Pretty sure Joe (singer) pulls an evil cropdust move right around 3:05. Five seconds later, he quietly informs the guitarist who's clearly experienced this before, and knows exactly what to do.
Fucking awesome! But the extra... There are other ways. Inherited a free ticket once, to see Parquet Courts. They were headlining for some reason. Confused the fuck out of every rube in the building. Protomartyr made the most sense, musically at least. They also had something resembling lyrics, sung in earnest by an honest human.
i really like the song and the production is stellar as always. but i always enjoyed take away shows for having a more live and raw feel to them. I could just get this sound in a studio. Whats the point of doing a site shoot if you dont get to experience the music as it would sound in the actual environment. As always though, great selection and camerawork from La Blogotheque.
Hi mate, glad to know you have a studio that charges 0$/hour big enough for you to fit a tractor. Joke aside, the whole idea of "how it sounds naturally in the actual environment" is a very tricky question. And sometimes, it's impossible or useless to try to achieve that. The mood of the band, its configuration, the time you get with them, the technical constraints, the place where you film/record them, the aesthetics of the music itself... all these factors and many more can make you question how to approach a mix like this. With the sound of the first song, i was aware i was trying something different that could appear as "bizarre". But i wanted to take the risk because that choice made me move my head in rhythm and seemed to convey the message of the band appropriately: the song has a story evolving around a wall, they are playing this in the middle of nowhere between two huge walls while Slowdive is soundchecking in the back. I wanted to hear that wall, have it part of the music and let the slapback of it live and be. If you prefered just to have the bad sound of the camera, drop me a line and i'll send it to you. Chances are you'll only hear that snare drum - with a raw sound that is - at a deafening level. Cheers.
I think there's too much unnecessary pathos in this one. I mean the expressions of the vocalist and so on. And the video doesn't have these brilliant glimpses of real world and irrational as in most Take Away Show videos.
Every member of this band plays their parts so fucking well these men are legit artist. fave band
This is a great tune. For anyone else who couldn't find it in their discography it's also called "What the wall said".
Hard to imagine a better live Protomartyr vid.
That drummer is the truth
If again!! 😭❤️❤️
yeah this band reminds me of the truth.
Truth, what is it?
@@vedranpavlov726 Truth is achieving a kick drum sound with nothing but a snare in hand.
Alice in Chains, played on repeat, not feeling great, you're 20 percent...ah ah ah ah
this is one of the greatest lyrics ever hahaha. Just for a band like this to name drop Alice in Chains more than anything haha
one of the better take away shows i've seen, they did a great job. wish there were more songs though!

That's a big kick drum sound for the snare
killer production.
holy shit they sounded good
and still do!
The songs and the band are so good that they sound amazing on pocket amps, a snare, and a boom mic. How many bands can replicate that?
He's going for a nice little walk there.
