Jesus he is a talented singer and the story is right out of the Southern Gothic tradition. I wasn't completely convinced by his voice until this song pushed me over to complete devotion.
you always hear about each "generation" in music having its star... Elvis, Hendrix, Lennon, etc... Jack White is undoubtedly his generations stand out artist. everything he touches is gold... he's a amazing talent, very humble and thankful for his luck (for lack of a better term) in every interview Ive ever seen with the man. Seems legitimately like he's a good person. Would love to see him live. (these shows he does, like this one above, remind me of early Johnny Cash and Willie Nelson live shows)

I think that this is the single greatest performance of any song that I’ve ever seen, recorded or live. Jack serves as an inspiration to me and I cannot thank him enough for how he’s affected my life, short as it has been so far. I can only strive to make music that powerful, that emotional, that affecting.
JACK WHITE ,Im so glad you chose music instead other option i love your music i live in Dallas most folks havent. caught on ,i LOVE EVERYTHING YOUVE PUT OUT SO TALENTED!Ill always will listen to your new &old HOW DO I JOIN YOUR FAN CLUB IF U HAVE ,🎸🎶🎸
LYRICS Carolina Drama The Raconteurs I'm not sure if there's a point to this story But I'm going to tell it again So many other people try to tell the tale Not one of them knows the end It was a junk-house in South Carolina Held a boy the age of ten Along with his older brother Billy And a mother and her boyfriend Who was a triple loser with some blue tattoos That were given to him when he was young And a drunk temper that was easy to lose And thank god he didn't own a gun Well, Billy woke up in the back of his truck Took a minute to open his eyes He took a peep into the back of the house And found himself a big surprise He didn't see his brother but there was his mother With her red-headed head in her hands While the boyfriend had his gloves wrapped around an old priest Trying to choke the man Ah Ah Ah Billy looked up from the window to the truck Threw up, and had to struggle to stand He saw that red-necked bastard with a hammer Turn the priest into a shell of a man That priest was putting up the fight of his life But he was old and he was bound to lose The boyfriend hit as hard as he could And knocked the priest right down to his shoes Well, now Billy knew but never actually met The preacher lying there in the room He heard himself say, "That must be my daddy" Then he knew what he was gonna do Billy got up enough courage, took it up And grabbed the first blunt thing he could find It was a cold, glass bottle of milk That got delivered every morning at nine Ah Ah Ah Billy broke in and saw the blood on the floor, and He turned around and put the lock on the door He looked dead into the boyfriend's eye His mother was a ghost, too upset to cry, then He took a step toward the man on the ground From his mouth trickled out a little audible sound He heard the boyfriend shout, "Get out!" And Billy said, "Not till I know what this is all about" "Well, this preacher here was attacking your mama" But Billy knew just who was starting the drama So Billy took dead aim at his face And smashed the bottle on the man who left his dad in disgrace, and The white milk dripped down with the blood, and the Boyfriend fell down dead for good Right next to the preacher who was gasping for air And Billy shouted, "Daddy, why'd you have to come back here?" His mama reached behind the sugar and honey, and Pulled out an envelope filled with money "Your daddy gave us this, " she collapsed in tears "He's been paying all the bills for years" "Mama, let's put this body underneath the trees And put Daddy in the truck and head to Tennessee" Just then, his little brother came in Holding the milk man's hat and a bottle of gin singing La la la la, la la la la, yeah La la la la, la la la la, yeah La la la la, la la la la, yeah La la la, la la la La la la la, la la la la, yeah La la la la, la la la la, yeah La la la la, la la la la, yeah La la la, la la la La la la la, la la la la, yeah La la la la, la la la la, yeah La la la la, la la la la, yeah La la la la, la la la la, yeah Well now you heard another side to the story But you wanna know how it ends? Best vocal rendition I've heard Jack give for this song. Beautiful, raw stuff. Chris Thile killed it too but I wish he wasn't grinning and swaying like a loony in the background. Kinda took away from the gravity of singing about a kid killing his mom's boyfriend with a milk bottle.
Never thought I'd see Jack White and Chris Thile together, what an awesomely bizarre combo. I dont think Chris is grinning though, looks more of a open mouthed grimace than a grin...dont think he can help himself either way lol
I don’t even like blue grass style music but I like this! JW bringing acoustic music back. What can’t he do? In this age of digital high tech fakery, he plays in all acoustic band and it sounds incredible! This is a real musician and artist.
I am a big fan of Jack. But when I hear him do a really great song....I WANNA HAVE LIKE 10,000,000 OF HIS BABIES!!!I'll tell ya that right now. Tee hee!!
Jack is such a great story teller. So glad they had him as a guest.
It's almost like he's a "raconteur'.
This is such a great performance. Jack White is one of the few people I would pay a great deal of money to see live.
Joseph Smith My thougts exactly My good friend
Seen him twice, worth it. Though the 2nd time, he threw a fit about the crowd not being into it, and left after 12 songs.
He actually doesn't charge much for tickets compared to other main stream artists. Very reasonable.
Saw him last year and it was fantastic, he was angry at first but the crowed got into it
i saw him years ago when i was still pretty young. it was great
Holy crap what I wouldn't give for a Thile/White collab album.
yes - no kidding - i have a lot of Thile's music in the house; and recently started collecting Jacks - - - nice combo of musicians here!
Deceiver is a mind blowing album, he wrote the whole damn thing himself. Literal genius.
I know mate
Jack White always brings his A-Game and surrounds himself with the best musicians.
I need so much more of Jack White and Chris Thile together. Those two could come up with some pretty amazing stuff.
Jesus he is a talented singer and the story is right out of the Southern Gothic tradition. I wasn't completely convinced by his voice until this song pushed me over to complete devotion.
I've been looking for this song for freaking ages!!!!! All I had was the ending "go ask the milkman" and a suspicion Jack White sang in the song

I'd agree with you on a personal level, but it's Beyonce.
@@trevscribblesnah it’s Taylor swift!
I need to fill out the paperwork necessary to get Jack White named and protected as a National Treasure.
I'll fill the same form.
I watched this 5 consecutive times just to pay attention to each instrument and it's absolutely amazing to me how perfect this performance is.
man this guy is blessed with an unbelievable voice, i heard the recorded song and now the live performance and he almost sounds the same
One of the best storytelling blues songs of all time.
Anything Jack White, I'm in!
Epic. Delicate interplay between Chris and Jack.Beautiful.
Jack, Lillie Mae and Thile need to do a trio and win grammy's
they would clean up fur sure

He's enjoying his partying with jack White 😁
Still my favorite song of all time. Amazing.

Usually when people make a claim like greatest ever I smile and assume it is hyperbole, but this is close to the top of greatest single performances.
This was amazing! How much fun was Chris having?! Bravo guys, and Lillie 😀 One of my favorite songs. 👏
I've only ever seen one man love to play the mandolin more...Dustin Transou...RIP Dusty, wish I could hear you do this song!
my fave song.. so glad he finally started playing it live! hope to see him again soon and catch him playing this jem!
I wonder if Jack White ever realizes how talented he truly is
My favorite of this song, I love the Mandolin with Jack.
Jack's voice make me cry all the time ❤❤❤❤
Not sure if I've ever seen Thile more enthusiastic and into a song before.
Damn, I love that shiny double bass (and the violin, too...)
I was thinking the same thing
This IS, the best version. Out of the '3' versions I know, THIS IS clearer, and more acoustical 😁👍!!!
Good lord, this is incredible
So you think you're an artist....then you hear Jack White.
That was such an epic performance. It was great how Chris and Jack fed off each other
One of the only things keeping me sane on my 10 hour drive home last night. Thanks!
I ❤️Jack!!!
I could listen to that all day, I love the sound.
Jack's performances are sooo inspiring
The grins just before the middle eight guitar solo is so fantastic: )

Carolina Drama
The Raconteurs
I'm not sure if there's a point to this story
But I'm going to tell it again
So many other people try to tell the tale
Not one of them knows the end
It was a junk-house in South Carolina
Held a boy the age of ten
Along with his older brother Billy
And a mother and her boyfriend
Who was a triple loser with some blue tattoos
That were given to him when he was young
And a drunk temper that was easy to lose
And thank god he didn't own a gun
Well, Billy woke up in the back of his truck
Took a minute to open his eyes
He took a peep into the back of the house
And found himself a big surprise
He didn't see his brother but there was his mother
With her red-headed head in her hands
While the boyfriend had his gloves wrapped around an old priest
Trying to choke the man
Ah Ah Ah
Billy looked up from the window to the truck
Threw up, and had to struggle to stand
He saw that red-necked bastard with a hammer
Turn the priest into a shell of a man
That priest was putting up the fight of his life
But he was old and he was bound to lose
The boyfriend hit as hard as he could
And knocked the priest right down to his shoes
Well, now Billy knew but never actually met
The preacher lying there in the room
He heard himself say, "That must be my daddy"
Then he knew what he was gonna do
Billy got up enough courage, took it up
And grabbed the first blunt thing he could find
It was a cold, glass bottle of milk
That got delivered every morning at nine
Ah Ah Ah
Billy broke in and saw the blood on the floor, and
He turned around and put the lock on the door
He looked dead into the boyfriend's eye
His mother was a ghost, too upset to cry, then
He took a step toward the man on the ground
From his mouth trickled out a little audible sound
He heard the boyfriend shout, "Get out!"
And Billy said, "Not till I know what this is all about"
"Well, this preacher here was attacking your mama"
But Billy knew just who was starting the drama
So Billy took dead aim at his face
And smashed the bottle on the man who left his dad in disgrace, and
The white milk dripped down with the blood, and the
Boyfriend fell down dead for good
Right next to the preacher who was gasping for air
And Billy shouted, "Daddy, why'd you have to come back here?"
His mama reached behind the sugar and honey, and
Pulled out an envelope filled with money
"Your daddy gave us this, " she collapsed in tears
"He's been paying all the bills for years"
"Mama, let's put this body underneath the trees
And put Daddy in the truck and head to Tennessee"
Just then, his little brother came in
Holding the milk man's hat and a bottle of gin singing
La la la la, la la la la, yeah
La la la la, la la la la, yeah
La la la la, la la la la, yeah
La la la, la la la
La la la la, la la la la, yeah
La la la la, la la la la, yeah
La la la la, la la la la, yeah
La la la, la la la
La la la la, la la la la, yeah
La la la la, la la la la, yeah
La la la la, la la la la, yeah
La la la la, la la la la, yeah
Well now you heard another side to the story
But you wanna know how it ends?
If you must know, the truth about the tale
Go and ask the milkman

That's Chris Thile. He isn't a part of any of Jack White's groups, and that is his personal mandolin. But you're right...too bad he couldn't match. :)
