This female artist is one of my all-time favorite female artist. Annie Lennox is sooooo great and sooooo cool in her expressions and delivery of songs!!! She has that it factor. This is the No.1 favorite song from her that I really like. I play it and watch the video over 10 times a year. I sent a request to you Chod a year ago...because I want Dee and you to react to it!!!! Glad you have decided to react to it now!!! And Give Dee my Love and hug for me!!!
This song is euphoric. I can imagine it as part of a soundtrack where someone is slowly slipping away into the ether. The time has come, and they are not ready for the moment. Regret for the choices they made are responsible for the doom they now face. The light is bright, and there is no going back. You are looking down at your body, surrounded by the scene that frames your final moment. Tragic. Afraid. And then, you are gone.
This song is just astounding. It’s clear Aretha Franklin is an influence for her and yet she’s not attempting to copy Aretha- she’s her own thing. I can’t emphasize enough how difficult it can be to capture honest emotion like this. This is not “put on” emotion so many singers do- (in the late 80s it was all about showy singing and the notes only dogs can hear) People know when they’re hearing and seeing something real. That emotion is utterly naked, and you don’t have to sing big for that. Billie Holiday, Karen Carpenter are two good examples. That said, this song moves me to tears every time. This whole album- every song is right up at this level. It kills me that she didn’t really do more solo work after this other than her cover album Medusa, and I think one more album with Stewart (or a single?) as The Eurythmics. She’s imo one of the GREATEST female singers period.
Yes! you are right. It is a tribute to Janis Joplin and No One has pick that up!!! But the song is one the break-up between Stewart who was apart of the Eurythmics.
As awesome as the studio version is there is a live version (Why live in 2000.) on here where she is Alon at the the piano that BLOWs THIS AWAY. virtuoso performance. Nailed it. a must see/listen
She is truly amazing!! Another really great song by her is Money Can't Buy It. It's worthwhile the time and energy, for real. This song speaks to the lifelong seeker in me. I always want to know why!
I don't think that she intended to pay homage to Janis Joplin. They happened to wear similar colors. React to her solo career songs Walking On Broken Glass, Love Song For A Vampire, No More I Love You's and This Little Bird please.
I've read several pieces of interviews with her and not once have I seen her say this had anything to do with Janis. However, she does state it was about the breakup of the band between her and Stewart. When asked about this song in Daniel Rachel's book The Art of Noise: Conversations with Great Songwriters, Lennox replied: "It's basically about the point we humans inevitably come to when we realize that the knots and twists in relationships simply can't be untangled, and we're left dangling with a massive question mark with no apparent resolution. Why? Why? Why? Haven't we all asked that question of ourselves and the universe?"
In my top 3 female singers of all time. This is off of her "Diva" album which is in my top 5 of all time. The whole album is worth reacting to. "Legend in my Living Room", "Money Can't Buy It" and "Cold" are good to start with. I hope you remember I've always given you songs worth checking out in the past.
I love Annie. My favorite of *everyone*. I'll look for your other reactions. And btw, ignore the ñegatron complainer in a comment. I dont mind if a reactor is stopping a song to share their thoughts. I wouldnt remember everything if I waited until the end. And I have a fast forward button for the ones who go on for longer than I like.
Gets it completely wrong about a Janis Joplin connection and then says 'I'm going to have to go back now and listen to the lyrics'.I knew that he hadn't a clue by the way he kept pausing at inappropriate times but to admit that he wasn't even listening - christ.
Dont interrupt her performance dude. Comment at the end. Don't make a youtube excuse either. Other reactors allow the song to play through. No 👍 or subscription from me, sorry.
Nothing whatsoever to do with Janis Joplin. This is the absolute worst reaction you have done. Did the lyrics sink in at all???? Throughout the entire song you talked about completely unrelated things. You grinned like the Cheshire Cat while listening to an immensely sad song. This song brings people to tears and you sat there grinning.
One of the best voices I’ve ever heard, any genre, any style. Annie is just brilliant, a stunning voice.

Also from this album "Walking on Broken Glass", which is another great song and great video.
Another great Scottish singer songwriter
I always cry. So emotional.

I love that interpretation as I now have a forever 32 Y/O son and for a few years I couldn't listen to this without crying. Thanks for that!
Absolutely! This song and it's lyrics are so meaningful to me, and my current state 👌
She's so amazing.
She's doin a 'Diva" pose brother!
This entire album is FIRE. Do your self a wonderful thing and go back and listen through each track.

I love Annie Lennox whether on her own or with the Eurythmics her voice is stunning as always and she looks beautiful.
Her Central Park concert is Legendary brother!

I've seen that. She goes straight to church. Her charisma is off the charts.

He's a Toddler... Toddler's these days like to interrupt and Not really listen or appreciate the feeling of True music back from our days.

Tarzan I never got that. But you be you
Did he just reference Paula Abdul while talking about Annie Lennox's singing???
