT that I've seen, those 2 issues alone, imo, are very glaring & so inexpensive to accomplish and give a layout a finished appearance. Just looks cheap & cheesy when power poles have no wires & fence posts stand bare. Otherwise a great video & I could care less some get bent outta shape over what exactly a cab ride video is. Ya'll accomplish the same thing imo, personally I don't mind not having the cab interior blocking my view. Thanks for sharing your incredible layout, it truly is sweet & it's a great video.

      @Aussie Pom Best way to get almost a cab view is place the Camera Car in front of the loco, at least you can see the track, switches and a better view over all looking forward.
