I bought a ZZ plant a few years ago and it has turned into a monster. It goes outside every year into a bright shaded spot and only comes back in for the winter. It sends out new growth twice a year, and I've had to repot it every single year, too. Now it's in a large 2' glazed ceramic pot and it's the heaviest plant I own. I'm no weakling, yet it's getting to the point where even I can barely pick it up anymore. I'm going to have to find an even larger pot for it again this year. I absolutely love it!🌿

It's a very hardy plant indeed! You can actually place it anywhere in your home, in either light or dark areas. It doesn't matter if you forget to water it occasionally until the soil is completely dry, because it actually prefers drought to dampness. Once a month should do depending on the size of your plant. Also when you bring a new Zamioculcas into your home, give it at least 5 days in one place to get acclimatised to the surroundings before you move it or water it.

ZZ plants are actually quite expensive here. Usually 30-50 for a few petioles.
I actually lucked out because mine was still a 6" nursery pot. So I got mine for $15. Most ZZs in nurseries here are well established and generally expensive because of it.
My ZZ propagations rooted rather quickly. But no new growth in months, unfortunately.

These are amazing plants! I want more, and of the variegated variety. My first one I picked up last year is a cluster of 11 plants that was only about 6" tall with solid green leaves. I figured it would take years to fill out but I guess mine loved my custom soil mix I repotted it to as this last spring every tuber sent up a fat stem, and it's almost 2' tall now and looks amazing filled out! It was really fascinating to watch it grow! Sort of reminds me of how cycads grow. I got to have more of them! lol

The bulb was really confusing for me during repotting because I'd never seen anything like it and knew nothing about ZZs, so thank you for demystifying that for me! I also could see that it had more stems, but it's down to two... fingers crossed that it grows a few more, soon - I fertilized it a week after repotting.

See, I watched this in preparation for the ZZ I was planning on buying, and I misunderstood- you said its roots take a while to grow, I totally misheard and was like "oh ok, a slow growing plant then." Last weekend I brought home my ZZ, took a picture of it for my reference, and noticed today 6 days later that its young shoots have grown over 3 inches. It has been growing so fast that it was noticeably taller from the morning to the night each day. The thing is a monster. I can't wait to see how big it gets with time

To propagate cut a branch and put in water and ad a few granules of sugar in the water. The carbon in sugar excites the root growth process and it will have roots in about a month to a month and a half. Change water every week and ad sugar every time. Just maybe ten granules of sugar.

Wish I had watched this video a long time ago. I told the lady at the nursery I needed a plant for a room with virtually no natural light, and this is what she recommended. Glad it didn’t die over all these months, and now will get more proper care. Thanks for the video!

You can mix sand into soil to reduce the amount moisture it can hold also like 50% sand 50% potting soil i would add some perlite to tho.

Cool! One of my favorite plants.
I just pulled apart a couple rooted stems off my big one to give to my son. That’s the best way to propagate these I think. Root division.
I’ve noticed people are starting to freak out about the Zz Raven. Are they much different to grow? I personally think they look dead, so I won’t buy one but I’m curious how they got it to be black like that?

Yeah, I'd agree w/you on propagation. As far as ZZ Raven, I want one as I like the look but as far as getting it to be black, very long process!

I just chopped one in more than half.....could not believe how hard it was to get the rhizomes out of the original pot without breaking that pot.
I have finger's crossed re its survival.

Not sure what to do when my plants just get too big (and I’m new to planting lol) my jade plants got so huge, like a tree. Took it to work to give away & my coworkers were amazed at how big it was they took it. Now my zz plant is getting big but I’m worried about the spots I’m now noticing.

I live in a basement apartment and so light is limited-- I'm also AWFUL at taking care of plants, but my ZZ plant has lived through me actually under-watering it 😭. I'm getting better though!
Looking for recommendations of plants very close to my ability to apparently torture plants, but still live-- because I want more greenery and more practice!
