- The name Maritozzi comes from the old tradition of offering these cream buns to one's fiancée: future brides who received them as a gift used to call the giver a "Maritozzo", a popular term of endearment for "husband".
Maritozzi are a typical weekend breakfast in Rome and Lazio region when you really want to indulge. They are made of delicious enriched dough and filled with a generous amount of whipped cream.

Let's make them together:
For 10 buns
500 gr Bread Flour
250 gr Milk (Room Temp)
5 gr Active Dry Yeast
90 gr Sugar
70 gr Veg Oil
1 Egg
1 Egg Yolk
40 gr Raisins
1/2 Tsp Salt
Zest of 1 Lemon
Zest of 1 Orange
make the dough and rest 1 hour (2 folds 30 min) at room temp, then 14-16 hrs in the fridge
For the glaze:
75 gr Sugar
50 gr Water
Filling:
Whipped Cream
355 F 180 C for 15-20 min
