  • On this beautiful June day 2 harriers arrived from North Carolina to fly some military training routes over the Adirondack Mountains in UpState NY.
    Pilots were very professional and told us all about the aircraft and the history.
    Although it is old school, I like it!

      Can confirm. My mother took me to Farnborough air show when I was a kid (we live locally so most of the time we can see most stuff from our window anyway) and bought two ice creams, forcing me to hold them while this Harrier was blasting away hovering there. Surprised I didn't have long term damage.

      Try living with them in RAF Germany. We deployed within the hour and spent days camping in the field.

      Not much longer.. there are only 2 squadrons left in the Corps. 231 (in the video) and 223.
      Spain and India are still flying them.

    I read somewhere about Harriers on a carrier and the person writing said the Harrier hovering next to the carrier over the sea was the loudest thing he'd ever experienced!

    AV8B F402-RR-40X(X) I-Level Mechanic Marines retired. I miss the sound of these birds. When deployed, I would fall asleep to their whiny engine sounds. When stateside, the same.. I miss it horribly.

      @@nickmagee-brown739 you do know the Harrier was originally British....right? Hell, the AV-8B was really a British Sea Harrier with better performance that just so happened to be built stateside.

      @@nickmagee-brown739 Its British

      Originally British. Vastly improved by McDonnell Douglas, including F/A-18 like avionics so i believe.
      Back in the day in Blighty, the SHAR FA2 version ( Fleet Air Arm, Royal Navy ). Used to routinely "kill" F-15C, from Spangdahlem in Germany, over the Bristol Channel during trainig excercises. And then go to the USA at Red Flag and do it again. Remarkable aeroplane.

    • @TheRealBleach
      @TheRealBleach 4 года назад

      @@muppetrowlf1473 Yeah I guess because the Harrier exited British service in 2011 (there were only a little amount of jets actually left) and is exiting full service this year, the Americans have massive fleet of them and are retiring them in 2025 so they ought to keep it up to date. I believe the Harriers in the UK were also updated with new BAE systems prior to selling most of them

    Beautiful birds, great video! It's a shame they closed Griffiss AFB. these 2 Marine harriers should be visiting the t-line at a still active Griffiss AFB filled with B-52s and KC-135s.

    America as so much good quality infrastructure. We had RAF Harriers land at our field here in the UK back in the 90's. They wiped out two of our runways. At least one runway got resurfaced from the MOD payout.

  • @seeker1432
    @seeker1432 4 года назад +1

    Those landings where so smooth. Great plane and being Brritish ofcause i like them. I read that this generation of Harrier was joint build by US and Britain. No wonder why there pilots like them. All that experiance rolled into one. The F35 must be an amazing plane with all that knowledge from both countrys into its desighn. Amazing pilots in those.

    People think for some reason that these are phased out. But no, they still use them to this day. At least they did up until 2019 when I got out. They're not as common but they're still in service. They're just so fat and cantankerous.😆
