Interesting to watch you switch from rasp to spoke planer to half-round file and wondering what's prompting the changes. Looks like a very intuitive process!! Super cool. Still wondering how the neck angle is going to get figured--that has got to pretty soon!
I really just use what I have collected and inherited. I don’t know about brands or makers and I honestly don’t know the names of most of the types of files either. I use a float for finishing the mortise on the spike and always some kind of half-rounded file. I favor blades to heavy rasps unless the wood is tearing out too much. A surform usually comes in really handy. And long, skinny round files of various gauges will find ways to be useful. I also have made custom sanding blocks for bespoke purposes so they act sort of like files.
this has been fantastic to watch
