Would be awesome if you could do a comparison between DMT and atoma I have DMT stones and think they are great but if the atoma ones are really that much better I might have to upgrade.
Did you ever try atomas ? I was thinking the same thing but I don't like that this guy said they wear down. I thought the high end diamond stones were meant to last years
@@BerserkeR_031 I have since bought some atomas and have to agree with you. Mine works good for lapping waterstones, not really fan of sharpening on it since it feels like scratching those old plastic 3d picture things.
@@david111davies Im sure by this point you've either long since bought some yourself or decided against it but the atomas and DMTs do wear down a little, DMT moreso, they have extra diamonds stuck on the surface break off and the plate wears down to its actual grit rating. not a fan of atoma for sharpening they feel too bumpy, DMT and ezlap make better diamond sharpening stone in my opinion. ATOMA are good for lapping/flattening though.
Do you think a budget(high low end) setup consisting of: Atoma 400(Coarse stone/Flattener)Chosera 1000(Medium) and Speciality 3000(Fine) for mainly HRC 58 knives is a good starting point? I chose Speciality 3000 cause it's probably better than The economical counter part, and as it's main purpose is polishing and stropping it won't get used fast? Am I wrong?
quoting "We think this Atoma stone can be used to flatten stones with a grain size varying from 800 up to 8000, you could, however, experience it differently."

@@david111davies It depends if you know how to usem them, he probably apply way too much pressure being used to whetstones
Atoma's are better, for lapping and sharpening. Check big reddit threads.

Hi ricky, is the combination diamond stone 400/1200 is better than 400 atoma ?
what grid range can i flatten with the atoma 400??

Wish atoma made a 300 instead of the 400
