What are YOUR thoughts on The Acolyte episode 3? ❤ Much love and may the Force be with you always!
i hated it
I will always be a star wars fan l love seeing species from the clone wars in live action can't wait to see more of them 😊
5/10 not good. The last 5 minutes or so was nonsensical the witch clan just looked like they all fell down if the fire got them or falling debris then it should have left its mark in their bodies. The "flashback" felt very incomplete which means we'll likely see another episode going over this again wasting another episode
I've been a life-long SW fan since the beginning. And while there have certainly been some recent series I've liked more than others, I've followed all of them. This may be the first SW series I stop watching. It doesn't even feel like Star Wars. Terrible dialog, more illogical plot developments than I can keep track of, weak acting and some scenes are just cringe. And the only two decent actors are completely under-used. I can't even bring myself to care about the characters or to be curious about where it is all going.
It just expands the concept already showed the Force is experienced different ways by different cultures. And I think it fits the night sisters too. People are too attached to the Jedi point of view
One strength the Bad Batch had was its ability to show a character's good side, bad side, strengths, and weaknesses. It showed characters bonding and bickering (Tech and Echo bickered like an old married couple). Other shows should learn to use this.
My biggest problem with this one is just that the writing is terrible. It felt like a sophomore goth-girl wrote a school play. It was essentially an unconnected series of set-pieces with people stuck in to fill it out.
Who asked your opinion after 3 episodes?
That is exactly what my wife said, “this sounds written and delivered like a high school play”. Just poor writing, regardless of canon
@@foreverfendi1037, you are the person who only likes people who think exactly like you. You can have a difference of opinion, and ve friends.
Why only after 3 episodes? It has been this way for most of disney star wars. Just different stories smashed together and doesn't really make sence. Kenobi and Asoka both did this. BoBF did it too. I just have zero desire for Star Wars now, and zi grew up with the Original Trilogy.
KOTOR was a hetter story than this pile of shit.
@@jonathanmartin3767 ur comment is cliche and ridiculous. You can have any opinion u want. But so can I. And I shared mine. Then here you come telling me people can have different opinions without realizing u are doing exactly what you railed against in your comment 🤣🤣....ridiculous
@@foreverfendi1037 , but you attacked a person who had a different opinion than yours. Exactly what I said you were. I don't care if you love this series, but it is shit and will never be looked on as great. No matter how "stunning and bold" it is. Amazing how ant movie or show from disneybthat has those adjectives is basicly a one time watch product, and half ass watched at that.
Anakin: Is it possible to learn this power?
Palpatine: Of course, bro! Witches have been making dyad twins for decades *somehow*
A force dyad and resurrection aren’t the same thing. Palpatine was discussing the latter, and even he struggled to replicate it.
Did you not really listen to Palpatines speech? He said Plagueis knew how to create life. Anakin asked about keeping people from dying. Nothing in The Acolyte deals with or addresses stopping people from dying.
I don't think Aniseya do the thing by herself i think she ask the help from a sith. It is why the other witch say " but if the Jedi would know how you have create them?"
@@CaptainFettCosplay so Aniseya is Plagueis? 🤪
Do you think Palpatine invented the Dark Side 😅
2:30 Meg, the Sith are known to steal rites and pervert them. Maybe this is how the door to this power was opened to the Sith. The witches wanted children, the Sith wanted a weapon, the force allowed one but not the other.
i found it very odd the jedi just 'happened' to be there and 'happened' to know of the fire. I also found it strange how it spread considering it was all metal and stone that somehow caught fire when there was only a book to burn and perhaps some oil but that would've just died out since... stone and metal don't catch fire like that.
maybe let the show finish before complaining
They're clearly going back and showing more later. This episode seemed to be from Oshas perspective. We'll later see it from Mae or Sol's and find out what happened.
So many of the complaints about this show are that things haven't been explained properly, but that's the point of the show. It's a mystery show. They are showing us some of what happens but purposefully keeping other bits from us until the end.
Lol you pointed that bad writing out so casually, but on other channels they're having a field day with it.
@user-xl5lc3qw5z if you saw this in any other show that isn't SW you'd turn it off.
As usual, the reviews before the episode were extremely hyperbolic, with several stating it would "break" our understanding of the Force. Ummmm....no it didn't! The Nightsisters were established in the Clone Wars series to have their own view of the Force, as well as different abilities from the Jedi & Sith. This coven is no different, really (though I felt like this group was a very watered down version, not nearly as interesting as the Nightsisters).
As for Plagueis, I don't see this episode as contradicting his goals at all, and his failure could likely be related. The Sith were often dismissive of the Witches of Dathomir, and likely would be of a small coven like this as well. The arrogance of the Sith as a group leads them to discard the beliefs and abilities of any other faction of Force users, so therefore he likely ignored a key element the witches came upon.
So far, I have very mixed feelings of this show. It's far from peak Star Wars, but it also isn't the horrible desecration of the franchise that many have declared it to be. I'm watching each episode with an open mind, and will wait until the entire season has aired before making my final judgement.
You and I are on the same page.
It's lovely to see some sense in these comments!
@@Phasma Literally, the ep gave them nuance and even faults, same with the Jedi, a third party is involved with having collapsed the whole thing 100 but people are JUMPING to inane conclusions
yeah I also thought the 'coven' didn't have as much pizazz as the 'Dathomiri Night Sisters" -- but its a whole universe, how many different variations of force users could there have been? When I considered that , I almost like that they were 'unremarkable' just this group of people in the universe trying to preserve their culture.
It’s literally just garbage and not anything to like or consider part of Star Wars
Lucas' planets had specific climate, terrain, structures, creatures and beasts that affected the story. Not to mention the use of different sections (like Bespin or Geonosis) as different battles take place. Most Disney era planets are completely interchangeable with one another, even if they had a temple, wreckage or base.
The lowest point for me was Vader vs Kenobi first rematch...in a quarry. So disappointed, a effen quarry!
Are you saying…do you DARE suggest…that their writers have zero originality and creativity?!?!?!?!?! 🤭
@@curumo014 It's an example of how they mimic what came before but don't really know or care how to do it properly, or maybe they think the audience can't perceive the difference. And there are people in the fandom that dispute this with me - so I guess there are people that can't tell the difference, or don't care. Those fans seem to focus on the surface level gimmicks and their own fan theories.
@@Ruylopez778 we have to come up with a name for these types of fans, the kind that have no appreciation for the original storyline, and even resort to insulting and attacking the true fan base for speaking out against the clear violation that is happening to a well established and beloved story.
@@curumo014 I don't know, they just have a different perspective. They think things like distinctive planets, vehicles, droids don't really matter, or they claim the new ones are distinctive. And if you try to explain it they think it means repeating what we saw before. I think perhaps they just place more value on the novelty of a new show/movie. I tried to explain to these kinds of people before that porgs do nothing, that the crystal fox basically do nothing. It's not like tuskens on Tatooine, or the sarlacc, or wampas, but they don't see it. And they will just say, porgs are cute, don't overthink it... I think their perception is that people just dislike the newer things because they crave nostalgia and familiarity, or needlessly nitpick.
I think we may find out the witch mom may have had sith help in making the twins as the line about “the jedi wouldn’t be happy if they found out how they were born” seemed to have more to it than their own force stuff. The “one being born as two” could mean this was a botched attempt at sith trying to make a supreme force being
I agree. Witches resurrecting the dead or even creating life doesn’t seem something that the Jedi would be worried about per se. But creating a powerful dark force user controlled by the Sith, that’s a threat. My theory is that Sol is a Sith Lord in disguise and the master mind of all of this.
Hmm I'd say she deffo had "Darkside" help but Not Sith. Maybe more in the form of Abeloth
Thanks for your support in destroying star wars.
@@Gabedudley1 That’s nonsensical. Stop watching if you don’t like it.
Quite liked the first two episodes but didn't enjoy this one. Found it boring -- they only showed us what we'd already been told. To me it felt way too fantasy and not like Star Wars. And I agree, the dialogue was extra clunky and there was zero chemistry between the characters.
Yah, when this is all over this episode will rightly judged as filler.
Did they say the witches used the dark side? Maybe it was a mix of light and dark. We don’t know how the witches made the twins. Until we know that, I don’t think it’s fair to say this changed Star Wars cannon. Just my opinion.
Its the Sith. Its always been the sith. The creation of the twins? The sith. The burning of the coven? The sith. The murder of the coven? The sith.
Yes
No. I think this event is fairly independent of them. I even believe the Jedi might have planted a some kind of bomb in the coven to have the witches wiped out AFTER they leave with Osha. No trauma, yet no reason to return either.
The Acolyte will later somehow be able to reveal this to Mae and that it was the Jedi who were responsible for the deaths of the witches - in order to take Osha. That is the only way you can explain Turbin’s immense self-guilt since the events we have seen wouldn’t amount to anything of the sort.
@@kungolaf4499 Torbin has been shown to be weak of mind and fortitude. Easily manipulated. And while I dont watch trailers much (dont like spoilers) I did see the one with the Sith that was able to knock back a bunch of jedi with a push. And we just saw how the Coven Mother was able to take hold of him, easily at that.
We also seen how the Sith in the shadows has manipulated the thoughts of both twins. We also know the Sith have been trying to create the chosen one and that this coven created "this chosen one" by...?
It all points to the Sith. Hell even the fire. We never see Mae set the fire and then when we see Mae again she's like "what you mean what have I done 🤨".
The only mystery in this show is "Who is the Master and who is the Apprentice". Plagueis, is that you🧐?
@@kungolaf4499 That's not credible--the Jedi suddenly turning into murderers and going against their own ideals.
I feel like the Sith are involved and used and manipulated the coven. Created the force twins because they knew it would attract the Jedi’s attention. They are being lured into something. And I’m thinking the only way to find out is to stop speculation and just watch the whole season. ✌️
They never actually said the twins were born from the force, could easily have been a chemistry set and a turkey baster
Or cloning 😊which I suppose qualifies as a turkey baster and chemistry set !
I disagree with your statement that it came off like it was easy for them to ''create'' these girls, cause they clearly said that it something that did not happen for a long time, and there are not other children around. They are are a dying breed, hunted and chased across the galaxy.
Exactly! They don't treat it like it was no big deal. They explicitly call it a miracle.
Thanks! Same here. I feel people are going into the show with a super critical lens. When it comes to this situation in specific there are still certain mysteries being set up like the origin of the girls and how the witches truly died. Just bc they were able to achieve the manipulation of life doesn’t mean it was easy. We haven’t even seen how it went down, people are just assuming bc it hasn’t really been explained outside of the outcome and the fact their witches.
Yeah also agree, came here to comment this.
This desire to have only one character or story be the only example of something in the whole Star Wars galaxy/universe is exhausting. It’s also barely contextualised yet and so cool to see more magic/perceptions of the force. I’d take that over OT/PT throwbacks any day.
Agreed - also who said the twins are a diad?
But they weren't hunted and chased. The Jedi didn't seem to care what the grown-ups did. They didn't want children being trained in force use outside of the Jedi Temple, but is that really a surprise? So many people support strict gun control. Well, the force is a heck of a lot more powerful than a Glock. Are we to believe people who want strict gun control would be okay with little kids being trained by anyone in powers that could potentially make a person a one-man (or woman) army? People talk about freedom and call themselves liberals, but when it comes time to vote, they are happy to have government micro-manage people's lives.
ScreenCrush had a nice take on it… what we all viewed was from Osha’s point of view. That’s interesting
I think the next episode may be from Mae's view and episode 5, the one that is supposed to be really good, could be from the Jedi's view. The fire didn't kill the witches... But I do think Mae was being controlled by mother Korill to kill Mae
@@schanataylor2067 Everything is probable. I think we may see Mae's perspective then maybe Sol or the Wookiee. Generation Tech really has a good take on it as well.
Well if Abeloth has possessed one twin Mae making her all psycho and evil, and we see her pov. Would make sense that the witch coven have been worshiping Abeloth the whole time.
In Mortis lore, "The Father" is Order and Balance, on the other end of that spectrum "The Mother" is Chaos, and that matriarch mother does say "the power of one".
Leslie headland has said in interviews that regards the witch coven they, her writing team were trying to honor the Clone Wars, with the coven whole mantra thing. And Filoni has gave creative input into Leslie's Acolyte show too.
I believe its all Abeloth, and the witches have been worshipping her, when you worship a Deity eventually you get your "Gift" but it always comes at the cost of losing your "Soul".
And so Abeloth has been able to possess one of them, maybe even others in time. Look at that Sith Anime mask wearing figure, their mask has what looks like a creepy smile with lots of teeth. Quite reminiscent of Abeloth.
All the reactors and reviewers missed the end shots where the Padawan now has a massive fresh scar on his face, obviously because the Jedi went back and killed the coven.
who care at this point. It's all trash
Why would they kill the coven? There has to be a believable motivation for that.
@@JohnSmith-ff1rk It’s trash, from a certain point of view. A negative point of view. I’m finding the show interesting. I’m intrigued to where it’s going. I’ll Judge it as a whole upon completion.
@@OldmanSk8ingi agree, i think its ok so far, but i'll wait, like you, and see where and how it ends
@@user-kz5gw7xe4o Because the Jedi don't want anyone else using the force, other than themselves. They've even had laws created that allow them to steal peoples children.
Losing hope that we’ll ever see real actual Star Wars again😢
If the Sith are behind the slaughter of the witches once they'd learned their secret, and then made it look like an accident or the Jedi were behind it, then I think its a good story I hope we get to see play out. However, modern writers, especially Disney, always show their lack of imagination so I won't be surprised if we're left disappointed at the end of the series.
Having a Sith Lord behind all this would make it relatively credible and could be interesting. Better than some whiny preaching about the Jedi being fascists and the poor witches being oppressed; that's just boring at this point.
But I actually beleive it was the sith. If the jedi knew about the witches and suspected a dyad was present then the sith did too. And if the jedi were on the planet stalking the coven then the sith could have been there too. The fire was the perfect opertunity to take the coven out. Screw with he jedi and potentially snatch up the twins. Also you don't just stumble upon a sith, a sith let's you find them
Why did Torbin apologize and drink the poison? Was it Sith trickery? Were some of the Jedi compelled?
@@user-kz5gw7xe4oThe Jedi had zero problems with wiping out entire Force Sects and Religions that did not agree with their views in the past. Face the Facts: The Jedi are way worse than the Sith
I think it is interesting that the chant mentioned TWO. A Sith concept. "Always two there are . . . ."
I think you're the ideal audience for this show
Nah I don't think that's what that meant, the witch coven are not Sith, they're just affiliated on the *Darkside* of the force. The power of One means "The Mother", the power of Two means the twins, the power of many either means the jedi, or the power of their own sisterhood together.
I can't believe I defended this show. They were right this is a disaster. Feel like a fucking clown now for defending this trash. I've had enough 3 wastes of air episodes in.
Oh, Eli. 😅
Nah don't feel like that, atleast you was open-minded. Me I havnt even watched this show at all, Apathy set in for me now after Ahsoka. I gave all the other shows a chance, Andor was quite good, cud have done with more aliens about though.
It funny how even in Star Wars that The Force, like Religion, is still causing conflict with people saying our way is the only way. I was really bothered by the fact that it actually was a law that kids had to be tested to see if they had the force. It seem to me anyone else who used the force was a heretic is the vibe I got from the episode. The other thing I found odd was the way the Witches bodies were layed out, it did not look like they were defending or attacking, it seemed like they were all killed at the same time. Many questions still to be answered.
God bless
I loved this episode. It's the view of events from the Osha's point of view, but it's missing a lot of important details (it didn't even show Osha running through the burning forest) - and also I strongly suspect Sol has manipulated Osha's memories (in a "don't wipe my memory or whatever it is you Jedi do" kind of way).
I think we'll see more of the truth alongside Osha, Rashomon style.
In particular, I'm wary because of the way Sol earlier said things like, "your eyes can deceive you" and "Osha sees Indara and myself as her protectors". I really think Osha has been deceived, and mostly by Sol.
Perhaps the only entirely accurate memory in this episode is Sol's promise to Osha that she'll never feel this way again. Except, he's going to suppress/alter her memories in subtle ways to MAKE her never feel that way again.
Also, the way Sol claims that he could only "save" one of the twins ... I feel like it's more of a matter that he could only take in one of them into the Jedi order. So the tests were really to determine which one, rather than testing them each honestly.
I was cold on the first two, but I thought this episode had that feel and story that the previous episodes lacked. I liked this episode. It felt Legends era to me, I always liked Force cults.
apparently these witches are more powerful than mother talzin and darth plagueis since they can create life using the force
And why is it so unbelievable that this group of witches, very similar to night sisters, would not have a similar basis of knowledge as the sith or the night sisters? Just bc they’re newly depicted doesn’t mean they aren’t knowledgable in their own right. Not to mention, it looks like they weren’t well known. So it would be very easy for both the sith and jedi to miss out on the specific ritual used. We all know Anakin was created in a similar process but that in no way takes away from his origin.
Different cultures have different knowledge. In real world terms, if a culture has specific knowledge of healing, doesn't mean their better they just discovered something others haven't.
Are they though... I mean Mother Talzin was able to create life... Reanimating the dead and created Savage Opress an extremely strong force user, she gave birth to him....or so we're lead to believe and he had no ability to weild the force until she used magic to instill that ability within him. I am not defending this show. I just think these are things the Clone Wars did already no?
Who said they created the twins using the force?
Thank you, Meg!
Being honest and transparent about how you felt the episode played out is all anyone could ask for. Not flying off the rails like some content creators and keeping an open mind is truly why I think a lot of us followers appreciate what you do.
I do agree with everything you said and honestly…I love EVERYTHING Star Wars and will continue to do so, but I do have reservations about this show…but! I’m going to continue to watch to see how it all unfolds.
I do have one question though?
An entire mountain was burnt down by a piece of paper????
Just kidding! (But not really)😝
I wondered about that too (the last sentence). It was mostly a stone temple so was there even that much stuff to burn? And enough a fire to kill everyone? And why didn't any of the witches come running to help - but the Jedi came? I thought the whole scene was weak - starting with Mae saying "I'm going to kill you." Really?
@@leaprincexleia4172 okay, so I thought that was oddly placed too! (The I’m going to “kill you” line) Just so poorly written🤷♂️
I havnt watched it because Apathy has set in for me as a fan now towards Disney Star Wars. I also really appreciate Meg's honesty here too. She's nothing like the other Starwars youtubers - "Starwars Explained" who are shills, their review I just watched for ep3 Acolyte they were desperately trying to make up excuses for everything in the episode, even how that whole stone temple set fire.
The witches do have a different view of the Force to the Jedi... and the Sith. I think the twins were conceived using both the light side and the dark, but instead of creating one child strong in both it's created twins who are each strong in one side but weak in the other. They're not a force dyad like Rey and Ben, that was a natural occurance that no one could have anticipated. Plagueius certainly wouldn't have even considered it, Sith are contemptuous of the light side. They're more like force-sensitive clones of their mother conceived using both sides of the force together, rather than with technology.
Hmm ... it is possible they really are clones of Aniseya. I mean, there's so much cloning in this galaxy that there's literally a planet of cloners.
@@IsaacKuo Yup. The Force is more powerful than technology in-universe. A single untrained Skywalker managed to destroy the most powerful and expensive battlestation in the galaxy with a single force-nudge of his torpedoes, it isn't even close. Force-cloning is pretty likely here.
Science!!!
I think The Sith killed the Coven because they were allowing Osha to join the Jedi and possibly share the Witches secrets. Mother Korall is the mole. The Jedi group (minus Sowl) tried to save the Witches but were trapped by the Sith and were forced to witness the brutal massacre. Mai was later picked up by the Sith where her anger was fueled by lies of The Jedi killing the Coven and Osha. That anger brought her to the Dark Side much like Anakin.
How did a Zabrak have human children??? I mean everything else was weird but that was extra.
All she did was carry the twins. Aniseya said she created them
@@mustardeater5162 That’s just even more confusing with the whole genetics thing. It should have been Aniseya that carried them.
Her partner is human.
@@Lilac-and-Gooseberriesit's like Anakin son of Palpatine.
I think you're expecting logic where there is none. I made the same mistake with this show.
Why would a witch or a group of witches have the same perspective on their power as someone who is not a witch? It is absolutely pathetic. That people expecting this to be the same as Phantom Menace or return of the Jedi.
I’m surprised you didn’t speak about Tornin being injured at the end of the episode
This episode is telling what happen from Osha's point of view. I think Mae was being controlled when she said she wanted her sister died because at the end why was she looking for her sister. I have heard that eps 5 is going to do a reveal of what really happens in this episode.
Wrong Star Wars Meg. Koril says to Aniseya that the Jedi would have a big problem with how the twins were created. Perhaps Aniseya used knowledge provided by a Sith Master. Perhaps the Sith Master is even using the witches as a test for the technique.
OK, that “force transgression“ was a big deal about nothing. The legends EU had long established that there are various force sects who interpret the force differently than the Jedi. it’s no different than how religions interpret God differently.
Plaguis doesn't have to had taken an L. The way I see it, Plaguis stumbled on this imperfect dark side Magick/alchemy technique. It produced twins. We know Plaguis was researching these things. He and Sidious perfect the technique and create Anakin, the perfected result, The Chosen One🎉. He is Osha and Mae all rolled into one. They took great pains to show one light and one dark. One had his love for life and adventure , the other had his possessiveness and quickness to anger. I actually believe we're not supposed to know who's good or bad, right or wrong, the Jedi or the coven. Not yet; the story is still brewing.
As far as the Force goes, the head Mother description of it was almost word for word what Obi Wan told Luke, except she called it the thread. Then her description of how people will consider their dark abilities unnatural was almost right from Palatine's mouth. The Woman force thing amounted to nothing which made ppl hate the thing before it aired. It stood no chance with idk, many viewers. Even if the female force was true, that's only that coven's view of the force, not the galaxies. Kind of like irl feminists believing God is a woman.
Would I rather have seen the stuff from last week, yes. Was it the worst ever or somehow handing out Ls,no. Is Star Wars ruined after one episode of one show, no. Besides, I thought the franchise has been dead for almost a decade now.
Just think about what we're watching and the fact that there's a mystery at play. This episode only gave us more to think about. Why was Sol in the strong hold? And what exactly are those Spice Creams made of? Actual Kessel Spice? I cant make a definitive call on the show over all bc the mystery is still playing out but it looks great, the budget is seen on screen. Not most of it going to talent or wonky cgi. That's one of the best things about it. I appreciate the sets and practicality of everything.
Told Meg exactly the same on X. Modern day equivalent of this is just a case of multiple groups of scientists working on the same discovery. Difference is Osha/Mae are mediocre force users at best. Anakin was the perfect creation.
nahhh this woke garbage has definately killed starwars
I actually really agree with you on a lot of this. The force diade using dark side magic being done before Plagueis didn’t bother me. Who says other force using factions couldn’t have done it first? He just perfected it. I also agree that there was nothibg that revolutionary about the force that ruined it or changed it foe me. Not like with Eabine in Ahsoka. That threw me off way more. I liked thisepisode for what it was though I do agree that the content from last week is better.
Well said!!❤
Nope
Take a look at Torbin’s face at the end of the episode when Osha is waking up in the ship. There is a small shot of him in the background with a huge scar on his face. The Jedi did something forsure.
Imagine being given the opportunity to create a Star Wars series focused on the Dark Side, the Sith, and this story is what you chose to produce. It is a missed opportunity of massive scale IMO to put it nicely.
What makes you think the Sith werent involved in episode 3 🤔 Seems you talk about imagination while lacking in it yourself 🤷🏽♂
We do not know what the twin sisters were made of. They could be resurrected babies. Very different from what Plagus wants to do. The term “Ascension” refers to the resurrected Jesus ascending to heaven.
Imagine making up your mind months, if not years, before you know anything? George Lucas didn't ruin your childhood, whining about "woke" makes you look incredibly bigoted, and you always have the option of going away.
Stop pushing dei in other people’s hobbies. you sound like a bot accusing others of bigotry in the face of the overwhelming evidence it’s dei being pushed
shows shit cope
I was interested to see Meg's take as my feed it currently full of "Ep 3 is the worst ever!!" thumbnails (that I haven't bothered to watch)...
I enjoyed the episode, but I also tend to take Star Wars at face-value and while it's fun to think about the lore and whatnot, it's also not something I've emotionally invested. I can see how there may be Force users out there with skills and talents we haven't seen before. I don't recall the Night Sisters reproductive process ever really being "explained" during the animated series. And in their arrogance, I can see both the Jedi and Sith never really investigating it either.
The reason I didn't like this episode is simple, why were the Jedi even there to "test" the obviously too old children to become padawans? For me this lacks basic fundamentals of what the Jedi are. Obi-Wan had to threaten to leave the Jedi order to have Anakin become his padawan because of his age, fear, and attachment. Why would this be different in the High Republic era if the Jedi had these rules and procedures for centuries? There's not even an opposing voice, they are just all on board like this is no big deal.
I think they were there to investigate the witches & if they were found to be Darkside users, put them down. But Sol saw the kids and the mission changed. Also Osha was highly emotionally leaving a massacre & they thought she's a good candidate? Maybe they did things differently back then.
Maybe it's because the girls are why the Jedi don't like taking the children at a older ages or they stop taking them at the older ages.
@wessaxon964 That practice was in effect before them so that makes no sense.
Maybe the Jedi took younger kids after this because of these girls. 10:40
@@thomassoane4302 Sure I can see where the investigation makes sense but the twins have everything the Jedi avoid in a good candidate, theres anger, hate for Mae and Osha has fear, uncertainty, they both have attachment which is forbidden. It make zero sense that the rules would be so far different only 100 years before The Phantom Menace, btw Yoda is alive in this time period and on the Jedi council. This entire story is nonsensical in the context of who the Jedi are fundamentally, again it took a Jedi to threaten to quit the order to get The Chosen One trained.
This felt like a setting up episode… I’m now just waiting for episode 4
I think the idea was that the two groups (Jedi/witches) are both questionable and relatable. I don't think we were meant to "side" with either completely. And I think most people watching understand there are more details to come.
Sol!
Chant was cringe
Not the horrific episode that was predicted, maybe just a low point in the action
I guess the fungus on that tree was in the poison from the last episode
Ooh the poison! Good catch!
That chant SUCKED, I didn’t hate this episode though.
"Freaking Dathomir", lol. I felt it was a very weak episode, and some parts didn't make sense. It's just one episode however.
The fire killing them all doesn't make sense, my theory: the Jedi came back for the twins. The Mother changed her mind about giving up her child to the Jedi, so she told Mae to run away with her sister, not knowing about the fire. The witches decided to defend themselves and allow Mae and Osha escpape. The loud explosion is probably related to the battle between the Jedi and the Witches, with the Jedi killing them all in one fell swoop - somehow. The Jedi want to flee at this point, this is how Torbin get's scarred. Master Sol refused to leave without the twins, but only manages to save Osha.
I love your videos, no hate, just honest opinion. Other videos are full of hate. Thank you, Meg!
Hate for good reasons.
$180m for the series but not necessarily an even split per episode. I would imagine this episode would have been quite cheap to produce. Maybe there’s an epic episode yet to come that took more to make?😊
The series should’ve been released all at once. This genre and the story is suffering from a weekly release, especially since small minds cannot comprehend a story slowly unraveling from different perspectives
It's suffering from haters. That's the story of this show. It's been getting hate before it released. Now it's getting hating before the mysteries are revealed.
hahaha cant wait for peoples reaction to the last of us season 2 as that comes out weekly
Small minds are the people who consume this slop unironically.
Patience young padawan
Agreed. Drop all episodes like they did for ‘Fall Out’ may help Acolyte, but a week to week release only drags it out to a slow death.
Hedlund said"the force is female" "Star wars is gey" , she blaims her failure on Toxic men" .
And one of the actress said she wanted her activism in Star wars.
An actor said " there is no good and evil in real life its not so simple " But in the Sci-fi Star Wars there is only dark side and light side its not the real life. And no good and evil so Hitler was not evil he was just missinderstood, talk about moral compass being off. And the jedi didnt feel the dark powers not logical.
It would be better to make something like Star Wars The old Republic trailers those were soooo good.
Even George Lucas said Disney+ doesent understand Star Wars.
And they always have to push the "girl boss" character just perfect thats narcissism.
I'm loving it. I'm not woke and Leslye Headland is woke but i like her shows. Russian Doll was awesome. Yes episode 3 of the acolyte was slow paced but so were 2 episodes of Andor but nobody complains about that because its related to the Golden Child Rogue One Movie.
Im liking the fight scenes and the way the story is slowly unfolding. Stay positive Meg, there are enough negative Nellie's commenting on this show.
They made it sound like this episode would break things as bad as Episode 8. Watched it, and honestly no issues. People interpret the force differently, no overt modern analogies, and the Jedi werent shown as bad guys.
They were witches. Like Witches of Dathomir. It's how they saw abd used the force.
People are silly.
Rule of cool. Sure, back water cults my find poor versions to create life.
Darth Plagueis from Wish.
People need to relax.
I agree with you. It didn’t break our understanding of the Force any more than the introduction of the Witches of Dathomir did.
I think theres definitely been a lot of exagerrating when it comes to this show. Maybe in hopes to punish disney who knows. But to me nothing about the force was “broken.” It was merely another perspective to it. People really don’t understand the concept of an “unrelible narrator.” Not saying we got that here but in a world as vast as star wars you are going to have different factions and force users. Sure the jedi and sith are dominating factions but there was enough narrative to conclude this group is very similar to the night sisters and as such has their own interpretation of the force.
How did all those people just lie down and die so quickly? It didn't look plausible, none of them were burnt and there wasn't any smoke in the room. The fire engulfed everything in seconds? Was it the Hindenburg! Their interpretation of the force wasn't the worst part.
They are not be killed by the fire
@@gabrieleguasti5503 None of them were missing limbs from a light saber either. I assume they want you to think the Jedi killed them. Maybe, but these were powerful force users who had no issue taking over the mind of of one of them. Again it doesn't seem plausible they were killed so quickly.
@@MrKbeaumont Someone 3rd party was involved , the tree we see is also the same tree that the poison is from, it wouldnt surprise me they were having that meeting and someone killed them all that way
How is their deaths the “worst part?” Its clear theres more to the story then they are letting on. Thats the mystery.
@@MrKbeaumont yes if someone poisoned their dinner maybe the Cookies ?
I knew it, the jedi was taking out all other force user faiths
I think you’re underplaying the difference between the understanding of the Force between the Witches and the Jedi. The Witches seem to take a weaving approach - and this is why I think the Sith (and I suppose the Jedi too) had so much difficulty in creating life. I suspect that the Sith have been hamstrung by their understanding of the Force - it is incomplete despite being deep. I also think, and have thought since the prequel era, that the Jedi also have this problem - they don’t fully get it either. The Jedi aren’t entirely “Right” in their application either.
I’m coming to this show blind. I don’t know much about this era in Star Wars, so everything is new. I’m confused. The writers and directors are stringing us along for a mystery that’s not interesting. And it should be. Politics. Jedi. New lands. Witches. Manny Jacinto. This should be more compelling. But spend most of this episode think how dreary everything is EXCEPT Jodie Turner Smith. She was frequently lit perfectly and she was luminous!
I think this supposed to be like Rashomon, just like TLJ, where you're getting different sides of the same events. Probably best to wait until it's all available and just binge it. Or watch something else...
Jodie Turner Smith was amazing! My first time seeing her act and I was blown away. Gorgeous woman as well.
100% agree.
I think Darth Pleguis is behind slaughter of those Witches, he already lerned that life creation power from coven. He possesed Torbin and attacked Jedi (hence in trailer wehere scenes when Torbin attacks Kelnacca), while they thought it were witches. Jedi killed everyone by mistake.
Looked like they died of a plague.
Meg, thank you for your updates.😊
The Ascension Ceremony came off a PURE CRINGE!
I cannot be the only one who feels that?
I could not believe how bad it was.. It was like self-parody!?
Play back the witches doing their little song or chant or whatever you want to call it...
They are "phoning it in" as the saying goes.
Just awful.
I love all Star Wars content. Let’s not lose our minds over this. It’s just the third episode. We are finding out more and more about everyone with each episode. I have gone into this with an open mind. Let’s see how everything plays out. Thank Meg for the continued breakdowns. MTFBWY!
There is something wrong with “I love all Star Wars.” It indicates you’re a junkie. Really evaluate how you feel about the franchise. You never want to be a junkie. The term is appropriate because it appears that Star Wars is a drug for some.
Disney Star Wars isn’t Star Wars. Period.
@@SecondBreakfastAndThreeH-zo3jp Why are you stalking this channel if everything you ever do is hyperbole and ruin any sort of meaningful discussion with huge proclamations
@Crocthunder THIS IS AMERICUH!
@@Crocthunder People are upset that a franchise they had identified with their whole lives has fallen off a cliff.
The two controversies, the mothers and the thread, were both nothing burgers to me but... I have other problems. It just didn't feel like Star-Wars unfortunately. No problem with lesbian witches, I'm friends with a few! But didn't feel Star-Wars the way the Nightsisters do.
I can't judge the writing yet because I need to see it all in context when they reveal how the Coven died and whether the Jedi were responsible and if so why. I get it if Canon obsessives have an issue with the description of the force but I don't think it's a big deal.
But is The Force a thread or an energy field? I prefer a field but it's just perception and I'm fine with different cultures having different perceptions. Like chi, ki, and pranah here...
"Doesn't feel like Star Wars" and "Bad Writing" have become code-speak for "I demand that my bigotries be pandered to."
@@craigmoffitt2374 Yeah? Well my best friends are lesbian and I'm black so which bigotries do you think aren't being pandered to? I want more Jedi and the force to be a field not a thread. Is that bigotry? I want the character motivations to feel clear and I've acknowledged that they maybe can't in a murder mystery. In this case you're just wrong.
It’s easy to say “wait till the season is over to judge” but Disney CHOSE to release it weekly and that means people are going react and review each episode 😂
Yeah, but you still wait til the whole story is out to judge. Thats how stories work. Thats how tv shows work.
It sounds like they tried to capture the Bene Gesserit and the Aes Sedai (the RJ version of "we have Bene Gesserit at home", Black Ajah were essentially Honored Matres) with this fan fiction version of The Witches, it's a good idea but it has to be written well, this doesn't sound like it was, at all, consult the Gilroys and Filoni/Favreau they must.
Keep bringing us the goods Meg, love your feedback!
I can't understand the reviewers who are upset that there's (a) a witch coven & (b) that they call the Force "the Thread" and have a different philosophy about how it works. First of all, the Sith Order is basically a witches' coven. Secondly, the Night Sisters of Dathomir exist. Thirdly, what difference does it make if another culture calls the Force by a different name? And finally...of course there's a group out there with a view of the Force that offends Jedi sensibilities---see the aforementioned Sith and Night Sisters.
I don't know why people keep saying that Darth Plagueis failed to create life when creating life is all a part of his legend.
Seems like Star Wars fans are looking for something to complain about.
He did fail to create life. The whole reason the Force intervened and created Anakin is because the Sith were trying to take control of it with their experiments, so it sent the Chosen One into the world to destroy them
@@Arander92 Wait, if he failed then why did the Force feel the need to intervene?
@@thehacker4012Cause he wasn't failing he was successful in his practice and the force attempted to create balance. Say plaguise was successful in creating a purely darkside force entity inside smee skywalker, the light side of the force intervined by giving the entity equal parts light to create balance. Resulting in Anakin. That is just a blip in the star wars timeline, there are probably countless times this manipulation has occurred. Like how did the Gods of mortis come to be. Was the father once created through the force like Anakin was, we don't know and all this show is doing is expanding on that lore.
Personally, I enjoyed seeing other witches beyond the Night Sisters. I view this group like The Bendu. I'd Call Them the Bendu Sisters.
I think that when we watch this, we are doing so with too many of our existing expectations in mind. There's been no verification that these twins are a Force Dyad. That's an assumption since we saw one in the sequel trilogy. Going in assuming that they are puts us at a disadvantage as we watch this older part of the Star Wars universe. Likewise, our assumption that the mother used the force to "create" the twins is likewise a huge assumption. While we are led to believe that is likely true, and lets be honest it probably is, when the mother says she created them, it could have been a number of different ways. It doesn't have to be exactly making life in the same way that Plageius does in the expanded older books. The witches are definately doing something that some may consider to be "un-natural" but we shouldn't immedaitely leap to a conclusion that there's not direct evidence for. Lets wait and see what the rest of the story is in tems of what the jedi learned. Did she simply clone herself and they are twin versions of her? The jedi took blood samples.. it may surprise us when all is said and done.
I'm not judging the series episode by episode. I'm going to watch them all and then draw a conclusion. I have had some spots that I've winced a ltitle, but I'm going t take it all in first and then see what I think at the end. It could be a good beginning to the high republic era.. and it could ultimately fall super flat. Time will tell.
Star Wars fandom: This doesn't make sense, I demand to see all the answers in episode 3 in a series of 8. 😂😂😂
literally 🤣 it’s getting annoying
I don't demand that at all. But I do at least expect the show to have logic and continuity to it - the plot leaps are absurd and amateurish.
Let's just shut up and watch it. No questions asked, no thought put into it, just shut, watch it and enjoy. We should be Grateful that we have a Show.

the show runner said she was taking inspiration from the legends so her showing what plagueis tried but it actually working kinda makes sense
Exactly! We have legends characters/books that we should have stories and shows for, but Nope! Leslye wants to make starwars her own.....🚩😡🚩
Please explain how it working makes sense.
@@j4ze114 That is literally what every writer who wrote those books did??? They added there own twist to a story they all worked on, George had little involvement besides rules
@Crocthunder This is not the same. If you don't know, then you don't know. This is an agenda that is DEMONIC by Leslye and Disney, but believe whatever you want!
the sad part is its not bad, the witches have their own way of viewing the force as a thread you can pull, which is fine, but yeah idk, just somthing about the show just isnt quite star wars and i just wish they went a different route, its weird tho they say in the show that "wait till the jedi find out how you made them" refering to the twins, idk if that would be considered a force birth like anikan had, this would be more like witchcraft?
There’s a big time echo of Mae burning the diary and seeing the fire’s reflection in her eyes and the first episode of seeing “Oscha” looking into the space ship fire with sounds of the brendock flashback playing. Could be some evidence towards to fight club theory?
To say the witches of Dathomir are more interesting than this coven is a bit premature. The witches of Dathomir were fleshed out across many, many episodes of TCW, Ahsoka, books, and comics. This coven has gotten 30 minutes of a brand new show. Not a fair comparison imo.
Lol yeh, 30mins of Pagan Moon Worhship, doing cringe expressive artistic dance and acting like possessed nonces 😂😂
The worst part was how long we had to watch the witches do chants, it was way to extra
God, that was cringe. It felt like a cheesy scene from Star Trek, circa 1971.
Yeah like fuck man it would’ve been different if they were chanting in some ancient alien language but the chanting in English took me out of it
it was the fact that the chant was really stupid tbh
This show needs to stop explaining itself so much what part of show not tell do they not understand? But non the less master sol is awesome as always
Finally. They slowly will show us that Anakin is son of Palpatine born the same way as those twins. That will make Kylo and Rey of course incest lovers. But thats normal for Star wars 😂
This last episode was very disappointing. Do they really expect us to believe that a tiny fire burnt down the entire fortress and killed the witches? I expected more from this show, but it's made for 10 year olds. It's Disney so that makes sense. How was ANDOR ever made? Skeleton Crew will be more of the same.
Well, SW was originally made for 10 year olds...but to your question, I don't think they are expecting us to believe the fire killed them. I don't think it did. What did they have yet to show us. Could have been a third party. Could have been the Jedi. Could have been a Masada-like moment. Who knows? I sure don't. I guess we'll see.
So, I think what we're supposed to see here: is that this is how the prophecy of the Chosen One came to be, but also, this has to be where the original information about creating life from the Force likely came from. Like, I'm sure the Sith did their experiments, they've been doing sith experiments for millenia at this point, but the idea of creating life from the Force, seems like a new concept at this point. If you go back to KOTOR and TOR, the Sith were doing alchemical experiments on life, that's how we got Teren'teks. But I don't think the idea of 'lets create a person with the Force' really crossed a Sith's mind, until Tenebrous and Plagueis.
The line from Palpatine is: "Have you ever heard the Tragedy of Darth Plagueis the Wise?" To which Anakin says no, and we know how that goes; But there's the whole line where Palps says: "He was so powerful, and so wise, he could use the Force to influence the midi-chlorions to create life."
Ya'll need to bloody remember, this is 100 years before Phantom Menace, and knowledge like that doesn't come from thin air. The Sith had to learn it from somewhere, whether it's a lie, or not, I don't care. The concept of this sort of Sith Alchemy is deeply rooted in the lore, and it's not some new thing, or some canon-breaking nonsense that people want to say it is. And I know a lot of people are going to yell at me for this opinion, but Tenebrous had to learn it from somewhere, Plagueis had to learn it from somewhere.
On top of that, "The Darkside is the path to many abilities the Jedi consider unnatural" What is the Dark Side? Anything not a core Jedi Belief. So how do we know this wasn't already a known thing that was considered a taboo anyway? Again, I say, the knowledge HAD TO COME FROM SOMEWHERE. It didn't manifest itself out of thin air. (Pun totally intended.)
"So, I think what we're supposed to see here: is that this is how the prophecy of the Chosen One came to be"
No, this is wrong. The Sith never created Anakin, it was always the Force as a retaliation against the Sith
No, knowledge like that comes from *Abeloth* the witch coven is being descieivied I think, by Abeloth. They're obviously using darkside, arcane magics.
I'll give you some clues to it being Abeloth. Leslie Headland said Dave Filoni helped advise her on her Acolyte show. She said when they approached what the witch coven's whole mantra was. Leslie says they were honoring the Clone Wars. She says "the Mother is the power of One. The power of Two are the twins and the power of many are the Jedi."
So if we look into the Clone Wars series, specifically the Mortis Arc, you have "The Father" who is Balance and Order of *The Force*.
You have "The Daughter" who is Lightside of The Force.
You have "The Son" who is Darkside of The Force.
And you have "The Mother" on that opposite spectrum who is "Chaos" of The Force. She got banished from "The Ones" Who are all powerful *Force Deities*.
The witch coven have been worshiping the Force Deity *Abeloth* and possibly don't even realize it. It is Abeloth who working through the darkside of the force, and those witches dabbling in darkside arcane magics, create life, and were gifted it in the form of Dyad like twins, from Abeloth.
But their "gift" or Miracle came at a price (always does when you worship a deity), and now Abeloth will possess.
Look at that Sith looking Anime mask wearing figure, what does their mask look similar to? The artistic depictions of *Abeloth*
Now you may say we'll thats not Canon, Leslie Headland has said she and her writing group borrowed from EU too.
References are the article Entertainment.
I think most Fans here will end up being wrong on all of this, and what you'll find by the end of this series is Filoni, as "Chief Creative" if Lucasfilm now, has influenced his whole Mortis lore into the backbone of Leslie Headland's Acolyte series; in order to set up Abeloth's return and eventual manifestation into the Galaxy.
I don't think we will possibly see her here, but more working on the form of possession of certain individuals like Mae. But Ahsoka Season 2 will explore Abeloth further; it strongly implies and hints that is who is calling to Baylan.
@@Arander92 Bingo! Exactly 🫰🤜
is it possible the twins were created with help from the sith, like part of a wider plan? incorporating some cool lore with the Sith somehow is the only way I'd become more onboard with the whole twins born from the force/thread stuff.
Someone didn’t read Darth Plagueis novel, and how much he actually had to learn and discover to master what was shown in the novel and only expanded upon by Palpatine’s dialogue. Everyone has to learn from somewhere; if plageuis just randomly dropped in and knew how to do it… well that’d be terrible storytelling
I don’t think this did any damage to the lore. It just expanded it and showed that the Jedi aren’t the only ones with a viewpoint on the force or what dark side powers can do. If anything, it reinforced that dark side powers can make life. The Jedi prophecy is a Jedi prophecy, the force is not owned by any of these groups.
All this shows to me is that the witch couple wanted children, but didn't have a man to impregnate them. So the head witch used magic to impregnate her partner. They didn't create life from nothing, she just found a way to have a child with her partner
I think this is the best of the 3 episodes. Still not great tho. Also I saw yet another example of the jedi imposing their will on the galaxy. Who are they to decide who gets to use the force? They show up to planets and take force sensitive children to further their own agenda.
The Jedi have never decided who gets to use the force or not, the only thing they care about is making sure those using the force aren't abusing the dark side. If I recall correctly, anyone can leave the Jedi order without any issues and there are plenty of examples of force sensitive cultures and people that the Jedi leave in peace.
Thank you for your channel, and your thoughts. It never matters whether I agree or disagree, I just truly appreciate your thoughts, insights, and opinions. What makes Star Wars great is how it touches each of us individually. ( I will also say that this episode shows only 1 POV, and I think as the series moves on, we will see these events though other POVs, and in those moments will find more context of how these witches weld the force. ) and while this episode did not really work for me either, I did like some of the ideas it explored.
So if palpatine can create annakin, then why is he later obssssed with Project Necromancer? If he can create life, why is he so obsessed with creating a clone body to inhabit? If he can manifest life, couldn’t he also manifest himself inside a force user?
This episode should have been episode one and it would have done a lot more for the series.
I thought the force was a source of knowledge, yet it is implied they are not aware of the outside world. Stone does not burn. And they are just toying us on forse use with witches they where not killed with lightsabers
I didn’t even register the connection to Plagueis aside from the implication that the dark side was used to conceive the twins. Personally that didn’t bother me too much. I think we’ll get more answers later on. I’m alsoOK with getting the context but not the full picture. But I don’t think they needed a whole episode for this flashback with how few answers we got. It’s the same problem as s3 ep3 of Mando but on a smaller scale. I get what the show runners were trying to do, but it could’ve been interwoven into the rest of the story better. Or split between the two episodes. This way threw off the pacing some. I’m also starting to see what you said about this show not taking enougg risks though it doesn’t really bother me. I wasn’t particularly bothered by the way the force was handled in this epsode. This is just the witches’ perspective. I liked the episode overall though I do agree that the night sisters are way bettwr so far.
Dont think the coven intentionally created twins. They probably wanted a child of the dark side, but the will of the force balanced out their magic Plageis was just one person creating anakin throgh an unknowing vessel. They were a group creating a life through a willing vessel, so maybe it was a bit easier for them. Are all the witcjes accaunted for among the bodies? Maybe Mae`s birth mother is the master? My guess is that the coven attacked the jedi when they came to take both kids.
I typically like your takes on Star Wars content. Truthfully, this was some excellent storytelling who cares about this canon/legends jiber jabber. It is an excellent story and I enjoyed it thoroughly
Lmao boring trash heap of an episode.
It was disappointing to see how little care has been taken with SW.
💯
I disagree. The twins are likely a result of the combination of cloning and artificial insemination. You’re taking this the worst way possible.
I found it hard to believe that a coven of witches who wielded the Force couldn't escape a fire. Yet we saw dozens dead, including the head witch. And Mae's reaction to Osha choosing to become a Jedi was way over the top. "You lied about us sticking together, so I'm burning you and everybody in this palace"
Well that was a heaping pile of 💩. So sad as a life long fan since as a 10yr old seeing Star Wars in 1977. Disney has been doing the worst to destroy one of the most valuable IP!
“They wanted fans to see an empowered group of strong force users but they come across as extremely selfish, insular, narcissistic and manipulative.” Just like Leslye Headland then! She is basically dictating how the viewers should feel and I do not like that at all. And why do some people relish so much shade being thrown at the Jedi? Is it because of things from the comics and books? In live action Qui-Gon Jinn left the decision of whether Anakin was to train as a Jedi to Shmi and Anakin himself.
Really i looked at them as a group of mothers protecting their children. From a group of strangers looking to kidnap their children. The witches even allowed them to take one of their daughters. And they appear to have been murdered anyways. Did we watch the same show?
The Force Diade is freaking stupid. Its a lazy writing tool JJ used in the Sequel trilogy to account for a horrible storyline.
The reason the episode/series itself is a problem os because they decided on inserted messaging over story.
They WANT the discourse to be negative, then be mad that ots negative. Lucas Film and it leadership is failing.
I see it otherwise. See this mother Coral as Shmi ,and imagine Mother Anaseya as Palpatine. Now you see,the big reveal happened. Palpatine Anakins true father and I like it
The dyad is a rarity. Force babies are more likely to be TRIED for because that’s the prophecy. But there’s only one Chosen One and it’s still Anakin.
The Sith? Ki Adi Mundi could be correct, from a certain point of view. They died on Malachor, but they’ve been imbuing their essence in artifacts for millennia. The helmet is guiding the fallen Jedi and witches to train and facilitate *The Return of the Sith.* 😮
They don’t mind if there is discourse. It’s the controversy that keeps people talking about *Star Wars.* When you fall silent, we’ll know the apathy says they went too far. ❤😅❤
Keep loving Star Wars.
Literally, how much does ANY ONE care what you say? You all comment, and THEROY didn't give a flying fandango
Mother Koril is the same race as Darth Maul. It states for her she's a Zabrak. It lists that they're from Dathomir and some other places. The fact that the co-parent of Osha and Mae has a Dathomir connection (perhaps!) I'm calling it now... In season 2 of Ahsoka they're opening the coffins and in SOME OF THEM will be Aneseya and the rest of her coven as fully turned Nightsisters. In the episode, Aneseya says something along the lines of them being refugees. From who? Jedi or Nightsisters, or both?
The key thing I picked up on in the things that Aneseya said is that what Jedi call the Force is something that was free flowing. The more important thing she eludes to is that the skill PREDATES the Jedi by many centuries, millennia or longer. Yoda was born in 896 BBY, and of that has trained Jedi for 800 years as a Jedi Master. The idealistic approach that might have begun the Jedi on their path has long since been eroded, even in Yoda's case (look at how rigid and to the rules he was over Anakin Skywalker). I think the Nightsisters became as rigid and to the rules as the Jedi because Allya had trained them. My opinion is that these witches, with Aneseya as their leader, fled from this rigid system to find their freedom again.
I think this episode is a finger on the pulse of sorts, seen from someone else's point of view of what the Force is, how it should be treated, and why "boxing it in" as the Jedi did is not good. Also, the situation with twin is that it puts on display the whole duality of the so-called "chosen one" and "balance of the force" where I think that Luke Skywalker, embracing both the light and dark sides of the force at the end of his life is the proper way...
Going back to Mother Koril. She carried the twin, and Aneseya created them. But something about her seems odd. Like she was constantly belittling the kinder Osha, and always seemingly encouraging the aggressive nature of Mae. She's a Zabrak. I saw others suggest Darth Plagueis, but it states for Osha and Mae they were born about 156 BBY, and Plagueis was born between 147 and 120 BBY in the Legends part of the Wookieepedia. Darth Tenebrous was born between 247 and 167 BBY, and according to the wiki he wears a respiration system, which could explain the distorted voice of whoever Mae met with, and also has a red lightsaber too. Maybe this was a first attempt at getting a Sith apprentice, and maybe the same stubbornness that caused Mae to set fire and kill the coven also caused her to leave Tenebrous. Maybe before she was his potential apprentice there was another apprentice, who'd infiltrated the coven, manipulated its leader and birthed two children of which one could become a Sith...
I think that being a sports fan has made me less likely to fall for knee jerk reactions. Like I'd say to my fellow college football fans who freak out after an early loss- it's a long season. Let it play out, and then you can still freak out at the end if it's sh*tty.
Hated this episode. Liked the first two. This was 30 minutes of garbage. Hopefully 4 will be back to form.
I liked it it explained a bit of the back story of the twins
Honestly I think this was the best episode so far. It seems lots of opinions on this show were already made before its release. I still don’t like the cheesy sitcom transition music, but I think the story is interesting so far. Once the whole season is available we might see this series in a completely different light.
I do have a different view. I love Star Wars and was in from the first movie. I don't watch trailers because I want the story to unfold as it is broadcast. After the original 3 movies I read a few Timothy Zahn books. So I am not so wrapped up in what is Legend and Cannon. I would of preferred episode 3 to have been the 1st episode. Especially since the reveal of the twins came in the beginning. So no big surprise. I love mythology so I found the witches interesting. I was sad to see them die. Unlike the 4 Jedi who I have not connected with as of yet. Always appreciate your reviews. I am enjoying having more Star Wars shows.
The quantity of shows is fine, it's the quality that is sadly lacking
Some of the dialogue was weird. The chanting bit was cringey. I feel we're still not getting the full picture of what happened.
I still enjoyed the episode though.
The chanting was horrible!!! I watched to end of the credit roll and there was this chanting vocal that sounded so haunting. Why didn’t they use that with subtitles instead? It sounded and felt so much more like Star Wars🤷🏻♂️
I think this is a flashback from Osha's point of view and It raises more questions than it answers. Why do the Jedi feel so guilty if Mae started the fire? Why did Torbin kill himself when he was only a padawan during the events and therefore had less responsibility? Why does Osha want to be a jedi? Her mothers raised her in an isolated society, if they told the girls about the jedi, it would have been negative so why does Osha think they are good? How does she know their symbol well enough to draw it? Why were the "not-nightsisters" prosecuted to begin with? The Jedi usually don't bother people unless they are causing harm.
I think they are setting up a scenario where the jedi killed the witches and covered it up. I'm not going to be down with that as its not something the jedi did. In the filoniverse they know about the nightsisters but they never persecute them, in fact when the nightsisters are ultimately destroyed it is by Dooku and the separatists.
I'm still going to watch the show but I don't like where its going.
I thought it was fine. I think the end with the fire was an illusion from Osha and Sols' perspective. I don't think sol or osha know what actually happened. The other jedi I think were involved at something else during those events. I am also not so sure the witch coven is dead
I like the idea of a cult with a crazy view on the force (that is wrong, but they don't know is wrong) and I liked the setting and characters, I just think the execution was a little off (like you said). I thought Mother Koril was a bit wooden. I would have liked to have seen more of their "fortress" because it looks ENOURMOUS from the distance shots but we only see one room, a corridor and the meeting spot. I thought all the jedi were great in this.
There are more flashbacks to come I think, some of the trailer footage wasn't in this flashback episode. I'm still enjoying the show though, there is only one series I've ever watched where every episode was excellent and it wasn't star wars, so I don't expect everything to be 10/10 every time, my hope is that this episode matters more once we have context in future episodes.
