OG Kratos was like a Shounen villain and had that chaotic whirlwind performance that brought it to life. New Kratos is like a retired pit fighter trying to be a good person and fix his deep rooted issues
Old kratos wasn't always angry, he was *mostly* angry, and that anger is warranted. Led to killing his family Suffered nightmares for years Had his brother stolen and killed by the gods. He served for ten years in promises of relief, but was misled. Litterary everyone he trusted back stabbed him, gods and titans, Died on multiple occasions Being gaslit by Zeus nonstop And he wasn't even allowed to kill himself. All of that betrayal and disappointment turned him into a pessimist killer with no remorse
Old kratos isn't even mostly angry he's like a tempered fire. Young kratos is that bonfire of rage. Old kratos is that end of the night heat. Can still return to those hot flames but you gotta work for it to come out
Only people that never betrayed him and stood by him until the end were Orkos, Pandora and that one last remaining Spartan soldier. And uhm... I guess Aphrodite...
@@fawn7531 it's probably from that nostalgia factor, I totally understand it, I prefer present Kratos, but past Kratos will always have a spot in my heart
Kratos is very misunderstood. He isn't always angry and has always been a great character. He has been calm so many times even when he was young. When athena said they wouldn't remove his memories of killing his family, he didn't swear vengeance on the gods then, he just calmly accepted it and thought the only way to remove it was by ending it. Like things like that is what makes both old and young kratos really good. It was when after he served the gods many times and they wouldn't give him his freedom, that is when he had enough and swore Vengeance on the gods. Bro has gone through so much sh*t. Killing his own family which he never intended to do, having to kill his own mother because of her monster transformation which Zeus is at fault for, and just after finally finding and making amends with his brother, he has to burry him as well. He truly for a while had no one left. Old kratos is really good as well. He lives every day knowing what he has done and tries to move on but then later comes to realise he needs to accept it and just be better. Like kratos is a lot vocal as well. anyways I'm just saying both young and old kratos are really good in my opinion.
God of war is one of the single players series that has aged amazingly . I’ve played every game even the psp ones and I love every game for different reasons 😊
Am I the only one who was reminded of the Hydras from GOW1 with the Nidhogg fight? That gave me heavy nostalgia ngl, especially with how Nidhogg looks.
I'm just getting into the GoW series now. I've been interested for a long time, but finally decided to commit a couple of months ago. I blazed trough the old entries in the series and just this week finally beat GoW III (which I'm glad lets me continue immediately to GoW 2018, cuz otherwise I would've been unsatisfied with that ending lol). It was an amazing experience so far, despite every game I played up until now being over a decade old, and although there were some frustrating moments here and there, I loved Kratos starting off rightfully angry yet altogether not a monster, but then slowly decending into vengeance obsessed madness troughout the games. I loved how raw especially III was and slaughtering Greek gods and titans alike one after the other. Killing Zeus and Hermes was especially satisfying, though most of Kratos' victims didn't even have to die and just brought it upon themselves by being stupid (aside from Poseidon's poor wife). I'm a couple of hours into GoW 2018 now and so far I'm liking the game's evolution. I kinda miss the old savage Kratos on a warpath, but the story taking a more central role over some filler stuff between fights is a great change to the formula. In terms of combat I do think the game evolved as well, since most of the fights up to III can just be mashed trough with maybe an occasional roll or parry here and there, but 2018 is more Souls like, requiring you to pay attention to timing and positioning to dodge. All in all, the game definitely improved as it evolved, but I'd be lying if I said I didn't also kinda miss the old game's simplicity and Kratos being an unstoppable menace. Edit: I also really miss my Blades of Chaos, as much as I like the axe. They were such an iconic and amazing weapon for their range and versatility.
I don't have a preference when it comes to PS2/PS3 era of God of War vs PS4/PS5 era. Both had very fun gameplay and awesome moments. I'm cool with both
Yo Afro, just wanted to say that such half-playthrough format is really good for big games like this one Keeping most of the story stuff but cutting out upgrades and side quests (most of them are truly boring) is just the way to go, so keep it up Peace✌
awesome video as always afro. I wasn't fortunate to get to play the older god of war back in the day but I can tell based on what I see on RUclips of the older god of war this reboot is better
hey bro i wanna say thanks big time. I started working on my youtube channel a year ago when i was in a super dark place. And i have been working on this channel hard and im about to become a youtube partner now. You're definitely one of my biggest youtube inspirations, and helped me push through hurdles, so just wanted to say thanks.
The impending death update for ur real life homeboy is wild lol I will be tuned in for sure to see if he’s indeed safe OR if I’ll need to press F to pay my respects
Man where TF were you man, WE BEEN WAAAIIIITTTIIIINNNNGGGG since The Play My Sh*t Intro For This Content jk jk Glad to see you back homie, Happy New Year Everyone
I like both Kratos from both series for different reasons. God of War was very much originally a hack n slash which feels really good when you just want to kill some shit. It also didn't have much of a storyline so it was fairly similar to Diablo in both of those terms. Different enough, but definite similarities. God of War (2018) and Ragnarok really rewards you for smarter gameplay and lining up combos better, while still feeling sorta faithful to the old games with multiple attack strings and weapons with different abilities that help you progress in different ways. Where new GoW really does a 180 from the previous games though is the character development, the story, and the emotional dialogue, as well as the references for us nostalgia junkies. Kratos before was stubbornly who he was, but Kratos now has come a long way even just between the last two games. Consider, Kratos calls Mimir "Head" through most of the first game, but calls him "brother" in this one several times, and Mimir most of the time. He stays his hand against Freyja in the beginning even though she's actively trying to kill both Kratos and Atreus, and is still convinced that he can regain her trust and friendship. Optimism, from the demigod that once burned the world down out of pessimism and guilt. It's even more interesting, because the peace he sought in GoW 2 he actually found centuries later, by avoiding war, not completing labors. Both games have their merits and even times when you'd want to play one or the other.
I think it's kind of insane people think those two are gonna get together. It's kinda like thinking just because some girl is hot, John Wick would marry her even after she killed his dog. There are some things you don't get past.
I know everyone has different skill levels but it makes me wonder how seereax struggle on this 😂, also happy new year afro, and hope whatever life throws at you, I hope you can parry it back 😊
I find it funny that this is the title because I recently saw a post that asked "Would rather be protected by Young Kratos and have to fight Old Kratos?" Vice-versa I picked protected by old Kratos cause fuck young Kratos

The way they brought out his emotions in Ragnarok was amazing. Absolutely loved it.
Yeah, that reconciliation with Freya gets me every time. I mean, sort of reconciliation.
Seereax gotta be hurtin after seeing Afro go easy mode on the boss that was working his shit😂
Ain't nobody fallin' for that bro
Afro back with new Ragnarok content?
Now that's how you kick off the New Year 🎉
The "cinematic me CINEMATIC ME NOW!!!" was so intense it makes me laugh every time lol

@telegrammeafrosenjuxll6504 Hit u up? Where?
@telegrammeafrosenjuxll6504 didn’t even know you were doing a giveaway.
lol im amazed that he fought Nidhogg with the weapon it's resistant against (it's weak to flames) and managed to beast it like that. GG btw.
Tbh that’s what I was thinking the whole time. I was like, isn’t he confused that he’s doing like 10 damage a hit lmao?!

I didn't know how to wield the blades properly in the nidhogg fight this was my first gow game btw I can use them ez now
