On Thursday 5/4/17 I met Club Members Ed, Lee, and George and the share the enjoyment of the clubs awesome H.O. Scale / Gauge Model Railroad train layout.
The club started in 1984 and in 1990 moved to the R. H. Johnson building. It’s amazing to see that every area on the layout is complete. Just a wonderful experience to view.
They are located in the R. H. Johnson Recreation Center at 19803 R. H. Johnson Blvd., Sun City West AZ 85375
The hours for the public are
September 15 through October
Tuesday and Thursday 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM
Saturday 9:00 AM to Noon
November through March
Tuesday and Thursday 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM
Saturday Noon to 3:00 PM
April through May
Tuesday and Thursday 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM
Saturday 9:00 AM to Noon
September through May
Night runs 3rd Friday of the month 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM
CLOSED MAY 30TH THROUGH SEPTEMBER 14TH

Yay for the Milwaukee Road. My dad worked for them from the early 50s until their demise. He finished his railroad career with the Union Pacific! I remember riding on the City of Denver train back in 1969 in a roomette. It was great fun.

This is a layout that must be seen in person. There's so much to see it's absolutely beautiful!!!!! The club members put in so much time, effort and love. Please if you ever video this again break it down into sections and post them separately. The average person will not sit and watch the entire video unless they are like us who love and appreciate everything that goes into the making of a great layout. Thank you for keeping the hobby alive and well.

Hoffa Cement - LOL. I used to design and draft precast reinforced concrete buildings for a living. Between myself and the draft persons, we had a little joke going in the engineering office with the CAD drawings. I had started it all as a fun little game. Every project we would insert a tiny skeleton somewhere in the concrete. When the drawings were printed, the skeleton would be just visible somewhere on the paper prints. The contest / goal was to put it in the drawings (Edit - we would hide it so no one else would likely find it) and see if anyone else would notice and ask about it. We called it "Finding Jimmy". One day the production manager in charge of material procurement, who never smiled, came up to our office and asked "What the @#*#! is that on this drawing?". One of the others just blurted out "Oh, congrats - you found Jimmy!" We all got a serious talkin' to over that one.....

Lovely Video clip! Forgive me for chiming in, I would appreciate your initial thoughts. Have you heard about - Chiveard Racing World Framework (do a google search)? It is a good exclusive product for building your dream model railroad minus the hard work. Ive heard some incredible things about it and my friend Sam finally got cool results with it.
here's several suggestions for diy railroad layout construction
Find a proven set of plans online
Find a mate who wants to build one too so you have someone to help you
(I discovered these and why they work from Jareks Hobby Club site )

I’ve seen no many of these video visits to model railroads where we see no trains running and when they do, no sound. This is an exception.

Very nice layout! We have one here in Cottonwood, AZ, at the Clemenceau Museum. It's almost as large as this one, and depicts the Verde Valley in it's heyday. Mainly Jerome, Clarkdale and Clemenceau(now Cottonwood) when the copper mines were going strong.

My Dad was a big Lionel enthusiast, while I was more into rc cars. He had (I have) cars, engines, buildings, contraptions dating back to when my grandfather came back from WW2, so some gems from the 40's, 50's. I recently acquired his set up and wish to rebuild and modify beyond in his honor. I'm sure I'll learn alot from those like you and gain some great ideas. Looking forward to it. Once impressive enough I'll share my own upload, but I'd imagine it'd be at very least a year from now.

Not certain about the points made but ,if anyone else trying to find out how to build a model railroad layout and scenery try Pycanta Model Railroaders Protocol (do a google search ) ? Ive heard some amazing things about it and my friend got amazing success with it.
His layout is not cluttered it is really fantastic

I like to mess with HO at times but I mostly have O and Standard Gauge Lionel. HO you can really put a lot of stuff in a room and do endless landscaping. Not so much with a larger scale. I still like 0 and S G because of operating accessories. HO is mostly track running. Also I never get around to building a table layout. Everything is on a shelf. I would need to get a house and gut the inside all that I have!! 😩 I live in south Texas and we don’t have basements and attics are too hot.

The adult in me finds it very satisfying too.
so captivated by locomotives since a kid. now their is too many cars and other means of travel. the good ol days of traveling to the next town for a hockey game, by way of locomotive. I'm from northern ontario canada, and the hiway didn't come through until the 60's. The only way to get to our cabin at lake malachi was by train. thanks for the link

Wow ,amazing HO scale layout! The detail is incredible , I just got back into the hobby , currently setting up an HO scale 4x8 layout , purchased a Bachmann train set with an F7 diesel locomotive ,to start with .looks and runs great .Still in the early stages of designing it . Your set is one of the best I've even seen. I'm planning on purchasing most of my trains and accessories from Charles RO in Malden Massachusetts, biggest train dealer/store in the north east . Lionel Guy1776. Buy the new Lionel HO so you will get it fixed if it breaks. No charge for defects when I sent an item back in 2002 I think.

Nice layout! The funny thing is that me and my grandfather have some of the same locomotives and buildings like the power plant, merchants row, etc.
Oh and I also forgot! You should check out the Miniatur Wunderland in Hamburg, Germany. It has working trains, cars, planes and a functional day - night system. It's amazing!

I'd love to start my own Train set CityScape, except when I do it, I'm gonna add mechanics to the little people and give them Npc brains. Then I'm gonna do the same for Transformers g1 toys and add them to the city.. Give the cars road tracks that they will follow with computer guidance..

Great video of a great layout. But for the love of Pete, get a tripod! Way too much motion. It would allow you to get better closeups of structures, scenery, etc.

I do not have trains but I have 3 monorail sets with some other accessories for them but would love to have a set-up like that for my monorail
