    Replacing the disc and pads are a must in my opinion especially after sitting for so many years. It’s a peace of mind for the new owner and adds more value to it than what it cost you. 👍

    Rob, I have to say I agree with you on the discs for the Porsche. There is nothing that I hate more than looking at a beautiful shiny car and then seeing a set of tatty discs. I would have replaced them exactly as you did.

    986 brake components are cheap as chips, so renewing them is worthwhile. Makes the car look great, and certainly makes it much easier to sell. A set of "Boxster S style" drilled discs is what I would have fitted, though.

    Good work guys I’ve owned a porsche Boxster 987 since 2014 and drive it regularly (I think yours is a 986 model) I just keep on top of everything and its been totally reliable. Tiptronic gearbox has been faultless and I’ve had two gearbox services just as preventive maintenance. Disc and pads & fluids are to be changed as required- no difference to any other car. Always follow you guys Chris especially makes me smile. Keep it up

    I wouldnt worry too much about the gearbox issue at this stage. Even the manuals have shift cable issues. My 987 S had the linkage pop off on the gearbox end and almost stranded me. Managed to reach underneath and pop in into 'a' gear (turned out was 5th) but got me home.
    On the manuals there are aftermarket kits available to effectively 'lock' the cable ends onto the gearbox to prevent it happening again.
    Im sure yours will be an easy, if time consuming, fix. Keep at it guys, the 986/987 is such a brilliant chassis.

    100% correct to change the rotors, yes, they would clean up, BUT where the pads were sitting would wear at a different rate causing pulsing at low speeds.
    I’d call that essential, I have put quite a few low mileage cars back on the road, I wouldn’t even bother to try anything other than a full replacement.

    Personally I’m not a fan of ezibleed. If the tyre shop that inflated the tyre had water in their compressor then it’ll contaminate the new fluid. I bought a Sealey pressure bleeder that you pump up by hand and it has a pressure gauge, and when you’re done and release the pressure, it sucks the excess fluid out of reservoir and leaves it spot on the max mark when you screw the cap back on.

  • @jonbell2305
    @jonbell2305 Год назад +1

    Them bleed kits are ok but the ones with the bottle pump attached are so much better.
    And there only £40 on ebay.
    No wheel needed or air pump.
    And they do the clutch pedal fluid as well so much easier.

    I was using an Easybleed on my 2001 Passat, at no more than 20psi, and the top of the reservoir split sending brake fluid everywhere. Clearly it had got brittle with age. The reservoir appears identical to that on the Boxster and I was convinced that was the thing that was going to 'end badly' as in the title!

    Only the passenger wiper should be curved (upwards, like a smile), the drivers is straight. I would have deffo changed those brakes, usually on this and the 996 the inner sides of the disks are usually much worse, especially the fronts.
